    Great video again AG!
I guess my question and view on this two fold....
    1. I thought golf was suppose to be about fun and having the best round of memories and scoring. So playing clubs that let you score great and have fun playing is the club a person should use.
    2. Since when has golf become about looks over performance and scoring? It seems peoples egos get in the way and want a club that looks "pro" and looks "amazing" but that same player cant hit it worth anything and score horribly. Which makes it not fun for them and makes them to not want to golf. Instead of setting the ego aside to play fun, awesome golf and score great and want to keep playing...
I play mizuno Jpx919 forged irons because it is like a blade with the performance of a non blade. But I hit them amazing and have fun with them. And I score amazing with them!
So my question is....looks or score? Fun or frustration? Shouldnt it be a easy question for people to answer?

I currently play the 2021 T-Rails. They fit my swing and help me get around the course. No shame here. They feel great on contact and I like the weight of the club head. I never fell into the trap of having to play what others play. I tried many sets and while getting fitted I was given the “let’s try these…” and the numbers for the T-Rails out performed any of the other irons I tried, be it’s cavity backs or muscle backs. Why make the game harder trying to swing TW blades if another set gives you better scores? Golf is hard enough as it is. I personally love my T-Rails and have no regrets putting them into my bag

To be fair I'm not experienced when it comes to trying different clubs but I can't help but think it doesn't really make much difference if it's a blade or a super GI club. They're both a lofted but flat faced bit of metal on the end of a stick. The ball goes where the club face and the swing path determines it will go.
Maybe in the new year I will get to try some different irons and find out for myself.

As much as I'd like to say I'm all about performance I think how something looks is also important. I also think a more bladed iron could actually help you to improve your game in terms of ball striking because of the feedback and you know you wont get away with it as much. I've certainly been practicing far more since I bought these then I have done in recent years.

As a high handicapper, I don’t get hung up on sound of the club or what loft it is but I do like to know the distance I hit each club. This is more important to me and if a mate hits a wedge and I hit a nine iron - who cares? I recently bought new TM M6 irons and it has taken 6 months but now I hit them more consistently. A big factor for me when buying was the look of the club and knowing I’ve got a reputable brand. Love your video content- keep them coming.

  • @wallstreetoneil
    @wallstreetoneil 4 года назад

This video perfectly highlights the benefit of building a custom bag that will swap out longer irons for a more forgiving type once you can no longer hit your longest iron consistently enough to get optimal distance gaps, peak heights & descent angles. Adjusted for loft, the cobra is producing blade type numbers and consistency, and while ridiculous from an old-school perspective, basically gaps perfectly with the TW bladed irons. If most of the guys on tour are now doing this at the top end of their bag, then every Average Golfer should as well.

They are called irons, but for all intents and purposes it's a full set of hybrids. I've only had them a couple of days and haven't had a chance to use them yet, but I've lost track of how many times I've picked one up and sat it behind a ball in the living room and sighed ecstatically at the prospect of using them come Sunday. They just inspire confidence. I actually think they look quite pretty, but for looks alone a blade is always going to win hands down.
I can relate to people being swayed by looks over what may be better for their game to a certain extent. I'm in my 60's now, but when I was younger I used to do a lot of cycling. Andy I kind of agree with you on this on some points ,a 4 iron is not too hard to hit if you practice and have a decent swing speed ,if you play just a few times a year and want to just have a bit of walk and laugh round the course then fill your bag with hybrid type clubs .but it's not for everyone . No amount of loft or forgiveness will make you hit the ball straighter ,that is a fact ,but it will help you get the ball in the air .Golf like snooker is a hard game ,play on an easy club table with big pockets will give you confidence ,but you wouldn't want to be doing that all the time when you got to a better standard ,yes you might make more shots to begin with but big pockets won't help with position .I swapped out my Nike blades a couple of ago and went to AP3 with lots of offset ,big mistake ,since have gone back to a more compact iron muscle back design and my game is better with on average lower scores .Everything is relevant to what each person wants out of the game and in this day and age there is more gear that you can shake a stick at .The game of golf will never be easy though .

