Topwater Stripers Tight to Shore, + Tog Fishing

- Video is from Sat 11/12/16, I drove to the shore with my kayak to hopefully get on some Stripers, with Tog being the back up plan. I was feeling pretty lazy once I got down there and figured Id snoop around the beaches before launching, when I came across a school of bait with some fish on it, grabbed my light rod and started fishing, getting a few fish to eat a smack it jr, landing one small keeper at 32" and a short. It wasn't easy, the fish were finicky, more bait than fish, and eventually the crowds grew to the point I lost interest and launched the yak to try for tog. The toggin was OK, I fished some structure tight to shore and ended up finding a bite, getting a few decent tog.
It has been a tough fall, the past few weeks have proven challenging, the bites are few and far between, tons of baitfish out there with no fish on them, I think most people out there are finding that the bite is tough, it is super frustrating going out there and giving it your all and coming up short only to hear about the bite that happened 10 miles north or south of you, it has been that kind of fall.

Thanks for posting the great video!! It brings back memories of me fishing with my father for blackfish along the rocky shores of Long Island Sound 50 years ago. I am now 62 and live in California. . Delicious fish.
So rare to see someone showing how long it takes to catch something, and the bait/lures being used. This is a very nice video.
Your awesome love watching your RUclips, stoked on you keep up the good work ...seriously 😊 love your dedication and your passion.striper fever
Just love this video of the topwater action and like your easy going commentaries......wish there was more stripers here on the West Coast but maybe someday......Thanks....BTW the SP minnow is a very popular lure here as well but I have never heard of the Smacking Jr.....gotta get me one of those critters.....
Nice! Looking forward to Yak fishing next year!
I was up on Herring Point in Delaware that day and after 2 hours I was able to get a little 18 inch striper. They're finally starting to come through, and good to see there are some big ones on the way.
Awesome! The surf looks beautiful!
The best retrieve for me this year has been a really SLOW one with surface lures.
From schoolies to 45" .
This heat wave in the northeast and the moon over the past two nights...has really picked up the bite.
Love the water clarity!
great vids always enjoy watching ur vids always learning too peace and bless.
Nice job chris your right the striper bite is extremely frustrating when you are fishing with nothing and get a report of 5 minutes up the road a blitz. O well that's why we get out right!
Good vid! Im surprised you got those fish to hit that little popper! They get a pretty good case of lockjaw when there on sand and feeding on peanut bunker like tat.great job
great vid as always but have you ever thought about doing in depth instruction videos like how to set up lures and love bait leads stuff like that
Bassraider810 I agree with you man, Chris step it up Im trying to hit up the CBBT and get some hits!
Im from Jersey. Hope to catch you and romo out one day when im in my Hobie or in the surf. Nice Videos Mangg

Great video you are a salty dude. I wish I could fish some of those killer spots you fish, keep it up .thanks money...covid19 I can't fish or surf its sucks.its real hard not be able to fish n surf
Wow. Love your videos. Please do yourself and the rest of us a favor in the future and don't talk trash about other people around you. They're just looking to have a good time too. (I'm talking about the jeans and sneakers comment, not the bunker comment.)
Awesome video! I just got into topwater striper fishing. I need to use leaders though because straight 10lb braid gets caught in the hooks and the o rings. What kind of snap swivels are you using?
Dude, nice videos ! Bravo!
awesome vids bud. I'm saving up for a kayak now lol. u ever think about doing a fishing report? I'm in south jersey and like most ppl I don't get much of a chance to go out. you seem to have a good pulse on whats going on and if you do updates on the striped bass runs you will get a lot more subscribers. just food for thought. keep up the vids
I can't wait to get out into the ocean once the school heads south a bit. My go to spot has been non stop with shorts and the occasional keeper size on the bottom at night.
congrats for your 50.000 subs :)
thanks!
When you go to your fishing spots on the beach do you just pick a spot or try to look for certain things in the ocean or waves like a crest or a outlying factor like a calm spot in the waves. Because when ever I fish from the beach usually by jetties and inlets by sea isles city and belmar I can't seem to catch muck at all. Do you have any tips
Atta boy!!! Hoping to get out this Friday for Stripers in Cape May!
Breakaway Fast Link better

nice vid! too calm & clear for the 1st 2 striper baits, imo. good job
Love the vids mate, ain't it dangerous kayaking in waders?
Makes me nervous to watch. I know of two people that drowned wearing waders in deep water

