Can you guys start putting the name of the whiskeys in the description? It’ll make it way easier to reference when I’m shopping
Turn on the CC function and the words will magically appear!
Agreed.
They’re too wasted to do that
Old Carter is one that I bought and was told I was crazy for spending $186 on. Then I shared it. Now the people that tried it are all out seeking bottles.
Saw Dan's pour and immediately thought its time for an intervention. :D
I listened to your advice and purchased a Sam Houston 14 for $99. I tried it and the next day I picked up another bottle. Absolutely outstanding. It can stand up to any Scotch for the same price.
Heck of a price on that to boot!
" That was a nice gentle tip touch." -Spiderdan 2020
Exactly the video I was waiting for... You guys cannot miss!
ok so this is the 2nd video from your channel i have watched, love the content and you guys are amazing. down to earth, not some over snobby reviewers, keeping things fun, entertaining, love all the bottle flips! thanks for keeping your channel real and just two guys talking good whiskey/bourbons! keep it going
Thanks!
Just walked into my local
Liquor store in Wilson, NC, where the ever elusive Boofalo Tracé is rare and saw the Sam Houston 14 for $120. I grabbed it so fast I nearly knocked down the display. Wouldn’t have had the confidence to spend the money on it if not for you guys. I plan on this being a special drinker for me and the boys as my wedding is coming up soon. Cheers.
I can only hope you love it as much as we do!
I bought a Sam Houston 14 about 3 weeks ago and put it away. I have been looking for a solid review before I decided to open it. I just saw another bottle yesterday and almost bought it just in case it was really good. I'm on my way home as I'm watching this... I just pased my exit, did a 180 and I'm going 40 miles the other direction to get that other bottle!
Update... Got it!!!
Good for you 👍 I bought a bottle of Sam Houston 14 (MO1, 232 of 462) as a retirement gift for myself. I will be popping the cork and sharing with family and friends next year, October 2021!
@@Miguel-cu4zc Congratulations on the retirement my friend!
Update 2... I opened the bottle the night I got it. I was kind of bummed because I really didn't like it. Just tasted like whiskey nothing special maybe even a little bitter. Over the course of the week that followed every day I opened at the bottle for a few minutes. I went back in for another dip last night. OMG! This is exactly what I was hoping it would be. It is fantastic. This complex and a little different from most of my other Bourbons. I think I'm going for a 3rd bottle!
Well glad it opened up a little bit for you to really enjoy it!
Fantastic video keep up the great content 👍🏻
I managed to get a Sam Houston 14 for $115, went home and opened it, was blown away by how good it was. Was lucky enough to get 2 bunker bottles of it before everyone else found out about it cuz now its all been bought up. I also think it's neat how they did a special 3-barrel blend for every state rather than just doing one giant batch and everywhere getting the same shit.
I didn't know it was a per state thing, very interesting
@@BourbonJunkies Which state/batch is your bottle? I've got a IL01 which is fantastic and holding another IL03.
Well now we have a KY, MI, IN, and another batch from I can't remember where
Scored 2 bottles of Sam Houston 14 a couple days ago for $120 a pop! Incredible. Would never have known about it if I didn't watch this video. Thanks!
Another great video guys. Y'all don't disappoint :)
Love how dan asks Sean what he is drinking after Sean told him
Crazy. The last time I drank that Woodford reserve was at a wedding in 2016. I was searching reviews on it yesterday...now this video pops up. That’s it, I’m buying a bottle
I was playing this video at .25x speed when you did the editing trick with the old carter and same Houston bottles and it made you guys sound and look like you were beyond hammered lol! I couldn’t stop laughing xD
I'd buy Old Carter if it was readily available where I live. I purchased the American Whiskey last year and it has become my FAVORITE. At 139.2 proof, it drinks like a 100 proof and is flat out AMAZING. Can't wait to try one of their Bourbon.
Thanks guys! I was on the fence about the Sam Houston 14, couldn't find out much about if it was a good value until I saw y'all approved! Picked one up for 130 and traded my buddy a baseball card for an Old Fitz 15. Was a good day! Keep up the schwifty work and continue to guide me in the right purchasing direction. You have not led me astray once!
