Please read this comment before posting a negative comment. I have written this as a response to recurring negative statements. 1. Having this many closed bottles is a waste: There is a difference between drinking and collecting. Whiskey drinker's often drink whiskey because they like the effects of the alcohol and possibly the flavor. Nothing wrong with that, but if that is all you think of whiskey you are going to have a hard time distinguishing between a bottle's utility as a drinkable spirit and its value as a historical documentation of a time and place. There are different levels of spirits. Some spirits I too precious to just be opened and drank casually. Since spirits do not go bad in the bottle over time, collectors provide a valuable service for future generations to be able to experience a piece of spirits' history that would have been lost to time if every bottle was opened and drank on release. If you watch the episode you see that Dewayne does open these bottles, and there is only one whiskey in his entire collection he has never tried. He is saving it for his birthday next year, but he does have a plan to open it. So don't look at Dewayne or anyone like him as someone who only enjoys owning and doesn't enjoy drinking. He drinks these whiskeys. It is true that he has too many bottles for anyone to expect he will drink them all before he leaves this earth, but that is both a valuable benefit to his family (because of the money they will bring when they are sold) and the collectors who end up buying them (because of the rare opportunity to try something from the far past). 2. Comments about Dewayne losing the entire collection in an earthquake/theft/fire/etc.: I do not know why so many people see this man's life's work and immediately think of how he could lose it all, but if you read the comments it is a very common thought. DEWAYNE DOES NOT LIVE WHERE THERE ARE LARGE EARTHQUAKES. There have been three earthquakes the bunker has withstood without loosing a drop and the collection has a separate earthquake insurance policy. The building has access controls, and alarm, the bunker entrance is hidden, the bunker locks down if the alarm goes off (locking in any would-be thieves), is strategically located near a responding police station, and the police are aware of the theft risks. The bunker was also built to be fire and tornado resistant and has a fire suppression system, and the collection is insured. 3. Alcohol is a scourge to society and no one should drink it: It is true that alcohol can be dangerous and that some people should avoid it. If you chose to abstain from drinking I support you. That said, my channel is hardly the place to preach the evils of alcohol. I educate people about all the positive benefits of responsibly enjoying whiskey. I could write an entire book about how alcohol helped form the modern world, so you are not going to convince me or my average viewer that alcohol is evil. Also, remember that having the right to tell others what to do with their bodies would make those individuals subservient to you and therefore not free willed individuals. It would also make you a narcissist, and no one wants to be a narcissist. Please understand this video was create to entertain, inspire, and educate, so tried to view in with that spirit in mind. Cheers!
>I do not know why so many people see this man's life's work and immediately think of how he could lose it all, That's youtube commenters being youtube commenters. I've wondered similarly on many other videos. Just one of those weird things people do that gives you a headache to try and understand. I don't think there is any answer in the end.
Wait, did you say the alarm trip locks burglars inside the whiskey vault? If I ever find out I have a terminal disease I hope everyone can appreciate the fact that I will be heading to this vault the same day I receive the unfortunate news. I’m not going to spend my final days clinging to life and wasting my entire life’s savings that can be passed on to my surviving family on pain pills and medicines that will ultimately do nothing. I’m getting locked inside this bunker and dying with dignity in my heart, and bourbon on my lips. I just ask Mr. Poor to keep a Cuban in the vault so I can have a stogie as well. I’ll leave an envelope of cash to pay for whatever I drink, but this is how I go out lol.
The fact that he has that much Balvenie Tonne (including the 1 of 1) is beyond epic. Ive owned 1 Tonne and tasted 3, they are super hard to get and amazing 1 offs made each year
Wow, Dewayne is SUCH a cool guy, would love to share a few drams with him and just have him tell stories. That "priceless" Balvenie is such a cool and significant bottle, wow. The highlight to me was that Laphroaig kit at the end... what a cool thing; his generosity was rewarded with something so special. I do wish we could have seen more of his Scotch collection, because I see some real gems at a glance. Thanks for making this video!
