I have had the pleasure of working in manufacturing for both of these companies. I was associated with Honda for 10 years, then worked for Polaris for 2. I was part of the recall field team for Polaris. I can honestly say that there would never be a situation where I would choose a Polaris product over a comparable Honda product. The quality of the Honda will be better than that of Polaris 100% of the time.
@Dash I can't speak to the manufacturing quality of can-am. I can say that when I was at all the powers ports dealers in socal, I saw fewer in repair shops, but I suspect their manufacturer process is sub par right with polaris. These 2 make what their customers want at about a 40% profit margin. It's what they do. Honda has cars, jets, drones, all the way down to 2-cycle, no room for mediocrity.
I just lemoned my Honda talon x live valve and bought a rzr pro xp. I owned Hondas my whole life but between corporate Honda’s poor customer service and the dealership slow repairs I had my talon for 3 weeks and drove it 110 miles. It lost oil pressure and Honda refused to replace the engine
DCT for me. All day. Any day. Everyday. I’ve driven the limited edition pioneer with the DCT transmission. I own a RZR XP 900 . I’m tired of broken belts . Give me the talon
First off I’ve had RZRs, and I’ve had a ton of fun when I got my first XP. But they were all used, and between 1200 - 1800 miles. My 12 XP was a ton of fun and surprisingly never let me down in 300+ miles. But even though I didn’t have any issues with my XP, or the others I was always wondering when they were going to let me down and die. When it comes to Honda I’ve had a bunch of ATVs and dirt bikes. My first dirt bike was a Honda XR200R which was great, and never had a issue in the years of abuse I gave it on the trails. All my Ranchers were equally as reliable and fun to use. But my first ever SXS was a 2017 Honda Pioneer 500. It was in the price range I wanted to be in for my first new, well anything on wheels with an engine. Now I did test drive everything else in the sub 10k price range, but was won over by the fact that the Honda just felt like it had more power than it really had unlike the Other options. Suspension travel was a joke compared to the competition, but I knew it wasn’t going to let me down. I beat that thing like it owed me money, but it never gave me a single problem in 2,000+ miles. The downside was the suspension for sure, but the shiftable transmission was also a bit of a sore spot with its clunky shifting, and terrible tuning in Auto mode. I ended up selling it to my dad as a workhorse for him and it’s been great with zero problems for him as well. Fast forward to August of 2019 and I was looking for my next SXS but new this time. I knew that the XP900 that I had was great for me spec wise, but it was getting higher in miles, and I knew something would go wrong. I test drove everything in the 20k price range and was stuck between the Polaris General, and the Honda Talon X. After a lot of thought, and research I ended up going with the Honda 1000X. I absolutely love it, everything works exactly right, the shifting is buttery smooth for any situation, suspension is amazing, and the reliability factor is undeniably the best in the industry. It may have its one trim level, but it’s perfect with its standard roof, great power steering, and transmission modes. I have jumped it, rallied through root and rock infested trails, and climbed over rock gardens with ease. So in the end the Honda doesn’t have the most hp, suspension travel, or a sound system, but it does perform above its numbers, and will get me home every time without fail, and that’s a feature nobody else can say for sure.
Its just hard to beat a Honda. I've had XR's, CR's, Accords, 300EX....now I'm looking at a SXS and the Pioneer seems to be the way to go for a family fun machine. Not really into a super high performance machine as I want my 11 year old to grow up riding it, but a 75% sport and a 25% work (keep my mountain bike trails clear).
I've never met a Honda I didn't like, and I've had many. Hopefully the Talon follows suit with the rest of Honda with build quality, design, and reliability.
Kenny Dunn you won’t be disappointed with a Pioneer. The 500 did have really rough shifting (by design), and low travel suspension but I find myself missing it. Luckily every time I go home I can still play with it in the much tighter trails on my families property. I’m not exactly sure when, but once my Talon is paid off I can see myself getting another Pioneer (700 or a 1000) for utility or my wife kid SXS.
Joe Chief I’m at almost a year with no issues. I live outside Fairbanks AK which has -40 winters, and I’ve driven mine through the winter with no issues.
I’ve had it with unreliable machines I’m sticking with Honda I’m about to go get myself in trouble and finance a machine my house is paid off the wife and kids are gone and I’m about to turn 50 wouldn’t y’all say I deserve it?
deere3321 you must of been a newbie to go with Polaris. been in the game for about 20 years and also a very mechanically inclined person Honda and Yamaha are the way to go
I have a 2012 Wildcat 1000 I purchased new, over 3000 miles on it, and love it! But recently bought a Talon X, all I can say is wow, the transmission changes everything, I love being able to control the rpm, and the engine braking is great, downside is ride quality, the Talon has a very firm ride, even with the shocks set to the softest setting, I have a Shock Therapy spring set ordered, anxiously waiting to get them installed!,
I would personally go for the pro XP, I have owned a rzr for 5 years and it's been pretty reliable with no issues other than one recall. The belt thing is not an issue either if you drive-in low when you should be, I haven't broke a belt in over 10 years of quading and I have two belt driven Polaris ATV's. Also I have a group of friends that rides, all but 1 are razors, prior they were Honda, Kawasaki guys and was surprised to see all still riding rzrs at our last ride.
