This title might be fighting words… hehe. :P
🤣🤣🤣
Ha ha the most immersive ? From a denon ? Ha ha this is a joke
Another great video. Its good to see some variety away from the usual big main driver setups.
Thank you kindly. Unfortunately I have no control over which homes I tour. I make myself available, ask people to submit their set up on my website at www.hometheatertours.com and when I have enough in a general area, I’ll make the trip. I’m all for celebrating all shapes and sizes home theaters
Imagine if this video would've been a ~5 min. tour of just some equipment. It'd be a crime, I tell ya! Thank you so much for keeping this longer. This is AWESOME!
This is my favorite tour yet. He has such comprehensive knowledge of everything about his system. So humble as well. Knowing the pros and cons of different types of speakers, different arrangements, etc. is such a great quality to have. I love interacting on AVS forum but many of the theaters are very similar. It is so nice to see someone with something different with the line arrays. I can tell you that looking at how he has everything set up, he has taken some serious care into making them sound as incredible as they can for every single chair. I always appreciate someone who puts as much effort into his other seats as his own. So many people eq to a single spot and I shake my head because they are ruining the sound for others. I have made it a personal rule that I will not eq room effects more than 3dB to save the integrity of the entire space. If I can’t get a reasonable response like that, then something else needs to change.
Again, I just can’t convey how great it is to see someone with serious knowledge. He may be too humble to say it, but I bet he has as much or more knowledge of audio physics, psychoacoustics and overall real world experience than most system integrators and speaker engineers. He knows where objectivity lays in a system, and where subjectivity lays. He knows the most important areas to spend time and effort as well. So cool!
100% agree with you Noah. Jonathan’s knowledge and passion for the hobby is admirable.
Hi Michael, thanks for hosting my HT spot in your KC tour. I enjoyed your visit, and our time interacting. Merry Christmas!
Thank you Jonathan merry Christmas to you and your family
@@keepingupwiththejones2933 Thank you for the kind response. I appreciate the positive commentary I’ve seen you positing in the live chats over Youthman’s live premieres. If you are ever in Kansas City and would like a HT demo, look me up.
Hi Jonathan! Amazing setup! Would love to know what mounting bracket you used to mount the speakers? Also, looks like on the back of the speakers there's a switch for Equalization (music or speech) and vertical coverage (narrow or broad) , may I ask which selection you are using? Thank you!!
@@MichaelGreco Hi Michael. I responded to this once already but somehow it got deleted. Trying it again. The mounting bracket I use actually is included with the 70J-1 Speaker. It has three axis of adjustment, left right up down and tilt. I use Broad and Music as the passive crossover settings.
@@jvonengeln thanks so much for the reply! I really appreciate it!
I'm an RF engineer and the "line array" concept is old school for antenna systems, but it is very exciting to see how essentially the same principle is being used in an acoustical environment to enhance the sound experience. Some of the same observations for the sound are very much the same for radio signals projected from a linear array of antenna elements. This is absolutely a very well thought out sound system, I wish I was there personally to experience it for myself. Thanks for the great video, I thoroughly appreciated listening to all the thought that went into making this fabulous system.
Jonathan, it’s always so great being in your room. You’ve spent so much time dialing everything in and getting everything as cemented as you can. The speaker and tactile integration is so well done! Here’s to many more get togethers and great nights among friends.
Thanks Ryan. I appreciate our relatively new friendship and your enthusiasm level for the hobby! Here’s to many more years!
Excellent session... I learned a lot.
I agree with Johnathan on the point of ALL identical speakers everywhere... It removes one more variable from the equation list.
Uniformity of sound over all channels/ corners everywhere.
Thx Gents
Like I’ve said for awhile, there needs to be more of these vids. I am glad you have started these tours and giving it to us who enjoy such a hobby. Jonathan job well done and thanks for the knowledge. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you kindly fellas. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos
Ive followed Jonathon on AVS for years and it’s great see him on here! Congrats dude! Remember seeing these speakers years ago at the Barrywoods AMC Prime room in KC. Great job with the video Micheal!
