I was stoked to glean all your insight on the Honda Talon. This is exactly what I was looking for in regards to viable information to compare against the RZR- price, reliability, usability and how the whole family will experience the ride with stadium seating. Decided to go with the Talon.

There are very different machines to be cross shopping but both are pretty cool. For me the pro xp is so rewarding to push hard when your feeling froggy, it just gets better the more you push it and the Honda and Yamaha just can’t reach those limits because the suspension more so then the power

Thanks for the review. I would have liked to see more technical data in your video. I understand that you purchased the Talon primarily due to price and reliability, which are big on my list. However, I would have preferred to see other reasons. The Razr has 110 HP vs the Talon at 104 HP. Did you test drive both the Razr and Talon? Did you notice a difference? How was the handling of each? What type of terrain are you riding on? Etc..... Good video outside of lack of technical details. As someone commented below, I would love to hear comments on how the Talon performs. I am contemplating purchasing the Talon also so I look forward to your comments.

  • @fordmanfinis

I own both, well not a live valve but only because red is my farm color! And after 1700 miles I have had no issues with the talon....but the Polaris drive train is a maintenance nightmare. However the belt and clutch in the Polaris has never been replaced. But it does warp the housing and the belt gets wet easily. No issue for a talon. Took a while to train my foot on the talon to not snap necks at low speed.

I agree with your purchase, I have an 18 rzr xpt4 and I have been seriously thinking of trading it for the Honda Talon 4 seater. Couple things I want to point out, you talk about price but I think honestly a guy can't compare the two machines because the XP Pro has a lot more to offer one of them being almost 80 more horsepower. You equally equip the Talon with a turbo and 32 inch tires and such and you're going to be at the same or more in price. I do see the benefits of not having a belt, but the belt system is usually a pretty reliable system and if you carry a spare belt you can be fixed in about 15 or 20 minutes. Your belt issues was caused by a lack of maintenance and checking those bolt on your belt housing not the fault of the machine necessarily. There's lots of reports of those Honda Transmissions giving issue, and when they do you can't just pop on a new built and be on your way you'll be done and be walking back to the truck or being towed back to the truck. There are pros and cons to both, I don't see that one outweighs the other at least not at this point.
The next issue is reliability, Honda has it, at least for the most part. The side by side Community can say what they want but in most cases the Honda is going to give less trouble and less downtime compared to anything Polaris has to offer. They might have made their machines a little bit better but in my opinion they're still not to the quality and dependability of the Jap stuff.
Polaris makes very fun and usable machines but they also create lot of unhappy buyers due to their constant issues and breakdowns. Honda will continue to steal Polaris and Can-Am sales if they can truly build a machine thats more dependable and reliable. And that dependability will need to continue even after installing turbo and such modifications. It's not fair to compare a machine with a turbo to a machine without a turbo and say that one is more reliable, only time will tell in this department, but my bet would be with Honda even with an extra 80 to 100 more horsepower.

Hey Buddy, great choice! I've been in the business for 30 years as a parts manager and have always worked at Honda, Polaris and Yamaha dealers and I will tell you right now I wouldn't own a Polaris if you paid for it! Sure they are innovative but that's only because Honda will not put something on the market until it's proven. I tell people all the time I would sell maybe 6-10 Yamaha belts a year and on an average good day from a sales prospective I could sell that many Polaris belts in a day!!!! Not to mention all the other parts that fail and the sad thing is you never know what it's going to be electrical, axles, clutches everything you just never know!! Anyway enjoy your new machine it's awesome!!!!!!

I have been very intrigued by the Honda DCT and Honda reliability over all. I am eager to see your upcoming videos with the Talon and how you build your machine. I too am of the "frugal" nature and am looking forward to seeing your build. I think you have helped me make my decision. Very stiff!! That was the first big complaint my buddy's dad had when he first purchase his Talon. What I've gathered from a few other sources is that the live valve, which should be softer is actually quite a bit stiffer. I feel quite a few people with either machines are going to need some suspension work so the live valve is to a point not worth the money.

Starting with the Trail Hero in early October, then UTV Takeover sandwiched in late October before the long established SxS Adventure Rally in mid November. Yes I have 32s on the Talon now.

Can you add 32’s stock? Do you still prefer this over the razor?

    • @DerangedOffRoad
      @DerangedOffRoad  3 года назад

Yes he added them to a stock machine and the stock rims. I think he would still choose the Talon over the Razor.

We went to the dealer and ruled out the talon 4 because the rear seats are just too tight.

The one from that vid is a 12'. I moved to a 14 footer with ramp. It fit fine with stock tires but when I moved to 32's, it wasn't quite long enough. -Joe

Screw that, you might as well be trying to drive a bus down the trails. The Can-Am 4 seaters are very long, very expensive and hard to see over the hood and are a nightmare to work on. At least as far as a four-seater option they would be at the bottom of my list.

Talon is junk.. the suspension has bad geometry!
Go look at shock therapy videos and hear from a pro that actually know about the bikes. Not some shmoe thatjust bought one and thinks he knows anything about them.

With all due respect Unicorn Queen, shock therapy’s opinion is not gospel. If you want to kiss their butt though, you’ll have to get in line cause there’s plenty of pro’s like you already standing in line, lips puckered.
PS - We never claimed the Talon was as good or better than the ProXP. We own one of those as well, and I can assure you it’s not. -Joe
