poverty state arsenal 😂 i never heard that before 😂
Funny thing about the economy supposedly being so bad right now. It’s better than it was 4 years ago. But there was a pandemic. I hear you. So let’s talk pre-pandemic. Unemployment is at the same ultra low rate it was under Obama and Trump pre-pandemic. The rate of layoffs is 20% lower than its pre pandemic best. The amount of better jobs offering upward mobility is 20% higher than it was in 2019 pre pandemic. America is pumping more oil than it ever has and gas prices are at the level they were before the pandemic crash when no one was driving. If it wasn’t for opec price fixing it would be even lower. The stock market is cranking, with the Dow crossing 40k for THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY. So regardless of political preference, people need to wake up and smell the roses for 5 mins. America is back. Just like it came back strong after the Bush recession when the dreaded Obama brought unemployment down to 3.6% and tripled the stock market.
Dude shut up 😂
Sweet rig, what barrel did you use
My preferred coating is Chrome although I love DLC and Geissele's Nano coated carrier. Modern Armory makes a great Carrier in NP3, I would argue Sionics is the best. They make FCD's NP3 Carrier all are great options
I burned a 10.5 stainless barrel out in 1900 rounds.
Was the barrel torqued to 60ft lbs?
It was disassembled and reassembled at all manufacturer's specs. Updates from SIG have stated bumping that to 80 ft lbs
Same here, I hear a lot of horror stories with products, but I've had good luck I guess with no issues whatsoever with my 2 daggers, 300 BO, and my 5.56 freedom moe upper 👍
Nice video, thanks for the info!
Glad it was helpful!
You get a warrant with one and not the other. Which is a thing for most civilians. I'm sure you can fix something if it's not right faster with your knowledge and other parts laying around. Than most can. Good video.

😩 boo hoo hoo cry babies
I'm sick of hearing about the bendy barrel it's blown out of proportion. Suck it up. You probably loosened tje screws that hold the barrel just to make it worse.
This is the first sig I've ever owned. Wow the sig community is full of cry babies. I'm happy with the rifle. I disassemble all my firearms before I shoot and check torque on all components clean and shoot. Should be common practice and avoids alot of winning when things don't work the way they should.
Considering this was a year ago and we sent a solid 5 in for warranty with updates to the torque spec from SIG, I would say this was a valid concern. Now respect to you for breaking down the weapon prior to use. We have a lot of buyers who simply don't. With that said the torque spec was increased on all of the rifles that returned. Calling what we did whining? Cry babies? That is what is wrong with this community. Be better and use opportunities to help people with knowledge.
Don't push on the barrel.who grabs their battels and pushes it to the side when they shoot anyway?
Any update about the fix of this issue from sig? thank you
Torque the barrel clamping bolts to the correct value. We have had several come through here and have no issues after re-torquing the bolts.
Does this exist only in the LT version?
Correct. The Virtus is not affected.
Sig is beign sig, taking military contracts with bribe is equal to play gamble with soldiers life, that company never ever gets into any military or law enforcement contracts, i don't even mention 6.8x51 drama which is solution of non existing problem, there are millions of problems of their QC and engineering issues since last 20 years, they should be greatfull for they had chance to covered up the biggest ones and they never went online,, looks like also bribing people in german military for making complaints about G36 barrel flex did not help them either...
Another suggestion for those experiencing this problem... increase the torque on your screws in 5 in-lb increments or so until you reach the torque spec. Overtightening one screw while the opposing screw remains loose could cause that opposing screw not to engage the threads properly. In that scenario, it's possible to install fasteners to the specified torque without the fasteners engaging symetrically and yielding the desired uniform mechanical contact. Also, any time a torque spec is involved, it's critical to consider whether the fastener needs to be dry, coated with oil/anti-seize compound, loctite, etc. Because the applied coating will make a big difference in how far the fastener engages at a given torque. Unfortunately it's not all that common for manufacturers to specify this.
Thank you for putting together this excellent test and demonstration. This is by far the best information I've been able to find on this subject, even 7 months later. Questions still persist about how likely this problem is to be fixed by torqueing the screws to specs and I haven't been able to find an official public response from Sig, which is somewhat disappointing. As a result, instead of an MCX Spear LT upper I'm now leaning toward alternative AR-18 type designs including the CMMG Dissent and the BRN-180.
Wow, you all need to get over it. You do realize all barrels move, right?
But they don't stick in place. Go check out @trexarms video finding the same thing. It's an issue and needs to be resolved. As a business having customers return purchases because they cannot keep their zero is an issue. Nothing the users need to " get over". This is on the manufacturer.
