This is very interesting. Like others have said, I grew up in the persimmon head era and it was very common to use lead tape. However, given that I currently enjoying a 2 way miss I will need to put weight around the entire club and leave it in the trunk to avoid damaging my score with the driver.
Used to do the “simpler” version of this years ago with persimmon drivers and lead tape on the heel or toe for draw or fade bias and on the sole to raise swingweight a bit!
Absolutely. Still do on modern woods as well. If you look at my driver and 3W you might think I was doing a stop gap repair to hold them together, but no, it is lead tape.
@@andrewdrakeford5815 Ralph Maltby wrote several books on club making. Good reading material. I took his course on club making a lifetime ago. He knew what he was doing. Even before that, my Dad, a scratch golfer, taught me about lead tape, how it affects manipulation of the ball, and clubhead. As for shafts, the short answer is figure out your swing speed to help determine shaft flex. It is not a hard and fast rule, but it is mostly correct. I am 65. I cannot swing like I did when I was young. That is life. I do use a senior flex now in all but wedges which I like an R flex. Bottom line, the faster swings need firmer shafts, generally. Ego should have ZERO impact on using the right shaft, club heads, or grips. I have put an R flex shaft in many driver heads for folks that did not warrant a stiff flex. They are surprised when their dispersion and accuracy improves. Grip sizes are also very individual, sometimes regardless of hand size. I have small hands but my best results with grips is a midsize grip, not regular standard as many will say is correct. That aspect of the club is like shoes. Only you know if the shoe fits correctly, or the grip in this case. Again, it can be trial and error. A decent club fitter is NOT a waste of time. It speeds up and eliminates a lot of time and money by you not getting equipped with the wrong clubs. Because I built custom clubs and fitted people for decades, I still fiddle around with my own equipment, however, the clubs can only do so much. Lessons can help more and advance your game much more quickly. (I only recommend PGA instructors, so take that for what it is worth, in my opinion, they can help.)
Wow, this could be the Biggest game improver for all us amateur golfers who struggle with driver. Well done James for highlighting this as I had no idea that this could be done. 👏
Guys at Eleven are very cool. You should have brought up the unique adjustable hossle plus the Crank drivers connection. Fine piece of kit. My mate just bought one, very nice driver.
Have a set of the Eleven Golf Hybrids and love them. Would welcome the driver! Too bad you didn't win the long drive, but you did hit a really long drive into the path James! Enjoying your videos, keep up the good reviews.
I played the Nike sumo driver a couple of years and people hated the sound of that driver but it had such a good ball flight. Many hated that driver i loved it. Never played eleven clubs but always hear good things.
When I was a newbie golfer, the first set of new clubs I purchased were the Nike SQ Sumo irons ( the long irons were square like the driver) as well as the Nike Sasquatch Driver - then 2 weeks later, someone stole the entire set out of my truck.... Loved the clubs, hated the sound!
@@semperfi5857 that wasn’t the most forgiving set of clubs to begin with. Much respect. Sucks they were stolen. Those irons probably worth some money now. I always played cobra irons my whole career.
Great video James ,am glad you explained hot, melt ,I was on the elevens Webb page ,they were saying things like adding hot, melt to the driver’s head, now I know what’s it’s all about,72yr old ,my golf balls go all over the place ,that’s why I was on the Elevens Webb page looking for a new driver ,at my age you need all the help I can get ,Thanks again James for a great video 😊
11. I’ve never seen hot melt before. Looks like a great way to help golfers. I think the guys at 11 are doing a great job. I bought the 3 and 4 hybrids, and they are the best clubs in my bag.
Eleven is amazing! I got the nine iron hybrid, and have been playing it for a week or two. Superb. So now I ordered the 3 iron hybrid, up to and including the PW hybrid. Because I already have the nine, they were happy to replace that one with the Sandblaster. Cannot wait for them to come in! ELEVEN rocks, their service is wonderful as well!
