This small bench is perfect for many uses. This is a perfect beginner woodworking project. This DIY bench for beginners is an easy woodworking project. This is a great pocket hole made bench. The arrow or anchor accents add a nice touch to make these benches stand out. These make great small farmhouse benches. If you are looking to add farmhouse furniture to your home, these are a great option. These are easy to make with a few tools and very little material. Small bench plans are available by following along with the video. If you have questions please ask. You can build this DIY bench with just a few basic tools. I recommend a pocket hole jig like the Kreg R3 or K5 (linked below).

Iam glad God had you start out with only a few hand tools, that’s how a lot of people start out, but no one sense to shear that( at least none I have found) and thats how Iam starting out, coming off of chemo. As a lot of people say “there is peace in the saw dust for me”.
Love the Arrow Bench! Our kids' scout troop/pack has a couple events every year where they also do silent auctions as a fundraiser so I'm going to make a couple to donate for the auctions.
Made this today out of scraps in my garage. Came out great, thank you for sharing.
Awesome
How have I not seen this video yet? Went back and watched your 5 woodworking projects that sell as well as the 5 more video. I don’t remember seeing this. Your channel has come a long way. Still love watching these older videos.
Thank you
I love this bench. I made a small version along with a version of your farm side table, for my 3 yr old great nephew it worked great and he loves eating at it. Thanks for your videos. I posted a picture on Pinterest along with the bench.
Great to hear. Thank you!
Really enjoy your videos! I’m from a small town in North Carolina and know these little farm house benches would be a hit here! Really enjoy the step by step you go through to make the projects much appreciated and keep up the good work
Just made this yesterday! Thanks!
Amen....Bless you
Thank you
Great video ! I'm going to try to make this soon thank you sir !
Thank you
I did a spin-off of your bench. Used three 2x6 for the seat and a 1x8 for the rail between the legs.
Nice
Great DIY project!! Love your work . . . Keep the videos coming:) how do you secure the anchors?
Thanks! I use pocket holes
I like the idea of the arrow in the middle. Have some ideas for my own art design buyt didn't catch in the video how Matt attached the pieces to the 2x2 (tubatwo)
pocket screws
Nice bench, will you be creating a video on how to make the anchor I see in the opening picture?
Thank you. I hadn’t thought about it. But I may in the future.
A way to clamp the leg down is to use the 10 degree cut off and place it on top of leg. Makes it level again and you can clamp it to the table top.. That's what I do and seems to work
good idea
Just found your channel and now binge watching the videos. Thank you! I may have missed it, but can you explain what angle you use for the leg cross braces? Are those 10 degrees as well?
Thank you. Yes, they are all 10 degrees.
Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate your positive attitude. What angle do you cut the 12 in cross members on? Thanks.
10° same as the legs
I am building this bench right now
awesome
Simple, yet sturdy, I like it
Thank you!
Great build. I loved the arrow, but I think I like the anchor even better.
no one else asked, so I will, LOL What's the cost?
Also, how do you price your work?
Price to build the bench would be less than $25 for material. Pricing work is tricky. Starting out I just priced what I thought was reasonable and if it didn’t sell, I would assume it was too high. Now I know about what my cost will be for material. And about how long it’ll take me to build it. I just take those 2 and try to come up with a fair price that the customer and I fee comfortable with
Hey Matt, I love your channel and you are the reason I took the step into woodworking and so far it’s been a blast. I built one of these and I was wondering a easier way to screw the 10’ legs. When I try to hold it still firmly to screw the pocket hole screw, the leg twist a lot. I was thinking maybe a different drill would help like a impact drill? I use a regular 20v craftsman drill.
A right angle pocket hole clamp can help hold the legs in place while you drive the screws.
@@731Woodworks Okay, I’ll try that, thank you. Keep up the good work!
Update: Just got a right angle clamp, it works perfectly, thank you!
Hey Matt, did you do the build differently when you stained the top and painted the bottom? If not can you share how you did it?
If I stain the top, I will un attach it. Stain it / paint base and re attach
The picture that represents the video seems to have a cleat where the legs are attached and then that cleat attached the underside of the bench seat. Which method are you using now? I tend to use the cleat because it is easier than having your legs jumping all over the place on the underside of the bench seat is he trying to screw it in.
Hey Matt, do you have a materials list for this project? i could find one on the website.
Do you paint the base first or stain the bench seat first?
Thank you so much for the video! I’m gonna be building this bench soon! Working on getting what I need. How long are the legs you cut? Are they 18” before you cut the angles into them?
16 1/2" long
@@731Woodworks looking forward to showing the finished product! Your channel has given me lots of inspiration and encouragement as I get started on this journey!
Hi Matt, thank you for your video's. The table, ( bench) looks awesome. I would like to try to sell these. Can you give me a ball park selling price for these? It would be greatly appreciated. Wish you all the best for your business.
This video should help with pricing ruclips.net/video/gubAzW8BTW0/видео.html
What do you use to protect the finish?
This is very cool! What did you use to make the cut lines in the arrows?
I used my miter saw with the depth stop set to keep them the same cut depth.
@@731Woodworks Ok, I NEED to learn that! I recently got a Ryobi 10" sliding miter saw for a great price at HD! But I'm still a beginner at things.
