This is great example of how the shot composition, lighting (natural or artificial), pacing, editing, sound design, music, story/flow, etc. all play a big part in that "cinematic" filmmaking. A lot of times we remember how much we liked a particular film or scene, but forget that many times it's the story, the music, the characters and their expressions, sounds, etc that play a big role in making that memory and connection. Sure the cameras have their own qualities to nitpick, but so much more went behind you putting the scenes together. I'd almost tell people NOT to get something like a RED unless they can afford the other necessary tools to go along with it for a good film. In this case (of this video), if you only have the money to buy a RED, don't expect to get everything you see in this video right away. You might be better off buying a less expensive camera, so you can get the lenses, the lighting, book the locations, assistants, hire actors, stabilizers, drones, editing techniques, time to learn, etc. If one is growing in their skills as a photographer or videographer, we shouldn't say "I can't get a good shot on my phone, I need my $2000-$10000 camera. Be right back!" We should be able to say "Hey, I'll just use my cameras to shoot this mockup and not miss this shot...don't worry, I can make it look good!" That's the place I feel we should strive to get to. Great work and examples for us! hanks Parker

I bought my V30 because of it's features and because of the built-in software, not to mention it's ability to go from off to shoot in record time. It's manual options still beat many of the smartphones out there. Because of this, it stays in my kit of things I can use to take quality footage to sell online. There's times when my Sony Alpha can't compete, or if it did compete, the ease of grabbing the phone, dropping it in a stabilizer, and taking the shot is far easier than setting up the Sony. By the time the Sony is setup, the scene is often gone. Plus, there's so many more margins of error with the Sony. RED footage was of course way smoother with better dynamic range, but we're talking about a camera specially built for filmmaking costing maybe 100 times more compared to a LG smartphone with very good optics that fits in your pocket! Smartphones will never have the video quality of high-end purpose built hardware such as the RED cameras, but they are getting close enough that the untrained eye may not even consider that the footage would have come from a smartphone, and that just shows how far we've come technology wise.
It's amazing how far we've come. And the LG actually holds a number of advantages because of weight and size, you can use it in a lot more situations and with a lot less expensive gear (drones, stabilizers).
FireZek bitch slapped in terms of camera quality i believe. And even now on some social media platforms the android camera quality gets downgraded for some reason.
Yeah, on first glance the V30 looks better until you realize that's because of color saturation and contrast. Nothing beats a real lens and big sensor, however, for detail. But the V30 looks awesome and the in-camera controls make it a real winner. Thanks for doing this video!
I guarantee this exact same youtube clip could have been done to the same effect with any other phone, iPhone or Android, and you'd have still said the phone version was better. People always underestimate how powerful postwork is, and how drastically it can improve the perceived quality of a photo/video.
It will NOT match the Red. Different Lenses and Sensor size affect sharpness, brightness, bokeh, among other things. By the time LG comes up with a phone better than the Red Weapon, which they won't, RED would have released a 16k Resolution Camera. The Red Weapon itself is 8k Resolution.
People still buy stupid iPhones... I am LG loyal customer... Never turned back since my LG Cookie till LG V series...Waiting for LG V50. This year I am gonna skip it since I need to find money for my studies.
@@RecordLifeMedia Nope. I'm almost ran out of money and I need to find money for my studies as well so this year I won't be able to buy hence I'll wait untill next year for the successor of LG V40. That's what I meant 😊
The important thing to note is, we don't have to like just one of them. Sure, the 50k RED blows the LG V30 out of the water, but at the same time, the best camera is the one you'll always have with you. In a small package, V30 is already damn impressive.
@@richhilman maybe not the words I would use, but the RED did resolve a lot more detail (the lens) and the panning was smoother. The mobile camera had a jellowy look at times and showed judder.
The best thing about this is you can use and bring this everyday in regular family gathering. Imagine telling your family to smile and say hi in front of a RED.
The V30 is indeed amazing, having that amount of cinema capability in your pocket is very stunning, although for me the issues were the stuff that I expect from the phone. First that IS is trying very hard at every slight twitch making some images look jittery. It can't quite get that bokeh effect despite the 1.6 aperture. And there is some slight noise still. regardless... the damn phone is amazing as it is nearly 1/50 of the price of RED weapon
it can't get the bokeh effect because aperture isn't everything. sensor size is far more important. the sensor is so small the bokeh would be more equivalent to maybe a f5.6 or f4 lens on a fullframe camera, and also 30mm is quite wide anyway.
This video has inspired me to create stuff with this phone i didnt think was possible. It made me realize, its not about the camera, its if you know how to use it
I remember watching that movie in school a while back. Awesome comparison and btw, the smartphone was really similar to the Red (which is what amazes me the most) :)
I'm really surprised. I actually enjoyed the V30 footage more than the RED on most of the shots. It's a little fuzzy and over saturated, but it looks really good. It's too bad the v30 doesn't come with a film degree because I'd have no idea how to do this shit if I had one though.
XDeadzX I think you didn't understand something here. The guy shot the video in LOG. Means the colour of the video was very flat and looked very pale. This lets him colour grade the video later in post processing software like Premiere or Davinci. If you think the video is oversaturated that's because the guy colour graded the video that way.
Having a Film Degree isn't gonna teach you how to make films lol. Film is a time and practice thing, you can't just book learn it. You have to do it to be good at it.
Oh sure, education isn't everything. But you're telling me you can equally brute force your way to experience with no external information, verse being told things by someone who's already gained experience and knowledge? Yeah I'm sure all the successful people are self-made and have never taken a course on anything film related.
XDeadzX yep all successful directors and cinematographers never went to film school and if they did they would say it's useless because it actually is. You learn a lot more from being an intern.
The huawei p30 pro doesn't have good video quality....What it has good only is the zooming ...Of course lg and sony is better in overall camera performence..... Huawei p30pro is actually overhiped and if you are looking for a smartphone. Which is good at every side...Samsung Galaxy s10 is the perfect
Evolution : Machine to Man not so fast . proper slrs still have the ability to change lenses and handle without overheating (except sony) , unless you use some crappy rebel camera , slrs and mirrorless cameras still rule . btw i would like to see a better lens on that red (probably a cine prime it was designed for ) . but still i am impressed by the quality of the v30
친절한경훈씨, throw it to me. I agree. This phone is an absolute beast for low-budget filmmaking. Too bad it's being overshadowed by the Note 8, Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X.

