  • I have received a ton of requests to review golf clubs designed for seniors and folks with slower swing speeds. In this video, I give you what you ask for. I review and compare the Cobra T-Rail, the Wilson Launchpad, and the Cleveland Launcher HB. I even slowed my swing speed down to the average senior swing speed of 70 MPH to conduct a full assessment of how the irons perform to seniors have a great idea of how these irons might perform for them. If you are a senior golfer exploring ultra game improvement irons, this is the video for you! If you know someone that might be interested in golf clubs like these, then make sure and show them this video. Welcome to my RUclips Channel Golf Blog! My name is Matt Williams. I'm an amateur golfer that has only been playing golf consistently for a few years now. In 2019, I was about an 18 handicap. I was a 16 handicap to start 2020, and now am down to an 7.0. I started this golf channel for a variety of reasons. 1.) To show viewers what I am doing and working on as I continue my quest to hopefully become a scratch golfer one day. 2.) To review golf clubs/equipment to give people a club review from an amatuer mid-handicap perspective. 3.) To share my ever-growing passion for this beautiful game we call golf. 4.) To just have a ton of fun on the golf course! I sure hope you find all my content useful, helpful, but most of all..... entertaining!

repeatedly saying that these clubs are for seniors stigmatizes them in the eyes of your viewers ... 90% of the players out there would see significantly lower scores and just have more fun if they would use these types of clubs ... but for some reason (pros saying they are for seniors or ladies maybe?) they don't even try them and instead chunk and thin bullet blades all over the course because they look good in the bag. Instead of trying to only limit swing speed, vary the strike ... the most beneficial thing about these clubs is when the strike is half an inch from the center, you still get 95% of ball speed and they stay relatively online. You (just like most people) completely miss out on how this could dramatically help anyone with a double digit handicap, regardless of their age.

I have the Wilson launch pads in the KBS steel shafts, I'm 50 years old and have had 3 knee surgery's . i switched from my Nike frs irons about 2 months ago and cut at least 4 strokes off my game. i can say the Wilsons are loud when you hit it flush. Wilson never gets the love of the other brands. If you want to spend about 200 more for the Cleveland or Cobra feel free to spend that money. I hit all 3 at golf galaxy and found the wilson's actually felt better to me. i play at least 30 to 40 rounds a year.

If you want to simulate the swing of those of us looking at UGI clubs, you should test them by striking the ball a 1/4" left, 1/4" right, 1/4" high, 1/4" low and with the face open & closed by 5 or 10 degrees. If I could hit the ball in the sweet spot & square, I wouldn't need UGI clubs... 😛

I've been looking to replace them, I've tried out the Cobra T-rail 7 iron against my 7 g25, like you I had 10 shots with each club, i gained about 10 yds with the cobra and a tighter ball pattern. After watching your video, i will definitely be buying the cobra Irons. Keep up the good work.

Now after a year and a half my game is all messed up with being fitted for a Driver, Fairway wood, Hybrid, Irons, and Wedge set with 5 different shafts and various length and lie angle changes through out the set. I'm going back to what works best for me. A 13 piece set of all hybrid clubs 12°-61°. May not get the distance at the top end of without a driver and fairways but will have the consitsinty of the same shaft, also with loft, lie and length change through out the complete set. Should of never went away from all hybrid set.

That’s awesome Alex. But many players of your age (and more often, older), generally have slightly less swing speed than you. It’s a damned if I do, damned if I don’t scenario. Because the request I was getting was from players with the swing speed I was trying to produce here. But sometimes when I test things with my normal speed, I get complaints that they don’t know how that translates to those that don’t have my swing speed. So, it’s just trying to appeal to everyone.

I'm 50 and am about 105 mph with the driver ... I play a very similar club to these (Mizuno 921 Hot Metal Fli-Hi) down to 7 iron. very little ball speed drop off with off center hits and my last 3 rounds have been in the 70's ... these things are not just for seniors ... they are for anybody who gets better results with them, regardless of age.

    • @fontyyy
      @fontyyy 2 года назад +3

@@chipandputt totally, if the main reason you don't score better is miss hits (thins, fats, slices, hooks) then surely you just want the club that helps the most?
Yeah, a 4 iron blade in your bag might look cool and make you feel good, but a 4 "iron" hybrid 180 yards long over 50' tall trees back onto the correct fairway after a waywood drive actually is cool and will have you scoring better.