Hi Mat. I am making this tomorrow and I had to get green treated 2x8s. They are still pretty wet and I need to know if they can still be stained or painted. Also, how can I send you a picture of some of the projects I have made with your greatly appreciated help., God bless you and yours.
If they are still wet, they'll likely bow on you. 731woodworks@gmail.com
If I wanted to use this bench outside and leave it outside in my backyard what type of wood do recommend or how would you seal it if I just used pine so it would not rot? Do you think an outdoor urethane coating would work?
cedar, cypress or redwood is good for outdoor use
Just came across your channel as a beginner getting into wood working. Is the lumber used for this project fully dried or do you purchase from a box store? I recall from one of your other videos that box store lumber usually contains water and will sometimes bend or warp. Is that a concern with a project like this? I've subscribed to your channel and really like the videos you put out.
Thank you. yes, I buy this type lumber from either a big box store or my local lumber supplier. It is just common pine. I haven't had any issues with it warping on me for these type projects
@@731Woodworks Thank you for the quick reply! Looking forward to your future videos.
@@sydneyaf1117 thank you
Hey Matt, do you do the pocket holes before you cut the 10 degree angle on the legs?
after
How do I add a pic, I build one, n would like to know more about the cross
I saw your video of how you price your items. There was a version of this bench with an anchor on the side. How did you do that version?
I'm interested too
If I can't afford a pocket jig is there another way to drill the angles or a diy drill jig?
Look at the Kreg R3. It’s $40
Hey Brother, I was whondering how you finish this bench. Do you stain the seat and paint the legs and bracing before you put together? or do you put it all together and mask off? I am trying to get started in selling similar items as my wife and I are both loosing our jobs in May 2021 due to COVid. Please add us to your Prayer List. God Bless
Yes. I stain the seat separately from the base
Did you drill the pocket holes before or after the angle cut?
after
How do I find the dimensions or cut list for your small bench with the arrow? Love it please IM me
Did you drill the pocket holes on the angled legs before or after cutting the angles? (I’m a beginner, apologies if this should be obvious!)
After
@@731Woodworks thank you
Do you stain the top before you paint the base then assemble it? Or assemble the whole thing then stain and paint?🤔
Stain the top separate from the base.
What is the angle of the cut in the middle to match the legs?
Thanks for the idea and info on this bench. Just got done building my first one. Turned out great, only thing i have is a slight wobble, with nothing on the bench. seems like my 2x8's warped or maybe twisted a little after I cut them. what the best way to fix it? if you put any weight at all on it (couple pounds maybe) it goes away.
You can try trimming one of the legs
Anyone check the angles of the side pieces?
What do you do if at the end of assembly, it rocks. Is there a more simple solution than taking it back apart?
Typically uneven legs are caused by something out of square but it’s a fairly easy fix. Sit the project on a flat surface. There will be two legs touching and two that “wobble”. Pick one of the ones that are touching and start trimming it a tiny bit at a time either with a saw or sanding until they all touch.
Gotcha, thanks so much for the help! Your videos are extremely informative and your wood working skills are top notch!
Would it be an issue to pocket hole 3 2x6’s together for the top?
none at all
Thank you. You have a great channel!
What is the angle and dimensions of the piece between the 4 legs?
What size pocket hole screws do you use?
2” will work. 2.5” is what recommended
I noticed something you use a oil base stain, then the polyurethane is a water base, heard that wasn’t a good idea ? I did the same thing turned out great! What’s your thoughts on that ??
I do it all the time. Never had any issues
731 Woodworks that’s that I am thinking also, I have heard the issue from so many woodworkers but I never had any issues.
One other question what you like semi-gloss or glossy ??
I use satin finish
Ok Matt so I am completely stumped. I cut my legs at 10 deg but how in the world did you clamp them down to screw them onto the top. 😩
I just hold them snuggly in place, screw them on
Did you paint your legs with a paint brush or did you spray paint them?
brushed these
Thank you
So in your picture it shows a 2x4 under the bench that the legs connect to, I didnt see that in this video
I changed the design. They can be built either way
I like your way. Just wanted to make sure my 40 yr old but wasn't missing something
👍🏻
How big is the anchor?
What’s the width on the top? I made one, but the legs are 22 “ wide at the floor outer edge. My top is 17 1/2 x 32
It's two 2x8's on top so approximately 15" wide
@@731Woodworks Looks like I picked up 2 x 10’s Hahahaha! Oh well I’ll make another. Thanks, your channel is awesome!
The wider one should work just as well though
Hey Lloyd Waggoner here. Lol. A 2x8 is 7.25”wide and you trim off one edge so I’m guessing around 7 1/8 so it would be maybe 14.25. Is that ok still with your measurements on the leg placement and cross braces? Thanks again for your support.
Lloyd
💪🙏🦅
Do you need a planer to accomplish this project?
Nope. You can build these without it.
@@731Woodworks okay thanks!
How much would you sell this for?
When I made it I was selling them for $65. Now that lumber prices are up, it would have to be $100 or more
How much I can sell this for?
$60 or so
@@731Woodworks thanks brother. I learn so much from your channel.
Thank you.
Wow you’ve come a long way from 6 years ago……
Those pesky drivers! Don't they know there are artists working from their garages??? At least your neighbors aren't Harley folk...
lol
