Great to see you making content for the not so good (yet) golfers! Keep it up.😀
Peter, I am a Professional Clubfitter and I have built many sets of super-forgiving game improvement irons and “iron woods” or hybrid irons for many high-handicap golfers (including my wife), and every single one of these golfers has been extremely happy with the results. My wife has improved her game by nearly 20 strokes over 18 holes (from around 120 to 100 strokes or lower), and two of the other high-handicappers (or non-handicap golfers) have reported similar improvements.
I play with a wider & more forgiving set. When do you feel a player should go to a more traditional style? What benefits are there to go away from a more forgiving set?
Pleased to see the Launchpads in the mix! 🎉
@@PVCGolf - there is no hard and fast rule about when you should play what type of irons (or any golf clubs, for that matter). I have seen 20 handicap players who insist on playing blades or “players irons” and low single digit players who play super game improvement clubs. It is really a matter of personal taste and playing whatever clubs appeal to you.
@@dougmael great info. Thank you. I feel my problem is playing consistently. If I play more. I play better. I don’t think my irons are the problem.
@@PVCGolf My problem is I try to improve on the course instead of the driving range. This year I'm taking regular lessons and hitting the driving range. I have played golf for over 40 years and when I was playing my best was when a teaching pro was helping with my swing.
Love whenever I see Sub70 getting a shoutout! My 699 Pros are amazing.
Good stuff Mr. Finch. Funny how you were saying that the 70 golf irons were heavy. I know for myself going to heavier irons has helped me significantly be able to feel the club head and I haven't lost any distance but I'm a lot straighter with them. That's why I love my persimmon woods. Nice and heavy and I just smooth the ball right down the fairway. most of the time. Like the song says "He ain't heavy he's my brother." Well done sir.
I've been using Cleveland Launcher HB irons for a few months now... got to say I love them, and I still play to 7-10. Plus the amusement of saying I'm hitting a hybrid... (for every shot) hasnt worn off yet.
I have the new Launcher Halo XL's. I love them. I guess you call them a hybrid iron, I am not sure but they are so easy to hit and the easier I swing the better strike it so they are game improving in that way to. Still love my Vokey wedges though. The DW won't be replacing those.
@@alittlelooney5361 I stop at the D wedge and then have smithworks 52 and 56 wedges.... They provide feel and versatility
I play Srixon zx4 irons 7-PW. From there I go 23 and 26 degree Mizuno 923 Fli-Hi hybrids with the same steel shafts as my irons, the Modus 105 in stiff flex. Then I have Callaway 21 and 17 degree utility woods with the HZRDUS RDX black 5.5 flex shafts. I’m loving this line up!
Always happy to see a Wilson club review
I stayed playing golf again in June of this year, I bought a second hand set of Adams idea hybrid irons. I have played fairly well with them, and have been considering purchasing a new set of Wilson LP for a while, now I have two other sets to consider 🤣.
Great content as usual.
Brilliant. I have 4,5&6 Adams hybrids in my bag. The 6 is the go to club to get out of trouble. I am a senior high handicapper. It will be in my bag for the three club challenge in the new year - putter, 6 hybrid and driver! Ha ha
Great review, always nice to see something aimed at high handicappers like me rather than just the next set of beautiful but unplayable blades from TM/Ti/Cal 👍
I've been using Wilson defy combo irons for three years now and will probably play with them for a long time. Suit my slower swing speed.
The eleven golf hybrids are intriguing, glad you reviewed.
I fit and build Sub 70 and Eleven irons and hybrids. I am seeing great results with the Eleven hybrid sets with slower swing speed players, you over power the shaft a little hence the spin and launch having a negative effect on the carry distance. We can custom fit with stiff shafts should a player require that. Thanks for reviewing though.
Pete, surprised you didn't include the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons which are generally considered one of best SGI sets around
Yeah done a few vids on those, lots of this kind of iron around
By far my favorite golf channel, Pete is the best!
Thanks pal
Such a beautiful swing.
I had a set similar to the elevens some years ago I bought them to help cure the shanks! You can't shank hybrids one season later I was using standard irons I currently play Apex irons off 12
Put the launch pads in after your video earlier this year. Typically 90-100, shot a personal best 85. I had a lot more confidence with the launch pads
Nice review Pete
Got the launch pad 2 earlier this year and after struggling for a few years I’m finally back down to single figures, absolutely love them.
You’re down to single handicap playing the launch pad? That’s awesome. I wonder at what point when somebody would stop benefiting from them
I’m about a 15 handicap and in high school golf. Should I get these?