He has so many special bottles. I wish I could have highlighted more, but the episode was already longer than I wanted it to be. I also needed to highlight both scotch and bourbon...since I am bourbon real talk :-)
What a fantastic interview. Dewayne seems to be the most down to earth man I have seen. Love the collection! What great stories! Wish I started appreciating bourbons and whiskeys at an earlier age!
I really enjoyed this and I don’t even drink but on my travels I have always got my dad a nice whiskey from airports and such. It’s super interesting to see his collection may be worth a lot more now.
I spoke with him this week. We are planning a follow up and filming in the other bunker. I will see what the collection's value is up to when I do that recording.
This was one of the most informative whiskey videos ever, I was zoning out on this collection i have a lot of great bourbon but this is beyond incredible. Has he gotten hold of the Buffalo Trace 40 year (The Last Drop).
I told him before we were filming I didn't want to handle any bottles worth more than 10K, I didn't need to accidentally break something so valuable that it would change my financial future. I did end up handling some of the rare bottles, but I tried to make him do that.
There have been a few small earthquakes in OK and TX in the last 10 years, but the fault line is one that is unlikely to produce anything big enough to cause a problem.
@@BourbonRealTalk any suggestions on Bourbon or Scotch? I bought a Glenlivet 21 the other day and I am really enjoying it and also my normal sipper is Michters US1 Small batch.
@@98durangopack I do not know much about scotch. If you check out last weeks episode we tastes 5 different scotches, talk about their profile, etc. I like them all. Two of them I LOVED! This weeks episode (will drop on Friday) is a list of shelf available bourbons for under $60. Between those two episodes that should be enough to get you started. A couple that you may want to start off with would be Four Roses Small Batch or Evan Williams Single Barrel. 4R is very fruity and floral and EW SiB has more barrel influence in the flavor. Both are excellent bourbons for a good price, and easy to find.
I’ve seen some impressive whisky collections but this one I can relate to as I’ve tried or owned several of the bottles that I can see on the shelf. Beautiful. 😎
I wonder if he ever gets drunk? Probably?? I went to a wine tasting where there was a bunch of rich people. They just tasted them; in very small amounts. At the end of the night they poured them down the drain. I couldn’t believe it. Could’ve at least handed them to the poor.
This is my second time watching this video in its entirety, I love watching this. Whiskey has helped me meet some awesome people, and has become a super fun hobby for me.

A dollar is worth a dollar, only if you and I agree it's worth a dollar. It's quite amazing how much the market has skyrocketed in this realm of product.
Hirsch! I bought the earlier 1974 20 year old red wax top version 22 years ago for $85 dollars. There were a total of nine bottles on the shelf. I wish I would have purchased all of them back then! Now they are worth nearly $6,000 dollars a bottle
Extremely well done. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with Bourbon geeks like me. It always comes back to friendships, Sharing, and making memories. Thank you!!!
I forward that motion and expand the idea to include that when we uncork a "Significant or Rare to Us" bottle of whiskey amongst friends we honor it with the title of a "Dewayne Pour", of course one must never confuse the ceremony with a dram of Kentucky Deluxe which bears a close resemblance in the title of "Drain Pour".
@@BourbonRealTalk i really did, i have just over 90 bottles and my most expensive are things like a 1980s Glenfarclas 105 and a 1980s Glenfarclas 15, a few distillery exclusives here and there at around £250 but what this guy has achieved is amazing! and love that he is the type of guy who loves for his friends to also experience them

Cheers!
>I do not know why so many people see this man's life's work and immediately think of how he could lose it all,
That's youtube commenters being youtube commenters. I've wondered similarly on many other videos. Just one of those weird things people do that gives you a headache to try and understand. I don't think there is any answer in the end.
@@crazy808ish My brain doesn't work like that so I just don't understand, but I appreciate the insight.
Which whisky are you guys enjoying in the video?
@@ministerJason1 Knob Creek 15 year. It had just come out so it was a treat to get to try it.
“I’m not hoarding” I got a good laugh out of that.
I think someone at Dewayne's level thinks of hoarding and investing as different thing.