Thank you kindly
@@keepingupwiththejones2933 Cheers my friend same to you! Always great to hear from ya.
I watch all these setups just to see how everyone arranges their sound absorbtion and diffusers, got some slap in my room
Hi Youthman and Jonathan. You did this hometheatre tour justice. You are both well versed in this field and you make beginners like me so encouraged in the hometheatre journey. Thanks once again.
Dude the line array demo at 25:30 is incredible. Usually when moving a camera around, you hear the sound change, but you can literally tell through the video that it doesn’t change nearly at all! That is so cool!
Thanks Chad. Here’s another demonstration of that CBT Line Array Technology. It sounds as if I’ve dubbed over the sound. I didn’t. It’s just a phone recording. As you said you can hear how uniform it is throughout the room. ruclips.net/video/OpB_tBeZptI/видео.htmlsi=LkAxPWb0c7T_RBmo
This series have enlightened me and allowed the inner bass lover in me to come out. Plus looking at the reasoning for the owners picking the systems they have. The one consistent thing in KC is they are rocking and got that bass in spades!
Glad you’re enjoying the videos Reggie
Killer theater! I love the looks of those JBL line array speakers. Tbh I had never heard of those particular speakers until this video. You learn something new every day. I love this hobby!
Best tour yet on this channel yet! Might not be the most impressive equipment, but the best conversation, explanation of reasoning etc.
Thank you kindly
That was so great guys, the hour flew by! Jonathan's room is one of the absolute very best I've ever been in for audio and it keeps getting better. Like you guys mentioned it's so great to have a group of friends here in KC that love the hobby and know each other well but honestly the group would have ever met in person if not for Jonathan reaching out to people on the forum over 10 years ago and getting us all together.
Jonathan rocks
This video has been one of the best ones yet the conversation you had with this guy was wonderful very enlightening
Those are not just any line arrays, they are CBT's, you made a great choice! I've never had the opportunity to experience the JBL CBT's but I have to assume they work well.
Don Keele and I represented Dayton Audio at CES in 2013 showcasing the CBT36 kit, a ground plane CBT as opposed to a full CBT. People were amazed they could walk up and put their ear right in the top set of drivers and it not be any louder than listening from across the room. Btw, it's more than the fact your ear is only close to one of multiple drivers, the top of the ground plane CBT and each end of a full CBT does not play full output. The math of the CBT has the center of the array playing full output, or -0 dB attenuation and infinite attenuate or zero output at the ends of a 180 deg arc. In practice this is truncated typically being about -12 dB at the ends of the array.
I built the first known open baffle CBT back in 2009 for my old theater's center speaker. Don was skeptical of the idea of an open baffle CBT at the time but more recently has published articles along with Richard Taylor concluding that it does have advantages. My new theater will have 9.5' tall full open baffle CBT main speakers and about a 5'-5" wide horizontal open baffle CBT center speaker. Different than your JBL system, these systems will be active to control the shading (attenuation) and part of the center speaker will be DSP curved. I believe your JBL's are passive, is this correct? It's my understanding that they use passive all pass filters to achieve the delays to acoustically curve the array. I believe they are physically straight, is that correct?
Great job on your theater, you are certain to enjoy those CBT speakers. I'm sending the link to this video to Don, I know he will enjoy seeing it. I can send you links to the original US Navy papers and Don's published papers or you can probably find them just by searching Keele CBT or Richard Taylor CBT etc.
This is very interesting and thank you for sharing!!! The JBL CBT 70J-1 are not physically straight. Their big brother the JBL CBT 1000 is. These 70J-1 have a little bit of a curve to them that you can see in the video. JBL has LOTs of great testing information on their website about them, including polar plots, for all the passive crossover options. Also Audio Science Review (ASR) has tested the JBL CBT 70J-1 on his spinorama and came away pleased with the results and happy with the subjective sound of the speaker. It won't let me link URLS here or I'd have linked you to both for convenience, but they are both easily discoverable through a websearch. I'd love to hear your open baffle line arrays when you are complete. If you are part of this design effort my hat is off to you! (and Don Keele). You guys who create this kind of thing are the stuff of legend to the rest of us. If you are ever in Kansas City Area and would like a demo, I'd be happy to offer you one, and it'd be nice to talk more! I post as Archaea on the various internet forums, and you can find me at ASR or AVSforum - fairly easily. Michael linked my room thread on avsforum in his description. Feel free to PM me any time!