I got the Honda because in 5 years it will still be worth having. The Polaris is sweet but I’m not rich enough to keep fixing a machine in a the long term ownership. I picked up a talon x for 16000 so I feel like I got a deal. I’ve never felt like I needed more power for the type of riding I do. Plenty of people that bog there machines are very impressed with the low range in the talon when they are spinning 35 inch tires without any worries about smoking a belt.
I would choose the Talon,,, only because I just feel a lil more comfortable with a Honda product... although as mentioned,,, can't lose with either one of these beauties
Really no comparison between these two machines if we're being honest. Now the Talon versus the new Kawasaki krx? That I want to see !!!! THATS A MATCH-UP!!!
cybermavrik very true and to add- the comparison should be done with the R Model Honda..... width seems to be the comparison basis and it leaves Honda at a disadvantage on high speed runs. 👍🏽
@@BMWM3COMP69 good breakdown and thanks for sharing.... I think my 2012 900 XP is a much more comparable machine to the Talon.... but I'm looking forward to the Talon versus the new Kawasaki. I really really like that new Kawasaki but it seems like it's a little doggie and it's a little slow on the top end
I’m going for the Pro Xp4. Have had 3 RZR’s so far and never had an issue. I take care of my stuff and do proper maintenance. That Honda looks really good though.
NorcalFA5 I agree, never had an issue with any brand when proper maintenance is done. I have a ‘19 XP4T and we love it, over 1200 miles in 6 months with no issues. It’s very comfortable and has plenty of power with no mods. Still looks like new too. I would try a Talon 4 seater but they are too late to the game and under powered imo.
I have a 2014 and I spend $1000 almost every trip on repairs. Never any motor issues, just crappy plastics that come apart at seams and weak suspension. A lot of this probably got fixed in newer models but Polaris should stand behind the junk they put in the 2014 and do some recalls.
Jarret Fink interesting you’re having so many issues with plastics and connections. Not sure how that could be an issue unless it has to do with the conditions like contact with major brush, rocks, ground...I’ve owned several brands and not had an issue. Remember, a lot of the complaints people have are from lack of maintenance or operating in conditions these expensive toys were never intended for, thus failures. I wouldn’t recommend a turbocharged machine to anyone who can’t keep it clean, they produce more heat this won’t last, not to mention the extra power which can break drive lines.
@@snowrulesnate It happened without any contact. I showed it to the dealer and he said that the plastic was bad quality. He also said it looked like the bold had been over tightened from the factory causing the plastic to crack and then the first time being vibrated the cracks spread everywhere.
To me , when you buy NEW you expect quality. You buy used. You expect aftermarket support usually in the case of go fast goodies. The last New sports machine i bought was a 2001 DS650. Its was everything that I wanted. And it lasted for ever no matter how much I beat on it. And modified it. I've been out of the "game" now for 10years. But when looking at today's choices for SxS. Its so AWESOME to see the amount of competition there is in the industry. For my needs, 2 machines get me excited. 1st the Honda Talon X, 2nd the yamaha Wolverine. Those two machines peak my interest very much.
The yxz claimed less power loss than rzr as well. This wasnt the case when they were strapped to a dyno. You guys should do an episode with dyno runs of the two. That would be so sweet. Both these machines are pretty awesome regardless
Agreed. May I also suggest a drag race on a high traction surface and a rolling drag race. Then I would love too see a fuel economy test using the both machines at the same time. Then after a few hours check to see how much fuel is left. A bigger tank doesn't allow mean better range. Despite having a smaller tank my dad's 500 Suzuki Vinson with a 5 speed manual gets nearly twice the range than his 650 Kawasaki Brute Force with a CVT.
Definitely less off the line, once it's going, or rolling start, it's gone. Rzrs usually run bigger tires that the 2016 17 and 18s just can't without a gear reduction kit. That's 2k just for the kit, 2k that the rzr could use in upgrades to make it even quicker, or better in the mud
No way an talon would keep up with a Rzr Pro. Plenty of evidence online, specially with bigger tires than stock. You are bullshitting hard. Unless you mean a rzr 900 lol
30 years ago I was in the market for an ATV. A friend of mine that owned a Polaris and worked at a tractor dealer that sold Polaris told me they were new in the market and not as good as Honda or Yamaha. I bought a 1994 Yamaha 400 Kodiak and it was a great machine for the farm. In 2011 the Kodiak was showing it's age and I decided we needed a SXS. The problem was most SXS's cost more than I wanted to spend and most brands had few models to choose from. I bought a Polaris ranger 500 mid size for a reasonable price from my local dealer. WOW this machine was great. We had zero issues with it but the kids were bigger so we bought a 2018 Ranger XP1000. We sold the 500 for way more than we thought we would get and the new owner is still running it. In between the Rangers I wanted a "cheep" ATV and bought a Polaris 500 sportsman, then a 850 sportsman and then a RZR 1000S. And now a RZR XP Pro. No breakdowns or lost time but a few minor issues. A temp sensor, a spark plug coil and a brake sensor. Nothing that kept me from riding. So for me every time I needed or wanted a new machine Polaris had a model for me. I do believe Honda and Yamaha have better quality but Polaris always had a model for my needs and has never given me a reason to jump ship. My son has 4 SXSs and the 2 Can Ams are DOA behind the barn but his YXZ and RZR are still going strong.