To be fair I’ve been playing off single figures for around 20 years lowest 6 but hovered between 7-9, as I’m getting older (60 in a few months) I noticed a big drop off in my irons distances and saw my hcp climb to 11 last year, thought I’d give them a try and I love them, good distances and almost feels like a bag of hybrids, still have normal specialist wedges though. Since getting them I’m back down to 8 again 👍
I have the Wilson LP 1's and I love them! I'm an 11 handicap and these have helped inspire confidence in me. I've had them for 2 years and I don't envision getting anything else anytime soon. My favorite is the PW! So easy to hit and chipping around the green is like cheating. I've recommended the LP's to others as well! I love Wilson though. I have the D7 driver, 3 wood, and 3 hybrid as well! Also a wilson 60 degree and putter lol
Glad to read that. I have a set of Ben Hogan's from about 20 years ago and have been eyeing the LPs for a few months now. I play to a 9 handicap and am hoping they are a bit more forgiving than what I am currently using. How do you like your driver? My miss is a hook so trying to find a new driver that compensates without paying $700 lol.
Great for me to read this. I'm 51 and a 12,6 hcp. I've realised I might need more help than conventional clubs can give me, so LP 2 are high on my shortlist for new clubs.
Hello from Utah in the states. While game improvement irons are awesome! I use them and love them actually. I'm a 7 handicap and am considering moving to a more workable blade iron. I'm using Mizuno jpx919, a great mid to low handicap forgiving iron.. I like to club down, flight balls down through wind or out of trouble as well as work the ball right to left or vice versa. What clubs do you recommend? I love pings, blueprint or one of the I series, I 59's? Any others you recommend?
Would love to see you play nine holes with your standard irons, and also with the launch pads, to find out if elite players could benefit from super playable clubs 😎
Never seen a RUclipsr play a round with super game improvement irons and it would be nice to see. I wonder if it’s purely a pride thing. Are they scared they are going to score better?
@@riggz5496 James Robinson played 1 over on 9 holes with only the launch pads and a putter. He achieved level par when he did the same thing with Takomo 101s and a putter, so take that as you will. Judging by the video, it absolutely seems like it's still possible to ruin shots with SGI irons like the launchpads.
I used Wilson as a kid. Still keep a
Wilson wedge in the bag. They make some great stuff but they need to improve their marketing and maybe improve their mid range. Their beginner stuff is excellent value and their top of the line blades are beautiful.
Nice!
I thought Cleveland had a set of Launchers out as well (the average golfer did a video on them I think), very similar looking to the Wilson’s here.
Been playing Sub 70 699 Pro 2i and 4-PW for over a year and love them and the only regret is that I didn't go for one of their smaller blades.
I love my launch pads my irons are alot more consistent and i now average 180 meters with my 5 iron
I have hybrid irons am gaming the 0211 z from pxg and love them
I’ve been using the Sub 70, 799 irons for the last year. Yes, they are ugly but they work so well that no matter what other irons I try these are the very best do me. I cannot be more pleased as well with the service that you get with Sub 70, they really are so much better than the big boys!😊
Did you go to the studio for a fitting ?
Thomas Golf, full hybrid sets, full wood sets, full chipper set, also Pine meadow golf offers the same, both very good clubs worth testing
Recently new to the channel but loving the content!
Cheers pal
Great video! Loved it. Just one point sand will scratch any paint. They use sand paper to remove automotive paint, which is incredibly durable, lol.
Awesome work Peter. Love the montage of all the different lies you can hit the Elevens out of. 😂
Interesting vlog Peter; did you really hit the ball using Kieran as a tee holder?
I could probably play with the Wilsons but the Sub 70s would only be used to poke a coal fire or mixing tins of paint.
Cheers
Clevelend Halos are nice too
Great video
Hi Pete, I would like to know your thoughts on the Wilson Launch Pad vs Cleveland Launcher. I’m a 20 handicap who just plays with buddies for fun. I want to upgrade from second hand Adams Idea A7 clubs to something more forgiving but from a trusted brand. Thoughts?
Those elevens look similar to a set of Thomas Golf hybrid irons I bought. They go all the way to a hybrid lob wedge. And it works in bunkers.
This is your best review. Hilarious also!
Would have liked to see more use of the shot tracer Peter.. How about testing the Cobra rail iron set as their supposed to also be game improvement irons ?
Nice, and a bit funny, test.
Interesting to see the changing attitude towards this type of club.
Remember Nike's version that didn't go so well. Maybe they were a little ahead of their time, or maybe the clubs weren't good enough.
🔥🔥
Big hello from Oklahoma,USA
What happened to the custom irons you got fitted for? I don’t recall a follow up video with them.
Hi Pete. Where do you see one length clubs fitting in to this debate on game improvement irons?