@@jvonengeln "Design effort..." Don't give me more credit than I deserve, Don, Richard Taylor and others are the geniuses on this stuff. Don helped in the design of my CBT center speaker back in 2009, the only contribution I made that was different was to make it open baffle. I had been doing open baffle since 1994 so it was only natural for me to combine the two technologies.
More recently Richard Taylor along with Don, published papers on open baffle CBT. Don was kind enough to give me credit for having built the first one. In this paper, "Implementation of a Dipole Constant Directivity Circular-Arc Array" you can find a link to my old open baffle CBT center speaker in the introduction paragraph.
As for the JBL, I notice that it is curved at one end but this makes me wonder, is it intended to be an asymmetrical CBT? I've often wondered about the possibility of building such a thing, I need to ask Don about this. I'll also take a look at the URLs about it, I've been going back and forth on what to build for side surrounds, conventional 2 or 3 way or some kind of CBT. A ceiling mounted ground plane CBT might work but if the JBL can create an asymmetrical pattern that could be directed then that might be the ideal solution.
I suspect Don might want to audition your theater, he's planning to audition mine if I can ever finish building it with my 100% travel job. I have the next two weeks off but there is a lot more than two weeks of work to be done. I'll be talking to him in the next couple days and I've already sent him the link to this video. I would definitely like to audition yours if I'm ever in that area. When mine is eventually completed, you and of course Youthman will be welcome.
Edit: I should have searched for those URL's before typing the above, yes it is asymmetrical, they call it a "J array" and it's definitely something I need to explore. I think for the surrounds, it could be a perfect solution. I still prefer full CBT for the mains and horizontal CBT for the center but for the surrounds, this looks to be ideal.
@@mfkhometheater7742 I am humbled to even think about Don Keele having a passing interest in visiting my HT space. Of course he or you are welcome anytime.
I have to say this one has been the one I have learned the most from out of all of the tours so far
Understandably so. It’s pretty phenomenal
@@Youthman I noticed all of those amps for the subs are xlr balanced inputs. Is he running rca conversions on them? I would love to know how he is time aligning everything. Mini dsp maybe?
@@Crazymonkeyskills Jonathan mentioned he uses MiniDSP. He is either simply using an RCA to XLR cable or running it through a converter like an Art Cleanbox. There is no real difference other than the CleanBox can boost your signal on a long run, which sometimes Denon AVR's require a bit of help with.
@@shaneducholke364 thanks for your input!
@@Crazymonkeyskills you're welcome my friend
Have seen/ read his thread on AVS forum long back...He got very very impressive system.. Thank you @Youthman for bringing / sharing on your channel.
JBL you can never go wrong!!!👍🏼👍🏼 Great set up brother
Youthman, videos like these are what we want. Theater tours are good but when you add that conversation aspect, it's just killer.
You've got a formula that works. Keep it going.
Thank you Kevin. I’ve been getting feedback from my audience to find out what they are looking for. I want to provide as much value as I can through my content
I like this system, maybe I might buy some of those jbls myself!
I’m a sound guy for past 20years. I got into home Hifi sound/speakers. And in hifi, it’s a whole different type of speakers from pro sound. Recently got into home theatre, and I tried using the nice expensive hifi speakers, and I notice they don’t work that good. Recently I realized that home theater sound is great with pro sound speakers. And that’s right up my ally! I thought about line arrays for ht myself many times but didn’t know if it’ll work, and this is the first guy I’ve seen do it, I guess I’m going to try this next!