I just brought a 2019 RZR 1000 XP Rock & Trail. I took it to a race track and it was a blast will be testing it out in march in the hills of Arkansas. I had a RZR 800s and ran hard never had any problems.
I have a 1000r and the DCT trans amazes me and is a thrill to drive each time I take it out. It's a great transmission and I think itll be the way of the future for sxs's.
I did buy the 2021 Polaris pro Xp premium. I have to say it is awesome. My son did roll it the very first time we took it out and it cost me $3000 to replace the painted plastics but over all it is the coolest machine I have ever owned. Just got it street legal here in Washington. Power is unbelievable, I’ve never rode a Honda Talon but I can not believe it could keep up with this pro Xp.
Me aswell, Polaris doesn’t have a good track record for reliability at all. Honda is the king and whenever they give us a new big bore sport atv they will dominate
No one ever talks about part throttle cruising in these, with the honda it goes into high gear and feels calm with low revs, on a cvt weather your doing 15 mph or 60 mph that thing is revving at a much higher rpm and always feels high strung. Honda all day for me.
Already own a Talon X and have zero regrets. It is a tight, well-handling machine, perfect for the kind of trail riding we do. For me, the gear-on-gear transmission was the difference. For that reason, the only two machines that really held my interest were the Honda and the Yamaha YXZ. The Honda gives me a true DCT, with full auto or manual shift capability and, more importantly, it includes a low-range, which the Yamaha just doesn't have. For us, we made the right decision. Steve
Same here I was just about to buy a YXZ, than Honda gave a release date for the talon. I went with the talon mainly because it had low range and was fully automatic. I go to the mountains a couple of times a year to ride and low range helps a lot. The talon is not perfect but it's perfect for the type of riding I do.
I must say Honda has really designed an amazing sport side by side with the Talon , But I’m still gonna upgrade from my 2014 XP1000 to the PRO XP simply because I love Polaris’s AWD system and ride .
Between the two machines, Honda Talon X. But with such a wide variety I’d be more split between the Can am Commander 800xt or the Yamaha X2 since personally I dont hit the dunes. Plus, it would be a far better choice helping maintain the family property and just a touch cheaper than either the Talon or Rzr Pro XP. The X2 has (in my opinion) the best setup cvt but the Commander XT has larger tires, bumpers and winch right out of the box. The work and play machines are very under rated in my opinion, do you really need to go 60-70mph on a trail?
I bought a 2014 RZR XP1000 and have had non stop problems. All my issues were common and the dealer has told me Polaris just doesn't care. Example. The plastics along the floor board/running boards are garbage. With less than 50 hours they fell apart at every bolt whole. Mine now has more JB Weld than plastic. Also the A arms all bent and the rear trailing arms bent. I had to upgrade all of them. And we don't ride hard at all. Pretty much every trip I have had to drop $1000 in repairs. I'm one repair away from calling it quits and buying a fishing boat...not really.
Just bought a xp pro.. seems to be a no brainer. More hp, way more travel, better clearance, bigger tires! Love me a Honda but there’s no comparison. Hopefully the engineers did their homework as I don’t usually buy first year on a new model. Everything seems to be better and stronger though and I love my 18 xp 1000
I’ve had the oem belt on my rzr 800 and my 6x6 big boss 800efi. The big boss has 8500 hard miles of going sideways and the rzr is rocking 30” tractor tires with a clutch kit.
Having owned the original RZR 800 and its issue with the air cleaner sucking in dirt that caused after only 300 miles to have the motor to burn oil so bad that it would only get 20 miles before needing a quart of oil, in a system that only has 2 quarts of oil. Then Polaris not honoring a warranty fix of this issue makes owning another Polaris product not a possibility unless Polaris offers a 4 year wheel to wheel warranty and doesn't dodge its responsibility to address its product issues head-on . That being said I also owned a Honda Rincon 650 with a DCT transmission that was very reliable, but the Talon has also had its growing pains with radiator fan recall and the overly harsh rear shock setup and not offering the "Live Valve" shock system on the 2 seater 1000X or 1000R models really make it a tough choice considering the Kawasaki KXR 1000 entree into this equation even more of a difficult buying decision, as well as the Yamaha 1000R SS to consider. Then with Honda so far only is offering an aftermarket Jackson built turbo for the Talon, and with Yamaha has its own Sidewinder turbo motor that they somehow has failed to utilize on their YXZ 1000R is mind boggling too. So in closing power, suspension, reliability and comfort are what were all after and not just chasing after the next shinning thing to hit the market.
Overall I really like my X. Great fit and finish as they say, outstanding good looks. Comfortable seating, adjustable steering column. And everything else mentioned in the video. But it has flaws. We ride in the Mojave Desert, and the stock air filter is a joke. First of all, it's a one or two use pony that runs 50 bucks. Intake is positioned to suck in the dust raised by the front tire. You can get into the transmission quicker than you can get to the filter. A PITA. I'm adding a pre-filter today that should increase the life of the stock filter, but it still requires pulling off two big chunks of the machines covering and taking out the 11 screws to pull the OEM filter to access and clean the pre-filter. Also there is a device in the filler neck that causes you to take several minutes to get the last gallon or so of gasoline in the tank. It can be removed. My final complaint his Honda failed to put in a display panel. Oh, you say they did? Oh, there it is! Cute. Useless even on smooth pavement.