As a golfer I admire the looks of the TM club and would love to own a set, but the reality of my age/ability is that I now require all the help I can get with performance/forgiveness and unfortunately this outweighs aesthetics! With the increasing average age of golfers, Cleveland recognised this need sometime ago and now Cobra (T-Rail) and Wilson (Launchpad) have as well.

This comment is a few years late. I love the look of hybrids and hybrid irons. Just bought the 2023 Cobra T Rails. Can't wait for winter to end in 5 or so months. I started my golfing days with Stan Thompson Golf clubs. The first set came with 1-10 laminated maple woods and RC-20X irons so at least half my bag consisted of small hybrid sized fairway woods. From there I bought into the Orlimar IRS hybrids skeam of clubs. Switched to Thomas Golf at725 hybrid set, then to Cobra S2 Max hybrid iron set with the rails. Then to the Cleveland HB's set Messing around the Bang O Matic complete hybrid set and Tour Edge ironwoods. Never liked the what is called a true iron with Thanks for Stan Thompson Golf.

Bought a set of used Cleveland 588cb irons in great condition for 150 squid....dynamic gold s300 shafts. The s300 shafts are on the heavy side, so I've bought a used set of Nippon modus 3 120 stiff shafts for 120 squid as they are a bit lighter.....guy I know is gonna switch em over for 50 squid.....I rarely buy new.

Would love to play blades but am happy with my mizuno jpx forged. I do hit a 3 and 4 hybrid though and would consider a 5 hybrid but certainly nothing 6 and below. The hybrids are much easier to hit than the comparative long irons but can't see benefits much below a 5 iron. If I wanted extra yardage I might go to more game improvement irons but don't like the look of most of them. Too much offset generally and I don't like seeing the back of an iron sticking out behind the top line it just doesn't look right.

Great video , my parameters are price and are they forgiving with some distance. Looks are important because if you don't like what you are looking at then you probably won't like playing with it. But be open minded, the reason price I sow my main factor is clubs are getting more expensive and they depreciate more than a car.

The T rail has stronger loft, so instead of comparing 7 to 7 iron tiger woods, can you match up the lofts and grip up or down on one to do a head to head comparison? I'd also like to hear more about the T rail pitching and sand wedge and why the bulky clubs are harder to shape shots with. If I could hit any club good, I'd go for looks, but I can't, so I'm considering the T rails

    At 0.56 . . . . the TW irons . . .
Finished now - I bought MP20 MB (play off 8) . . . there is no better feeling in golf to catch a 5i sweetly, see it drawing from left to right on a delightful arc, carrying the appropriate length because your swing plane, tempo and face at impact were correct . . . however, if the latter 3 point are not all present, it doesn’t do the former 😉
    Best wishes Andy

I suspect it really depends on whether you are a "compressor" of the ball, or a "sweeper". A compressor of the ball will get a better result from the blades, than a sweeper,

I for one, am very confused about the distance hunt. I want proper gapping from 80 to 180 yards.
I’m contemplating taking my 3I out of the bag so that I can put a 3W in. But my 56, 53, and 49 degree wedges are all staying in. The fact that the gap from my 8I (140) to my 49 is 40 yards rather than 30 yards bugs me a lot more than the fact that my 8I “only” goes 140. I might tweak lofts so I can add an extra wedge under my PW.
How often do you approach the green from more than 180?

  • @SteadyRolling
    @SteadyRolling 4 года назад

Loft is only half the equation. The other half is shaft length.
If you have a player's 7 iron at 34 degrees and a "distance" 7 iron at 27 degrees, for example, there might not be much difference in distance if the shafts are the same and the same length. However, if you add an inch to the distance iron, so that it's basically then a 5 iron, you should get a good amount more distance.

