    I want to thank Inyen Vina for watching and contacting me with information on this model. The body is in fact maple, with a solid mahogany top as stated, however I incorrectly stated that the neck is maple, and in fact is actually mahogany as well! Thanks Inyen for the info and contacting QA on the glue issues! 👍

    • @bluwng
      @bluwng 3 года назад +2

      It’s usually Mahogany body and maple top, although for a hollow body and from a structural standpoint a maple body makes more sense.

      Yep....maple back and sides, with maple block down the center. Solid mahogany top and neck.

    Thank you for your honest review. I am looking at getting one today, and that is what brought me here. As long as it has a workable neck - body feel, and a working truss rod, I will enjoy the heck out of it. I don't expect much for 200 bucks but I will soon see, as the deal is done. Cheerz!

      Hi Jeff…appreciate your stopping in and sharing! I think you may be surprised by what this guitar delivers once you receive it! Like any guitar bought on line, “stuff happens” but I have found that IYV has been pretty consistent (in a good way) in providing a instrument that exceeds expectations for its price point! Congrats on your new Jazz box, and be sure to let me know what you think upon receipt, ok? Thanks again for watching and commenting! 👍🎸

    Of all your IYV guitars you've reviewed, this one is the most beautiful. That sunburst on the neck is a nice touch. Ditto if you get it on the back, too. It works really well with the binding along those maple sides. As far as tones go, this one does show off some rich, deep tones. I think this one is a play it clean type with only little gain when needed. Another beauty IYV. Great review, Jimmy! I see why these guitars can be in stock one minute and gone the next.

    Hi Jimmy, thanks so much for this (one of your best) review. I have compared different inexpensive semi hollow body style guitars for weeks. Read all the customers reviews on all and I chose and bought this one last night 🌙. Your review put the last nail in the sales coffin. Also I liked how you started this video 📹. People come looking for immediate gratification and answers and you pulled it off by the intro to grab attention and follow-up with the details. I like how you walked through the guitar with the camera with narration on each point 👉. That really gave us a Birdseye view.
    Good job overall.

    Jimmy,
    Just dropping in to see what condition my condition was in.
    I managed to pick one up a while ago when it was "on sale". So wonderful. Im grateful for your fantastic review. It helped me a ton to decide.
    I'm totally amazed with playability, sound, and general wonder of this guitar 8t is great. I played quite a few hollow/semi 's before I decided to take a spin. Ibanez, Harley Bentons, Fireflys, Gretch's, D'Agelico's...they are all great...but considerably more mula. This guitar has great balance, comfort, and is a joy to play.
    Thanks again Jimmy. Very nice purchase...

    Thanks for the review. Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Reviews like yours definitely put me in mind to snap up one of these guitars. Seems like what you said may be the case - Vietnam may be to guitars now what Japan was in the mid 80's. My mid 80's Japanese Stratocaster is my best electric guitar, though it cost me less than just about all of my other guitars (and that's quite a few). My sense is these IYV instruments are in a real sweet spot for all involved - maker, seller, and buyer. If I like this IJZ-300 as much as all the reviews suggest I'm going to, I'm probably going to need to snap up a 500.

IYV (Inyen Vina Guitars) has been putting out some great models, and this 300 is right up there on my list. Yes, like any guitar, you may have some setup and overall cleanup to do, along with changing the strings and such, but that is expected on just about any guitar you buy online regardless of brand and especially at this price point! In addition to my previous comment, you might consider a set of Thomastik Infeld Jazz Bebop 11’s (my go-to’s of recent years on my LP, Superstrat and Tele types)-pricey, but long-lasting and surprisingly easy to bend, and the tone will really bring any guitar to life regardless of what it cost … 😎

      I have a number of guitars, across all price points, and the IYV’s consistently punch way above the weight class…CNC machining, stable work force, in house design and no middleman with word of mouth advertising is how they keep the price point down. Well Jimmy, I have one of those arriving tomorrow! I enjoyed the very helpful review. I have 2 IYV guitars already, the Les Paul one( great gutar) and the 300 thiinline, I was thinking about getting the 400,because of the P90's,and the cool red. I notice you wanted to run D'addario 9' s on it. I have an Ibanez Artcore that I run 11's on,fir the " jazz" sound. I was gonna put 10's on the new one,but if you like the 9's on yours,I will run them and see what I think.! I enjoy your reviews and thoughts. Thanks.