I have a 2021 Talon R. Totally a great machine but as others have mentioned the air filter system is sub par in stock mode. You can add a good pre-filter and the problem is fixed. I have a $250 BVC system and I’m very happy with it.
Guys your videos are great but every time I watch them I wish you took the time to create a comparison graphic that puts the vehicle stats side by side for us to pause the video and analyze the data....
I already bought my "Dream Machine", a Can-Am XRC Turbo RR! I love it. After this video, my question would be this. Why not do a straight up comparison between the Turbo XP and the Talon with the aftermarket turbo? Later when the 72 inch Turbo XP comes out, you can compare it to the Can-Am Turbo RR models! Exciting time for Side By Sides! I just hope they Never quit trying to one up each other?!?! We all Win!
@@zTimmyz0244 Thanks. Always searching for info. I bought a 2019 XX. Like most things, I do as much wrenching as possible myself. Only 617 miles, but no issues yet. I love everything about it except the sound. A deep twin would have been preferred. The chassis and ease of access to work on it were big selling points. Of the NA models, do you have a favorite?
I've been dreaming of a Talon for some time now and will likely bite the bullet in the spring. The Honda quality and transmission were the biggest selling points.
At least with cvt trail side repairs are possible although aggravating, however when that fancy dct computer controlled transmission dies you get to walk out. In my opinion there's a lot to be said for simplicity.
I’m a Polaris owner and I’ve seen a lot of people talk trash about Polaris and Can am talking about how they’re not reliable but in my opinion they are way more fun than Honda’s my friend has a Honda and it could only go 45 miles an hour and so far I had no problems with my Polaris.Look this is my opinion but I’d rather have a fast fun machine than a slow, reliable one that’s my opinion tho thanks for reading my comment
All the people in here bashing polaris and CVTs... If your blowing belts you dont know how to operate a vehicle with a CVT. I got my first Polaris CVT ATV 13 years ago. still have it to this day, ive put over 4500 miles on it, never even came close to blowing a belt. I changed it for the first time a couple of years ago, still looked pretty good. I truly believe a CVT is the lightest and most efficient type of transmission for powersports. could you imagine a snowmobile with a gearbox? it would be as big of a joke as the big heavy 4 stroke sleds.
I’m in the market for a high horse power sxs. 104 hp on the Polaris and nothing would break. Put 181 hp on the talon and let s see how well it holds up. Don’t get me wrong, I love Honda’s, but they live in the low horse power category. That how you keep reliability up. Both awesome machines, just different categories.
Own 2 polaris - 900 trail and 1000 S4. Excellent machines. Friend has an 800 with original belt. Would indicate the miles on it but no one would believe it. Looking at a new pro or turbo S for riding here in the desert but not sure which one yet. Polaris all the way.
AZBADBOYz turbo kits are coming! And they’re absolutely amazing. Instant power. No boost lag, no waiting for spool up, then a belt to fail after trying to deliver the power. Those 190hp machines are truly putting 160 to the ground after you loose power with a CVt. DCT for the win!!
Time for a 64” na shootout xp1k,yxz,kxr,talon x,x3 na,and please don’t leave out the xx. A 6 machine shootout would be awesome to see in no other category of sxs’s have we ever had this many different machines to choose from or has there ever bean that big of a comparison logistically I know it would tuff to round them all up but it would be awesome to see you guys do it.
Personally, I'd rather have the piece of mind of the DCT transmission and not a CVT.... Also, the Honda equally equipped as possible, is about the same price as the XP PRO... granted the XP PRO is turn key. For my comfort level and preferences I'd choose a well accessorized, Talon X with the factory approved Turbo. There is also much hoopla that they the engine, turbo and transmission of the Talon are capable of pumping out much, much more power that it's "stock" mapping from Jackson Racing.
came really close to buying the talon, but ended up up with the pioneer 1k for the 5 seats and dump box.i've owned 3 honda street bikes and 3 dirt bikes and you can't beat honda quality.the paddle shifters in manual mode was the biggest selling point for me.following the owners manual and your doing your inspections will drastically cut down the chances of transmission failure.hauling in hi gear, shifting on the fly will do in the clutches eventually.it's a non issue for normal drivers.you will blow a belt on the trail, that's a given.if i were to go with a cvt,krx all the way.
Started with 2010 RZR 800 S Upgraded to the RZR 900 XP in 2013. Still have it no problems whatsoever and honestly I don’t feel the need to go any faster than that.
Based solely on where I ride and how long I expect to keep the unit, I'm going Talon X. The Pro XP is a beast but other than the extra power being nice, I'd never push it to it's full potential.
I don't know guys, there's a ton of good machines out there,I think keeping a open mind makes the market endless. If you limit yourself to a specific brand you close off other great prospects.I think the biggest aspect of a SXS is how you ride it and maintain it.If you want to tear them up you will suceed!I'm pretty sure at 57yrs old I'm a whole lot more conservative than you young bucks, neither the less my wife and I have enjoyed our first 100 miles on our pro XP!