Always wanted to try some, but really limited supply and always expensive.
Good stuff as usual. I'd love to see this test with an actual 15+ handicap golfer, your swing is good and you hit the center of the club FAR more than a 15 handicap.
On the list for next year
Going in the opposite direction - to thinned-down butter knives on hickory shafts, I simply could not hit those SGI clubs. The Eleven hybrids in the lofted end of the bag would be especially difficult to get my head around. It would feel like finessing a driver from 60 yards out 🥴. But it's good to see so many different skill-level golfers getting good results with them, from the comments below.
I would like to see the cobra t-rail tested in this category
I have sub70 699 pros great clubs
I played mizzy blades for over 25 years
I need another one of these videos for my high swing speed, high handicap, and high launch (shamefully).
You forgot the cleaveland launcher halo's...
They would be good for a beginner and priced quite fairly.
I am confused, your video labeled the clubs differently than what you explained. The picture depicted the sub70 as the all-rounder but you said the Launchpad.
"Sounds like you are hitting the ball with a kettle" - made me laugh out loud. will be stealing that line.
I think I need to stop overrating my skills as a golfer. Granted, I've lowered my hcp for two straight seasons since coming back to golf, from 15,7 to 12,6. But in that time I've not really struck the ball consistently good, using first Vapor Flys and this season Mavriks. My biggest issue is not getting any decent height on anything longer than an 8 iron, probably due to swing speed. I want to enjoy golf as much as possible, and I'm not when I don't get consistently good strikes. So I think I'm going to have to go the SGI route to enhance my enjoyment. The Launch Pads are high on my list for new clubs. But the looks are a bit off putting.
Also on my list are
Ping G400
Ping G700
Mizuno JPX 919 Hot Metal
Cleveland Launcher XL
All in graphite shafts.
Season is over now where I live so will spend the winter researching.
Will gladly take advice on the best SGI irons from the good people of YT.
I think I'm answering my own question here but what if you don't necessarily struggle with launch or strike but simply love hit hybrids or hybrid type clubs. Is that enough to pull the trigger to switching? Pure enjoyment? Not sarcastic question but truly an honest one. I'm thinking about it but not really in one of the categories of a player you would think would switch. I just love hybrids. Thanks for your thoughts.
If you like the look and feel go for it
What about playing around or two with game improvements , and matching up scores to your gamers ?
Think These are the Launch Pad 2.. Considered those but decided on Callaway Rogue ST MAX OS which are just below Launch Pads and are considered just Game Improvement instead Super Game Improvement.
I may have misunderstood the context but here goes anyway. Sub 70 Golf is an American company located and manufactured in Sycamore, Illinois. Upon a Google search... Eleven Golf is a British company located in Hereford, England. Nothing that I've found (yet) connects the two...
I never thought I'd hear a golf club referred to as having a weird arse. Thanks Pete!
I bought a set of Wilson LP this year so far so good has reduced my handicap by 3 it gives me more confidence in my play as they not only feel good but I think look ok. The only issue I have had is build quality as my 8 iron club head decided to detach itself from the shaft! Which was sent back to Wilson for repair.
Cheers
Scenery in your video looked like the desert southwest in America.
Can you review the caley clubs 😁😁😁
Sub70s 799 are so awful and ugly that I’ve sold two sets for them. Let your friends try them and they’re sold. I’m a solid 14 and work too much. I’ll be down to a 10 this year. 5-p and 3 Cleveland wedges and they have made golf fun again. Pair them with a pro v and they play like regular irons but instill confidence if you like hybrids. The finish is ingenious as there is no color to scratch or scrape off on the backs. I challenge you to beat their customer service and custom fitting to your specs. The variety of shafts are amazing too. It didn’t shock me you chose the Wilson’s. Nice name brand for sure but in this category no comparison for price and quality along with custom orders. Ty for the review. I enjoy your videos. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So is the swing weight really high hi Dee’s maybe even E’s
what are the parameters for High, Medium and Low handicap?
"Hitting the ball with a kettle" got me hard! 🤣
Only critique of the video is that i feel the lofts should be at least mentioned since you are showing the launch angle but those could just be up to how you're swinging it
I really wish there were a category of game improvement irons that offered forgiveness but without the added distance from strong lofts. I am a mid handicap player (about 14 at the moment) but I hit pretty long... just badly. I don't need extra distance, but do need help taming my inconsistent strikes.