That Sam Houston is a secret hitter
Picked up the Sam Houston 14 yesterday for $105. Will be cracking it open for my 40th birthday at the end of this month. I can’t wait to be as old as Dan!
Actually laughed reading this, happy birthday and congrats on the best $105 bottle ever.
@@BourbonJunkies got one last month for $109
Lol! That opening pour.
Ya should'a come back to him passed out on the floor...
That's his wife's problem not mine
Was curious about the Sam Houston. If I see one, looks like I'm gonna have to snag it
Watching this video in 11/2023 I found two bottles of Sam Houston 14 for 70.00 each! What a nice pour!
So close to pulling off The Russo.... Just needed another .5 oz 😂
For the Sam Houston, Western Spirits sourced it over a decade ago and has been caring for/aging it ever since. Bardstown Bourbon Company only had a hand in sampling/tasting barrels for the 12yo bourbon. The 12yo bourbon was from Western Spirits and then Bardstown helped by 'curating' those into each states release for the Sam 12yo. Bardstown Bourbon Company did not help with the 14yo releases.
I would have no problem buying any of these if they were available in Ontario. Have KO 1 and 2 and they were not easy to get. Those Old Carters look to be closer to $300 and up though. They would not last 10 seconds in Ontario at retail or even 50% more.
The Whiskey Vault is in Dry Week mode so.... in order to get my fill of Whiskey Jack Assery I’ll be watching a lot of your videos for the next week.
Another reason Old Carter might sit on shelves is because it's very similar to Old Charter😂I actually saw a bottle about a year ago at a glance and literally thought "why in the world is a bottle of Old Charter $200?" Then moved on and never got it...I still regret it to this day
Y’all need to checkout Rockwell here in Grand Rapids if you haven’t! Solid prices 2oz pour of 1792 full proof $10.25! Great place I like to go to for tasting since no one around has anything in inventory on west side
"Expensive whiskey actually worth it" AKA anything 10-14 year MGP
Ahhh yes
That's what I call a "4 finger senator pour".
Mind sharing the barrel number of that Old Carter? I have barrel #43 and #20 available at a local retailer and thinking about acquiring one.
My justification is about 16 pours per bottle = only $10 - $15 per pour. You easy spend that on "regular bourbon" at a restaurant. You can't get that many "Dan pours" though.
True. However, I definitely don't have anywhere near 16 pours of $10-15/pour bourbon at a restaurant throughout a year.
This is exactly how I justify expensive bottles 😂
Try the Boss Hog at a Casino and it's $125 a pour.
2:30 "No bottle of whiskey is worth more than $50... Just don't.. JUST DON'T. 😅😂🤣 Hilarious
A year ago or so, I bought a bottle of JD Sinatra Select and have no regrets. Looking forward to getting another one around the end of the year.
Right now, I'm setting $$ aside to get a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet $220 in AZ).
Guys, A+++ for the recommendation on Sam Houston 14. It was sitting on the shelf and I got a discount for buying 2 bottles at $95 per. Huge risk for me, but you all pulled through. It is great to find a bottle people aren't chasing.
Looking for a 14 in my area but can only get the 12...haven't pulled the trigger cause I'm wanting the 14.
I've been trying to find one for like two weeks now. Your lucky enjoy cheers🥃
Great video. I’ve got the WF Barrel proof from last year... twice as much as Stagg Jr 12, and not even close.
the 2020 123.6 proof bottle is the best one they've ever done
Recently got a nasty cut from broken glass, all this bottle tossing gives me anxiety lmao
love the background music!
Expected to see the 2020 Woodford batch proof based on the review a few weeks ago, it made an appearance just not where I thought it would 😂
But the problem as a whole is the line is hit or miss. The 2020 is well worth it, but that's the only one of the batch proofs I thought was worthy of the tag
My buddy got Sam Houston 14 in Chicago for 120. It was Amazing!
We were very surprised by it
Another good one👍
I got the knob Creek limited edition 15 year. It was $110 and it's off the charts
You all have the best neon light (cool start up effect)!
When he said something about a "whiskey dog" I thought it was a metaphor...... Then he bent down for an abnormal amount of time......... So I thought "okay maybe he has, like a small dog"...picks up a German Shepherd 😂
Nox is the resident whiskey dog of the hut. Hims a good dog
Boys, thanks for bringing up Kentucky Owl Rye. Been contemplating buying a bottle for a little while now. Keep up the good work. #nowsubscribed
Thanks!