I got my rzr 900 in 2017 and I have 3000km on it and I havent had a single problem and I hold it wide all the time I also have a 07 sportsman 800 with 5000km and only had to replace one battery
Taras in miles its like 2500 seen Yamahas and Hondas in the 5000 Miles not km on the sports man people have to change all there bushing at 1000 miles while are Honda and Yamahas go life time with the factory.. please don't tell me you have factory bushings on that sports man
I've been dealing with Honda since 1969 the same dealership and I'm not into belt knowing that Honda has gears after seeing all these great comments that I really appreciate I'm selling my 2008 1000 Varadero and my 2017
I ride a quad now, yep Honda 700XX. Everywhere I go I see folks in the SxS broken down and it's almost always a drive belt. It has always turned me off. Why such an unreliable drive line? Polaris answer is they just redesigned the belt housing for easing repairs on location. Wow! Why waste the time with that? Develop a drive system that doesn't have to be repaired mid-ride? I didn't think it would take so long for Honda to enter this market, but now that they have, it's a no brainer to me. I want something as incredibly reliable as my ATV has always been. Getting stuck and all the stuff that comes with the ride is expected. What I don't want is to be worrying about the mechanical state of these machines and if it's gonna be moving or not. With a Honda, I won't be.
PLEASE THINK FOR YOUR FUTURE,AND PLEASE NEVER MENTION WHAT THE NOTE WILL BE,WHAT U WANT IT TO BE,OR,OMG/PLEASE CAN U GET MY NOTE AT..................................SO,WHAT IM SAYING IS NEVER BUY IT UNLESS U CAN PAY CASH FOR IT. U THINK THESE 2O-35K THINGS ARE EXPENSIVE ,RIGHT?? WELL,I DO ! JUST IMAGINE WHAT U ARE GOKNG TO ACTUALLY BE PAYING FOR IT WHEN U ARE PAYING,"N O T E S!" OMG............WHAT DOES 52K-65K SOUND LIKE TO U, HOPEFULLY IT SOUNDS LIKE U WILL BE DOING THIS TIL THE DAY U DIE. SORRY YALL,I AM REALLY JUST TRYIN TO HELP!!!
My 1000x is one year old today. It's just been great with just a couple of things that I really don't like about it. First of all, why should it take 15 or 20 minutes and tools get to your air filter. That's ridiculous. My other major complaint is it really has no usable display screen. You can barely see it when you're stopped. Too much information crammed into too little space. But I love the transmission and I love the ride and I love the attention to detail.
The Talon cab was a bit small for me at 6 ft. I like all that I've seen on it otherwise. Chassis could perhaps be beefed up. The Pro XP...well, perhaps a 72" version on 32s with beadlocks from the factory for us on the West Coast? Price point kills it for me though on the top XP Pro....which is what I'd want. Not that it isn't worth it. Oh, and I'm not typically a stereo guy, but that XP Pro system with stage 2 Rockford Fosgate upgrade kicks out some serious sound.
Honda for me Just wish it had more power, more suspension travel, a good stereo, relocate the guages to behind the steering wheel, oh..and of course, I need the 4 seater for my kids 👍🏻
As a loyal Honda owner for the last 10yrs I’m in favor of the talon for the build quality and the attention to detail. Honda doesn’t just release anything without making sure it’s %100 what they want it to be. But...I traded two Honda atvs and went with the Polaris RZR XP1000 for several reasons. Price, appearance, and space mostly. I think the RZR looks better and it was also $5k less than the talon. Since the release of the talon I’ve seen some reviews of the DCT transmission where people say it doesn’t always know what gear it should be in. I was always against belt drive CVT’s but now having one I enjoy it. I think the build quality could be better on the Polaris, but for the price I’m willing to accept some flaws. I know the Honda’s will last and run longer than the Polaris there’s no doubt. But With proper maintenance any brand should last years without a major breakdown. Over 600mi now and haven’t had to fix anything. If you take care of them they’ll last. That’s Just my 2 cents guys. I enjoy watching everything dirt trax, keep up the awesome content and keep the wheel side down 😉
2700 miles on my Polaris Rock and trail XP 10000 still original belt and tires not one single issue. I’ve run nearly every moab trail in the last 2.5 years run dunes and a lot of mountain trips couldn’t be happier.
I am very impressed with both of these vehicles. I have to mention the new Kawasaki as well. I'm super impressed with that offering as well. But knowing that I will never put my 20+k investment in a position to flip or roll over, and certainly will not be launching it through the air without extreme caution I,d have to say my purchasing decision is based on quality and long term reliability, since all of these have reached a performance output that meets my expectations matching them up is fun but not my determining factor. If there was one thing I would do to alter the stock configuration is that I would put a 32x11.5xr16 tire package on each machine if it were to find its way in my garage. Now for my actual gut feeling... I actually think since I would be a more controlled driver I'd be over the top happy with either the Polaris, Honda, or Kawasaki... In a prefect world all three would have the Honda gearbox and a true locking diff in the rear with my ideal tire package. Non of these three have that. So I'm conflicted. I really like all 3... But I think the shifting satisfaction that comes with a real gearbox as opposed to the CVT or hybrid CVT with a centrifugal clutch like the New Kawasaki has I'd want the Honda but still have reservations on my choice because the all new Polaris and Kawasaki are so incredible.
