  • Cleveland and Cobra are both out with new game-improvement irons this fall and both feature unique, hybrid-like shaping and tremendous #performance attributes for mid- and high-handicap golfers. Cleveland’s release is the #HBTurbo, which constitutes the next chapter in what has been a successful iron franchise for the company, while Cobra’s new #T-Rail irons represent its first offering of a full iron set like this. To see how the HB Turbo and T-Rail irons compared, 2nd Swing master fitter Thomas Campbell and 2nd Swing staff member Steve Ettel put each to the test using Trackman 4 and then dove into the numbers and discussed sound, look, and feel.
    You can find more information about the Cleveland HB Turbo and Cobra T-Rail irons, as well as other new iron models, at www.2ndswing.com/t-latest-mod....

    Nice comparison between both sets of clubs. But I feel that the T-Rails didn't get to show their full potential by not being used on the turf which is where they may have an advantage over the Cleveland clubs on fat shots and miss hits.

Unfortunately, it might be a little while before we can do that up here in Minnesota, where golf season comes to a screeching halt at the end of October, but we will add that to our list of videos that we want to get shot. Steve's swing is more consistent than he gives himself credit for. I suspect the rather different shafts may have had an influence on the outcomes and one interesting 'tell' was the spin rate. The Cobra span significantly more than the Cleveland, flying higher, descending more steeply and rolling-out a lot less. Although longer is (sometimes) good, holding the green with the Clevelands would be a lot harder. I was considering trailing a T-rail hybrid (really like the rail concept) but the sound of it is really unappealing. I might look at the F9 hybrid instead. Thanks, good review.

They were the Bazookas ( 3,5,7,9,Sw) and felt very hybrid like ( draw biased) but they get the ball up in the air. I added a PW ( HP4) and it feels much like the Cleveland Launcher to hit. I also added a e-521 6 iron with the Houdini sole, but I am not that impressed with the turf interaction compared to the Cobra rails concept.

    Nice vid Guys, I always enjoy club reviews where the tester is a similar age to myself it is then much more relevant to myself and my game.
    I'm certainly not a fitter but the heavier shaft in the Cleveland set seemed to suit Steve more than the lighter shaft in the Cobra. I changed to KBS Tour graphite shafts in my Orka Irons (I'm not sure if they are available in the States) and the increase in weight really helped me tighten up my dispersion and gave me a 5-10 yard increase in distance. Being heavier somehow gave me more confidence to swing faster with the heavier shaft, which seems pretty counter-intuitive but it was definitely a factor.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the feedback Bandit. The shaft certainly is an important part of unlocking maximum performance and for Steve, who at his age generates some pretty good club speed, a little heavier or even a stiff flex (in a lighter graphite shaft) could definitely make a difference. For this video, we just wanted to take a look at how the two clubs performed with their stock shaft options, but exploring some different shafts in these irons would be a good subject for a future video!

  • @krusher74

    A 50gram R shaft in the cobra seems very light for a player with an 82mph swing speed, would that flex it and let the face open, giving him all those misses to the right. If he's in sales he needs to start using swing speed instead of ball speed, as you can have a low ball speed but higher swing speed etc due to smash factor

      We're definitely looking forward to getting the T-Rails outside and seeing how they perform from different types of lies in the hands of a good target player for them. Like you, we expect they'll be very good, as has been the case with Cobra's hybrids and fairways and the rail technology that they utilize. The reality, however, is that we're in Minnesota, so when we hit mid-October, which is when we first got these irons, our chances to get outside and do any testing are pretty limited, and we simply didn't catch a day where we could make it work. But it's on our radar for sure.

      Marc, the idea here was to test these two irons against each other using someone who better represents the target player for each. It wasn't about how either would fare against what Steve plays now or about perfectly fitting Steve into one these models. We could do something along those lines in the future, but in this case it simply wasn't going to make sense to have someone like Thomas Campbell, with his speed and at his ability level, test these two irons to see how the numbers turned out. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

    • @marc6652
      @marc6652 4 года назад

      @@2ndswing I understood well. But as those clubs are supposed to be easier to play, lighter, adapted to mid handicape golfers, and more forgiving, I'm surprised that a golfer like Thomas doesn't gain anything with them. However, even if testing clubs with the same shaft is the only way to compare them fairly, you're review is very informative.