I'm here on my V10... Sigh... Update: my v10 started bootlooping, and a while later I got a v30 thanks to a T-Mobile deal. I've had my v30 for months now and it's worked out great. (The v30 won't bootloop because it has a new cooling system.)
time for an upgrade to the V30 (I'm rocking the V20, and will sell this and pay the difference for the V30). The OLED screen and compact form factor and wireless charging is worth it...all the extras are gravy
I’m surprised at how well the phone did. The RED was more color correct, sharper, etc., but the footage on the LG was really nice, and you have to remember that the RED costs about $13,000 and above. One more thing that I’ll say, is that if you’re going to get a few $300 stabilizers, and you’re interested in videography, then you should just buy a nice DSLR. But if you want something that has phone capabilities, and a nice camera, the LG is a good choice. Last thing (I promise): The Apple X has a very nice camera, with pretty much the same features, you’d just need to get a free app on the App Store, to get aperture features, etc.. So if you’re and Apple user, you shouldn’t switch to LG just for the camera. (iPhone 8 plus is good too.)
You'd have to be stupid to buy the LG just to use it as a camera. You can get a pretty good DSLR for that money. However, if you only have a grand to spend on a smart phone and a video camera, I guess it's not a bad choice.
Whoa! Definitely not perfect but it's perfect for me and this was just a dope video man. The manual controls in photo and video along with the audio controls are why I've chosen the LG V10 and currently V20 and soon V30. They're the only OEM with a phone tailor made for me.
The First Scene from 5:56 to 6:05 looks sharper on LG v30. While for all other scenes the RED is sharper. Are you sure you did not accidently switched footage here?
The RED is shooting on manual focus, along with a larger sensor. When operating remotely, the camera operator needs to heavily rely on a higher aperture to try to get as much in focus as possible. So, yes the LG footage appears sharper because the RED footage isn’t in focus. Hollywood fixes this by using wireless electronic follow-focuses, obviously they were not used here haha
Also the LG's angle is slightly higher than the RED's, which is discernible in the first shot; matter of fact, all shots, if you observe all footage carefully.
Awesome. Good that u disclosed the sponsorship. People, though what was shown is true, dont expect u can shoot something like this with v30 since hjis is actually shot by a pro in controlled conditions using some accessories and theres post editing too. Never the less, v30 is a gem.
I would say the RED Weapon did a better job this time. It highlighted shadows a little better and colors were a bit more vivid. Although, the V30 is sooooo close! Impressive!
i asked my brother to choose which one is better and he has no idea about this red weapon camera, he chose lg v30's picture quality better than red weapon. m shocked
Gabe Hoekman he's not smart about this particular subject, to be specific, and if the average Joe can't tell your $800 camera isn't a $50,000 camera, then LG has done something right
Definitely not. It's great indoors, but it falls apart outdoors. Dynamic range isn't as good as the S8, exposure is far too bright to retain detail in whites, and the oversharpening and oil effect does even more to kill it.
I can see that the LG v30 footage is more crisp and vibrant colors. LG V series of phones are by far the best way to go when looking for a device that doesn't cost an arm and a leg but still packs a punch.
And I can say when a true professional get behind the camera.. it does not matter if it's an smartphone.. he will get the best of it.. hats off to your work guys..
They mixed the red camera images with the V30 ones, its so obvious, there are parts of the footage which are the V30 ones but very few, its like 75% fake
@@2004FordRangerXLT this video is pretty much an LG commercial. Not saying the V30 is bad and the camera is bad or anything, but its wildly over the top