These things are awesome, either one would be a blast. Of course preference on transmission will be the factor for many, myself it doesn't make to much of a difference.
I have honda, yamaha and polaris 4 wheelers. I prefer the cvt 4 wheelers but they weigh half as much as side by sides. I also have a talon, for reliability. The cvt belt takes a beating with a 2000 pound machine holding 2-4 people vs a 800-900 pound 4 wheeler with one person sitting on it. I know a guy who has a canam commander with 6500 miles and never changed the belt, but still for me if I'm investing long term into a SXS, its probably the honda although the polaris and canam are max fun until the belt blows. The walking home option is not an option I like.
Your correct about Hondas......but I bought an '18 Turbo after owning Polaris maintenance hogs for years and you would be surprised at the changes they made that are not talked about.....maintenance is almost literally down to brake pads, wheel bearings and fluids.....everything else has become tough as hell......and the low and mid power is stupifying!!!! :-)
It was a lock. I was getting the YXZ. The Talon is now a contender as well. The more I look into it the more I like the Talon. I will have to choose this spring.
@Joseph Stewart Funny thing... I ended up researching ride quality heavily. I wanted something that my wife would enjoy riding in. The pro xp actually stood out as the best ride quality that I could find. They have done a lot to improve durability, with beefier axles, a-arms basically all of the running gear and frame. I have to say that the power is nice too but unnecessary for most trail riding. I have had the polaris pro xp sport with Walker Evens shocks for two years now and have about 1500 miles on it. It has given me zero problems, I drive it very aggressively in sand dunes, fast fire road trails, and very steep long hill climbes. If I were just casual trail riding I think that I would have gone with the Honda but you really can't lose with anything that comes close to your style of riding. It's like having your own roller-coaster. Way too much fun. Hopefully that was helpful.
I've got a 2018 HL Razor with zero issues. I play hard in the mud so the Talon is out for me, but if there is an issue with the belt, 30 minutes later belts is changed and I'm back riding. What happens when the transmission on the Talon messes up? $2000 to repair the transmission? Most issues I see with the belt is larger tires, which raised the gear ratio and causes belts to heat up. I cant wait to see these Talons on 32" plus tires....then lets talk quality. jmho Yes I like the Honda too but I also like to ride all conditions.
Soo.. if you take the base model pro xp and the talon with an aftermarket turbo kit.. it's still no comparison lol. I love hondas but it seems to me they stopped leading the offroad industry around 1988. They do have great fit and finish but the competition has closed that gap alot in recent years. Legendary reliability? Well I personally know of 2 DCT equipped honda atvs that had transmission issues around 3000 miles that left their riders being towed back to camp. Anything bult by humans has the possibility for issues. That said I'm glad honda is trying and I really hope the talon lives up to the old honda reputation. Now get on with making a 1 liter atv to compete with the sportsman and Outlander already!
Work Hard. Well I plain disagree. I think ultimate reliability goes to Yamaha nowadays and the others aren't far behind. Polaris and Can-Am are the innovators.
For me it's the Honda talon, this will b my next side by side I absolutely love it. Just sold my old Yamaha rhino . It was a workhorse. But it was an 06. And it's time to update. Can't afford one yet. So I'd b stoked to win....
Within the first week of taking my Honda 1000X out I ran into one RZR XP changing a belt on the trail, and two others Polaris RZRs with overheating problems. After offering help I tore off laughing to myself with my Honda goodness.
Eddie Smith haha I would take a Honda over Polaris ANYday all day. Polaris are total junk. Their like dodge trucks. They look good have power and features but none of that matters when it’s poorly built rattles and breaks down and has issues often and cost more and is more to maintain andkero running and won’t last forever like the Honda that can take a beating and still not break down
When mud or dirt gets in the radiators anything will overheat .belts break sometimes. Honda waited to long to get in the game .underpowered. underwhelming. Subpar suspension. But keep laughing in your slow honda
That Talon is a sweet machine.. I Would love to own one but the Pro XP is definitely the next SXS in my list. I already have a Polaris Trail S that we love. But the next upgrade is a 64” small enough to go on tight trails and powerful enough to handle aggressive riding and dunes. I’ve seen the Pro XP in the dunes and it’ll destroy a Talon.
Great review , a own a Razor, sadly the belts down last when your racing them , you will smoke the belt, especially with larger tires..and guess what happens next, the talon is a great gear driven machine. I’m selling my razor for a gear driven machine.😅
Convince Polaris to up the quality and it's no comparison. Had many of their machines for years and always a squeak, rattle or something to fix. As you get older I don't want to worry about getting my machine fixed. I like Honda but would question if the 4WD system is enough. Yamaha may get my business to get the Quality and a 4WD that locks.
Honda hands down, the technology and fit and finish makes it a winner, Polaris has very low reliability and being broke down on vacation and wasting money is no fun. FYI I have a new 19’ Yamaha X2 wolverine 😂👍 love it
I have had the pleasure of working in manufacturing for both of these companies.