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting Michael! Congrats on your new IYV Jazz box! I usually use the D’Addario 9’s on most of my electrics, requardless of scale. Just gives me a stable feel from one guitar to the next. The IJZ-300 took 9’s very well. Of course your playing style and what you want to do with it will dictate what you prefer to string it with. If you are running 11’s on your Artcore, you may try something lighter on the IYV just to see what you think. I also have the ITF-400 you mentioned thinking about as well. The P90’s in it make it a totally different animal to the ITF-300, but both guitars play/feel very similar.

    I love mine. I changed the strings to D'Addario Chromes Guitar Strings which so awesome for a jazz, substituting .009 and .012 for the High E and B. Then adjust the neck slightly to remove some buzz on those high string before the 5th fret. At the moment, Amazon has is stock along with the IJZ-500 which looks true to the ES-175 thickness. This one is more like the ES-175T (for thin). I like to my guitar tech, the ever-so-awesome Jessica at Strait Music in Austin to work her magic. Thank you, Jimmy Stewart! I think the Ibanez Artcore guitar cases would be close, or something in the line of the ES-339. If you can take it with you to a local music place to be safe, that is what I would do to get the correct fit. It’s to big for a LP case, and it’s to small for a 335 case. I didn’t find the pups on mine microphonic. I believe the pups on this guitar to be pretty decent. The CNC Destiny Wound pickups tend to be a bit more quality pup that IYV uses as compared to what Firefly uses IMHO. I have a few 338’s as well, and like them all. One thing is the consistency of pickups in the Firefly models…some sound quite good, others are pretty microphonic. • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  3 года назад

      Thanks so much....differences....flatter, and bit wider fretboard, as the Asian market runs just shy of a 14” radius the Grote and Firefly’s I believe are 12”....it’s smaller than both those as well, but heavier. Size wise smaller than the 335 and 338, larger than a LP. This has the “trapeze” style bridge, so you do get the overtones/ring from behind the bridge. Some like this, some prefer a stop bar. It’s a more jazzy/acoustic sound, even unplugged. Mine had a bit of glue overrun from the fretboard markers, but other ten that the neck/fretboard and frets were done well. Tuners are on par with the Firefly and Grote....very similar. Not the best for sure, but adequate to get the job done.
      The build is very good....the pups sound decent as well. Hope that helps a bit....😎👍

    The finish on this guitar is absolutely STUNNING, including that beautiful sunburst finish on the neck! I wonder though, how does it sound acoustically when unplugged? Through the pickups, at least from your review and all the reviews I’ve seen here, I must admit that it sounds a bit underwhelming somehow. Is it better than the IJZ-500? I’ve also seen a review on here of this one, and the guy stated that although IJZ-500 was incredibly beautiful and solidly built, it just seemed acoustically “dead,” and sonically just really underwhelming, especially given how big and heavy it was, and just not as successful in terms of musical qualities as other IYV guitars have been.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  2 года назад

      It sounds about the same as most semi-hollow Jazz box/335 style guitars sound unplugged. I find the pups in this kind of “lacking” as well, and wish it had P90’s in it instead of the humbuckers. They sound fine for light/clean use, but get a bit muddy when adding gain. The guitar is quite nice however, and I really have no complaints especially for the $$ paid. I have heard others say the same thing on the 500 you mentioned. It’s BIG…where as this is slightly larger than a LP….

      @@JimmyStewart1 Aha!!!!!! I think this could be an interesting customization project for you!!!! Luckily, those humbucker-sized slots open up TONS of possibilities, including P90’s, Filtertrons, Mini-Humbuckers, and almost everything else! From your other videos, I do sort of gather that P90’s tend to be your favorite pickups. If you really think P90’s would be better for this guitar, the easiest and classiest looking option might be some Humbucker-sized P90’s with either black for a traditional P90 look, or Chrome covers to match the rest of the guitar’s hardware-I can show you the links on Guitar Fetish if you want to see the possibilities! All this being said, I do rather think humbuckers seem appropriate for a guitar like this given the intended genre, but I just think even compared to other humbuckers out there, these ones totally lack in sonic character and sound just plain muddy somehow! If it were me, I’d probably go with another humbucker that just had more character and clarity, like an Alnico-2 PAF or even a Filtertron.

      @@JimmyStewart1 That makes total sense! I have an idea! Since you like offsets and pickups with greater clarity, how about a Fender/Squier Starcaster guitar? To me, they seem almost like a cross between a Jazzmaster and an ES-335, and they have a truly unique and AWESOME headstock to boot! It’s a shame they originally came during the darkest days of CBS-owned Fender with such poor build quality, because the design was absolutely AWESOME! From what I hear, the modern Squier reissues are better built than the originals, even though they now use a Gibson-style Tune-O-Matic/tail piece instead of the string-through-body bridge of the original.

