I am a 3 handicap and I bought them. I joined a club that has a ton of elevated greens and needed something to get the ball launching higher and my P790's weren't doing it for me now that I am in my mid 50s. I can't believe I am saying this about hybrid irons, but I absolutely love them. Mishits have muscle to them, so they don't land 30 yards short of the green. The rails really do help get the ball airborne. As a former scratch golfer, I really never thought I would ever hit clubs like this, but why make the game harder than it already is. Not to mention that the black heads are really good looking. I am a convert.

So true. I play off a +5. Had college scholarship back in the day. I switched the single length irons like 4 years ago even though Iron play was my biggest strength. But I loved the idea of making the game easier. Only need 1 swing for all my irons, wouldn’t need to practice much, etc. I went from 0.5 handicap to +5 in 3 years and never practice. I get crap in tournaments for having a 7 Wood and a 4 hybrid and cavity back single length irons, but boy do they make the game fun.

Andy, half of my seniors' league could use these. One guy does and he was using the 7 iron as a chipper very effectively. I believe Cobra could bring out a one length version of these if the market accepts the regular set in any volume. Wave of the future for us 70+ guys. Excellent and honest review.

Great video! Love your perspective. It really surprises me how some denigrate those that are willing to try some non-traditional equipment to improve - yet they will see nothing contradictory when they buy new irons every two years because they now have “speed foam” or change drivers every year to gain 6 yards.

  • @William45ish

Great video bud. One of the guys who Plays in our four ball quite regularly, was having a horrendous time with his irons. He had lessons, bought the most expensive improvement irons, but still his iron play was awful. He was getting worse instead of better. In desperation, he decided to try out the Cleveland HB irons as a last resort. Wow!!! The difference in his game was not only dramatic, but awesome! When we inspected them and had a few swings, we couldn’t believe how something quite horrendous to look at, could hit a golf ball so high, straight and stop quite quickly on the greens. Since buying these “hybrids” nearly a year ago, his handicap has gone down from 24 to 9! We still rib him about his clubs, but he has the last laugh when he takes the money in our game most weekends!

Steffan I said no such thing! the point that I was making was that it doesn’t matter if you go to a pro or get fitted for irons, if you’re not compatible with your irons, you’re not gonna play good golf. What works for one golfer, doesn’t work for others It’s that simple!! On the blame issue. If more Pro’s and Club fitters could get over their draconian attitude as to how a golf should look, then I’m sure that my friend wouldn’t of had to go through such a lengthy torrid time playing golf.

Great review, I purchased the Wilson’s and as a high handicap, senior golfer, what an improvement this set made in my game. My ego is very much in tact because I am getting out of the bad situations much easier and hitting much better. I chose the Wilson’s because of the silver edge that allowed my eyes to see this club as an iron. After one season I have lowered my handicap and increased accuracy and distance .

If you're talking about the Lauch Pads, I bought a set of irons to replace the 1996 Pro Staff OS clubs I bought in 96. I absolutely love the LPs! I play the tour edge hl2 iron wood, they are now out with the hl4. If you think trying to go from a iron to an "iron wood" is tough, try going from an "iron wood" to a cavity iron after playing a couple years. Its kinda like looking at a blade. More golfers should consider blending this style of iron-hybrid into the longer iron section of their bags ( 3-6 irons) . You only have to hit them a few times to realize their potential, especially if you are a slicer of the ball. Some golfers complain of hooking all hybrids. They might need to address the lie angle ( go flatter/ Ping style hosel ) . Can these clubs be adjusted to reduce the lie angle?

Andy, if I told you I've found you a perfect players club, that in a 6 iron bladed loft (30 degrees), delivers with 13 hits:
    - every shot with a peak height of 89-110 feet
    - every shot with a descent angle between 44 and 50 degrees averaging 48 degrees
    - every shot with a distance between 165-173 yards
    - an average spin of 5300rpms
    - and an average of 4 inches off line
And then said to you, what would you pay for such a club?
My guess is you would think those numbers are miraculous and would be willing to pay a lot of $$$ for such a set
I've been a subscriber for a few years, and I can easily say, I've never seen a better set of numbers
Take this set of irons and play a round against your current set and see how you do. Use your driver off the tee and then hit two balls from every spot afterwards - your current set and this set and see what happens (alternating between which set hits first). My bet is on this set beating your current irons or at least being even with them.