COLLECTING AHEM
The fact that he has that much Balvenie Tonne (including the 1 of 1) is beyond epic. Ive owned 1 Tonne and tasted 3, they are super hard to get and amazing 1 offs made each year
Can't wait until his 60th so I can go try it!
I also needed to highlight both scotch and bourbon...since I am bourbon real talk :-)
thank you so much for making this ! and thank you to dewayne ! Enjoyed every minute of this video
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a fantastic interview. Dewayne seems to be the most down to earth man I have seen. Love the collection! What great stories! Wish I started appreciating bourbons and whiskeys at an earlier age!
It is never too late. It is easy to get deeply involved in the community in a short time.
I really enjoyed watching this. Dewayne has had some amazing experiences in his lifetime to go along with an amazing collection.
I could do 20 episodes with him and never hear the same story twice!
Happy and Blessed 60th Birthday sir. One of the best Whiskey/Whisky videos ever. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
What a great guy ,I could listen to him for hours so interesting and knowledgeable , Hi from the UK.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for the support!
This was one of the most informative whiskey videos ever, I was zoning out on this collection i have a lot of great bourbon but this is beyond incredible. Has he gotten hold of the Buffalo Trace 40 year (The Last Drop).
He has every Michter's 20...including the release that had only 11 bottles. I held it!
Both gracious hosts.
Only hearing a bit of Mr. Poor's stories is a treat.
Hopefully a part 3
It is coming!
The way he stands is like a whiskey glass is always in hand
Not sure if you mean me or Dewayne, but in either case it is true. Cheers.
Minus the scotch, I have Absolute Envy over your collection! Cheers brother
It is mostly scotch, but he has some amazing bottles of bourbon too.
Great video, thank you! I was surprised you were grabbing various things from his collection... he must of granted permission prior.
I told him before we were filming I didn't want to handle any bottles worth more than 10K, I didn't need to accidentally break something so valuable that it would change my financial future. I did end up handling some of the rare bottles, but I tried to make him do that.
What a neat guy. I love his humble passion for whisky. Life goals!
He is pretty awesome!
Very interesting video and wish I could be there to sample. My collection is worth a measly $10,000 on a good day. What an amzing collection.
A 10K collection is respectable. That is a lot of good whiskey!
If an earthquake ever hits this vault, I think I'd have a heart attack. Truly beautiful, and such an awesome man to hear speak. Loved every minute.
There have been a few small earthquakes in OK and TX in the last 10 years, but the fault line is one that is unlikely to produce anything big enough to cause a problem.
@@BourbonRealTalk Ah ok, got it. Thanks for the reply and the great videos. Cheers!
As a new whiskey fan. I am learning so much! Fantastic video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow
Such an array of whisky collections
A feast in the eye !
It is overwhelming standing in the vault. Everywhere you look there is something that catches your eye.
I’ve seen some impressive whisky collections but this one I can relate to as I’ve tried or owned several of the bottles that I can see on the shelf. Beautiful. 😎
It is pretty amazing, plus he is a great guy and very generous which makes it even better.
What an amazing down to earth guy. If he’s ever in northern Virginia I’ll buy him a drink and you sir keep these awesome videos coming!
I will try my best! Have you joined the free member community? facebook.com/groups/bourbonrealtalkcommunity/
What an amazing collection!
Thank you for checking out the episode
I really enjoyed this tour and Dewayne's great stories. Awesome 👍
Thanks for listening
I collect memories through empty bottles.
I love that sentiment
I wonder if he ever gets drunk? Probably?? I went to a wine tasting where there was a bunch of rich people. They just tasted them; in very small amounts. At the end of the night they poured them down the drain. I couldn’t believe it. Could’ve at least handed them to the poor.
What a Great Walk through! Awesome stories
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching.
This guy is literally my hero. Awesome video 👍🏻
Same! Cheers!
I love that it is a whisky collection video where thry talk more about tge whisky itself than the price. Real whiskey people.
Thanks
This is so dope seeing such an amazing collection cheers!
