My grandma's first job was packing matches in LA. She said everyone had a tiny fire extinguisher by their standing station and she got really good at quick draws. She said nothing major happened, it was just if you swooped up your 100 too fast it would catch a spark and a couple would catch fire. Ya know, nothing major in a factory full of them.
reminds me of my current job - I'm a welder, and we use rags soaked in lacquer thinner to clean parts before welding them. lacquer thinner is extremely flammable and about once a month someone will leave their bottle and rag a little too close while they're mig welding and one will go up. Almost nothing else in the shop is flammable though so we just toss the burning rags onto the floor and wait for them to go out or stamp them out. If the bottle goes up, though, that's when the fire extinguisher becomes necessary.
@@comradegarrett1202 Ooo thanks for the insider welder knowledge. I oil paint, and I didn't understand why you are supposed to keep your rags out of the sun and away from glass cups. I never started a fire, but I singed a towel and never forgot it.

Don’t you just LOVE how your most anxious driven and maybe slightly physically challenging projects end up being your favorite? I’ve been working on a glitter painting for over a year now and it’s been incredibly challenging and obviously time consuming. I also had no clue how much mod podge I would need for it. I’ve spent close to $400 in materials (including the burden on my energy bill and replacing two hair dryers) and it’s been incredibly rewarding watching something I first drafted coming into form. I’m not done yet, I have a lot of down time waiting on layers to cure so that I can see what it actually looks like between layers, because as you work with mod podge it isn’t actually clear while painting…so there is a LOT of “trust the process” moments lol. I’m terrified of the final layer because then I have to decided if I’m going to use a final layer with resin or if I’m going to do a final 3cm mod podge layer. The board it’s on is already pushing 50lbs and I’m going to have to make a metal case for displaying since the foam board can’t be used to put hardware on just to mount as it is.
Anyways, I just happened upon this in my recommendations and I’m really glad I watched it. Seeing someone else experience all the stages of grief with a project just encouraged me to hang in there.

She's not really into "building" stuff but I've met many women that are, they're amazing when they go for it!
That's an exciting gig! I'm envious. As for making things being a man's domain...that's rubbish. It's an outdated and certainly invalid mode of thinking. I figure one of my job as a parent is to impart as much practical knowledge as possible and if I do my job right, one day she won't need me anymore. It has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with being a self-sufficient adult...although I have gotten pretty good at doing braids.

6:20 I once set my prosthetic leg on fire. That was exciting, as I was wearing it at the time.
Eric Taylor 😲
@@sophialarkin Yea, I was welding when I heard someone say, "Hey man, you leg's on fire!"
Don't weld with a foam runner cover in your fake leg.
@@erictaylor5462 :-D
Did you just remove your prosthesis and chuck it like a badass?
@@themadscientest No, it's not that easy to remove. Fortunately I was wearing thick leather welding gloves. I was able to put the fire out with those.
It wrecked my pants and looked horrible, but there were no injuries.
“The big burn day”
Australia: *what*
You're, by far, my most favorite RUclipsr!
"Some people just want to see coffee tables burn, master Bruce"
😂😂😂
9:45 The part you want to see.
Thank
Good man
yeah, i definitely searched for this.
Thank
Math questions be like: “If Simone buys 20,000 matches how many will be left is she uses ONE match?"

Zero.

Just saw this video over a year after it released and when she mentioned Evan and Caitlin as epoxy gods I could only think of their little resin time tune
You're such a positive and inspiring human being
Right after mentioning Evan and Katelyn: *Simon breaks her glove*
Me, an E&K fan: This is why we double glove, Simon. This is why we double glove.
Exaaaactly :) And I am hearing this in E&K's voices.
That is literally the coolest table ever. I want to make this at school but I don't think they would like me burning 20,000 matches in the shop.
Yaaaaa they might have some questions for you 🤣
more like literally the HOTTEST table ever. I'll see myself out
That was so freakin' cool! A masterpiece! Love the not so subtle Wired mag cameo
This woman had a part of her brain removed and still has these amazing ideas... WHAT AM I DOING
Daniel Luu Well, technically, it wasn't her idea, it was her patrons ideas, she just executed them.
@@Krey_ ...if you can call the patrons giving her random words for the brainstorming framework she created, then Simone drafting multiple designs and plans, and then executing the project the "patrons" idea, I suppose.
Daniel Luu - Can you elaborate? This is my first video of hers. Thanks!
@@Andrea-xs4ny she had brain cancer
Maybe it was the part in charge of "That's impossible to do/ That doesn't make sense/ I don't feel like...."
Can't believe how perfect that burn ended up being, smashing result, definitely worth 3 days of match placement!
I love how much you dont care, but at the same time how much passion you have for all your crafts.
I'm in love with the flex at the end, love the table, but really congrats on Wired
10:10 Simone's "I made a thing!" face is the best face :D
What kind of monster doesn’t record this in slow-mo.
I wondered the same thing XD
Simone: makes highly flammable table.
Simone: immediately puts candle on top.
How is it anymore highly flammable than any other wooden table? The matcheads are burned
@@Heksu99 Yeah... It isn't.
@@Heksu99 it's just meant to be a funny comment.
I never said it was more flammable than other wooden tables. Just that it is a highly flammable table. It probably is more flammable than other tables because of the very thin pieces of wood sticking out of the bottom.
Does it still burn with the epoxy tho
@@Ultiminatiprobably not. Although it looks like it was only lightly painted on top.
I love how this is the complete opposite of 5 mins crafts and a thousand times more satisfying. Thank you for your content ❤️
