    I just got my IYV this last Wednesday. I'm a newbie but a friend of mine came over put new strings, .008 - .038 D'Addario NY/XLs, on it and set the intonation. It sounds as amazing as it looks. I too am blown away. My friend is talking about getting one because he is very impressed with how well it is made.

    J-MAN,
    I received my IYV IJZ-300 two days a go from the Amazon. I'm the kind of person who tends to do their homework, before pulling the trigger on any purchases. I saw this guitar, and it intrigued me as a sort of voluptuous LP hollow-body. I saw all the un-boxings, and all the reviews, here on RUclips, and watched the Amazon for several weeks, as the price fluctuated. I bought mine during what I refer to as a "stupid sale". That's where the price is so low, if you don't buy it, you're stupid. I got it for $166.11 USD ! The specimen shipped to me is incredible! "Tobacco Sunburst"? Mine looks like a lighter shade of "Iced Tea Sunburst"! It's breathtaking!
    It might need a little fret work, fret polishing, new strings, set-up tweaking, etc. I've only been playing this acoustically. I can't wait to put it through a tube amp, to see it shine!
    The only mods I see, in the short-term, are the replacement of the TOM bridge (for a brass roller TOM), and a knock-off of a tremolo tailpiece.
    I'm not a true guitar player, but I've been playing "at" the guitar for 50 years. Meaning, I can play lots of cords, and play things that sound like recognizable songs. I do believe this guitar will make me a better player. Like anything else, the more you do, the better you get. And I plan on playing this guitar a lot!
    Keep doing the great videos (I love them!) and rockin' P.E.I.!
    Best regards,
    "59Tebo"

      @j-man9457  Год назад +3

      Hey Thanks so much 59Tebo! Much appreciated! Wow you got a sweet deal on this guitar! That definitely is a stupid price lol! The set up stuff you're mentioning is totally common. Even my past high end fenders needed fret work, bridge upgrades and pickup swaps to get them playing and sounding like I liked them. That's why I don't buy them anymore. I finally got past my Ego, and realized that the name on a headstock doesn't make a guitar good, although mabe it should and many "purist" really think it does!
      IYV puts out some amazing playing instruments. Once you add your personal touches to this one, I have no doubt that you'll have trouble putting it down! I was so impressed with this one I demoed. CRAZY GOOD!
      Thanks for sharing 59Tebo, enjoy the new guitar sounds kike a beauty! Keep ROCKING!

    Just picked one up from Amazon. 150 American. Great out of box. Intonation spot on. Imperfections here and there....150 was a steal. We have come a long way. Cost as much as my beginners guitar that my parents bought me back in the 80s. Night and day in quality

      @@j-man9457 No, the 80s had decent budget stuff. A lot of it was built in Japan or Korea. You had to go back further than that to get to the really crappy budget stuff..... like the mid 60s Teisco guitars (drug store guitars.) Heck even the Harmony guitars of the mid 60s were decent.

      @@KenTeel no clue bud... all I know is I got my first guitar in the late 80s. It was a Jap strat and I remember it was just ok. I had paid 600$ for it! These busget guitars today are rediculously good for half that price to your door.. Crazy!
      They need some work but so did my 80s strat hahaha...

    • @KenTeel
      @KenTeel 7 месяцев назад

      @@j-man9457 $600 for a Japanese Strat, back in the 80s ? That should have been a pretty decent guitar at that price. I paid $175 for a Fuji Genn guitar (LP style, think lawsuit era) in 1980, and it was a very nice guitar, though it was not branded as an Ibanez, but was the same thing. Remember Gibson sued Ibanez over the headstock design (with guitars made in the Fuji Genn factory.) The lawsuit era guitars were widely considered pretty decent guitars, enough so, to concern Gibson (and that was in the late 1970s) That $175 back then would translate to about $450 in today's money. So, I agree that the relative prices have gone down for some decent guitars, now a days.