Rodrigo Contreras
100% Agree!
It's amazing how far we've come. And the LG actually holds a number of advantages because of weight and size, you can use it in a lot more situations and with a lot less expensive gear (drones, stabilizers).
Actually it costs 50 times more.

Where the *"Android Quality"* jokes now?
Uhh gone, because phone makers have stepped their game up after being bitch slapped by Apple from 2007-2015
gir1258 android was never bitch slapped. Android is actually the most used os in the world iphone was just very very good at marketing
FireZek bitch slapped in terms of camera quality i believe. And even now on some social media platforms the android camera quality gets downgraded for some reason.
Can you guys bring the debate somewhere else, this is supposed to be a funny comment
Honestly that joke is irrelevant and has been for years now. Lots of Android phones have way better cameras than the iphones
This was awesome, i actually thought the v30 looked better
I agree, because I don't like the bit washed look they put on RED footage, and shallow dof.
Stop smoking crack.
yeah i also liked the contrast they put on lg version's clip but if u look closely the level of details is insane against on the red version obviously
I have this phone. Its a good one. bought it for the Hi-fi DAC tho. it powers my Senheiser 6XX headphones quite well
Do u still use lg?
Next years v40 will probably match the red in these limiting conditions for the red.
I'm really impressed.
It will NOT match the Red. Different Lenses and Sensor size affect sharpness, brightness, bokeh, among other things. By the time LG comes up with a phone better than the Red Weapon, which they won't, RED would have released a 16k Resolution Camera. The Red Weapon itself is 8k Resolution.
actually the red hydrogen is coming to compete with smartphones..
LG has proved that shooting at 60fps 4k is not "being better". Being better is when you have the quality.
Yeah, when you go to the movies, that fps is 24 I think, and the pictures look amazing!
damn LG should have used your footage as their AD
HunteRR exactly what I was thinking