Great video! Your pour at the beginning was very aggressive lol
Awesome vid. You need to blind these then throw in a good cheap one in the mix.
from the website Artfully blended to enjoy with a fine cigar. A combination of award-winning Joseph Magnus Bourbon and 11 and 18-year-old whiskeys to assume bold, rich aromas of tobacco, spice, leather, vanilla, blanched almonds, and toffee. The Armagnac cask finish lends fruity notes of fig, prune, and dried apricot.
Saw that Sam Houston for $150 today. Really wish the wife wasn't with me. She was not convinced of the value.
Just went out and scored this for $115 and hope it lives up to the hype.
That is one hell of a good boy.
And these kind of videos are pretty much moot for us Europeans, since pricing on bourbon is not logical compared to prices in the US.
But I still enjoy your shenanigans, cheers.
I do like your thumbnail pic, and yea sorry shipping makes things a little muddy on prices.
I was finally able to pick up a Joseph Magnus cigar blend $200 in Washington and it is amazing if you see it I recommend getting it
Moss with the Magnus, great catch. Mmm a little cigar mmmmblend
Love the shirt Sean!!
Prototype right now, gotta test the goods ya know
4:43 - 4:45 Spider Man - Spider 🕷️ Dan. TFF 😅😂🤣. Poor Sean...
I have an extra old carter, just saying.. I regret buying 2, I can't afford 1 much less 2.. best whiskey I've ever tasted though hands down
I think we've all been there
Kentucky owl is legit my fav rye, I honestly like it more than the handy
Great video! Pretty sure it was my idea :)
That needs to be a video. Bottles that cost a lot that are not worth the price.
These guys don't go into the flavor profile much. What makes a whisky worth the price is that it nails everything you love in a whisky and is drinkable as hell neat. I'm a sucker for the classic Kentucky profile of caramel-vanilla-oak. When I get that in a perfectly balanced smooth flavorful whisky, I'm happy to pay $200 for it and treat it as special.
What you'll find is that every once in awhile you'll find a $50 bottle that tastes as good as your $200 bottle... and then you are in business, my friend. Buy 3 bottles of the $50 good stuff and drink it whenever you feel like it... and never feel guilty for a moment.
Love the idea of using plain bottles for these. They let the whiskey speak for itself.
Those shirts are FIRE!!!!
Hey Dan,
Spider stands for Anthem .
Great list fellas .
We have a local place called mclaughlins distillery in pittsburgh. They have a bottle called the devils juice that i think you guys would enjoy. Think liquid campfire, might compare to your cigar blend from this vid
Great Video! Also can anyone tell me where i can find an Old Carter? i am in NC
Honestly no idea
I thought I was up on the high end whiskey but I never heard of any of those... I will try to snag all or one. I just missed out on Forester Birthday (thanks bevmo computer) Everyone drinks whiskey in California now😫
You guys should watch this back with the Close Captioning on. It is pretty funny.
I really want to know what y’all think of the garrison brothers cowboy bourbon, just bought some and I love it. But I’m a whisky amateur
We like the cowboy bourbon
Can you post the whiskeys you discuss in your descriptions please?
The day after I watched this video I found and bought the last bottle of Sam Houston 14 (MO1, 232 of 462) from my local liquor store, as a retirement gift for myself. I will be popping the cork and sharing with family and friends next year, October 2021!
You're showing Sam Houston 14 from Summer 2020. Was it barreled in 4/06? cause I just bought a Sam Houston 15 barreled in 4/06 and hoping it lives up to your review. Found it in 2 stores in Terre Haute, IN got it at retail. between you two and Jason at mash n drum, my budget is suffering
Here in great state of North Carolina we have SOOOOO many Bourbon and Rye Whiskey lovers bottle under $500 vanish within minutes of arriving at stores. Those bottles would never even have time to sit of the shelf. LMAO!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work guys. What do you 2 do for a living? What are your normal day jobs?
Dan is a server engineer (made up title) and I'm an analytical chemist.
Full review on Sam Houston 14 coming? Got a SC bottle, 1 out 120 total. Also got KO batch 9 for $199, worth it?