Awesome video, definitely learned a lot here, and Johnathan knows his stuff. He’s also right about not one speaker fits all, and it’s all about one’s preference and taste in speakers. It’s good to know what line array speakers can do in a home theater setting.
Thanks Rock
Very cool setup Jonathan. I first heard about JBL line array speakers recently. Awesome video Youthman and thanks for your candor Jonathan.
Excellent and well thought out room. Love the speakers. Calibration is key but subs take time and patience to get it right. It took me forever tweaking my subs and even then you go back to it months later to find room to perfect it.
this is something i enjoy , real experience and real opinions . i mostly do car audio but also experiment with home , my shop has a very interesting setup which i can use for either a stereo image with 1 setup or turn on a surround setup . i actually love my car audio amps being fed signal from my receiver which is way different than any other setups i see
Man I love all of your videos and so educational. Really appreciate all the hosts that are giving a tour of their awesome home theater systems. I am learning a whole lot, so please keep giving them tours, Youthman!
And thanks for all your shows!
Thank you kindly Rafael. Glad you’re enjoying the videos
This one of your best reviews I he has. So much to share I appreciate his views, thoughts and openness so much. You should interview him again lol. Love it
Great video. Appreciate the sharing of the time making this and most importantly the honest and humbleness approach displayed by both you gentlemen. Makes watching the video even more enjoyable and engaging to watch.
Thank you for the kind words Kenneth. I’m certainly glad to hear you enjoyed the video.
I learned so much from this video! Mad respect to Jonathan to his work and extreme effort to detail in his Theater!
Great format of content. Keep the balance of showing the physical hardware of the gear, and simultaneously having the explanations in the background, plus the education that comes with it all.
My favorite tour so far...Thank you Youthman!
Glad you found the video helpful
What the name of those Surroundsound speakers in blue
Learning so much from this whole series. You're bringing the forums to youtube. Thanks Michael.
Thank you! Great to hear the videos are helpful
I absolutely loved this theater tour. Have never been as interested in a theater until I saw this! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the video
Best video yet!!
It was an absolute pleasure to learn from Jonathan, he explained everything so we'll that even a simpleton like me could understand. I am definitely going to do more research in line array speakers, something I would never have considered for home theater.
The line array demo was jaw dropping as the sound never changed whether you were 2' away or 10' away and walking the room.
This KC theater group sure has me jealous over the comradery and helping each other out and experiencing so may different experiences to enjoy home theater.
You out did your self again Michael, fantastic format!!
Thank you kindly Shane. Glad you found the video helpful
Shane, that's a very nice thing to say. Thank you! We have a fantastic HT group in Kansas City, and the friendships we've developed over the last 10 years or so, and the comradery, and monthly movie nights (when we've kept the schedule) have helped us each optimize our systems and keep the ball moving forward! A lot of us have become good friends, and these friendships would not likely have started without the HT hobby interest to initially bring strangers together.
@@jvonengeln That was exceptional and detailed explanation Jonathan the Line-array speakers are exceptional for wide coverage. But would really like to know about the drawback of accurate imaging. How bad is it hit. Is it still okay. You have 9 speaker surround so with each line array covering wide range. Were you still managing to get directional accuracy close to if not as accurate as point source speakers.
@@VineetReddyVenu this is a good question and we should have dove a little deeper into the topic on the video. Imagine that the best sweet spot is about 3 seats wide instead of six inches wide, but the sweet spot just isn’t as laser focused as traditional speakers more of a wall of sound and you’ll have a decent approximation. Also consider that if you are in the center MLP seat and walk forward towards the center channel (in stereo so the center channel is off) you’ll swear it is on until get to within about 1 foot away. This is unnatural and uncanny but it’s true. You’d think there is a center channel on with stereo in a much larger area than a traditional speaker. If you are a diehard stereo listening purist it’ll likely be to different and something you dislike. Consider though instead that it’ll be the best Dolby Surround upmixing type experience for music listening I’ve heard yet. I always use Dolby surround for upmixing music because if all speakers are identical an upmixer really works well. The guests were really digging the music on Dolby Surround. At one point towards the end of the night I went upstairs to visit with some guests and eat some food and the guys had access to Amazon music HD and were just playing anything they wanted at any volume they wanted in the basement. I heard all sorts of compliments in the silence between songs drifting upstairs. I would almost say superlative type comments. The guests seemed to really like music with the speakers in the Dolby Surround. I do as well. In my opinion it makes stereo listening a has been, and certainly IMO the loss of stereo focus is now than made up for in Dolby Surround envelopment and enjoyment. Now that said. I’ve never been a stereo music purist. I’ve liked upmixing for music for at least 10 years. It’s just that much better with all matching speakers.