Cobra Air X! More traditional lofts. IFeel and sound is really nice. Spin is good, height helps with stopping. I ordered the 4, 6-P at 36.75” to play as one length then added lead tape to swing weight them properly. Have roughly a 12 yard gap between them(ordered at 4 degree gaps). I play the Air X driver and a the 3 hybrid as well. I play a Bridgestone 54 and 58 standard wedge. For me, it all works well and makes golf easier. I was playing blades and was a 10 HC until I hit these with a guy I got partnered up with on a course. I’m now a 4 HC after 4 months with them. They aren’t as sexy as my Edels, but they perform better for me. My miss with all clubs was always to the right, now that miss really just doesn’t exist. My two cents.
I always loved Wilson irons. I just never bought any,
Maybe do the same test with a high handicaper. That would demonstrate the forgiveness.
I'd be more interested in height and landing angle. These clubs were meant for high handicapper and seniors. These golfers have long clubs into greens and therefore need stopping power and a high spinning golf ball such as kirkland 2.0.
love the videos as always , keep up the hilarious inserts in the videos (although really need to see the launch angle and follow through on the kieran mouth tee shot ) ...HOWEVER can you please stop with the iron cover hatred , yes i use them and a big part of using them for me is my outright early onset alzheimers ... i cannot lose a club on course if i have still got the head cover in my pocket ....also helps with thinking about + being certain about which club to choose for a shot ....and look there are dozens of other things about some people on the course to be annoyed with than head covers ...or even on the planet there are 400 trillion 987 billion 369 million 420 thousand and 3 things more worthy of being concerned with than whether someone uses iron covers ...its like many of the prejudices on this planet i just dont get how it can affect someone else if i do something that has no possible real world actual effect on them ? ...end rant
The problem with gams improvent irons, is they are also anti slice, and I hit a hook
Your comments about how ugly the club is makes me wonder weather you are interested in performance or appearance? Results are the most important!
Hi Pete
I thought I wanted to move from a hot metal to a more players iron forge tech ? But in fact I went with T400. Once I hit such a powerful club i decided it was a better way for me to lower my handicap and enjoy golf. The other option is to practice every day so I can find the middle of a beautiful bladey club , but have no time for anything else in my life. Maybe it’s cheating but Tennis players no longer use Wooden , lacquered rackets so I am ok with it.
I’m surprised Cobra T-Rails didn’t make the list
Go play a round at one the courses you played in comps and compare your score. Im sure we all like to make golf as hard as we can.
Jack is indeed the goat
The 70s compared to your Titleist were like 700RPM difference on ball spin. Where the Wilson was less than 200 RPM less than the 70s but had a greater launch angle. I'd rather have a higher launch angle with very slightly less spin RPM. You're not going to be able to stop the ball as much with the 70s.
I am morbidly curious what swinging a PW hybrid is like.
Pete could polish my club anytime
Further proving that we’ve become obsessed with the tech, when in fact, it’s all bout the operator. As my Father says, a bad workman will always blame his tools. 😂
Takomo 101’s
Pete, why wouldn't the best and most forgiving clubs be chosen by top professionals? That would make them even better, wouldn;t it?
I'll stick with my stealths
Those Wilsons look awfully like the Cleveland HB3 irons from over a decade ago?
They're some fugly looking clubs but if they help people get into the sport or even stay playing then that's easily overlooked.
Would have preferred a test with someone who actually might NEED these, Pete.
Looks do matter, but performance & forgiveness should matter more.
Hey just wanted to let you know at @11:16 when you say "off the GOATs head", you actually didn't have it on Tiger Woods head. An honest mistake I'm sure.
My friends dad who plays with us often uses the Sub70 799's. He's just played the 2 best rounds of his life recently.
The Eleven Hybrids have a VERY similar appearance to the Adams Idea A12OS hybrids.
Hello. Is anybody there?
Lol they work, but !
Totally think you have more than 1149 clubs....but whose counting
Can you clean my clubs pete 🙂👍🏌
There's really no reason to make the music significantly louder than when you are talking. It's actually quite annoying.
I clicked like, but I found myself a bit disappointed in the video. Here's the thing I want to know: How accurate are you with these game improvement irons. You spend the video talking about how they look, spin, and launch angle... and you never really consider whether YOU should put them in your bag. I want to see you test them for real. What is your average dispersion? Pick the club that wins that test, regardless of look. I'd bet that one of those sets ends up in your bag.
Seriously? Pete is a PGA professional and these are clubs best suited the high handicappers and seniors. I very doubt they'll end up in Pete's bag!
@@AVDFI1961 That's what I don't get! Why are these clubs not suited for a scratch golfer? Because all of the other pros would laugh at him? I have a suspicion that pros are resistant to these clubs because of the stigma, not because of the performance. C'mon Pete, show us what happens.
Those sub 70 sgi are disgusting! Lol 🤣