Nice video. I am new to saltwater fishing. What rod length and strength rod should I get?
geez the water is so pretty in the colder months u'd think you were somewhere else but ur in Jersey
Hey man, I'm heading up to Atlantic City this week. Any places you know of for stripper off of shore that you could let me know of? Thanks.
I love your videos, big fan! Kayaking in waders though?
I was just gonna say do you not eat Striper cuz that one was perfect eating size.
Eating striper from nj water is sketchy because they could have grown up in creeks or the deleware river which is dirty as fuck
Nice video, I've always wanted to go saltwater fishing, I really want to make a video of it for my channel
I like your videos and I don't live anywhere close to the east coast!!!!
biculo
Awesome vid main!!!
Good action on the surf.
he is back yeah
How do you pick your spot to start fishing ? What do you look for ? Nd when is it the best time to go out ?
Nice Job !!! Greetings From Greece
I just bought a Yak ( I'm in Japan btw ) and I've been watching a lot of videos about yak fishing, one thing no one really explains is what do you look for. I got a fish finder and I know structure, drop-off's, ledges, etc are usual hotspots but when your in a yak what are some things you tend to always find successful when locating fish?
+Joe L baitfish! If there are baitfish then the predators are usually in the area. Structure like ledges and holes are also good for holding fish whether theres bait around or not.
Who cought it too?
On minute 13:15 he said the white battom on the fish is a male...then he said theres SHE GOES. I GOTTA LET HER GO.😂😂💪💪👏👏👏
I LIKE YOUR VIDEOS THOEE😎
It's refreshing to see you release so many fish.
Christopher Ray
Nice Video.
Cool! Found out about a new fish today..''Tautog''..subbed!
Inshore Addicts Blackfish, very good tasting fish. Popular catch here on the east coast.
awesome vid. where in nj are you fishing?
what kind of rod and reel setup are you using when you're out on the kayak
cool fishing mayne!
great video meng! lol
Great video bro
Dude those are big blackfish!. There 1 of the best eating fish to me
is the fish finder new? for you
Brain spike the fish don't just let it suffocate in the cooler
why so they can suffocate with a hole in them spike them doesn't kill them they feel no pain from lack of air
Can you compare 3 fishing reels ?? Okuma ceymar c4000 or shimatsu zalts 4000 or ryobi tresor 4000 ??? ( compare for them characteristics )
I have been wrestling with green crabs for weeks now and am glad I saw your technique. Could you tell me what size hook and the weight of the jig? Is it a #2 hook with like 1 oz weight?
it is a 5/0 hook and 1.5oz weight, magictail tog jigs
Shit, I just bought some much lighter ones yesterday, but I guess that is what I get for buying something on the fly at Dick's.
Thanks.

The people who snag baitfish are usually the reason behind really slow fishing when conditions are perfect. They catch 5 times as many fish then us using artificial baits and gut hook most of them which pretty much kills off the fish that regularly feed on that stretch.
WestCoastFishing we are not on the West coast way more fish here and if fish correctly catch and release fish are good to go twenty pounders are average montauk waters great south bays longisland. sound sheapshead bay all good