That's a great video. I've always wanted to know how a line array speaker would work in a home theater. Great knowledge of system and explanation.
These are great Michael. Love the experience sharing. Learning lots.
Glad you’re enjoying the video and it’s helpful
Jonathan is so cool, composed and knows his stuff very well. Thats the confidence i need in my Life
I only have the middle attribute 🤣🤣🤣
Man. Loved the video and concepts discussed. Jonathan was an amazing guest/HTR owner. Thank you for this 🙏. I need to move from NY to KC 😂
Awesome set up and HONEST talk!!! Thank you for doing this Youthman!
Glad you enjoyed the video
Love all these home theater tours. Best format ever
Hi, this was a fantastic video. I really enjoyed the info and learning about line array speakers. And the home theater was fantastic!!!
I want to thank you for this tour of KC HT systems because I have learned a lot from this tour and believe me I have looked into my small family room setup and I have new ideas to get the best results I can find.
That means a lot Michael. Glad the tour has provided inspiration for you and many others
Great video. I love his patience, practicality, and willingness to blaze his own trail. @youthman I’m enjoying these videos in this format. You actually let your guest talk.
Thank you kindly it’s been a lot of fun trying some new things for the channel. You never know what’s going to work unless you try it
Another great video. Jonathan is one smart dude. Love the format. Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you for the kind words John. Glad you’re enjoying the videos
johnathan really know what hes talking about just by lisening him talk..and the passion he has for the hobby......nice work
Probably my favorite Home Theater tour video yet! Awesome job guys!
Michael, if I may make a suggestion?... a follow-up video chat with Jonathon and Sheldon would be great, these guys have years and years of experience doing GTGs/blind tests with many of the best subwoofers and speakers in the world. And both are great in front of the camera. Their Blind subwoofer test was a real eye-opener, with most not being able to pick out their own subwoofer in the mix - or even tell the difference between sealed and ported.
I’m game. We have participated in quite a few speaker and subwoofer tests blind and otherwise that might be of interest to discuss if the audience is curious. Everything from AutoEQ AVR blind tests to amplifier testing to blind speaker and subwoofer testing.
Let’s do it. That would be a good discussion to have.
@@Youthman That's great guys, I hope this happens!!!!. The KC Blind Subwoofer GTG is amongst the best threads on AVS, I've read it from start to finish more than once. It was also one of the reasons behind me buying my 3 x Seaton SubMersive HPs
Jonathan has been a huge inspiration to me on my home theater journey. His room is incredible, honestly the best room I've experienced to date. I'm a sucker to well placed LED's as well!! Great video guys
That’s awesome. Looking forward to hanging out with you tomorrow at the projector shootout
The volume doesn't change as you move around the room! That's incredible! To me, that seems unbelievable. What a neat room 👍.
I have definitely never experienced anything like that before.
Thanks once more. When look it over and hour said oh boy 🙂. But enjoyed every minute of it. Like the different format. Short, medium, long. Depending on content, host etc. When it's flows, it's interesting. What can I say. Love it.
Really enjoying these home cinema tour's.
Glad you are enjoying the videos Robert
Very nice set up. Clean. Like what he did with same speakers everywhere. Nice!!
Loved the video! This had a lot of great info and I really like that you guys talked about amps and how little difference they make in the sound. I really enjoy this style of video.