    Well, I wasn't really planning on buying a guitar right now, but I've been seeing a bunch of videos of these lately. I was somewhat interested, but had plans for others in the works. But then Amazon put a coupon on these and I pulled the trigger! $150US delivered in 2 days!
    I changed the strings and did a few minor adjustments and have been rockin ever since! Fantastic guitar!!
    I play a lot of different styles, but this guitar handles them all really well! I'm not sure that 1 guitar could cover all I need, but this one certainly comes pretty darn close!
    I dont want to put it down and just looking at it makes me want to play it even more! I think some of the others on my wish list are going to have to wait... and may not be on the list any more!

I immediately found it kind of funny that they called it their Jazz Guitar - I mean... I had the exact same instant reaction as you! I mean... sure. You can play Jazzy stuff on it. But this guitar is just killer, and it rocks hard! The pickups on the one I got are smokin!' And incredibly comfortable and playable. Perfectly set-up right out of the box. It is a solid body violin shaped bass with a beautiful cherry Sunburst. I mean you can slap won this days. I’ve had fender, jazz and precisions and this thing is up there with them. I don’t know how he does it at this cost and I’m only speaking of the guitars I own but they’re all professional great guitars. I keep going back-and-forth with the jazz guitar and the green basketball which is also a killer by the way, I YV is the man’s initials of his name which I can’t pronounce. All of these IYV’s are keepers I have some high-end guitars Martin’s and Gretsch but I will put my guitars up against anything out there. I have some Band-Maid to our guitar snobs and they won’t even touch it because they’re afraid it will hurt their feelings but when they hear me play it, it makes him sick and I know why. I’ve been a pro musician for 40 years, but if I was to hit the big time, I would still keep these guitars and use them.

      The older it gets the better. I work with a couple of guitar snobs who refuse to even touch this guitar. They hear how good it sounds but I don’t think they can deal with the fact that some of these company’s are putting out instruments as good as theirs at a fraction of the cost of theirs. The Guitar world has changed America does not own the Guitar world anymore. We’re not the only ones who know how to make guitars now these companies have caught up. Unfortunately I’m sure the workers are not making very much money and we benefit that’s the sad part, but I still have my jazz IYV 300, and it just gets better and better with age, I watched your video again and read our conversation with each other, and I just had to reply once again.

    That Tele thing you bought was a Lemon. I have been playing 50+ years and have played and taught for my living. I have some high end guitars but I bought the Green Les Paul that was fantastic. So much so the next week I bought the Mustang/Jaguar hybrid. It had such a great single coil surf guitar sound. Two weeks later I bought your Jazz guitar. The description read semi hollow body. I must’ve been real lucky because all three I YV‘s came in absolutely pristine condition. Not one of them needed a set up. The neck height was perfect, the internation was right on oh I got to tell ya after seeing what this company has done with the three guitars I bought at least so I can only speak for them only thing I can think of was American made guitars is that they’re just overpriced. They’re not worth what you pay for them these days and have not been for a long time. Sure they sound good play good but you pay three grand or more for it. I gig with these guitars and I play in the studio with them as well. I guess I used to be a guitar snot but I can’t be anymore., I used to and play several Rickenbacher 12 string 360s. Now I play a Danelectro 12 string and it is the best sounding 12 string electric or acoustic I have ever played. And that’s we’re going extensive search on the Internet that Dan electric 12 string seems to be the 12 strength of the pros now. I am not managing to know this but Prince play his entire career a Honer telecaster copy that he bought from someone in a gas station or $35. That was a guitar he played all through purple rain and was his main guitar until he had those strange prints sign guitars that begin with a prince logo. sometimes you just find it , the right Guitar for you. I pay the lotta money for my Martin acoustics and my Gretsch. But I love my IYV guitars and I will never get rid of them. The home bucker pick ups on the Les Paul and the Jazz Guitar are the same pick ups but because the jazz guitar is a semi hollow body and the Green Les Paul is a solid body and the tone characteristics make it completely two different guitars because of their different build. iPhone several Gibson Les Paul‘s and some may think I sound foolish but this Les Paul even know what it’s different than a Gibson Les Paul but I can’t say that it’s better. It’s just different. This jazz guitar played through a good tube amp with a little overdrive makes it one Rockne guitar. For now on instead of being a Guitars not because of the name written on the Headstock I judge you guitar on its own merit. I found three that I absolutely love. I can’t tell you that they’re all consistent but I can tell you I lucked out and received three very well-built guitars and I couldn’t be happier.