My club head speed was about 5mph slower than yours, and I preferred the light graphite shaft. I tried the 7 for chip and run shots, and again it was good for those too, although the ball came off the face a bit faster than it would with a normal iron. This is going to change the game !! Cleveland is a close second. Watch what i tell you , there will be alot of other brands that will follow suit. Remember there are way way more average golfers than professional. Great club!!

I like the look on my face and on my scorecard. That would weigh more than the look of the club. If it works... numbers are hard to argue. Thank you for the video.

    Hello
Thank you for the review. I have a few questions regarding the cobra t-rail iron. First have you done a review with the Cobra F-Max airspeed iron? I am looking between the Cobra T-Rail or the Cobra F-Max Airspeed irons. My handicap is like 17+ as I am a fairly new golfer. A lot of my hits I tend to slice right. So do you think the t-rail iron will help my game. I have a slower to moderate swing speed. From 150 yards I use a 6 iron sometimes 7 iron. What are your thoughts?

If you want to learn how to draw the ball and improve rapidly have a look at Jim Venetos' swing videos on RUclips. it looks weird, but it works. To make golf simple using one length irons and hybrids helps a lot. Have a look at the new Wishon EQ-1 NX clubs. They combine hollow body and single length concepts, which in my mind is a win / win situation.
Having said that, I am a Cobra fan in their fairway woods ( F9 17 degree and 19 single length Hybrid) and F7 (17.5 and 25 Hybrids). I used to use F9 Single length irons, but found at my swing speed ( 85 mph with Driver) the low lofted 5,6 gave me little gap between the 7 iron. I changed brand to Milford Golf SL-7 and am happy now 6i-LW ( graphite shafts) .
I have not tried the T-Rails, but I just bough a 5-PW set of Cleveland HB Launchers with seniors graphite shafts for my wife. If the T-rails are as good as those clubs, you would not be disappointed.

I've got similar..... Got the shanks big time and even off 5 I just couldn't get rid. So I was just chipping my lofted hybrid around..... So I got the rest to pw. Shanks have gone and boy I've had fun, you can hit the ball anywhere on the club and it goes.... Been called all sorts by my golfing partners, then I remind him that I nearly hit him a few times when shanking.... They're great clubs

When I'm old I'll definitely play something like this. I already carry a 25° hybrid and a hollow 3 iron for the low ball. I still like my one piece forged player's cavities in the short clubs though.

The fact you struggle to flight them in any way other than high would surely make them a poor choice for most golfers? But I do love the way you look at stuff that many of us might not consider. Can you review any Orka stuff, seen some really interesting reviews on their stuff, especially the quality of the big boys.

    • @TheAverageGolfer
      @TheAverageGolfer  4 года назад

I would say most golfers are looking to only flight the ball high Adrian, if you look to do otherwise and I think that would be the minority then these would not be for you. I dont have any Orka clubs sorry

Tour Edge, an American company, has a similar set like this. I have the HL3 IRON-WOOD model, 4-pw....they are easy to hit, like a bag full of hybrids....I've played forged Hogans thru the years, the feel is pretty close....they are just easier to hit. Well made, and $2-300 dollars a set cheaper than the other brands. I know looks matter, but remember what Seve said when they questioned his accuracy...."It's not how, but how many".

I can see where this set of irons would be a hit with seniors. I play several hybrids with 6i being my longest iron. I'm not ready for a full set of hybrids but who knows. Perhaps in another 10 years or so. I'm 65 now.

Update: I bit the bullet and bought the 8&9 in the T-rails. And I must say they are easy to hit. I figure at this point(almost 66) don't fight it. Do whatever it takes to enjoy the game more. So my setup is.....Driver, 3&5 woods, 4-7 Rogue x hybrids, 8 & 9 t-rail and 3 Callaway wedges. I'm a legit 9 HC but not embarrassed to play an old man set. Because I am an old man. Ha.

I’m sure these types of clubs would be more successful if they addressed the ego / looks element.
Just a opinion that if the shorter irons looked like chunky irons which progress into hybrid looking mid irons I think people could get over the looks and accept / embrace the help...
Merry Christmas mate, keep up the good work...

  • @geordietoonforlife.1155
    @geordietoonforlife.1155 4 года назад

I think they can help a lot of golfers who struggle with there irons, also new starters too the game as it will bring enjoyment hitting the ball in the air and it might help promote the game making it easier too play golf rather than struggle with the traditional irons.
As for me being old school and played the game for almost 50 years they wouldn’t look right and I definitely wouldn’t like too play with them in the wind or try too shape a shot. Having said that we are all different and there is no right and no wrong in what you as a individual choose too play with.