Much appreciated!
This is my second time watching this video in its entirety, I love watching this. Whiskey has helped me meet some awesome people, and has become a super fun hobby for me.
Warms my heart! Same for me!
New to your channel. This was a great quality video. I love those conversations and experiences you have when you’re enjoying a dram with friends or others who are as passionate about the spirit as we are!
So glad you enjoyed it.
He's got that "whiskey" connoisseur physiology for sure.
😂
I own a liquor store and dont have a million in inventory 🤣
I am a Realtor in my real job. It is the difference between buying a rental house vs buying land for future development. Just two different strategies to make money.
I love and hate hearing these stories. So fascinating but also heart breaking.
i had a bottle of macallan 18 gran reserva in my hands and put it back on the self because it was too expensive at $200
@@danielkress9843 Don't feel bad. I gave up a Booker's Rye at retail for the same reason.
Truly an amazing collection!
Such a pleasure to get to see it in person
Extremely well done. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with Bourbon geeks like me. It always comes back to friendships, Sharing, and making memories. Thank you!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Whether it's money, stories, or personality.. Dewayne's not poor!
What a cool guy. :)
So true
Fabulous presentation. I've become very interested in bourbons this past year, which made your video ever more interesting. Thank you.
Our pleasure! What's your favorite bourbon you've found so far?
Damn that is insane, looks even better than the whisky vaults collection.
It is amazing
drooling amounts of whisky. all of these bottles are top notch and this vault will be enjoyed by many.
Great perspective! Thanks for watching!
I love watching these Whisky videos, it's never long before their cheeks start turning red.
Ha!
And I thought I had accomplished something when I finally collected all of the Blanton's bottles. This is beyond
awe inspiring.
It is his life's work.
Okay, pretty cool, but he got any BLANTONS?
He does 🤣
What a Lovely Guy.... So informative .... Thanks a Stack for sharing .... Great Stuff .... Cheers from NZ
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching.
Dewayne should legally change his last name to "Pour"...
I made the same recommendation. The irony is epic!
Just wow! knowing i will never get to taste these but listening to his love for it and generosity is amazing and sad at the same time lol
Understandable! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@BourbonRealTalk i really did, i have just over 90 bottles and my most expensive are things like a 1980s Glenfarclas 105 and a 1980s Glenfarclas 15, a few distillery exclusives here and there at around £250 but what this guy has achieved is amazing! and love that he is the type of guy who loves for his friends to also experience them
@@inthemancave5981 He is very generous. Cheers!
12:22 jokes on him, the average for that bottle now is $95,000.
Most of his bottles have gone up in value significantly since we filmed.
@@BourbonRealTalk I wasn’t sure if that was the case or the website I was viewing showed more of a value. That’s really awesome. That’s the price of a house.
I saw the last one and made the comment. Thank you for filming and showing this collection. What an amazing bunker.
Well you gave me a great idea! Started editing in photos and videos into all the videos I can. Going to do more bunker interviews too!
With a collection like that I would rather know what his day to day go to pour is. Clearly he isn't drinking his collection.
He opens one of everything, so he does drink a lot of fine whiskey. When we were together he had a Henry McKinney and a KC 15 Year. Not sure what his Scotch daily is.
I work at Buffalo Trace Distillery, in Craft Dept, Blantons, Eagle Rare, ET Lee, Rockhill Farm, Pappy Van Winkle...LOVE this video..11 years in the Bourbon industry! CHEERS!
So glad you liked it! Appreciate the work you do for all us whiskey nerds out here.
I like this guy. Not because he is a collector or has expensive bottles, but because he likes scotch as much as I do. I would say though that I do not have any connections like he does nor have I been to the distilleries... yet. I have been to Scotland a couple of times and drank some expensive scotches but I want to go to the distilleries next time I am over that way.
He is a great guy! Good luck on your next trip to Scotland.
omg if i was invited I'd never want to leave. good to see Dewayne is a fan, drinks it and enjoys it, not just collecting and storing to make a quick buck. GL
Well said!
