  • Welcome back to the bench, guys! In this episode, we dive into the age-old debate: Should you build a gun from scratch or opt for upgrades? Join us as we crunch the numbers and weigh the pros and cons.
If you're considering starting with a basic build like the Radical RF-15 and then upgrading it to our QRG 13.9 build, this video is for you. Surprisingly, the cost difference is almost negligible, only around $100 more to buy the rifle first and then outfit it with all the features and accoutrements of the QRG 13.9.
But which option is right for you? Let's break it down. Starting with the Radical gets a rifle in your hands faster, which is a huge advantage, especially in today's economy. Not everyone has the $1,600 upfront for the QRG 13.9. With the Radical, you can start shooting, get familiar with the rifle, and upgrade parts as you go. Plus, you can prioritize which features to pursue first, whether it's upgrading the trigger, reducing recoil with a hydraulic buffer, or getting an ambidextrous enhanced charging handle.
However, there are drawbacks to consider, particularly for first-time rifle owners. You'll end up spending a bit more money, around $100, and you'll have leftover parts. While some, like myself and Matt, don't mind having spare parts for future builds, others may find it cumbersome to have unused parts lying around.
Ultimately, the decision depends on your budget and timeline. If you need a rifle now, starting with the Radical and upgrading as you go is a great option. You can prioritize upgrades based on your preferences and budget, chipping away at them as feasible.
So, whether you're building from scratch or upgrading, there are benefits to both routes. Join us as we explore the journey of gun building and find the path that's right for you. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more content like this!

You get a warrant with one and not the other. Which is a thing for most civilians. I'm sure you can fix something if it's not right faster with your knowledge and other parts laying around. Than most can. Good video.