Wonder where the Can-am’s fit into that quality mix?

Leroy Truk no offence your breaking belts because Polaris cvt is junk that’s a fact. Try Kwai cvt built prove
Julian DiG dct is different from cvt
@beltlifematters. 🤣
any link to this belt you are refering to?
Yamaha kawa and Suzuki cvt systems work well
First off I’ve had RZRs, and I’ve had a ton of fun when I got my first XP.
Eddie Smith agreed
Hell yes. Go for it. I bought a Honda pioneer 500 and I love it. I was tired of always having problems with the Polaris.
Amen brother
roacheater AHMEN! You do what makes you happy my friend!
@@jimmysmith484 I bought the rzr 1000 turbo dynamix and I just turned 52 go for it young man !!!
deere3321 you must of been a newbie to go with Polaris. been in the game for about 20 years and also a very mechanically inclined person Honda and Yamaha are the way to go
I have a 2012 Wildcat 1000 I purchased new, over 3000 miles on it, and love it! But recently bought a Talon X, all I can say is wow, the transmission changes everything, I love being able to control the rpm, and the engine braking is great, downside is ride quality, the Talon has a very firm ride, even with the shocks set to the softest setting, I have a Shock Therapy spring set ordered, anxiously waiting to get them installed!,
As a Polaris stock holder, I ended up buying the Honda Talon 1000R. I just don't want to deal with CVT belts and recalls.
Same here.
good riddance
Polaris is faster, it’s more powerful, it looks better, it rides more comfortable, it sells more. Honda is good for poor people tho.
How do you find out about the recalls? I have a 2014 XP1000 and the thing has tons of problems.
@@erichkaufmann5284 hahahah you are an idiot wow.....!!
I went with the TalonR. Does every thing I want it to.
Amen to that. That should become a reality
exactly compare turbo to non turbo is stupid
cybermavrik very true and to add- the comparison should be done with the R Model Honda..... width seems to be the comparison basis and it leaves Honda at a disadvantage on high speed runs. 👍🏽
agree...
Test drove a talon x at trailfest this year in Gilbert wv. I was really impressed with the suspension and the build quality.
Ryan Jones if the talon suspension impressed you then you would think yzx or cat xx is next level
Maverick suspension is great! Just not the belts also the talon RR is the lightest side by side at around 1500 Pounds
Rather have a really durable side by side so I rather have the talon
I'd get the talon, I like the option of choosing the gear I want to be in.
If you're gonna buy Polaris, make sure your dealer has a great service department. It's going to need it.
Jarret Fink that is definitely unusual. I wouldn’t be happy either
Love our Talon. Honda’s are damn hard to kill and the transmission is fantastic. That’s all it took to sell me.
I liked this comparison video. Personally, between these two models, I would go with the Honda Talon X !!!
I have the talon on 35 and it’s still has really good get up and go it beats are rzr on 35 all day
No way an talon would keep up with a Rzr Pro.
Awesome! Love hearing a real owner's experience! Thanks for sharing!!
I just brought a 2019 RZR 1000 XP Rock & Trail. I took it to a race track and it was a blast will be testing it out in march in the hills of Arkansas. I had a RZR 800s and ran hard never had any problems.
How did it go?
I want to see all the 1000 sport SxS go head to head. Personally i'm liking the new Teryx 1000
One thing is for sure about the Teryx 1000.... It looks like a damn beast!
Great video as always. RZR for me. Nothing against the honda but where I ride, ground clearance and suspension is king (for me).
Talon for sure. I have the new Pioneer 1000-5 and love the paddle shifters...especially in sport mode!
I'm getting the Talon just because of the DCT transmission.
same here.
Me aswell, Polaris doesn’t have a good track record for reliability at all. Honda is the king and whenever they give us a new big bore sport atv they will dominate
Yea but te talon doesn’t have much horse and the rzr looks better with more power
Loath Vision power doesn’t mean anything if you can’t put it through the trans to the ground
Micheal Gray power has some what if a lot to do tbh
No one ever talks about part throttle cruising in these, with the honda it goes into high gear and feels calm with low revs, on a cvt weather your doing 15 mph or 60 mph that thing is revving at a much higher rpm and always feels high strung. Honda all day for me.
Very true, but I love the sound. I've got the yxz1000r and usually have the rpms up anyway. Always ready for a drift
I’d like to see the Talon with a true locker, live valve suspension and a 9+ gallon fuel tank.
2020 Talon x4!
@@mzwak2001 who wants a 4 seater. Lame

Honda with the turbo. Reliability and plenty of power.
@The Insufferable Tool there is a turbo for the Honda. 168 hp. Put on at the dealership.
I'd go honda talon. Have a yxz and wife has an x3 xmr turbo. Just love that geared transmission.
Honda all that way. I hate having changing belts on my mind when I ride.
I’ve had the oem belt on my rzr 800 and my 6x6 big boss 800efi. The big boss has 8500 hard miles of going sideways and the rzr is rocking 30” tractor tires with a clutch kit.