Does this only happen in the LT models or has it been found to happen in the 7.62x51 & .277 Fury ones too? Either way, this _really_ doesn't inspire confidence in the XM7/Spear MCX in general, as a platform.
We only witnessed it in the 5.56 LT versions.
Question. Is that a range/ SHTF toy or would you risk losing something so nice to an investigation in a self defense case? I have my most tricked out rifle for the range/SHTF and a basic dependable 10.5 for home and self defense
Different tools for different use cases. AR9 for home and self defense.
One of the nicest I've seen
Pretty wild to see on a rifle that is already essentially gen 3. Also hilarious to see the people saying it's the handguard, as if that could change the position of the flash hider.
Tighten the barrel clamps to 60 in lbs and the hand guard screws to 45 in lbs. DO BOTH. Shocking how making sure something is done to spec gives the desired result. Complaining about this is about the same as complaining that an electronic doesn’t work properly if it was shipped without a battery.
We did....Twice. We have sent multiple back to SIG for warranty and it seems they are coming back with a much higher torque spec. We have heard they are going to be coming out with an update for this fix.
Did a fix ever come out?
Not officially. We are hearing that they are updating the torque spec
@scorpiustactical lol it ain't a torque issue, I guess the answer if wait for the spear 2 for the design fix
@@johnadams673It is a torque issue, try 5 more than the spec.
Did you torque the two barrel clamp screws to 60 in-lb as per the manual to see if it resolves it?
Twice
Could you repeat the experiment but having taken the hand guard off first? It is absolutely impossible that your fingers can "bend" a barrel. I'd like to see what happened at the barrel insert. Thank you
The barrel is not bending. At the lock up of the receiver it is shifting. Tons of people having this issue and Sig reportedly coming out with a spec update or fix.
@@scorpiustactical still, show it without the handguard, most people are parrots repeating what somebody else said
@@scorpiustacticalmadatoppie has a point❤
Could you repeat the experiment but having taken the hand guard off first? It is absolutely impossible that your fingers can "bend" a barrel. I'd like to see what happened at the barrel insert. Thank you
We were short on time and our customers allowed us to use their firearms as the test. We know what you are seeing but the laser on the receiver and the bore sight shows the deviation. The handguard flexes but the barrel clearly does as well.
@scorpiustactical If you couldn't do the test without the handguard and show everyone how the barrel moved in the receiver socket, you were (and are) spreading half truths. The handguard can move that way if it's loose, the barrel however, could never move as much as you show in the video and stay in that position unless the receiver socket was opened by force and probably permanently damaged. All these videos "showing" this problem have one thing in common, the hand guards never come off to show the actual claim of a barrel sway. It even hurts my brain to say "barrel sway", it is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If I were you, I'd get that rifle back, I'd take the handguard off and show the barrel at the receiver and all its "sway". Otherwise, I feel this video is just....not credible
pretty boy toy.
What! Your point of aim shifts when you bend the barrel?? Crazy.............
Nice build, what size handguard did you go with?
13.5" MK 4
Thanks for the info bro!!
Try the same test on different riffles and try using a stand the doesn't move.
We did with the Radical to show a budget rifle does not flex like that. We checked our personals and others on the wall and none of them flexed.
The only armor a civilian can realistically wear all day every day, and the only armor even remotely concealable under clothing, is soft/pistol rated armor. That usually means IIIA these days. Handgun rounds also represent at least 90% of those used in crimes. Not saying no one should own rifle armor, but I don't think most people would be well served by getting plates as a first or primary choice.
This video is deceiving. Your pushing the hand guard and it makes it look like the barrel is flexing. You should pull on the barrel without touching the hand guard. Do that and let's see how much it deflects.
Not really. Watch ruclips.net/video/VHwgvWyExLs/видео.html. We show the deflection with a mounted laser on the upper receiver and the boresight. Yes there is shifting in the handguard as did the virtus, but the barrel is sticking.
SIG update?
Nothing from them yet.
Good info. Since your stand is able to slide and rotate on the floor, a 3rd laser mounted to the stand (and pointed to a consistent point on the wall as a reference) would have ensured that motion of the stand was not biasing your results. Torqueing to the proper spec eliminates the issue for many. ruclips.net/user/shortsDzqI5GsE7k0?feature=share
What kind of for grip is that called
Emmisary Handbrake and the Pistol Grip is a Magpul K
One month later...
We are still shocked as well. To this day only Lucas has mentioned it.