Great review Matt been waiting for this test for so long. The T rail I think looks the best , has a forged face and the rails plus a very good option on hybrid or hybrid irons. As a senior and 22 handicapper these are on my list. Played the Cleveland with great results although lost a little distance due to spin.
My other options are Sim max2 O/S, T400, JPX 921 HM, and Callaway Bb21. I know from Golfdigest and here in the UK the only irons that get a five star rating for forgiveness are the hybrid irons, so my front runner. Price wise too along with the Mizuno. The others are very pricey four digits for seven irons.
    Great review thanks 🙏

Thanks so much for the support and feedback Seve! I don’t know much about your swing or game. But if you’re considering ultra game improvement irons like the one in this video, allow me to narrow the choice of those other irons you mentioned. Of those, I would advise you narrow it to the Callaway Apex DCB and SiM2 Max OS. I definitely would rule out the Mizuno JPX921 HM (not because they are bad irons. They aren’t. They’re really great. But I don’t think they will provide the loft and distance help that a player might need when compared to these others). If you really want a hybrid type iron, then the Cobra T-Rail is the clear choice as I mentioned. You’ll have to check back later and let me know what you ended up getting!

Great video for insight into hybrids Matt,
I do like the idea of hitting good iron shots but I hit more consistently with hybrids and Woods. Also one of the manufacturers did a survey based on 10-18 handicappers and it revealed that those players were 12 per cent better off using hybrids than irons. Basically more 'Fat' shots were hit with irons in that handicap range. You've sold me on the Cobras Matt let's see what I buy when I have my fitting. Only thing not mentioned was regarding shafts , Graphte shafts available but what about Steel? Am I right in thinking those Hybrids only come with Graphite shafts? I am a senior player ( handicap 12) and I played a borrowed set of the Cleveland HB Launchers ( 5-GW) and scored an 80 round; impressive and so easy to hit well. I like the fact that they fly lower than the T-rails and spin plenty to stop quickly. I am not concerned about which club is longest, just which club caries a consistent distance. They give a tight draw shape, but you can fade them it you try to.

I bought the 2020 Wilson LP. I’m 34, 100mph swing. I bought them for forgiveness because I’m only 3 years into playing. I legit broke 90 with these 2 rounds in a row for the first time ever! Beyond that, the PW chipping is amazing! Highly recommend these and not just for seniors! That’s peoples small members getting in the way.

Got to the end of the video, despite all the clicks and distortion on the sound track.

I found a paragon r6000 #8 iron in a charity shop and paid 1 pound. I have since then established a set made up of this club and Tour Edge Bazooka and I am having great fun.

Somehow the golf professionals and club makers always seem to mix two things. Slow swing and poor swing or poor ball contact. As you get older, your swing definitely slows down. But does this automatically make your ball contact worse? So why always forgiving irons? Shouldn't there be something like blades that were just built for slower swing?

When he says senior speed he must be speaking of around 78 or older.

Mr. Matt...where did you go? Are you still making videos or are you more concentrated on golf and your swing at the moment?

Wow. Just wow. The distaste for the whole thing is palpable. And wouldn't it have made sense to have a senior friend and so-so golfer hit the balls rather than a golf instructor? I have no idea if the observations are legitimate or just the result of cranking down your superior swing. I doubt your cranked down swing is the same as a senior's normal swing. Disappointed.

People should stop calling these senior clubs. Most golfers would improve by playing these clubs.

Next time just get a senior with a mid handicap to test senior irons.

you make it sound like saying the word "seniors" is a cuss word. For pete's sake, golf is a game & clubs are TOOLS for that game whatever age or sex!

It's a complete waste of time comparing any clubs while using range balls.

These comments make me smile. So glad he got roasted with his incredibly ignorant assumptions regarding these clubs. My driver SS at 55 is 105 mph and I’m moving into some of these because my iron game is my weakness, whereas I hit my hybrids quite well. I play 20, 23 and 26 degree Mizuno Fli-hi hybrids and am going to bag the Launchpads in 30, 34, and 39 degrees. Can’t wait to be able to minimize the damage done by poor iron swings. 😊🏌️‍♂️⛳️