Love Topwater
mile marker 13 thru 17 u cross lattimore shoals that is where your bull reds hang out. anchor chum fish lotta rays tho as u said
Im fishing in Long island sound. Will let u know how i do on outgoing tide. Btw ur right lots of bait makes fishing hard. Too much food
that's awesome. I wish I had the opportunity to fish like this one day.
Right there main.. niceeeeee
Hey sea Money fishing was wondering if that was a penn clash and if it is how do u like it I was thinking about getting one
It is, I love the clash honestly. its about 200 bucks and hasn't let me down yet after abusing it in saltwater and never washing it off
do you ever go bass fishing? that would be pretty cool if you made a vid on that
I do yea but i much prefer to fish the ocean and saltwater
nice job meng.
I was wondering what the clip thing you attach to your lures is called. It looks like it makes it a lot easier
It's a Swivel used for spinning gear
Sami Benghuzzi tactical anglers clip
Sami Benghuzzi snap swivel
How come no ice in the cooler yo!? That's pretty strange.
They are still up in NYC Elais is killing them still ;)
You the man !!!!

I know that Penn Clash 4k is a little pricy, well for me anyways. Could you recommend a reel that wont break the bank? I got a 7ft gold cup rod and fish around Annapolis for rocks
Nova Day, Penn Fierce, best bang for the buck.
cool video!
congrats
every try shinny Hopkins mental when they are on peanuts?
I'm watching your video and I see how freaking far you cast and I would just like to know how you cast that far
Sweet!
Years ago,at st Pete fla..2am drunk,I hooked up on a hugs hammer head..that thing was big..didnt really land it..because I didn't want to..1978
From all the reports or party boats limiting out on stripers and gators but surf has been taking a hit, might be the crazy weather.
👍👍
That’s dope
Damn....I never caught Strippers on shore or offshore on the west coast for that matter!
I was fishing at Greece yesterday and caught a weird fish, it was brown, had horizontal stripes, very sharp teeth and a spiky fin, I have no idea what it was. Looked like a bass
hello what is the name of the fish you fished at 09.00 with a kayak?
Don't you love it when you hook up and before you get the fish on the beach there are four guys jumping in front of you throwing?
Here on the west coast the Chinese are the worst for that shit
Your father knew that if they found the watch they'd take it away.
I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass two years
If that crap happened to me, we would definitely be fighting. Jump in front of me while I’m fishing. Have to be fools
awesome
You still have your mojo inshore? How does the custom rod compare?
the custom rod is a lot lighter in weight and action, the mojo inshore is pretty bulky and akward in comparison, for throwing/dropping more than 2oz Id use the mojo but anything lighter id use the custom as its much more comfortable to fish
you cook tog in the oven slow ...butter and garlic
good shit.I think it might be something like sheepshead
do you buy green crabs or do you find them?
I buy them usually but if im feeling motivated I catch them myself, years ago I would never buy them, always catch them, but I have grown lazier haha
Are you using a leader? if so, what lb test and what material?
simedogz I don't think he is because you can't catch a striped bass with a metal leader because they get scared of the metal and won't bite
+simedogz yea im using a 50lb mono leader. I go back and forth between 20, 30 and 50lb leader
what type of depth finder/fish finder do you use on the kayak
lowrance elite 5
is there a specific way yo setup up a fish finder on a kayak
Why you gotta hate on the guy in jeans bro? Buy him some waders. You’re so elite. Send me a pair too. Besides that love the video. You can actually see the fish hit the surface better than most out there.
me gustan lo vídeo de pesca
good good :o
show us how you cook tog!
I try to make cooking vids often but at the end of the day I always say f*ck it... I gotta get some cooking vids up
only take meat from above ribs and tail...chunk it andi batter...delicious
How do you hook the crab?
Nice
what is that I see you using to connect your lures
sandralopez that is a tactical anglers clip
Sea-Money Fishing where can I get them
Great question from the beautiful lady ... I recommend T.A. swivels (tactical angler). They look like a paper clip and work great. Also I strongly recommend removing split rings from lures.
What model of Lowrance is that?
thats a big fish