Dude I’m so glad that someone else likes the Magpul SLS and a 14.5!👍🏼🤯🔫
The sls gives a solid cheek weld and the storage is very usable for batteries and such. Not the lightest option out there but for these types of builds they are a great option.
Not laboratory, at all.
No pun intended, I just think this is not worth the effort....except for a video.
@@nunyabusiness7630 You don't think the information that we shared in a limited capacity as a shop should be information for consumers? We understand that standards can be much better, but the information is valuable none the less. Out of curiosity do you own a Spear? We only found this issue through owners of spears coming to the shop having zeroing issues. Also, SIG has confirmed a fix for this is coming out, so yes the problem exists.
How about instead of fucking around with lasers and vices we get an actual range video with an optic mounted and shoot the damn thing. Real results are on paper, there’s a lot of variables that have been brought up that could be affecting the test. Not saying you guys are wrong, you could be on to something. Again, keep in mind this is a modular rifle, it’s not your average AR. Every MCX I’ve used (and I’ve used a few) have been between 1-2 MOA no matter how much they get tossed around.
@bobadebtt387 We would've loved to do a range test but unfortunately we don't have a range at our shop and both rifles that were used in the videos were from customers that let us borrow them. That being said you are right there are a lot of variable that couldn't be accounted for in our testing but our intention for these videos was not to trash the Spear. Instead it was more of a video to inform people of a potential problem they may run into with their spear as well as working to hold manufacturers accountable for products that they put out. If you want a great report Instagram user @bsel107, put out a detail report using data and pictures from a live fire test he did and I will link that below. drive.google.com/file/d/17d-jDJePHyNIDEIONoofD7VI7Ys8qJfk/view?fbclid=PAAabt14FV4AI7kA5x-RHt0DYy32C4XiG4W0gentdRU-Qbs8cNAH-2M23RMvQ
Looks a whole lot like handguard flex to me, which is to be expected with a free-float modular system that’s meant to be taken apart in less than a minute. If you care about precision when it comes to lasers mounted on your handguard, don’t go with an MCX 🤷♂️
Guys, I cheked my gun for several times and I see that the problem isn’t with the barrel. This issue is still with the hand guard. Try it this way: when you bend the barrel let’s say to the left and it’s shifted loosen the left hand guard screw and it will come back to the center again. Checked on shooting range and in my case this is it. IMO there should be a bigger torque value on the screws or some kind of padding. Hope this helped. Cheers
Any plans for followup vids? V curious to see how this turns out and whether u guys have any plans to try to fix it or get it fixed. I have bout 30 more questions but nobody is gonna read a comment thats a mile tall lol
As of right now we're waiting on a response from Sig, we are working on getting an 11.5 Spear LT to test but the ones we've tested in our videos have all been sent back to Sig for warranty work. If you want you can DM us on our IG @scorpiustactical and well do our best to answer any of your questions
@@scorpiustactical appreciate ut fellas! Keep up the good work and stay safe out there
Are we sure this isn’t the handguard flexing? That would make sense why it wouldn’t go up and down really but will flex left to right. Their lockup system sucks ass and I don’t in the slightest believe a barrel would flex like that if it was made of steel. But this is the biggest reason why the ris 2 is my go to handguard and why I dream of an LMT monolithic
Its something in the barrel lockup in the actual upper receiver that is allowing the barrel to shift, a mistake on our part on how we actually worded the issue. We did ensure it wasn't just the handguard flexing (which it does as well) by taping a grid on our workbench and securing the MCX in a vise.
now do the same test with a standard AR
I would say the Radical Arms that we used as the comparison is pretty standard. $650 AR is actually entry level.
when you pull the barrel try not putting your thumb on the handguard. I am guessing you end up pushing the hand guard more than actually moving the barrel. does that makes sense?
The handguard in the Virtus was able to flex. Hence the Arisaka mount. We need the handguard for the slight leverage at the end of the barrel to flex. We know it is a real issue as SIG has notified us now that a response is coming in video in the coming weeks.
@@scorpiustactical That makes sense. I haven’t messed with the Virtus but knew Arisaka made a part to assist with that issue. Funny I called Sig to ask about this issue. I talked to some woman and she said they weren’t aware of this issue. All honesty I don’t think she was part of the tech support team that works on the rifles. Interested into what Sig is going to say about this issue. Great testing and keep it up 👍
Is this actually the barrel moving or the floating guard?
Barrel. The fixed Steiner Dbal on the upper receiver and the bore sight show that.