Hella worth it at 199, and probably not just because there is some variation between the state bottlings
More of these vids of some more of the expensive stuff. You guys feel like the boss hog editions are worth the crazy money 500-800? Almost did it the other day but would love to hear your opinion
Can save you 500 and say no right now.
Whistle Pig's lower priced whiskey at $45 is however....100% Rye.
In regards to the Sam Houston, 14. The PA state owned stores have this for $119. And I have seen it in MD privately owned stores for $125-130
Have what?
I'd pay $119 all day for that bottle
@@blove932 The Sam Houston 14 year old...
The website says coming soon, but I haven't seen it yet. I will definitely keep my eyes peeled.
Just picked it up today for $113+tax in MD.
I saw that pour and shot right to the comments
These guys really like whiskey from Finland!
Can't find Old Carter any more. Haven't even seen it at any bourbon museum, er, independent liquor store.
Damn, that pour though lmao
0:26 - Now That's A Freakin Pour !
Ever try a Balvinie Portwood 21 yr? Not bourbon, but very nice.
I've had the 17 double wood and love the heck out of that.
just saw blanton's for $165. definitely should have been included in this video!... it winning the mashbill 2 lineup is still one of my favorite moments from this channel. still looking out for that cigar blend though, its the only bottle I've universally heard lives up to the price (aside from BTAC at msrp, which, c'mon). haven't heard a bad thing about it
I don't think I can ever pull the trigger on a $100+ bottle of Blanton's
Blantons is like a 55$ bottle
Found my first Cigar Blend last week for retail at $175. Had to pop it and not only did it live up to the hype, it blew away my expectations! Definite Top 3 bottle all time for me, superb 👌
Oh shit, I got the Batch 20!
Can you please add the list of whiskeys to the description?
Can I ask what part of Michigan you guys are from? Allegan county here. Love the channel BTW.
We're by Midland
I’m sure that’s not the first time you complimented him for a gentle tip touch.
For sure is not
So, on the Sam Houston, the TN or KY batches are the way to go?
The KY02 has been the best one we've had so far
Good video - can you put the names of the bourbon on the description? Thanks.
That pour absolutely triggered me 😂
Damn, you guys keep costing me alot of money! 😁 Great video guys.
We didn't say anything about dusty turkey!
😉
The only Kentucky Owl I've found in my area is Kentucky Owl “Confiscated” is that in the same ball park?
No, unless you can get it for 80.
I’m surprised Four Gate wasn’t on this list.
We put four gate against the KO rye, still on that KO train.
I've been trying to get a bottle of the Jos Magnus Cigar Blend for years and can never find one when they are reasonable. I've found bottles of Batch 12, 14 and 15 for like $500+ and that's just too much :(
Yea it's good, not $500 good though
Just passed on a Sam Houston 14 for 150. Hmmm... may have made a mistake.
Where abouts in Mi are you guys? What would be your goto store to buy blind store picks from?
We're around Midland, we make it to oppermanns cork and ale quite often
@@BourbonJunkies ah I'm over in Westland and Ann arbor (live, work/raised). A&L wine castle usually has solid store picks
What is best group to join for secondary markets? Any local? I’m located in Grand Rapids
we normally look through this site closely named to smace smook.
40th birthday coming up in October. Looking for a recommendation on something special to buy in the $100-$150 range. Suggestions? Or should I save some cash and just get the 1920
gotta go big for turning the same age as Dan, I'd be happy with anything on this list.
Bourbon Junkies leaning towards Kentucky owl. I’m a rye fan and my liquor store has it for 169.99
KY owl rye batch #1 winner so far. I only have 1 bottle left :-(
Batch 4 will be here soon enough!
Can we get a Spider Dan shirt?
Kentucky Owl Rye #3 is $210 in PHX
Old Carter label looks like barista syrup bottles, don’t love em. Love your vids guys!
What do you guys think of the Rittenhouse Rye? I tried it and honestly, hated it. Im thinking I possibly just don't like rye's but am open to trying better one's. Suggestions welcomed!
Also, thanks so much for your videos! You guys are super relatable to my weird sense of humor. Keep it up!
What's your take on Garrison Bro's bourbon? They're pretty pricey too.
We love their limited expensive stuff, and have then only ever had store picks. I think they're one of our favorite Texas whiskeys.