      Hey Darryl!
      Wow thanks for the very detailed comment. I don't think you got lucky... IYV, from the comments I've received from many others who've bought them seem to be very consistent guitars fit and finish wise! Sounds like you have some nice ones as well. Congrats. I'm like you in the sense that I no longer care what name is on the head stock, only how it feels in my hands when I play it. Unless it's a built by hand, totally custom guitar, tailored for you, paying 2 grand and up is just rediculous!
      Enjoy your guitars, and keep rockin'!

I came home changed it to a bit heavier strings, 11-49, polished the oiled the fretboard and polished the guitar and plugged it in. All I have to say is that I am blown away by the quality of the sound. I have much more expensive guitars that don’t sound this good. Make no mistake that the guitar does look and feel more like a $400- $600 instrument, but, boy… the sound is terrific. Even the intonation was perfect after heavier strings. The action is like way too low without any buzzing. I think the pickups on this are so amazing. I am not sure how these companies make them so cheap without sacrificing quality. WOW!!! I think you’re the first one I’ve seen do a review of this guitar playing rock, country, and blues styles that way. It’s absolutely true though that ANY guitar can be used for ANY style you want, and if it sounds good for that style, that’s all that matters-if you want an EXCELLENT example, George Thorogood played a Gibson ES-125, which is VERY similar to this IYV model!!! (I think this one is based on a Gibson ES-175TDC.) Or how about the fully hollow Epiphone Casino being used by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones!!! Anyone who insists that a guitar can only or must only be used for a particular style is sorely mistaken. Those pickups are REALLY good sounding, too-seriously, I would NOT change them! I also highly recommend the PRS-style clones made by IYV, like the super lightweight IPF-300 semi-hollow, and the IP-350 solid body version.

      Although I struggle in all those styles, this guitar can definitely do it. These are not styles of guitars I would of ever given a 2nd look at to buy, but after playing this IYV, I'm seriously re-evaluating my life decisions lol! Yes I have heard that the IYV PRS style guitars are really good as well... the problem I'm having is finding one that has a maple fretboard. I don't know why but maple and ebony are the only fretboard materials I like... it's not a sound thing or even a playability thing, just a feel thing I think. For some reason unknown to me, maple fretboards on PRS style guitars or F-hole style guitars are just not common...?

And you’re right all that other stuff is just the name on the head stock and a six $700 Epiphone is $500 too much when you can buy this guitar and in my opinion this $200 guitar should be double that $700 guitar. I get so excited about this brand and what’s so disappointing these days people just don’t think they have a good guitar unless they pay those prices. You said something in your last video that I totally agree with the instrument market in general is changing made in America. I hate to say it doesn’t mean anything to me anymore. It used to, but the quality has went down while these instruments, the quality is unbelievable with an unbelievable price I have a Lotta guitars and I have a lot of guitars like this and drums like the Breakbeat skit by Questlove oh my God it sounds like a $3000 kit.
    I’ve been thinking about doing some research and writing a book about pro instruments that you can buy without selling your soul. Because there’s a lot out there like my danelectro 12 string iPhone three Rickenbacker 360 guitars and they never sounded as good as my Dano. But I don’t wanna get off track, I YV is a great guitar company that you just can’t beat. Do you think a book like that would sell? Thanks again Jay man my name is Darryl.

Then I start working in show bands were people actually had to pay $25 to 30 bucks to get in, the same band , same musicians that are damn good but now people have in their head because they paid for that show all of a sudden they were at a concert and it’s great!

