I'm 83 and love my 3yr old Halos. My ball striking has improved and scored my age 4 times this year. Three of my golf buddies have just switched to Halos. At our age, who cares what they look like if they help your game.

There are golfers who care far more about what they and their kit look like than how well they play. More posers than golfers if you ask me. The pro at my club has a bag of mixed clubs of all ages and pedigrees and he uses whatever suits him. Stick to what gives you the best experience and you are a winner every time.

Back in the 17th century, 2 Englishmen, John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham, formulated a philosophy called Utilitarianism: that is, an object or process should be judged by how useful it is. Personally, I ascribe to this philosophy and I use the Wilson LP2 irons which are quite similar to these Clevelands and give me a better game than my old MacGregor Tourneys ever did. So, use what works best for you and that will make it beautiful to you.

I did test them (and competitor offerings) thoroughly. Like you, what impressed me was the ability to play a variety of shots, and surprised how easy it was to hit low ones. Equally, I thought normal shots might be a bit higher. I agree that sound & looks are both ugly but feel isn't too bad. First, the bottom of the XLs look like a direct copy of the Cobra T Rails (or maybe vice versa)
Secondly, they are not really ugly just a bit chunky - bit like me so I may be biased!!. The irons which were truly ugly were, as others have mentioned, the Cleveland VAS irons and slightly more recently, the Taylor Made MCGB.
Finally, these clubs are not really designed for higher swing speed players but for a more senior golfer who is losing some club speed they are pretty good

Nice video. However, a video comparing this year's clubs with the earlier model would have been even better, useful and informative. Also, a like-by-like comparison with some other alternatives from Wilson, Cobra, Callaway for example would make another great video. Make them as informative, long and detailed as you want. We would love it even more!

I just bought a set of the prior generation Halos. Loving them so far! I still don’t understand the concern over appearance. The only “look” I care about is the one on the scorecard. Putters come in all shapes and sizes and no one gets in a twist over the variety of “looks”. Should reviews of putters not shaped like a blade include constant criticism of appearance?

I had an earlier version. The long “irons” performs ridiculously good as a medium swingspeed mid handicapper. I really miss them.

Almost 6 minutes of talk about ugly before we find out it's a 7 iron. How about telling us the actual loft? I think too much is made about "looks" of a club for a high handicapper. If you can knock 9 strokes off your round, I guarantee you will get used to the looks.🙂

The white lines are for alignment. Most game improvement irons have them. Clubs aimed at professionals (blades for example) might not have them. My Rogue ST Max irons have them, but the ST Pros do not.

Alex, two things. First, every time I hear a club on any video that I have watched, they all sound the same. It is just a click. Some are louder than others, but they are all just clicks on my monitor. Second, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It just looks different than other clubs. I have a set of "hybrids" that I got years ago that look almost exactly like those clubs. I couldn't hit them, so they are sitting in my graveyard of discarded clubs (my spare room). I have had and heard some terribly sounding clubs. I have a Wilson Spine driver that I used to use that sounds like you are hitting the ball with a Mason jar. It has a hollow ring to it. A friend has a PXG 211 driver that sounds the same. My PXG 811X driver sounds great.

I have a full set of the 2023 halo irons and they are the easiest to hit irons I have ever tried. I also think they look just fine. To call them ugly is really just a question of aberration of taste.

@HowGoodGolf Thank you, you're the best. I will give them a look. How often do you change irons? I have a set of Calloway RAZR XL that are at least 10 yrs. old. They are kind of like the Halo XL clubs, ugly but fit my old man swing a little better. Appreciate you helping people like me play better.

Only problem wit those clubs is inconsistent distance. They fly 10 - 25 yard windows which makes it hard to hit greens.

I don’t think he intends to demean anyone who plays the clubs. This video is your example of how a product can reach its intended public, if we just get over the uncommon look. Performance and the results make his reaction of the club more valid. Ugly. Large. Horrendous sound. But.. it works. Very good of this guy to display it.

The problem with golf is you have to worry about what you look like on the course... its a giant fashion show. Personally I just want to have fun. I just started playing at 45 and these type of clubs should help me get on a course with some practice also. If someone says something I'll just say I cant hear and could you write it down on your pga tour card. People need to relax about others and just enjoy the game for what it is while playing with friends.

I own a set of Cobra Transition S Hybrid Irons and I gamed them, but I also own a set of Cleveland HiBore Hybrid Irons I custom built and I am gaming a set of Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Hybrid Irons. They are fantastic and gave me the length back I was missing with my TaylorMade Burner Plus irons. If you have had health issues like myself you will play Irons like this to keep your game up to par. I have a full shoulder reversal, been on dialysis and had a kidney transplant. My 7 iron went from 170 yards in 2013 to 147 yards present, until I changed to the hybrids and now I’ve got my distance back to almost normal. My 7 iron is now back 165ish.
    Give them a try.

If people play hybrids, how would this be ugly? It’s more like a 7 hybrid that flies like and iron. Full face grooves may not be necessary. Maybe don’t need a entire set, but as long iron replacements it seems like a good option
