Danish oil is the best finish ever. super easy, and it dries rock hard. it lasts a long time. when the time comes to refinish, you can buff it up with fine steel wool then reapply. great stuff.
NICE!!.. As (an Old) Skater-Surfer, I 'eventually' HAD-TO convert to A Longboard.. Short Story: The 'Rock-Maple'.. w/ 'Walnut Stringers'.. (& A LOT OF DESIGN WORK).. Made Me Certain I would be Natl.. In a Year??.. But.. 'life can get in the way'.. Ohh, the 'biscuits'.. (for such an abusive-use).. MADE A BIG DIFF!!.. THEY'RE INDESTRUCTIBLE!!..
Enjoyed the video. Desk looks good, steps easy to follow. I can tell you are an educator, clear, concise directions, built in reflection time. Not sure whose helmet that is but it reflects a lot of hard work and G. A. T. A.
I knew he was a rank amateur when he didn't test the stud finder on himself. What a clown. It's a nice desk. I'm planning something similar to match one of my guitar necks. Good video.
Looks good! However for comfort and ergonomics, the thinner the top (and thus the closer to parallel your legs and arms can be while still dropping the shoulder as low as possible), is preferable. But each to their own!
I’m definitely going to replicate this desk frame setup when I build my PC setup in my room. Great idea, except I don’t have a limited area like you do in that fall back in the wall so I can just square out a desk and get it flush with the wall and I’ll be fine
I did a similar setup last year. I made the mistake of measuring from the floor and just going off that. It's not super un-level but it isn't perfectly level either. Looks good!
Hello Tech Teacher! Beautiful end product!! I don't have easy access to the tools you do (nor do i have the skillset!), but you have given me an idea :-D I will try to mimic the stripes using different stains (and much patience...) on my beautiful piece of maple. Thx for the video and for breaking down the build & install step-by-step. It's really REALLY useful for newbies like me. Oh, and I just bought myself a new stud finder and Kreg jig ;-)
Great job and just what I am looking for, for my home office. Same size space too, give or take...Also, watched your monitor mounting video, will incorporate that into my office.
DIY.... uses machines your average joe shmoe does not have. could have added a bit that you can just order butcher blocks from a hardware store, or even Ikea. as for the wall not be flush, just leave a gap and run an led light strip along the back and find a way to seal off the gap from underneath so that you can add a translucent resin layer that the light will shine through but perhaps not completely translucent if you want to diffuse the light (just need to make sure it won't leak all over the place).boom done.

get the wood cut to size from someone else. Maybe the workshop you buy the wood from could do it for you. You would just need a drill and some screws then
Could the same be done for a 1" thick, 110" wide and 31" deep desk using the same wall mounting setup? How sturdy did it all feel once it was done a dusted?
Could you please do one with just 1" thk planks and wall brackets..? As easy as possible cuz we don't have all the carpentry tools to do the 4"x2" framework. Thank you
Im not experienced on this and want to make a similar project. So my question is why glue pieces when you can buy a piece of ply wood for the top? Is there a reason for putting pieces together? Your video is great and will help me make mine. I want to make sure I make no mistakes.
I did this a couple of years ago. I regretted butting worktop all the way to the walls. An expansion gap was required. The result was load noises as it expanded and contracted.
5:41 It wasn't all that clean of a cut. I see a chunk of the front panel broke off. I've had the same problem and have solved that by doing all my circular saw cuts on top of hard foam insulation boards. or even pieces of foam packing that comes in boxes for televisions and other stuff. Since it supports both the main piece and cut-off, you'll never break off a corner when cutting on it.
Great video. I'm planning a similar project for my office. I'm curious about the scribing technique you used to butt the left side of the desktop against the wall. Any more tips on that?
Looks awesome! Thinking of doing something similar. Have you had any issues arise from screwing the top directly to the frame? That wouldn't allow for much seasonal movement.
Small tip if you need to be more precise measuring an inside length like that, check your tape, it should have a measurement on it. you can then back it all the way against the wall on the right with the end of the tape on the left. add what you see on the tape to the length indicated on the roll(usually like 2 1/2 inches or in that neighborhood). much easier that trying to guess on the bent tape.
Great video! I noticed that your pocket holes on the shorter boards inside the frame alternate what side they are on for screwing into the wall-mounted back board vs the front board. Is there a reason for that?