11. Would love to try their clubs, been struggling to find a driver that completes the bag, this could be the answer! I think Nick will win. Love the channel James keep up the good work, loads of respect for you and all you’re doing at such a hard time for you personally.
Very educational from what Eleven is offering to the hot melt process & impact. Even more importantly for me at least is the discussion on the softer flex shafts for higher swing speed players; many Long Drive competitors are doing the same thing thing. Would be an interesting test for you and Chris to try. Thanks for the great content.
Eleven. Been so impressed with the reviews of eleven golf keep looking for second hand ones on ebay but they rarely appear must mean people aint getting rid of them so must be good
I am impressed with Eleven Golf. I am close to ordering their set of hybrid irons. My golfing group buddy bought a set. I got to hit them a bit while warming up and man oh man, easy to hit. I was unaware of the customization aspect to weighting in the driver heads. Forever, I have always used lead tape and dialed in my driver to help me out. (toward the housel, on the bottom for me). It looks ugly, but it does work.
Thanks for bringing this info to the masses. I've been toying with getting new sticks and have wanted to try a super specific weighted driver to help negate my normal "Power Fade" and hot melt seems like a cool concept. I've been aware of hot melt for a year or so but not in the $ position to drop a big chunk of money just yet. I've been using lead tape on the sole/toe of my Titleist 909 driver for a few years and it helps a bunch. It's unsightly and I took a lot of ribbing from my golf buddies. (maybe more cracking because I'm still playing a dinosaur) They no longer bust my balls after seeing that tape for so long but when I do show up with a new long stick, I'd better be proper. The ELEVEN driver you used for the demo looks sweet. Not too busy at all and I like that. I don't know much about the ELEVEN brand except for a YT video, I think James did, with a full hybrid irons set. I don't recall seeing this driver before now.

ELEVEN. I struggle massively with my slice. I didn’t even know this was a thing. I’m definitely going to check them out the next time I’m looking for a new driver 👍 James is winning.
Eleven - These guys in the tour trucks are what the pit crew are to F1. They make the magic possible and they are so humble and professional. Great video, James.
Straight right or slice city? Try putting the ball even more forward in your stance. Keep advancing it until you hit left, then back it up a bit. This is the simplest method to fix your problem without fixing the root cause. Seriously, go to the range and do this and you will be amazed! Also, make sure you feel like you’re throwing your right hip pocket toward the target on your downswing.
Just wondering James ..if you are hitting Left or right..could it also be set ..or coming over the top a little .. wouldn’t you fix your swing before hot wax?
Nick also does the Sub70 fitting in Hereford, he fitted my irons about 3 years ago, I think the team that run the UK Sub70 franchise or are the registered UK supplier or whatever also run Eleven. When I was there at Sub70 HQ I also saw a bunch of Eleven branded stuff/stock sitting around. Nick did a good job fitting my Sub70 Irons and it certainly didn't feel rushed or pressured and he knows his onions. PS - I don't want the Eleven driver thanks, so if by some miracle you draw me out, give it to someone else, an anti slice driver would not suit my game :)
ELEVEN .... A great family business Nicks dad Richard and his Grandad David have always been the most helpful people for years.. bought my first ever set of fitted I rons from David toooo many years ago. 👍Nick for definite wins..😮

I will definitely check out Eleven drivers. My current driver is just extra weight in my bag. Would be nice to get the confidence to use a driver sometimes.
I had a fade for years. All I did to straighten my shot is put the ball a few inches back towards center in my stance. Changed my game so much. A year later I'd say I find 90% of the fairways. With the fade I was at like 50%
My friend was hitting his drives to the right and he is left handed so I told him to switch the two weights and now he is hitting bombs and I am 40 yards back. I just guessed right and it worked out perfectly for him. Thanks, I would love to try out your driver. Nate wins !!
Eleven. I had the opportunity to visit these guys and get fitted for my PW - 6 irons earlier on in the year. If I win, I will pop down and buy the 5 iron as well. 😉
