Andy, I'm a 5 handicap, but I've spent a lot of time this last year building a modern set that takes advantage of technology and launch monitors to maximize each club in my bag. I think it's awesome that Cleveland has tried to put together 1 set that morphs as much as it does from PW to 4 iron trying to help the Average Golfer as much as possible as the clubs transition from short to mid to long. I can also comfortably say, that unless you have a huge hook and offset would send you to a mental hospital, your average slicing golfer would really benefit from this offset design. I could easily play these - but more importantly, I would put my wife into them (if I didn't recently build her a 1-off custom set doing exactly these ideas) as well as my put my 2 daughters and parents into them. This should be a candidate for Average Golfer Set of the Year because it is actually trying to optimize every club for the Average Golfer..

I agree Paul these clubs do everything at a good price I started golf 3 years ago with cleveland launchers aged 55 29 handicap got down to 21 changed to cbx as game improved down to 12 both sets very forgiving high launch irons and very much passed by for mid to high handicappers who go for major brands more expensive clubs
This brand would help them more at a cheaper price and off set is a slicers friend

I play the Cleveland Launchers HBs and could not be happier with how they have helped me improve my game through forgiveness and consistency. Very quickly got over the non-conventional looks once the performance gains kicked in. Pity these types of clubs are too quickly dismissed, but as you say, perhaps now with the price of so-called premium irons, we’ll see a resurgence of interest.

  • @robbiles

Andy, agree totally. Cleveland are very under rated outside of their wedges and that price should be a dig draw card for them. Have noted recently that there are a lot of Cleveland ads on RUclips so may be doing more to raise their profile.

These Cleveland irons are great for a lowish budget.I think the variance on the 7 iron tell you that you have to hit the sweet spot to get the strike right which like a blade helps you to learn from your mistakes. The more expensive clubs tend to be more forgiving but mask your mistakes but are good for the ego.

I still play Cleveland TA5 gunmetal irons, so have a real soft spot for Cleveland, and hope they do well. I also think the short irons in this set look as good as most clubs out there. The mid to long irons, where they move to the hollow construction, however, just look so different to the rest of the set, I think I'd really struggle to want to hit them (or indeed carry them in the bag). I recognise that they may have performance advantages, giving help with launch etc. but I'd feel more inclined to try and fill in with a couple of hybrids which may do the job even better and be more pleasing on the eye.

I had a set of Cleveland CBX irons that I really enjoyed. I purchased a 4 UHX iron for $99.00, and as I like irons more than woods it replaced my 4 hybrid. It’s been absolute money so far. It’s a bit chunky but it really does feel much better than other hollow body irons I’ve tried and it’s still smaller than the hybrid I was gaming, which I like. Thanks to you I hit it and I bought it!!!

If you take out the two 7 iron miss hits, your average with the other 5 was approx 172 yards. So the bad ones at 160 & 162 are only 10-12 yard short. Still on the green if playing to a middle pin. Miss hits on blades would probably be worse, no?

Many thanks for this review. I have a set of Cleveland clubs from approx 5 years ago, so these look like the sort of thing I would look at. I like the idea of clubs changing through the set as we amateurs need more help at the 4 / 5/ 6 ends of the bag. It would also allow me to keep my wedges at the bottom.

I looooove my HB Turbo (ladies) so forgiving and consistent, nothing but Cleveland in the bag... HB Launcher Turbo Driver (12deg), Halo 2 Hybrid, HB Launcher Turbo 5 Wood, a CBX 50 wedge, my putter and these babies... HB Launcher Turbo Irons! (Irons in 6 to 9, PW, SW). The looks aren’t even noticeable on the course for me, they look like a typical iron and the black just looks like a shadow in the grass, to be honest it’s about how well they perform... such an underrated brand Cleveland is, but I love the reasonable pricing of them (not spending extras on adjustable hosel and weight bolts you just don’t need therefore making them more affordable...). I wouldn’t use anything else!! Quality and consistency, it’s a no brainer!! Brush your egos aside and get your hands on these babies!!

Cleveland makes good products. I have an old Reg 588 s/w that I have used for almost 20 years and just replaced it with a new one that cost $45 though one of the big online stores here in the USA. I love it and have tried many different brands but always come back to the 588. I also used a SL290 Launcher driver that was very good. Used it for about 5 years. If I hadn't just bought a set of Callaway irons I would take a good look at these in the review.

  • @AlexTheLi0n
    @AlexTheLi0n 5 лет назад

Great video as usual, this is why I aways say it's not necessary to spend 1000 of pounds or dollars on golf clubs. Forged irons can be adjusted. I just got delivered today a set of Callaway APEX CF 19 irons 5 through AW for $569.00 + $20 shipping with Catalyst 60 5.5 Regular Flex shafts. Retail these would cost $1360 with Tax. So what's my point. It's mostly the swing and pratice that's going to make you a better golfer. I go get fitted then I buy them second hand online for a fraction of the cost. Most golfers would be better off paying for a decent pro vs buying the most expensive clubs. Spending tons of money on clubs won't make you hit it straight or teach you to work the ball.

Hi Mel I am reading your unanswered question a year later. I fit your description as a golfer ( 66; handicap 13) and recently bought a set of the original HB Launcher irons ( not the turbo model) with Senior flex graphite shafts. On testing them I found them very forgiving of fat shots. They were easy to hit well and flew slightly higher than my other irons. They tended to be draw biased, which is fine if you tend to fade/slice a lot. I think their carrying distance was about right for the lofts on each club. My only concern would be how they might react on hard baked courses in mid summer, where a thinner sole would be an advantage.

They don't mark up anymore than any other set of irons. I agree the stock grips tend to be cheap but cleveland has been near the top in the wedge category for a long time and haven't had any issues with them. Most wear on iron faces comes from the range. Its sand getting on the golf ball at the range and hitting it between the face and the ball. If you just keep your clubs clean and make sure your range balls are clean your irons will last a very long time.

The results though were very impressive - good spin for a 30 degree 7i, even better with the 4i. Add in the price and that is a very good set for someone starting golf. As for the drop off on miss hits with 7i, I do not mind that too much. You should suffer if you swing badly - but flying 160 yards with decent spin is not a massive amount of suffering for a 7i - maybe 12 yards compared to a decent swing.

Funny, just wanted to make a quick comment because I purchased a set of these yesterday, that feel of the four iron off the tee or in the fairway is excellent. These irons are really good, the only drawback is hitting that four from the rough, but even with my old Mizuno JPX 800 irons that was an issue also. But still out of the deep rough I advanced it 160 yards, from the tee 190 without much effort.

Your front and back dispersion with the 4 iron was tighter than the 7 iron. You and I now that's not the norm. It indicates to me that you had a couple of bad strikes with the 7 iron that threw off the performance. Even on the smallest greens that front back dispersion would have the ball landing on the green in any case.
