You might be the only person that I've seen that shares my respect for the huge desk. I built my own in a similar fashion a while back and it's 6'x3' and when people see it they act like it's over the top. But I like to have room to move and work. Places to lay things without cramping my keyboard space, room for my arms to rest so that long sessions are comfortable. I'm building a new one that is 6" deeper and I got lucky and accidentally found your video. Really nice work and I'm going to try the rustic style. Love the setup. Thanks!
Your desks look amazing. I have been shopping for a couple desks for our home office and I may just watch this about 30 more times so I get comfortable with the overall process. Great video!
Cheers for this, I been tryin to find out about "built furniture" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Venoffison Wooden Exploration - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my friend got excellent success with it.
@@LD-ms9ki I'm making my 3rd. One is in my teen son's room (48"), one I sold (also 48") and this one will be 30"x 55" and mounted on a 2x4 leg set that includes 1x8 shelves at the runner and one end -- a custom request by my wife. I must be doing something right...
I'm a carpenter but these nice and clear instructions gave me the guts to go out and build a desk just like yours today. Couldn't be more happy with the outcome, great video. You earned yourself a sub :D
So last year I built my own wooden standing desk, and also a home gym. Lost 50lbs. Now I stumbled on this video, and I'm thinking, the top of my desk looks lame in comparison. Guess it's time to upgrade it! Great video!
Thank you and your are the first DIY vid I actually ended up doing. I built a custom desk for my mother for Christmas just waiting for stain to dry to finish up. Threw some leds in it and used some of the natural holes in the wood to run cables.
Great job and I like the execution of your video. Not too technical and boring, but precise enough to get the idea what to do. I made a similar table a week ago (2 white Alex drawers and a 6'5 wooden top) for my editing station and it worked out perfectly. Will build a second one for my daughter too.
found this from watching a whiskey review 3 days before i planned to buy a "counter top desktop" now that's some perfect timing. Project starting next week!
Hey man, just wanted to let you know that this video inspired my girlfriend and I to build a 12' tabletop for out WFH office. We are in the final steps putting on coats of poly and should be in our office by Monday. THANK YOU!!!
Man, out of every "wood working" video out there, you have no right having such high quality edits, lighting, aperture, and editing haha. Well done, truly enjoyed the watch.
There's a lot of desk building videos on RUclips but these desks are the best looking by MILES! Even when compared to retail options. It's not even debatable. Plus the satin finished worn wood look will never go out of style.
Jeremy - I watched this video a number of times before and during my desk project and thanks to you it came out just wonderful. Anyone who sees it is impressed and I have to give you credit. I am actually typing this on my (our) new desk and just love having done this project. You're the best!
Just discovered your channel because tryna build my own standing desk and was looking for ideias. WOW YOUR CHANNEL IS AMAZING SO HAPPY I FOUND IT! KEEP THE OUTSTANDING VIDEOS COMING LOVE THEM WOW!
Nice! I have been trying to figure out what type of top I wanted for my tv lift cabinet. This design will work great for my diy cabinet. I think the 2x6 length with 2x4 caps will look good due to the narrow look I am going for. And keep the puns going.
This is so helpful! Ikea has changed out their desk tops and they don't have long deep ones anymore. (maybe they never did) Anyhow their deepest desktop is not long and that won't work. I need at least 32 inches deep table for my art studio. My old IKEA desktop has it's place but it's not meant for what I do to desk tops. I need sturdy and solid. I've been back and forth between a solid core door or making one like this. I think the "as is" edges will work because if I need a sans-crevice worktop I have a small portable glass top work surface I use for many of my mediums I would use anyway, or a silicone surface protector, or my cutting mat. Plus I can more easily transport lumber than a solid core door. Win/WIN! Thanks for the info!
Love this video. Thanks so much! I was thinking about buying the IKEA Gerton desk for $100, but then I saw this. I love the distressed look. I'd make mine about 60 inches to accommodate for my dual monitors. Keep up the good work!
Thank you I’m wanting to build a desk but didn’t really know how and I’m 15 so don’t really have that good of knowledge when it comes to wood working so this will help a lot.
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this build. I liked this desktop so much that I actually built one myself. I also built a base and I am so glad I did all of this instead of going the store bought route. It was a lot of work, but it was so worth it.
Yo man. From another 35 yr old who loves the tech stuff and I'm a builder myself. I'm supporting your channel and I'm about to start my channel myself. Mucho appreciation for what you do and how you do it I'll be following as always
I love your desk. I've been trying to figure out a design, for a desk. I love the part of it sitting on the drawer units. How do you keep the boards level, when screwing them together? I have issues with them not lining up, when i screw them together.
it may help to put the middle section together without worrying about lining anything up or cutting it and after everything is joined making a straight cut with a T square and a circ saw. If you are talking about the wood lining up in terms of bowed lumber you either need to be more careful with your lumber choice or get a planer.
What I usually do is line up all my boards, making sure the crown going the same way. I take three pipe clams, lay them on a table; put my lined up boards over them and brush glue on both joining end and clamp them all together (the glue will be more than enough, not need for pocket screws). Then, sandwich two the outside with boards going perpendicular to your table. Let dry overnight. Cut both ends of the long boards using a guide and a circular saw. Then you can put the end pieces as he suggested.
Just followed your guide to building my own desk (mainly for the stain and distressed wood look portions). Ended up using pocket screws for the 5 middle boards but dowels for the side boards. All and all I love my new standing desk!! Thanks for the guidance Jeremy!