Glad you enjoyed the video Chris
These tour videos have been excellent and very informative. Jonathan's a wealth of knowledge on here and AVS.
I'm cherry picking ideas from many of these tours for my bedroom theater. Keep them coming.
That’s why I do them. Glad they have been helpful to you
Love the maturity it’s a journey the set up is awesome!
I've been humbled quite a few times along the way. :) Blind tests have routinely showed me just how much I was wrong about.
Phenomenal conversation and system!
Another spectacular video and overview. Love the long format.
Glad you enjoyed the video
It’s definitely a educational tour I’m learning a lot and I’m enjoying it keep it coming
Glad to hear it!
awesome room john thanks for shairing.......great format .....
Jonathan is my type of dude. I'm a believer in proper tuning.
He’s ALL about calibration.
Another great video and HT. This guy has the best attitude and advice. Only you have to enjoy your gear. Hopefully some day I get to hear speakers like this. The concept of them just sounds awesome. Thanks again for the video.
I absolutely love this format Y.M.!!!!
Thanks David it seems to be very well received by most
I agree with the advice in this video, that is to go and listen to different speakers and decide what speakers you like. This video also made me look into line array speakers more. Only know them from pro audio from concert and so on. Like to hear what the sound like for myself. Love the home theatre tour so far.
Glad you enjoyed the video Dirk
Before I had the fortune to participate in almost a dozen blind speaker shootouts, I always assumed a single particular speaker could win everyone's affection in a direct A/B comparison. Like a single champion could be easily identified if the comparison was setup fairly and everyone heard the same thing at the same time. That idea has been proven wrong, or at least not as strong an idea as I figured it was at every last turn. ESPECIALLY in blind tests. Also, horn loaded speakers, compression driver loaded speakers, softdome based speakers, ribbon tweeters, coaxial, line arrays vs. narrow dispersion speakers -- they all have their own characteristic. True too that we develop an affinity to some degree with familiarity. So you may find initially at an A/B speaker demo that you most gravitate towards what you are used to hearing, and the guy sitting next to you might gravitate towards what he is used to - and those two things are unlikely the same. (whether wrong or right). This was never more true to my ears than the Salk vs. JTR video blind comparison I mentioned in the interview. I don't think there is necessarily a wrong or right speaker. There is a speaker that is right for the task - like tool for the job, and there are a lot of competent speakers to choose from in that toolbox!
@@jvonengeln yes, everyone likes a kind of speaker that sounds best to there ears. I say to friends that are looking for a setup for there home is to let there ears guide them.
I remember seeing this home cinema ages ago on AVS Forum. One high end commercial cinema in London uses the same speakers. Never been but it's said to be very immersive, a true bubble of sound.
Completely immersive experience
Jonathan, you’re so humble and smart that’s what I admire about you
There are many things I admire about Jonathan. He’s truly a first class guy and I’m grateful for his friendship.
Very nice. For sure.. I really like his speakers.
Youre living life man!!!
This would be so fun, WOW
Wow!! Ok feel abit out of place and much over my head here, as I know very little about the technical aspects that's all spoken about here, but do love music and good sound all that goes with it. Anyway lol I certainly have nothing of value to add to this conversation to help anyone other than.... What an awesome video!!!!! You two are awesome and completely enjoyed the WHOLE video!!!!! No doubt have subscribed to both of you!
Thank you both for the great content and all the time taken to produce it!! Absolutely great stuff 👍👍👍
loved every moment keep them long please. esp when dealing with someone with this much experience
Thanks. That is the plan based on the massive amount of feedback saying the same thing. 😉
Always liked this setup. Archaea (Jonathan) is a super cool guy.
8 18s, man I cant even imagine how awesome this must sound
KC had some serious speaker enthusiast!!! When people start talking super tech about speakers that's when I feel completely lost in this hobby... I don't have calibrated mic or Mini DSP, and I don't know the ins and outs of my speakers, but I can still enjoy this hobby and love my room. But props to the guys that do know all that stuff and can calibrate their audio to a level that I'll probably never achieve! So anyway, another great video Youthman! And I have to say that I enjoyed this conversation the most out of all of your room tours so far! Keep up the good work brother!
