Love to watch your builds. We do benches every day at Glazer Woodworking, York PA. and here is a tip for you. When I put my fasteners on, I put a clean moving blanket on my workbench, flip the top over (front facing you), then flip the frame over on top of the tabletop (underside) front again facing you. Now you can measure, predrill and screw the fasteners without crawling underneath and working upside down. You probably knew this
but I thought I would pass it along.

I love sanding, after carving, cutting, glueing, distressing. I may be strange to some or a great many, but it's all part of the creative process for me.
We see so many guys on here with shops worth than most new cars. Nice to see some usable projects with tools that are mostly attainable for anyone. I feel guilty with the what I have in the garage that I barely make use of... Great job. Now I gotta get out there and build... And nice planer... Love my 735x!!

You've probably already thought of this. But... an idea for projects which could be an option for the customer. On end tables or bars or things that have the decorative end pieces with the "X" is to offer them an option to change the "X" to a cross. Just a thought.

My favorite wood stain is Cabot Moonlight Mahogany. I adore it because it is a one-coat application and has a glossy like finish. No need for other steps. I was surprised to see your final step because I thought Cabot stains were the same (aside from color options.) I use the Quick Solutions™ 7" Deck & Stain Pad Painter to apply the stain (only w/Cabot.) I do not wipe off the stain, per Cabot instruction on the can. In the end, it looks beautiful! Should you have free time test it out. I think you'll be surprised of the quality result of your piece, save time, save $. Many benefits.

@@731Woodworks Totally just looked at the can. Gold ultimate finish. Polished protection * for decks & outdoor furniture. Lol, I use indoor too. Never noticed it said outdoor. N E ways, the question for you. I've heard that one can't put a gloss on gloss stuff. Paints & stains. Like if it's already an outdoor glossy paint but I use interior paint for details but want to seal with a gloss. I shouldn't do that. Something about science lol. Idk. Do you have any insight into that dilemma? Oh, and the Cabot Moonlight Mahogany is a Satin. If I wanted it to glossier could I do that? Figured I'd ask you with being your profession and all & not ask the Menards staff. Just my daughter's and I build outdoor decor and different needed items inside and out.

For pine, I like to use the Zinzer bullseye B-I-N shellac based primer. Really covers over the pine knots when painting white bases like that. I already have someone asking me to make this for them- our son is remodeling his house, and made a "theater room", and wants something like this to put a kureg maker, and snacks, etc.
Nice video as always. You should use a slot cutting bit for your tabletop fastens.
If you don’t have enough clamps, you can also clamp two pieces, shoot a finish nail through the ends while clamped, and then use the clamps for another set. That’s how I usually do it... I have pipe clamp envy.

Just an observation not not picking. But I noticed a hole on the top of the table where there is a knot. You could take some epoxy and fill that before you stain it of coarse so you can sand it down. That will help keep that knot from falling out and not have a hole int the table later down the road. Great video and table God bless you and your family

For the top...I have found it easier to plane the boards rather than trimming the edges... it squares them nicely as well.

minwax prestain IS the way to go when staining SPF wood. I've always had good results with it.

I typically do one coat of primer. 3-4 coats of paint

Loved the video. Learned a couple of new things including how you use those fasteners. A couple of questions though if you don't mind. One, do you thin your primer and paint prior to spraying it, and if so what is your ratio? And two, why do you brush the clear coat instead of spraying it? you'd think that would eliminate the brush strokes and more sanding (yuck). Thanks for the cool videos. VFB

I usually do 1 coat of primer. 2 to 3 coats of paint

Can the smaller trim router use regular size router bits or do they make specific router bits just for the trim routers that are smaller or don’t do the bigger cuts like full size routers ?
It uses 1/4” collet bits. There are large diameter bits that won’t fit
Hey Matt, I love this video and am gonna try and do this to surprise my wife this weekend while she's visiting friends! Quick questions, I don't have a router or a table saw to make the slots for the table top fasteners - is there another alternative you'd recommend? Would small corner braces fastened snug but not overly tight work? Thanks for all you do!

Great build video. A good balance of work and talk about the build.
I noticed that you left the flaws in the wood when you finished it. Others have filled in the knots with epoxy on the top, and in one of the legs is a big "hole" for lack of better terms, that could have been filled with filler before painting.
I'm not criticizing your work, I am just curious as to why you left them and this being a customer's work.

I've done several projects for this particular customer and they like the more rustic look of the knots and holes (as do my wife and I). Several of the pieces we have built for ourselves, we have left the knot holes exposed. We just like the look. And the customer also likes the look. Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it.

Yes. Sometimes if they boards are not the same thickness. We try to select boards that are the same so we don’t have to.
Loving these videos! You have showed me some easier ways of doing some things that will make my projects more efficient so thank you! One thing I've noticed...when you stain your projects, do you not apply the stain and then wipe it off at some point or do you just not show that part? Is it not necessary? Thank you.
I do. I apply the stain and about 5 minutes later, take a clean rag and wipe off any excess.

Thanks for sharing this project, Matt! I love it! I want to make this my next project to try and sell. (I've only built two things so far, as I'm a rank amateur). I did some investigating and I am not seeing anyone marketing farmhouse furniture in my area. So, I'd like to try to carve a niche out for myself here, if possible. I picked up a couple great ideas from your video too, and I'm really excited about that because they'll save me money in this ridiculous lumber price pandemic. I did notice that you didn't plug the pocket holes. Do you still leave pocket holes open in projects, or does it just depend on the project? God bless you and thanks again!

I want to build this table at home, but I only have a miter saw, not a table saw. Is there any advantage to using several glued boards for the top instead of a solid pine board?
I’ve made several of your projects. Biggest issue is getting the 2x8 laminated and not warp. I live in Az where the humidity is very low. Suggestions?
I buy my lumber from a smaller more local supplier and not the big box stores when possible.

Sit the project on a flat surface. There will be two legs touching and two that “wobble”. Pick one of the ones that are touching and start trimming it a tiny bit at a time either with a saw or sanding until they all touch.
Is there a reason why you didn't use 4x4s and cut them down to 3x3 for the legs just wondering if I'm missing something is it cheaper using 2x4 or something
For the Biscuit white do you have a paint number for that? I went to a local Sherwin Williams today and their "Biscuit" color was a bit tanner than I thought your pieces look. Its probably the right one but would like to confirm.
Also want to say that your videos are awesome, I'm an electrical contractor by trade but have recently started to dabble in woodworking and out of all the videos I watch yours are the most enjoyable and least "intimidating". Really like how you keep it simple for the most part but explain the details. Keep em coming and thank you for your videos! Im in the middle of making a 7' sofa table and using this video as my reference!