I made two desks similar, but as they were my first projects I now see a bunch of areas where I could have improved them. I am going to use your ideas when I create desks for my kids.
First video I see from this channel, straight to the point, no fluff and lots of good tips. Also, the video takes and general photographic composition is top notch!.
I don't know why it took me forever to find this video. Been looking for something to follow to make my own desk and this is exactly it! My only concern is making the pockets.. but ill still give it a go!
I would love to start building desk like these sooner or later and I would like to start a small business much like my father who is a master craftsman, you just gave me the inspiration I needed to start doing the work I use to love doing when I was younger. Now all I need is tools......
Excellent video for me - fast efficient. A short feeling 18 mins gave me every step I need to know to DIY a desktop. Now I'm a more dangerous weekend warrior. I subscribed.
I am late in adding my comments but I just saw this video. I love the desktops. I have always been a fan of wood and these desktops are gorgeous. I may do one for myself. Great job!!!
@5:00 this is so damn true. The long pieces of trim at Home Depot that are at a 30 degree angle towards the end. I found a local clearance center that sells lumber at a very cheap price. I got primed 4 1/2" pine crown for $1 a linear foot. They sell all TYPES of wood at the same cost per foot. I'm gonna see if they have some denser types of woods that I'll use to build me a computer desk. I have a cheap, pressed wood Walmart thing that I bought from someone on Craigs a few years ago. I'm ready for a nice, home made piece of art (desk).
Great tutorial..I always like building stuff..I invested on power tools and currently building my own desk, and yes once you have all the tools the rest of your build will be way cheaper...thanks again!
As much as I can't stand the internet for all of the toxic vitriol being thrown around these days, it's videos like this that make me appreciate how awesome and useful it actually can be.
Just stumbled across this vid. Had a good time. Video well done, you can’t have enough puns if you ask me. Anyway, Great beard, awesome build, project came out great. You had me cracking up man, stay cool.
I have dropped a coffee table upside down on fresh limestone in the driveway and banged it up and down a few times to distress before. It worked well... then I did some light sanding
Literally since the Corona virus started I have not been able to find any good deals online or at local stores so I just decided to build one. Good tutorial overall
Love this. Great video. What is the base that can be raised and lowered. I trade daily for a living and this is awesome. Sorry if I missed it. This is really awesome. So doing this.
Excellent tutorial video Jeremy! Over the last year or so I've started building some stuff for the reasons you mentioned, perfect size, color, etc. Been thinking about doing a more distressed look for my own office desk, think I may try this route!
Great video! Was just wondering which kreg jig i should buy for building a tabletop like this. Would a kreg R3 work or do i need a heavy duty jig for this kind of build? And if i choose the HD jig. Do I need HD screws as well or would the regular two and a half inch screws work?
Great video - what lumber (timber to us Brits) did you use? Having a look around and there a load of different options including, hard or soft wood (😆), treated, planed...etc etc.
Hi Jeremy, I've completed 3 of these tops thus far. The 1st and 3rd were about 28x48, the 2nd was about 28x60. Relying on your knowledge and insight, each top I build is better than the previous. Thanks for such an informative video! If you've got an effective way to share images, I'd love to share a few snapshots of how they came out.
I’m watching because I want a desktop and this video was very informative. Don’t look to difficult at all. Need to get tools though. Thanks for the video my friend☺️👍🏽
I've watched this video like 3 or 4 times now. I love it. Since you do woodwork, I'd REALLY like to see a video on you making a cigar ashtray... Can you make that happen?
Great video! awesome audio and fantastic editing. It shows that you definitely put in effort in your vids! The wood top is fantastic as well, I just love how you took the time to give folks proper instructions and use the right tools instead of taking shortcuts. I think I found a new favorite channel!!!
Your videos are awesome! I have watched several of your videos...build desktop, closet, cigars, knives, boy they are all good. My son loves your desk. His birthday is coming and would like to make him that desktop, what are the dimensions of the desktop?
Man do I wish I could figure out a way to make a vid about that! I have had a tooon of requests for it. Unfortunately I can’t think of a good way to make a vid as I have no footage of me building it. And it is waaay to big for me to rebuild one for a video. It was a bit of a pain and don’t really have the space to build another in my garage these days. Also have no plans for it. I just kinda winged it off of a picture I saw when I built it. Soooo, kind of a bummer.
This came out Gorgeous. I'm in Ca & don't have the tools to make. Wish we were closer & I'd higher you to make it for me. You are so adorable & really fun to watch.
Hi, first of all great job on the table came out great. I had a quick question if you can help me out, how long did you let the stain sit for before wiping it off to achive that color tone.
Great video I love wood working and building and this was inspiring for sure my last desk i made but laminated the top this next one you have inspired me to do the distressed look. Thanks
This was a great video and a different approach, more like a story or presentation which puts a nice perspective on it. I would like to ask, can use 2x2" as bread boards? I would like to make a small table, about 36 inches long but I don't want to put bread boards that are so wide, a 2x2" will make it look like a small frame. Instead of a pocket hole jig, which I don't have, I would like to drill holes that pass through the 2x2s and then to the table to put dowels (probably 3/4 inch, 4 inch long ones). Is this a good approach?
I have a table on my back porch I used 2x2’s as bread boards and it worked fine. You can definitely try the dowel approach. Lots of people use dowels to join things. I don’t have a ton of experience with them though. I usually use pocket holes just because the are quick and easy.
really happy youtube brought me here, you are such a fun person