Thank you kindly. This format seems to be well received from my audience. Glad you liked it
@Terminator Juice The single most important thing in an audio enthusiasts toolbelt is a calibrated microphone. I've often said if I was starting from scratch all over again, the very first thing I would buy is a calibrated microphone, (in my case omnimic) and it's the last thing I would go without. If you want to really learn quick in this hobby, I can't recommend buying an omnimic strongly enough. It'll raise your understanding of everything mysterious to a basic foundation where it all begins to make sense quickly. You don't have to be an expert by any stretch of the imagination to utilize a microphone to learn. It helps in so many ways, --- speaker placement, subwoofer placement, seating placement, impulse response, SPL verification, compressions sweeps, distortion plots, even evaluating harmonic distortion. The omnimic makes all of this very straightforward and simple, and whatever you don't understand you can seek help on the forums to more clearly make sense of what you capture. The omnimic takes measurements in real time too - so you can see how every change affects what you are hearing immediately. Seriously. Start here if you want to deep dive into the hobby. I'm not expert, but it's so important to get the basics right, and the calibrated mic helps you get there without having prerequisite expert knowledge.
Hey Jonathan, it's DaGamePimp (Jason) from AVS, very cool HT, congrats on the JVC. Thank you to Youthman for the video tours.
Hi Jason, fun to see some AVSForum guys comment here! Thank you! Yes Youthman did a great job with the videos from the KC tour! I’ve sure enjoyed watching each of them!
Thank you Jason. Glad you’re enjoying the videos
Loved this theater
Me too
This is easily my favorite theater to go back to and look at, as i feel like tge audio setup is most like what i think is the best bang for buck theater shown.
Jonathan has a fantastic home theater. Proves you don’t have to spend a fortune to have an amazing experience
Thanks for my traffic dose Michael!! Awesome room/equipment Jonathan 👌
Glad to help
This has been one of the most eye-opening videos of yours that I have seen. The design and Technical info that he has put together is really really helpful. But the main takeaway for me, is that it allowed me to be at peace with my system. Instead of always chasing the best.
Yes! Sometimes that’s great just a kick back and enjoy your system. There will always be bigger and better systems out there and things to improve an upgrade to. But at the end of the day, if you’re system makes you grande from ear to ear, you’re in a fantastic place
Absolutely love these videos! Would love to be part of doing any ab speaker homes theater testing.
Some Greco Ups like the Kansas City guys do them at get togethers
" No Replacement For Displacement " .. Archimedes would be proud.
For sure!
Very Very nice and informative 👍
This setup is beautifully 😍 nuts , love it , men mike u should use the DTS OR DOBLY demo dise mabe next time , but I have been following this guy on avs , and super love his setup
Boy, Jonathan, you sure know your stuff.
Great chat. Very down to earth guy....
Glad you enjoyed the video
Great video. Jonathan's really knowledgeable so it's good to hear how he's set things up. His experiences match mine on integrating subs and kickers or nearfield, and also with crossover points. I also agree about amplification - as long as the amps can do the job, they're fine.
Good stuff Jonathan! Hope all is well.
Hi Brad! Good to hear from you! Last I knew you were fighting a small flood, soooo heartbreaking! How’d that fare out?
@@jvonengeln I had a sump pump failure and had to replace all my flooring and subflooring in the basement. Had to cut into my riser to remove insulation which soaked up water. Everything has been put back and I'm using the theater. Two sump pumps now and Generac whole house generator. Need to catch up with the KC crew again some day.
3 times that I see this video and I enjoy it everytime
This dude is so well researched
He is.
To answer your question, Youthman, yes I like these long form interviews. They are very interesting.
Thank you for the feedback Cameron
Don’t know that I’ll ever catch up on all your videos 😄, but just wanted to say that as a “home theater rookie” in terms of how the components work, I learn something new every tour I watch. I’m planning to start saving for my dedicated home theater soon. Looking to hopefully save about $50,000 and hire a company for install about 7 years from now. Waiting is so tough, but like you’ve said many times, try to enjoy what you currently have and embrace the journey!
