- In this Pinterest inspired DIY video I share a simple how to build a desk cheap and easy for around $100.
This farmhouse style desk was built with very little complicated woodworking techniques making this something most everyone can tackle. The need for this project came from my wife now working from home like many right now. The design of the desk was inspired from a few ideas found on Pinterest. I used Fusion 360 to 3d model the design and then started building. Nominal size lumber from any big box store is all you need for this design. The desk was made from 2x4’s, 2x8’s and 4x4’s and then finished with Minwax Polyshades. The cost for the wood was right around $100, other required items would be screws, wood glue, and your choice of finish. The overall dimension are 4' by 6' by 21" wide. The top for the desk sits 30" above the floor and gives plenty of leg room and arm for a computer chair. The painted white legs (can be whitewashed), X shaped legs, combined with the think 1.25" think darker stained top is what makes it the farmhouse style.

Wife saw the same pintrest desk the other day, but the person who posted it on the DIY website gave no plans to go with it. This video definitely saved the day, I was about to try to built one of those without any guidance and that would have been a disaster. It would have been nice to have the material list and cut list in video description but beggars cant be choosers. Thanks again!
Just what I’m looking for. The only thing I would do differently is add more depth. Especially after seeing all the stuff your wife has on it. Thank you so much. It appears to be easy to follow instructions.
I really love how you overlapped the wood pieces for the table top.
YES! I've been missing these vids! Great to see another upload!!
Glad you like them!
The most beautiful computer desk I have seen from a DIYer, congrats Sr.!
Awesome build. I've been looking to build a standing L shaped desk and I like the look of these legs. I'm going to mock out how it will look with longer legs and see which design I like best. Amazing job and thanks for the inspiration.
That is a very good looking desk!
Well done! And always a good thing to keep the wife happy 😆 That makes up half of my projects 👍🏻
Love love love this desk. Could you make a video on all tools you need for simple tasks like these?
I love this design, great job here. I'm going to somewhat copy this, except I'm going to be adding a second turn to make it a full U-shaped desk. Brilliant design.
Thanks I appreciate it. I like your idea.
Fantastic build. I think you did just fine. That stain looks so nice. I also love the shine on it. Looking at building some desks for my office soon, I will definitely be stealing some ideas here!
Thanks I appreciate it and I hope you do
Awesome build!
Good job! I was thinking of building a desk using wall brackets to support it but I like your idea.
Love this and I have the tools to make it! You have great attention to detail and explain it for those of us who like nice things but are not experts.
Awesome! Thank you!
I like this build and made one for my wife. She loves it
Awesome to hear!
There’s something very satisfying about that saw blade going through the wood
Amen
Great desk man!!!
Love it !
Amazing 👏🏽👏🏽
Great job as always!
Thanks again!
Another fantastic video!
Thanks!
Simple and easy great job
Thanks !
I saw a woodworker recently use a length of dowel that matched the diameter of his counter-sunk screw holes and used a flush cut saw to trim... just an idea to avoid the process of having to cut your own plugs! Either way, great video! The table looks awesome!
Thanks, thats a great idea, long as the wood types match it would work great,.
Great work :)
Would really love to have more info on this to build it for my wife's new office.
Nice Job! Just one tip: make sure your end grains are opposite between boards( that are running together parallel- as in your multi board table top) this will minimize any warping over time. If they all are running the same there is no counter grain pressure. One end grain curves down, the next board turn it up the third board turn it down again. Up- down-up. But as I said great DIY build.
That is the only thing I can comment on ( reversing the end grain between the boards to avoid warping) because other than that your project is awesome, great work Man!
Beautiful
Thank you!
Knew I enjoyed your content then seen the corvette and solidified that thought haha
😂 Heck ya, thanks! I like the what looks like Atomic Orange I see in your picture.
Nice desk Mr. G!
Thanks!
Bro I love farms. never seen one like that tho I prefer the cattle kind.
Thanks for watching!
Nice job Mr. GoPro!
Thanks! 👍
Where can I get the same wood you have used in this video? It looks very nice.
Once again a magnificent video!
Thanks again!
What steps did you do to allow for wood movement in the future? Looks like wood may split on you due to no relief areas. I may be wrong.
Just noticed that Kent State shirt. Go Flashes!!!
Just came across this build. Awesome Work! Although made it look easy. I was wondering if you can share the dimensions for all the pieces that you used for the legs for some of us that are ancient and have never used CAD. Thanks in advance.
