    In that guitar, I like the P-90's. It really comes alive. The style you play I think lends to the brighter sound. Neither pup is wrong, it's all about what you want out of that guitar. Music is about having fun. Cheers, M8!

      @@jeffmurdock8321 I have come to really like the p90s better than the original humbuckers. I don’t use a lot of gain so there’s really not a noise issue. They are brighter and a little more twangy than the humbuckers. Thanks for the comment!

      @@guitarstuff735 Yeah, twangy is the word, like a Telecaster. I like it. I hesitate to call these P-90's though as they are not wound like the real thing. But, rather, they are single coils in the P-90 style. I just put them in my 1996 Washburn HB-35 and I do like them.

    Damn, those p90s really clean up the tone

      There’s is definitely a difference. I’m having difficulty getting the pickup height correct so that all the strings respond evenly. For $35 they’re pretty good! Tricky to install never having done before but a fun project.

    Man, I love the P90's! I'm gonna buy a Grote LPF002
    (Semi Hollow LP) which has HH w coil splitting. I saw a demo and the split humbuckers in single coild mode sound very P90's-ish.

    I prefer the original pups. Jazzier, mellower. The 2 models have different horns. I talked to IYV, they say the curvy is in production now.

    Hm. I am a P90 fan, and I think sound more versatile than the humbuckers, even though I love the ones in my IYV (same model, softer horn). I think you can do a LOT more with the tone control on the P90', to shape the sound! Great video, thanks!

    Don't know if you are still checking comments on this. When you installed these, did you just hook them up straight, or did you try wiring them out of phase or something to eliminate any single coil noise when both pickups are selected? By the way, I rebuilt (remanufactured) a horrible Glarry telecaster with a humbucker at the neck and used one of the pickups from this set along with a decent bridge pickup. Very clear and open sound unlike any of my other guitars. Can't hardly do this if all you have are expensive Fenders and Gibsons...I actually bought the pair planning to do exactly what you did with this IYV-IJZ-300. Haven't changed those pickups yet.

      @@GWBridge I had no idea (from an electrical standpoint) what I was doing so I copied what the original wiring was. Except I believe (it’s been a few years lol) these p90s had 1 less wire? Because they are single coils? So I found a diagram somewhere on the internet that was closest to what I thought made sense. The hardest part to me was getting the volume and tone knobs back up through the holes! My gosh what a pain. I used fishing line attached to them to wrangle ‘em back into place. Now with that said, I don’t play with a lot of gain or distortion so the noise is barely an issue. This guitar sounds great amd the only real issue I have is keeping it in tune if I’m doing a lot of country style bending. I think it’s because of the trapeze bridge. It’s not meant to do that. I put locking tuners on it which improved the tuning by about 90%. With a hard tail bridge I think it’d be perfect, but you lose a little of the airy sound? Maybe? I definitely like these p90s better than the humbuckers for my purposes.

    Nice. By chance would you know the size of the shafts for the knobs? I'm thinking about getting one of these but I want to change the knobs. Also are those humbuckers ceramic or alnico?

    • @guitarstuff735
      @guitarstuff735  10 месяцев назад

      I believe the shafts are standard les Paul size which are 1/4”? Not sure what the original humbuckers are as far what the magnets are. Pretty sure they’re not ceramic?