Thank you for the kind words. When I was building my room, I got a large quote from a designer to build my room. I decided to do the research myself and build it over time. As a result I saved a ton of money and know every aspect of my theater.
@@Youthman Makes total sense and I’m sure your room sounds incredible! The company I met with seems very reasonable with the labor aspect of the cost. Unfortunately I have no handy skills. Most of the cost is going to be speakers, projector, receiver, seating, etc. I’m going to need a professional to help me with the intricacies of building a room. I want mine to be somewhat end game (not components but the room itself). I will not be starting with Perlisten speakers or anything like that haha. Right now I only have the Samsung 990B in my living room, so I don’t think I’ll need to spend a ton on speakers/subs to be impressed. For now, that weak system will be good enough, while I save up some money. Honestly it sounds better than some people probably think. 😄
great video!
Fantastic video!
Thank you
This was a great video! Loved it, the length was great :)
Disagree on the amp difference part, still subscribed😆👍
Haha it’s all good. We can have our differences and still get along just fine. Happy New Year!
@@Youthman Absolutely :) Thanks, you too Michael. Happy New Year!🎉
This all seems somehow familiar.... John gave me a very similar tour round KC home theaters last summer! There are some amazing setups in KC!
My old college buddy! Remembering those Infinity HPS-1000, and that 8500 Metcalf house…. All those antics including our attempted tornado chase! Good to hear from you again Andrew! Thanks for coming through and visiting earlier this year…. Good times!
For certification, Dolby specs for DCI theaters state that the speakers must be able to sustain a full range test tone at 105db for two hours continuously.
Amps must have power for 105db peak plus a 3db headroom.
Keep in mind 105dB continuous for 1 hour is likely to cause hearing damage.
Hell of a theater! Wish I could go shoot pool there one day.
I'd love to know more about how he has the MBQuarts wired up and is adjusting the delays on them (and the buttkickers).
Thanks to both gentlemen for taking such an amount of time to detail a lot of really good observations that make for such good learning.
Hi Michael. I can answer your questions as it relates to my setup. They do not take much power. I’m limiting mine to about 160 watts in total (for all four) in the NX3000 DSP. I have set my PEQ shelf by feel whole listening to a bunch of different music. I’m using a HPF at 10Hz to roll off the lowest bass to protect the driver from over excursion, and a very shallow LPF at around 30Hz to keep the feel down at the higher frequencies. This isn’t my EXACT settings but it’s ballpark so you can have a starting place.
@@jvonengeln THank you for that :).
My experience with MBQuart is only automotive and I thought as far as a price to performance outcome you have created a sensational set of subs that aren't overcomplicated.
I've saved this YT discussion because I will absolutely be revisiting it once I get to a point of redoing a dedicated HT space.
Your love of line arrays matches my own direction with what I'm after too... don't think I'll find that kind of deal though here in Australia! Might have to find where people in the US adertise this gear and then look at shipping a whole bunch.
lets get this started!!!
Let me know what you thought about the video Rodney
Nice one youthy
"Those who poo-poo on the foam..."
Best quote ever.
Great video.
Thanks Michael
Literally my favorite video, sorry I know this is a old vid. Could you use the JBL cbt70 as a horizontal center channel to sit below a tv, or is there another option. As only have a front room???
I experienced Jonathan's room with the mackie's I can imagine these sound just as nice 🙂
Thank you W00lly! I like these CBT Line Array better personally, but the EAW designed Mackie C200 were, and are, an outrageous value! I still recommend them regularly to anyone who asks me for an opinion about them.
Fun to see you guys again. I have not talked to the Omaha guys for awhile. Need to get up and visit Desertdomes new theater.
@@W00lly001 DD's theater space is going to be one for the books. He's going to be running JTR's premium line - RTJ. His new home is BEAUTIFUL!
