  • In this 147th installment, Jimmy continues with a look back at his Jazz box guitars with a follow up look from two years ago when he purchased his IYV IJZ-300 Jazz Guitar from Amazon in October of 2020. This guitar is still currently being sold on Amazon as of this video date and is another example of a nicely made, inexpensive budget guitar made in Vietnam by Inyen Vina Guitars. Welcome to “Jazz Box Wednesday”!!

    Just a flat-out awesome guitar. One of the best in my collection, and might be the singular best deal I have ever gotten on a guitar. Or anything for that matter. I mean... what I received for that amount of cash.... insane. Mine was literally perfect - right slam out of the box. Awesome guitar. Playability, tone, comfort, sound, versatility. Everything. Unbelievable guitar. Cool vid, Jimmy!

    It was actually your first video of this great guitar,that made me get one and I'm sure glad I did, I wasn't expecting the tail piece, to add such a slinky feel and excellent playability, to this beauty, the pickups blew me away too, always been a big fan of the 175 Gibson model, and this guitar can rock or sound good clean, a must have for anyone on the fence about getting one,keep up the good work Jimmy.

    I just received my IJZ-300 TSB. Love it, except for a shaky bridge tone control and the paint/finish on back and sides zero "burst". Intonation was perfect and only slight lower of bridge done. Sounds and plays well. Thanks for the recommendation. I paid $182 plus tax; free shipping on Amazon. Just incredible

    Another great video Jimmy! I have to agree this is probably the best value guitar I have. I’ll never sell it. I bought it in 2019 I think. It has the older headstock style like yours and a burst mahogany back! I like it so much, when I saw a newer, used example I bought that one too. It has the newer headstock and a burst maple back. It has a thinner body and weighs noticeably less.

    I see that IYV is now selling a couple of new Acoustasonic-style NYLON STRING models, including a JM-style IJC and a somewhat Chet Atkins-like ISC! Boy, they’re really going WILD over there with all these new models… How about that TEN (!!!) string bass?!?!? That thing is INSANELY HUGE-it must be almost as big and heavy and complicated as a piano!!!!! Personally, I’m still waiting to see them do more of their models in kit form-I just can’t get over what a huge difference that makes in shipping costs! As for the IJZ-300, it’s still gorgeous as ever. I also like that Monoprice LP gold top clone with the soapbar P90-type pickups-that remains one of the most GORGEOUS guitars in your collection!

    • @JimmyStewart1

    • @zuperdee
      @zuperdee 2 года назад +2

      @@JimmyStewart1 You mean one can theoretically request *ANY* of their bolt-on models to be shipped in kit form now?!? I only see the IJGAP explicitly listed in kit form on Ebay at the moment… If I could request ANY model in kit form, that would be KILLER! Even with $86 in shipping costs, it would still a pretty compelling deal. Even better would be if they offered combined shipping on multiple guitars… I don’t know how much of a difference that would make.

    Great review. I just bought one from Amazon on sale for $197.50 shipped (tax included), but next day it dropped to $147.50 shipped + tax (about $14.50) OUCH! But still a great value. Two questions: 1. Was this recorded using your Stage Right 15 Amp?. 2. Are you the same Jimmy Stewart that did the duets with Gabor Szabo on his "Sorcerer" live album? If so, I want you to know that I bought that album way back around '68 (or so, when I was in my mid 20's) and was completely blown away by "Space", and it's still one of my all time favorites.

I would go over in your mind exactly what type of tone you are going for and if the pickups you are looking at will help you achieve this better than the stock pickups. How much $$ are you willing to invest? I think the stock pickups are actually pretty darn good! This is a REALLY good sounding guitar, possibly one of the best semi-hollows IYV makes. Its bigger brother IJZ-500 doesn’t seem to get anywhere near as good reviews. I wonder how the IJZ-300 compares to other semi-hollows in IYV’s line like the IPF-300 or the ITF-400. Should I get this one as well, or is my IPF-300 good enough? 🧐

Bottom line: The IJZ-300 was actually less flubby on the low end AND less harsh on the high end than the Epiphone 335. The difference on the low end was somewhat surprising, given that they both have PAF-style humbuckers and Gibson-like scale lengths. 2) I’m sure it’s different from the IPF-300 or the ITF-400, but the question is HOW? 😉 3) I also wonder now if this would make a good Beatle guitar… I wonder how it compares to something like the Gretsch Country Gentleman that George played, or the Epiphone CASINO!

      Of course we have a single P90 in the Grote vs dual humbuckers in the 300 so differences exists…as I stated before I think, these were the reasons I wanted both, and I think they make “good” Beatles guitars…it’s that more “jazzy” feel…wider bodies…arch top design with the bottom tail piece gives them a different voicing.
