  • In this 192nd installment, Jimmy continues where he left off in comparing the Firefly FFLS with something in his stable of guitars. The FFLS is certainly unique, but if he had to match it up to something, he believes the IYV IJZ-300 would be closer in feel and vibe. Thanks for watching!

    The world of cheap, well made guitars is such a gift. I've been doing my at home comparison of the FFLS, the IYV IPF 300, IYV IJZ 300 and the FF Crossroads . I also have others from both brands. The IYV's to me all seem to possess a softer, mellower even somewhat muted feel, and the Firefly's a brighter crisper sound. I think I tend to pick up the IYV's for noodling and wandering the fretboard, and the Firefly's when I want more clarity and focus. Or maybe I just be trippin' . Good comparisons and I appreciate the switching back and forth over the base track. Always enjoy these Jimmy, keep up the good work!

      Hi Scott…it certainly is a different world for guitars….😎
      I am not sure if I think those guitars you mention from both IYV and Firefly ( I have them as well with the exception of the Crossroads) are more “mellow” or more “crisp” per say…I think the pickups and body style have more to say about it, along with tail piece, bridge system, etc….always appreciate your stopping in and sharing your thoughts! So glad to hear you enjoyed it! Much thanks…🎸👍

      The exception for me would be the FF338- acoustically it seems muffled and tight, while the Crossroads is very lively. Maybe it has to do with the amount of the top coat finish? Thanks again!@@JimmyStewart1

      Heavier guitar I think…isn’t the Crossroads smaller body and trapeze style similar to the LS?

      I have both the FFLS and the Crossroad. They are very different but interesting. I swapped out the p90 soap bars in the LS for Slick pups..Big improvement !! I have a pair of 1960:s Epiphone dogear p90's I plan to drop into the Crossroad. So far, my only criticism of FF is the microphonic pickups..they both play great and are very well built. For $189 plus shipping, adding pickup upgrades is no sweat :-)

      Yeah…their pickups can certainly be “hit or miss” but hopefully, with the upgrading planned for all models to include Alnico 5’s going forward, we should start to see some consistency with the pups. I have a few older models with P90’s and those were pretty “snarly” in a good way…🎸👍

      Hi Cornerstreetband!! So glad to hear you are enjoying the channel!! Truly appreciate the kind words and congrats on those guitars too!! I use mainly D’Addario 9/42’s on the majority of my guitars, including the IJZ 300. Thanks again for stopping in!! 🎸👍

      @@JimmyStewart1 thanks for the quick reply! appreciate that... I mostly use 11's on my acoustics and put those on this guitar but they are a bit to heavy , making the guitar hard on the fingers.. I will try those lighter gauges! again thanks for replying :)

    💥🎶🎸 Jimmy!!! With the flanger, I think the IYV had a pleasing smooth tone. The nature of P90'S has a bit more grit, more umph.
    Very nice indeed if I say so myself. Love the comparison...

    It’s a little hard to get a sense of the guitars’ natural sound through the flanging effect, but the FFLS definitely sounds much brighter and slightly edgier than the IJZ-300, especially on the upper registers-that FFLS has a truly UNIQUE sound on those high notes that really shimmers! In a pinch, I bet the FFLS would make a rather nice little miniature jazz guitar!

      Hi PG…as always, appreciate your stopping in my friend. I wanted to give a little “flavor” to them both while doing this. I have full reviews and “clean” examples of these guitars already, but yeah….the LS really does shimmer in the upper registers….much thanks for watching! 🎸👍

    You have a strange concept of what jazz is.
    I have over 7000 jazz CDs, by the way. And at no time did you play anything even remotely jazz-like.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  Год назад +1

      You are correct in that I wasn’t playing “Jazz” in this video…the intent was to pick up were I left off in the comparison to other guitars. In this I stated the LS felt and plays more “jazzy” in similarities to the IYV 300. My other video in this series showed it in comparison to a couple other similar small bodied semi-hollows. I think I even stated towards the end of the sound samples “In this case today….”
      Appreciate your stopping in…much thanks! 👍

    Hello! I'm curious(and I need to watch more videos). After you unbox a Firefly guitar 🤔 do they require tweaking/adjustments?
    Sometimes, stuff happens via shipping. So compared to an Epiphone or say a Sir ... is the out of box setup/settings the same? Requires more or less?

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  Год назад +1

      Hi Gerald…thanks for watching and commenting. Really depends on the guitar honesty as I EXPECT to have to tweak any guitar bought on line. The FF LS in this video is completely stock and I have not even changed the strings yet…just tuned it up out of the box. The last few have required nothing on my end…usually the factory strings are the 1st thing to go, then after acclimation, I do a basic setup/cleaning depending on what I find after string change. I prefer D’Addario 9’s on most of my guitars. Hope that helps…Yes, you have a lot of videos to watch…🤣👍
      Full reviews and some setup videos are here should you be so inclined…appreciate your stopping in! 🎸👍