A little off topic Andy, but did you see the comparison between the T-rail and the HB Turbo irons done by 2ndSwing? I like the idea and look of the Cobra’s, but the Cleveland’s just outperformed them. That being said, I’d love to get the TM Tiger irons in my spec from 6-pw, but don’t think they do that. Love my middle hybrids and fairway woods, But really enjoy the satisfaction from hitting a blade dead solid perfect once in awhile. PLUS THEY LOOK FANTASTIC.

I play the Hogan PTx which are great clubs and show loft rather than club number. I bought Hogan for a historic reason. Love them. I have them because very few at home play them.
It is four degrees between each single club.
Today I only care of how far the actual club go. I want a 100 meter club, 120 m club and a 150m club. And I start from that point.
Today, equipment is so good compared to the 80s or 90s. My driver delievers and ouzes confidence. My FW4 delievers. My Ping 9FW is amazing and compete with my old Hybrid 3. Depends on wind. Distance is basically the same but landing degree is difference.
Basically use 8-iron, PW, GW, AW and SW once I am off tee.
I bought for fun the TigerWoods iron and these are still in the box. Had a 30% off retail price. Will most likely use them and IF I would sell them I am sure I would regret it...

I try to decide what clubs to play based on a few things. Firstly I'll see a couple of clubs that I like the look of. Then I'll go and test a few of the ones I like. Then pick my gamers dependent on best performance from my group of preferred clubs. If they're all pretty similar, I'll go with the one I like the look of best.
Golf is my passion, so I want something in my hand that I like to use. So I'll always aspire towards better player irons.

The numbers are very interesting. With a 5.5 degree loft difference that is just about 1.3 clubs (not that you can have 0.3 of a club but bare with me). Distance wise I would expect a 13-15 yard gap between the 2 clubs and spin rates I would expect about a 1000 rpm difference (most players get a 600-800 rpm difference between clubs) - if the clubs were the same type of club which they are not. What we actually see is that distance gap is pretty much spot on but that the spin rate difference is a bit wider than expected at 1500 rpm. Then when we move to peak height and descent angle - peak height is identical and descent angle for T-rail slightly shallower.
So what can we make of the numbers. To my mind both irons are very impressive and the T-rails are so much better than the distance irons (eg M2s and similar) of 4-5 years ago. I suspect that the spin rate gap is more down to the Tiger irons being relatively high spinning rather than the T-rails being low spin - 5440 rpm for a 30 degree club is decent

I was hitting a friend's old TP9, that Nick Faldo would have been emotional to use, at the driving range for several years. When you hit it sweet it was nice, but slightly off and it cut the hands it was so sharp. It was hit and miss and never felt confident enough to go out any play 18 holes.
Someone gave me an offset Wilson Reflex 5 Hybrid to hit. I was tonking it miles. And it was absolutely fun. I didn't think I could miss. Suddenly I feel like I can play this game. Now I am thinking I should get some second hand T Rails, or HBs.
Don't care what they look like. Go out there and have fun smacking the ball over 200 yards....

Try a "better player" iron at least for the shorter irons. I moved this year to the Ping i210s and am very happy although the nicest iron I tried was Mizuno 919 Tours - although 5i & 6i were so small they were scary. 919 Forged is a great club and a bit bigger, very confidence inspiring but The Average Golfer's recommendations are also very good of those P790s and Mizuno HMB are stunning

The usual unbiased review Andy. Personally it's a bit like buying a car . It's what suits your needs, meets your budget, reliability, availability and so on. The badge and looks are secondary for me . The TW irons are a Ferrari lovely to look at ,super performance but too much to handle for me. So a bit like the car become something to enjoy looking at and performing in somebody else's hands.
    Hope that this makes sense.
    Happy new year.

If i look at at the TW7 irons whilst they look nice i'm not drawn to them in the slightest as i am no where near good enough to play them my strike is way to inconsistent. If i look at the Cobra i don't like the look of them and whilst they may be beneficial it is not enough to make me consider them as i feel a more traditional game improvement iron would offer similar performance with a much improved look

The TW irons are beautiful, I have demoed them recently but my fear is misses will really suffer, especially out on the course with different lies.