It's pretty comprehensive, and the comparison to the other guitars helps make a relative measurement. I have to say that I do find it interesting that the majority of guys that demonstrate jazz boxes, don't actually play jazz on them in the videos. It's much more like rock or R&B or blues, usually. It would be nice to hear a little Wes Montgomery style guitar playing. (Ah... but wait a second... there's a little smooth jazz-ish sounding stuff on the end of the video. It's kind of R & B, bluesy stuff. Good.) Also the audio on this video is good. It's nice an clear. Good job.

      Hi Michael…thanks so much for watching and commenting. I have not really played with any drop tunings on this (except Drop D) but see no reason why it couldn’t handle drop tunings depending on what you are wanting and proper string gauge. The guitar has a nice “jazzy” feel to it, and I tend to bend a lot, so for a more “bluesy” feel, I string with D’Addario 9’s on mine. Others prefer a heavier string or even flat wounds for a more “Jazz” oriented tone/feel. It has a nice “warmth” to it regardless. I have a LOT of guitars, so it’s hard to compare it to all, but in the semi-hollow realm, it’s right there as one of my favs…hope that helps a bit! Guitar was worth every penny and more! • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  3 года назад

      That’s a tough question, as each guitar you mention is a different “animal”. I own all three brands in this “style”, but they are different. The Firefly FF338 is more styled like a Gibson 335/339 with a slimmer neck, bigger bout. The Grote is styled similar, but with P90 pickups, but more of a Jazz box with a trapeze. I also have the new Grote 335 style. This IVY is a very nice guitar…well made and very decent sounding Humbucker pups. It’s a wider neck than the Firefly/Grote…again more of a Jazz style than a blues style like the 338. Is any of them “better”? Depends on what you are looking to play on it…all 3 do a nice job with clean/spanky blues…the P90’s in the Grote sound pretty good with milder distortion. The IYV has a smaller body style, bit wider neck (which I like, but some don’t) and looks/plays great. I don’t think you could go wrong with any of them. All are around the same price point now, so it’s really what you are looking for…the color finish you want, pups you want, and availability of any of them. Build quality is about the same on all, with perhaps a slight edge to the IYV for fit/finish on this model for the price.
      Thanks for watching and commenting….good luck with whatever guitar you choose. This IYV is one of my favs….but check out my other reviews on the Firefly’s and Grote’s too if you want a bit more info on those. 👍🎸

      No, not that I am aware of Raymond, nor have I seen any. You could go onto IYV’s web site where they have information as to “custom orders”. Only problem with that of course is the price is certainly going to increase due to it being made to order, along with the cost of shipping a single guitar. It’s a option...you could also look at the Thomann Web site to see if they have a similar model in their Harley Benton line as IYV makes some of their models in their factory in Vietnam. I don’t know if they offer something similar, but they might. Or....you could “flip” the bridge and nut, and string it lefty...controls would then be up close and personal, but still doable.

      Mine weighed in at just about 7lbs exactly. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍

    What are the inlays made of?

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  Год назад

      Hi Floodland…thanks for watching and commenting. Not positive on the inlays. They look like abalone, but I doubt at this price point. Probably a type of plastic material, however they do look good and were done well on mine. Thanks so much for stopping into the channel! Much appreciated! 🎸👍

    21:39 Please someone tell me exactly how to make the guitar have this sound

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting Ben…in that section, I am using a small amount of compression, a bit of reverb and delay and blend to taste😎
      Appreciate your stopping in to the channel! 👍

      My pleasure…I believe I was using my Sonic Cake Twiggy Blues unit during this review as my memory recalls.

    J - is the bout about as wide as a les paul?

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  9 месяцев назад

      It’s wider and slightly thicker…think Ibanez Artcore in size. Not much larger than a LP, but wider and thicker as it is a semi-hollow but much smaller say then a 335 or 339…smaller than a ES 175 as well.

  • @officialdandaman
    @officialdandaman 3 года назад +1

    Is this their version of the 335 ❓

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  3 года назад +1

      No…this is more styled after the Gibson ES-175 T (their thin line version). The body is just a bit larger than a LP, and just slightly smaller than a 175. Difference being is the 175 was a full hollow body, and this has a center block like a 335. Hope that helps…👍🎸

      @@JimmyStewart1 it's always been just learning one note at a time and chord configs are all equally easy i think so it's just what i'm used to. although guitar selection gets limited. i actually just today reneged on my decision to get this over that fretloss issue. got the Eart 335 copy arriving tomorrow anyway. And, as i had money to get another right now; am getting the amazon Squier Starcaster for a more rock side. so pretty happy. This IYV had such a deep rich sound though it's a shame for me. You'll have to do more vids with it so We'll have access!;-)!