Yes, the perfect DIY setup. Let me just get my drum sander from my local hardware shop.
I love DIY videos that show $20,000 worth of tools!
Desk matches the stripe on the Buckeye helmet. Looks awesome!
Thanks!
Boom! O-H!!
I wish I had your carpentry skills and workshop tools. This project turned out so flush.
Love this desk!!! Love the edges you made, it looks like the block O. Go Bucks!!!

Nice Helmet. O-H!
Thumbs up for the Buckeye helmet alone. Great video!!
I knew he was a rank amateur when he didn't test the stud finder on himself. What a clown.
It's a nice desk. I'm planning something similar to match one of my guitar necks. Good video.
This turned out to be beautiful!
Thanks I appreciate it!
Go Buckeyes!!!

I started off watching the shadowbox fence build, which blew me away and then I saw that beautiful Scarlet and Gray! Keep up the great content. O-H!
Thanks for the video. Man, you have access to some pro tools. Greetings from France!

Also, mine is made from concrete.
Huge improvement to before and looks super strong. Great idea and giving me ideas, thank you.
Mesa incrível, belíssimo trabalho, parabéns!
5:55 I like being the type of guy who has to cut twice. Everything I do is just enough to get by, minimal quality in all areas. :D
I would like a floating L corner desk

BEAUTIFUL!
I LOVVVE IT~!
You could use some cauk to fill in the gaps between the desk and the wall
I have been thinking about it but it is so close I just havent done it yet
Thanks a lot for the idea! I'll make it. Looks awesome!! Thanks
Man this is a masterpiece
Thanks!
Did you put Teak Oil on the underside of the desk? This helps problems with cracking/cupping in the future. Great project.
This came out so cool. Awesome job bro. I think I'm going to do the exact same thing!
Go bucks!
I absolutely love what you did! I admire your work! Just one question out of curiosity, what program did you use to 3D model your desk?

@6:20 the boss shows up to make sure your working.
I did this a couple of years ago. I regretted butting worktop all the way to the walls. An expansion gap was required. The result was load noises as it expanded and contracted.
That's a good point. I havent heard much yet but we will see. Thanks

When is the next vid coming? I have the same desk and i’m looking to see how i should manage my cables.
I am working on it right now and it should be pretty soon. Thanks for watching
how long is your desk? awesome job man
im watching to learn how to cable manage a floating desk
You have come to the right place I believe
Nice

lock nice thankyou
Go Buckeyes
Nice job
Thanks!
Looks awesome! Thinking of doing something similar. Have you had any issues arise from screwing the top directly to the frame? That wouldn't allow for much seasonal movement.
would you please share the width of each wood type (oak, walnut, maple and cherry) you used to get the depth of 26"?
Small tip if you need to be more precise measuring an inside length like that, check your tape, it should have a measurement on it. you can then back it all the way against the wall on the right with the end of the tape on the left. add what you see on the tape to the length indicated on the roll(usually like 2 1/2 inches or in that neighborhood). much easier that trying to guess on the bent tape.
Can you tell how long, wide is the desk? I still can't understand how the skeleton can stand the desk top technically. Thanks in advance
Great video, thank you.
How much weight do you think this can reasonably support? Over or under 100 lbs?
Go Bucks!
Great Build. That danish oil smells nasty after it dried up. if it's me, i will use Tung oil or linseed. but all in all it's looks great.
Thanks!
Awesome
Great video
Thanks! I appreciate it!
What kind of wood did you use on the top to give that contrasting look?
Great video! I noticed that your pocket holes on the shorter boards inside the frame alternate what side they are on for screwing into the wall-mounted back board vs the front board. Is there a reason for that?
O-H..!
I-O!!!
Круто вышло брат. Но не будет ли древесина расширяться и не лопнет ли от этого стена?
How do you think this would look with the lighter wood switched out with darker wood and vice-versa
Any concern with wood movement? Seems like it would grow or shrink and the pocket screws would crack the wood.
if this is a computer desk look into a pull out keyboard I love mine ps go green/go white
Will do, haha
Hi, would this work for 3 meter version? Thanks