I’m interested as well!
Could you have a hardware store pre-cut these parts so you can just put the pieces together? I don't have any cutting tools.
Your wife has good taste!
Agreed! 😉
Nice ZR1 you got there
Thanks! Actually a Z06 with ZR1 wheels, spoiler, skirts.... haha
Can u share the CAD files of your projects you made on this channel? Like this desk, and your projects from your most recent videos.
That would be great if you could
Full send
Thanks!
What CAD program are you using in the beginning, and how many brownie points did you get for this, haha? It looks good!
Fusion 360, I love it! HAHA happy wife happy life
What angle did you do your 2x4 at?
Would you mind posting the measurements for the corner support and the lap joint cuts? That’d make the DIY complete!
Also what lessons did you learn from this build!
Would you recommend using butchers block for the desk top?
That would look really good!
Классный стол
do you have plans that you could share?
do you have a material and cut list yet???
Very nice, I like it....and Good husband!
Thanks! Happy Wife....
How tall did you make it?
What's the name of the software you used???
So...when are you having a Corvette giveaway? Blue happens to be my daughter's favorite color!
Hahaha It will be hard to part with that one its the dream car. I think I could afford a Hot Wheels giveaway lol
@@ThatTechTeacher427 I have always wanted a vette, but I want a 1962 with the 327 and 4 speed. For now, I'll have to settle with my 1957 chevy. Lol
So if you had to do the besk again would you have maybe made it say wider
So far the wife likes it but it could be a little wider
i would like to wall mount this, save a lot of time and resources for not building a good legs...
can I come by and cut the wood on your machine cause I don't have one of those
I am thinking this might work as breakfast nook also? 🤔
For sure, really just an L shaped table.
Is there any way you could share the plans for this?
At the moment I cannot but that is something I am working towards. Sorry someday
but, if you glued these plugs 7:18, then how do you unscrew the screws later?
I only plugged the screws on the angle braces on the legs. These are easily seen, anything that is difficult to see like the screws holding the leg to the desk top I did not plug so that they could be removed later.
@@ThatTechTeacher427 THX :-)
how far in did you measure in for the lap joint?
im going to take a guess and say 5 and a quarter in is where the lap joint starts
That your estimate below is pretty close. That distance is determined from the edge of the support rail to the edge of the support and it needs to line up to to the legs on either side. This will change based on the measurements of the desk you build.
Would love to have the dimensions and drawn out plans!
That awesome and is something I am working on to expand the channel. The rough dimensions are in the video but I know that is not much to go on. Thanks
@@ThatTechTeacher427 my wife found this and now I'm going to build it. If you get the dimensions, I would love access to them. We just bought our first home and I'm turning a bedroom into her office. Thanks!
Note to self build a 6’x8’ lol
I’m looking to do a 5’ x 6’ or 7’ in the near future, myself.
I always laugh when folks are like build this for under 100...then has a shop full of thousands worth of tools to make it. Desk looks nice though!
Why do all this informative stuff but not say the length or the angles??
Thanks for watching
I see people are using ryobi alot more
After endless searching...I never understand these DIY videos as they are either not as informative as they need to be or missing key steps.... Where does one go for 1:35-2:00? The end results are always great but half of the time I'm left with missing pieces of the puzzle. Fusion 360...free trial, gift, or paid the $50 a month sub....so many issues with the misleading pricing.
Hi
Hi
Please, don't ever say "Kreg jig screws" again. Pocket holes predate Kreg as a company. In fact, they predate America as a country.
I think it is better to remove the $ 100 value from the video description, as this is not true. At least the respected author does not include the cost of all the equipment that was used in the assembly. I don’t think people have at least half of the tools in the pantry. 😂
I see your point...
That's the one thing I can't stand about these videos...the day to day average person doesn't own half this stuff. Here I am going.."is there a wood working shop" in the area with all these fancy tools. I have a saw, a miter saw, a few jig saws and such along with drills and I even have a pocket hole kit...the rest...WTF. As I look through videos to figure a way to build my own as an average joe, I find a lot of deceiving BS...the desk looks great but the process is not obtainable by most.

Thanks for watching!
Under 2 minutes into the video and it’s already not a DIY, who has access to a planer, jointer or table saw?
Oh yeah. Do you love me? 😍💋 💝💖❤️