    I've been avoiding that model for quite some time because of two things I don't like the tobacco Sunburst color scheme and I don't like the trapeze and tailpiece. But yeah that's only jazz you can't play anything else on it a guitar. It's it's a jazz style guitar from you know what they used to call it jazz guitar way back in the 40s but I mean any guitar you pick up pretty much you can play jazz on it you can play Rock you can play the fusion crap you can play metal you can play Just or anything you want on any style build guitar these days it just doesn't matter whatsoever but I think the J man is taken by this guitar. I think maybe a trade for the eart might be in order. Doesn't seem like there's much wrong with the electrics in that guitar. I would basically put some push pulls and split the coils to get a little bit more versatility out of it but that's about it, if those are for wire pickups

    When guys say that they'd replace the electronics (I'm not talking about the pickups) I think to myself: I'd like to see them do an AB test with the old electronics, vs the new stuff that they put on. I truly wonder if their swapping of switches, pots, and caps, actually makes a damned bit of difference ? Afterall, say like a switch, all that it does is make contact between two conductors. It's not really doing a whole lot. Unless there is a marginal connection with a switch, replacing it really shouldn't make much difference. The same thing goes with pots. They are basically variable resistors. Unless there is a problem with wiper arm, or the oxide that makes up the resistance, there shouldn't be much difference in replacing this either. As far as capacitors go, if a cap isn't leaking, and it's retaining its full value of collecting electrons, I don't know that replacing caps would make any difference, either. I just wonder how much of this replacement stuff is hokus pokus. I understand replacing pickups because they can have tonal differences (and especially with different magnet types.) But, replaceing switches that aren't bad..... or pots or caps.... really ? I'd like to see someone do a test, and AB where the guys who can "hear the difference" has to tell which is which, without being told. (PS: It's a jazz box. Why not play some actual jazz on it ? ) This appears to be one more case of a guy's hardware requirments (and enthusiasm) being way ahead of his playing ability. This is a fun video though, and it does show the major features of the guitar. Thanks for making it.

      @j-man9457  7 месяцев назад

      Haha thanks! And my playing ability is basic at best!
      As far as electronics, I agree 100% that tonally, there would be no difference whatsoever... just said this because on this guitar, everything feels premium except for the switch and pots. They work but these little box switches have litterally fallen apart in my hand while switching, and with this guitar having to wire and install every through the F hole, I'd just as soon upgrade these componants and be done with it😀

Okk no ly thing I got is a great guitar for now is never going increase in value.,I have a couple of Gibsons and two Fenders that may increase in value. But as a utility guitar, the suit me just fine. Not many people realize this but prince everyone thought he played a fender telecaster. No, it was not a telecaster. It was a telecaster copy made by homeowner that he found on the gas station wall that he picked up in flavin Walther for $35 before he was famous. He use that guitar for his entire career. It was good enough for him like these are good enough for me only I paid a little more than $35 they were Japanese guitars and if you remember Japanese guitars in the 70s were pretty bad. He was lucky. He found a good one. Look at it like this the guitar does not make the player the player makes the guitar which is what prince did. You were absolutely right we’re in the new era of Guitar building a man my word you can’t put down the rest of the world for designing great guitars. Plus, we’ve got computerized routers like I YV uses the same as Gibson and cut down a perfect guitar every time, just like ESP cuts out a perfect guitar every time. What I’m glad love is that I bought the fender copy of the mustang/jaguar. Center put up a big stink because the head stocks were too much the same so I YV quit making those guitars and change them completely to something else. Well, there’s not many of them out there right now and I own one of them what does it gonna do to the Value? I don’t know, but I do know the history of a guitars that when a great guitar is made and there’s not many left, they increase in value. It’s kind of like the Beatles butcher block album cover there’s not many of those around and soon there will not be many of these around. It is really a great sounding guitar and I’m glad I have one and I’m glad I am one of the few that have one. Thank you for your review. It was a wonderful review and you made me feel good in our agreement of this company’s guitar build’s. I could’ve bought more, but the three I have basically runs the gamut of sound. The high YV, Les Paul, and that beautiful, green maple cap, and not veneer like Epiphone makes. The hybrid Fender
      Where is the single coil pick up sound great just as well and then the jazz guitar that we both on it it’s amazing. I can’t say anything more. It’s amazing and I feel fortunate to have one. I will never sell them. I’m a big-time acoustic guitar player and I own my Martin’s and that’s my investment guitars, I record with them but I don’t play them out very much. These are my utility guitars my hammer that I take to work and it does a good job for me. Thank you for your review and thank you for your reply. We are on the same page and let’s keep in touch please, maybe start an I YV fan club. I know there’s a few of them out there but maybe we can make a better one.