Now that's a person who knows how to use a camera 👍👍👍👍👍
The important thing to note is, we don't have to like just one of them. Sure, the 50k RED blows the LG V30 out of the water, but at the same time, the best camera is the one you'll always have with you.
In a small package, V30 is already damn impressive.
But on this shootout, the Red does not blow the V30 out the water.
@@richhilman maybe not the words I would use, but the RED did resolve a lot more detail (the lens) and the panning was smoother. The mobile camera had a jellowy look at times and showed judder.
It doesn't blow it out of the water.. Especially if it's 50k
The best thing about this is you can use and bring this everyday in regular family gathering. Imagine telling your family to smile and say hi in front of a RED.
IngeniousFirefly really?
Best comparison that i ever seen on RUclips ! Keep up this great job and i want to see how can the other devices do versis the v30
2000 Red weapon owners dislike this video.
Naxx and some iPhone users lol
SAME! i don't think there are 2000 people own iphone ))))))))))
Hahaha
that is because this is a commercial for the LG phone, the RED footage was not optimized to look its best, where the LG footage was.
53K people do not own LG phones lol
Good job LG!
3:10 engraved with the LG V30, coming soon to the theaters the movie of *Guy In A Skate*
Recorded by LG V30

The OLED screen and compact form factor and wireless charging is worth it...all the extras are gravy
alexandergoldman yeah
The sad thing is that I just got an LG G6 and now they released a new phone with way better specs right after. Sigh.
UNKNOWNGAM3r i feel your pain. My V20 is still relatively new (and love it)...but selling it and using the proceeds for the v30... Will be pricey
UNKNOWNGAM3r The g6 isn't bad though, it's like how the note 8 was released after everyone got the s8.
Can't make a call on RED weapon..... Lol
This is sick!

Whoa! Definitely not perfect but it's perfect for me and this was just a dope video man. The manual controls in photo and video along with the audio controls are why I've chosen the LG V10 and currently V20 and soon V30. They're the only OEM with a phone tailor made for me.
Hells favorite angel mike great birthday present then.
2:57 my heart stopped for a second.
The First Scene from 5:56 to 6:05 looks sharper on LG v30. While for all other scenes the RED is sharper. Are you sure you did not accidently switched footage here?
I am almost sure that the upper Video from from 5:56 to 6:05 is Shot with the RED.
No, if you view the first footage with the comparison.
Watch 6:18 and 6:20, LG V30 footage is sharper than RED again. Maybe it's something about the setting in both devices.
The V30 looks sharper in the trees in the corners during drone shots, but the Red looks much better in the face during skateboarding shots.
Awesome. Good that u disclosed the sponsorship. People, though what was shown is true, dont expect u can shoot something like this with v30 since hjis is actually shot by a pro in controlled conditions using some accessories and theres post editing too. Never the less, v30 is a gem.
that's not a controlled environment, it was shot outside
It's a Sonic gem too.😉
I would say the RED Weapon did a better job this time. It highlighted shadows a little better and colors were a bit more vivid. Although, the V30 is sooooo close! Impressive!
Which is better among lg v30 camera and Sony imx camera present in any phone ... Which gives a better quality?
The biggest difference was the detail! The faces and other textures were too soft meanwhile the sharpness of the road and landscape were a touch high

Mayank Mittal well he is not smart
Gabe Hoekman he's not smart about this particular subject, to be specific, and if the average Joe can't tell your $800 camera isn't a $50,000 camera, then LG has done something right
he is not smart because he cannot tell the difference between 2 small videos in a small screen?
Pety the video probably got compressed when it was uploaded to RUclips.
2020, it is still here, with double cams like a beast
absolutely the lg v30 has the best cameras ever in a smartphone i hope i got one :(
Definitely not. It's great indoors, but it falls apart outdoors. Dynamic range isn't as good as the S8, exposure is far too bright to retain detail in whites, and the oversharpening and oil effect does even more to kill it.
Dan Cook yea okay fanboy
The note 8 videos are better.
sony xz1 has better camera
But with manual mode you can adjust all of these , and LG V30 has the best manual mode ever on a smartphone , also the best aperture ever (1.6)
I don't understand how could people dislike this is awesome footage from the LG V30.. great job guys

Real question should be Note 8 vs Red Weapon.
Note 8 vs V30. The differences are very minor. I take long exposures at night with my Note 8, the image quality is insane.