Rzr has 2005 miles and is from 08. The high boss is from 2011z
Franky Alvarez a talon can run 33s stock
I am interested in buying the talon for sure for what we will be using it for
whats the difference on maintaince on the 2 and replacement cost of the cvt cluches verses the trans on the honda if both were to fail ?
I mean, you can't break a dct transmission the electronics will go first so it won't allow you to use it 😁
Overall I really like my X.
Great idea! This is something we'll work on for upcoming comparisons.
We all Win!
Awesome and congrats!!

I have a 1000-5 pioneer and I love knowing I will never be stranded because I forgot to bring a spare belt (plus it's a Honda). Honda all the way!
At least with cvt trail side repairs are possible although aggravating, however when that fancy dct computer controlled transmission dies you get to walk out. In my opinion there's a lot to be said for simplicity.
Talon rear suspension buck like a MTF , and 100hp for this price is madness. Its almost 30k in Canada.
Agreed. How you ride it and how you maintain it are huge factors in how it will last.
Got the 4dr..talon more than happy..floating all over the rim in payson az. Did 230 miles my 1st weekend out.

@@davemartens3652 still much better than Polaris
I agree polaris all day. They keep my bills paid. Buy buy buy. 😁
Sign me up for the Honda but i need BOOST!
I’m going for the talon. I like the reliability of the Honda
Which one is the best? How about the Kawasaki against the Polaris? Honda against the RZR is like toilet paper against just fingers.
I would love to have either, but my vote goes to Honda
Started with 2010 RZR 800 S Upgraded to the RZR 900 XP in 2013. Still have it no problems whatsoever and honestly I don’t feel the need to go any faster than that.
Based solely on where I ride and how long I expect to keep the unit, I'm going Talon X. The Pro XP is a beast but other than the extra power being nice, I'd never push it to it's full potential.
Great way of looking at it...if you wont be using it to its potential then the Honda will last longer...good call
Other than all the sub trans issues and very crappy suspension on the Honda
I don't know guys, there's a ton of good machines out there,I think keeping a open mind makes the market endless. If you limit yourself to a specific brand you close off other great prospects.I think the biggest aspect of a SXS is how you ride it and maintain it.If you want to tear them up you will suceed!I'm pretty sure at 57yrs old I'm a whole lot more conservative than you young bucks, neither the less my wife and I have enjoyed our first 100 miles on our pro XP!
Thanks for commenting!!
Give me the Honda, trouble free riding for years is my preference, even though I prefer cvt but Polaris quality is not there yet.
I got my rzr 900 in 2017 and I have 3000km on it and I havent had a single problem and I hold it wide all the time
I also have a 07 sportsman 800 with 5000km and only had to replace one battery

Taras in miles its like 2500 seen Yamahas and Hondas in the 5000 Miles not km on the sports man people have to change all there bushing at 1000 miles while are Honda and Yamahas go life time with the factory.. please don't tell me you have factory bushings on that sports man

I've been dealing with Honda since 1969 the same dealership and I'm not into belt knowing that Honda has gears after seeing all these great comments that I really appreciate I'm selling my 2008 1000 Varadero and my 2017
Talon looks like it will work very well for me!
I would choose the talon for the build quality and attention to detail!!
I'm looking at the YXZ1000R SS LE right now but the TALON 1000X is looking pretty good too!
The difference in price will make the payments on the Talon for a year. Just sayin'

Both great machines but I'm still planning on purchasing the can am maverick sport x xc 1000r this spring. . Love your videos!
I have the can am turbo rr xds had a Polaris. Can-am is 1000% better
Honda for me
Just wish it had more power, more suspension travel, a good stereo, relocate the guages to behind the steering wheel, oh..and of course, I need the 4 seater for my kids 👍🏻
I enjoy watching everything dirt trax, keep up the awesome content and keep the wheel side down 😉
Great comment! Reach out to us through our website! I think we may have a T-shirt in your size!!
2700 miles on my Polaris Rock and trail XP 10000 still original belt and tires not one single issue. I’ve run nearly every moab trail in the last 2.5 years run dunes and a lot of mountain trips couldn’t be happier.
Looks like I've made my decision...belts are made to keep your pants up,not for off road fun...I'm going with the Talon!
Talon X is what I would like to try
I would buy the honda for sure and either way I'd take the geared transmission over the cvt.
current owner of an 2019 xp 1000 and i would take the xp pro no doubt
I will pick the Honda I think it’s a smooth looking machine I think you’d be what I would need it is awesome
Never had an issue with our Polaris and Honda's both very reliable and dependable I would choose both if had the chance and funds
I have had a few razors but I think I would like to try the Honda. From weed whacker‘s to four wheelers, they have always made great products.
What did you end up going with? And how do you like it?
DCT all the way I got the Africa twin and the talon x and a six year warranty 😀
That xp is one sick looking machine, I love it.
Soo.. if you take the base model pro xp and the talon with an aftermarket turbo kit.. it's still no comparison lol.
Brian Schuler it still leads and reliable and some people care for that over power
Work Hard. Well I plain disagree. I think ultimate reliability goes to Yamaha nowadays and the others aren't far behind. Polaris and Can-Am are the innovators.
For me it's the Honda talon, this will b my next side by side
I absolutely love it.
Honda for the DCT and reliability.