Amazing work! Following tour guide right now! Question: Do you stain both sides of the table to avoid warping? Never build anything before…
Enjoyed the video! Suggestions for finding the leg supports like you used for the smaller table?
Have you ever tried shou sugi ban (Japanese wood burning.)
Really brings out the grain of the wood when you apply polyurethane.
Great with white pine

Thanks for the video. I was able to make new furniture for my office. Built to suit and works great!!
Love that you light your cigar with a torch, not convenient for travel but that's what I use in my garage.
Best cigar lighter ever!!!
Awesome desk/table tops and finishes. Exactly what I am looking for my daughter's apartment! Thank you!
Jeremy! Woodwork!? I am impressed! This was a welcome change of pace.
Thanks, I did something similar for my workbench in the garage. Love your videos; keep them coming!
The motorized standing desk is awesome! I got mine from Amazon and put my existing laminate top on. Keeps me from sitting on my keister all day long!
Which one did you get? Still working well?
Love this. Great video. What is the base that can be raised and lowered. I trade daily for a living and this is awesome. Sorry if I missed it. This is really awesome. So doing this.
Really wanting to make one of these. Looks like a fun build

Great video. Always appreciate them!
Great video, I am a rookie, and making one of these right now.....Is it necessary to buy pre-stain?
I built my desk a year ago today and followed this video! Thanks!
Hi Jeremy is there a Vid for the shelving you built in the cigar room ? Thanks
Love your moving camera technique.
nailed it with the cigar and coffee!! ☕️
I've watched this video like 3 or 4 times now. I love it. Since you do woodwork, I'd REALLY like to see a video on you making a cigar ashtray... Can you make that happen?
Never really tried something like that before 🤔. Might be a fun project.
Thank you! I was able to make my desktop for my standing desk, I'm just waiting to apply the polyurethane! It looks great!!! Great tutorial!
Great video! awesome audio and fantastic editing. It shows that you definitely put in effort in your vids! The wood top is fantastic as well, I just love how you took the time to give folks proper instructions and use the right tools instead of taking shortcuts. I think I found a new favorite channel!!!
I subbed because of this video! Love the woodworking/building vids Jeremy. Keep it up dude.
good simple job - i enjoyed it

I would have like to see you built it while describing it. I can connect more that way. But still a great build
And to also get to what he is going to. All in all, great piece.
Just wanted to know which filter do you use for thumbnail it look super amazing
Love your channel, the puns are great! Keep up the great work!!!

@@JeremySiers thanks for answering my questions, it's really appreciated. Will try to make the table with those 2x2's.
