I just Picked up a 19' Honda Talon 1000R used with 50 miles for $16K. I'm here in WestVirginia and we drive all the old Coal Mine and Logging roads. It does everything you want and soaks up all the bumps. I'm half throttling this thing on the trails so 105hp is plenty. You can always spend more cash.
It’s a power to weight ratio of 1hp to 16 lbs. worse than my Honda Civic. Fine for trails but climbing steep dunes is something else. My 40hp dirt bike struggled with some dunes and that’s 11lbs per hp. My 50hp 450 had zero issues and that’s 9lbs per hp. . Crawling and trails you don’t need more than 50hp to be honest. It’s the wide open desert and dune running that requires awesome suspension and power.
@@KTMcaptain I think you forgot both the manual/automatic gearing of the honda talon as well as the low range. Dropping down 1 gear would make a huge difference. I haven't driven one but it should be amazing in the dunes. I believe max speed in low is 50mph.
@@factionfx gearing doesn’t make up for power. In fact, gearing can make up for not enough engine torque but it cannot make up for power. Trust me, my car is slow, it has low gearing, low end turbo torque, and a manual for efficiency. It’s too slow for the dunes. . In the sand low range gearing will make you sink. Wheel speed and power is the only thing sand respects, well alongside pressure from weight and tire surface area. . You don’t need much power to rock climb, but you do need a lot to dune and run through the desert. Duning takes a lot of power to keep afloat the sand and desert running requires a power to affect the attitude of the vehicle over obstacles. For example, you’re heading into a whoops section at 70mph you want to accelerate and shift the weight to the rear. You need power to do this effectively. You also need power to keep the speed up when the tires only contact 10% of the ground running over whoops. . A dirt bike can get away with low power in the desert because 40% of the weight can be shifted around, but in the dunes a weak dirt bike is the worst and requires tons of momentum and commitment by the rider. After 1 dune session in glamis I sold my 40hp dirt bike because it didn’t have the power for duning. It did fine on small dunes with more moisture, aka pismo beach dunes, but in glamis it was over 10,000 rpm everywhere and constantly lost steam up hills. . Can it dune, sure. But it will be at full tilt the entire time and won’t be cresting dune transitions with authority and the driver better know what they’re doing to keep it from getting stuck.
@@KTMcaptain Thanks for the detailed reply. I think we ride the dunes at way different skill levels and speeds. I would imagine you could dune a lot better in a 100hp talon than you could in a 100hp polaris just because you have the ability to keep the talon always be at 8000 rpm. With the polaris you have no choice. I've ridden in the dunes so do understand the power requirements. My machines (polaris atvs) barely make it up the little sahara in oklahoma at 30mph...and you're talking about hitting the tops with 50-70mph with power left over

jpk0612 yeah I was like am I hearing him right, cause on a dirt bike nothing can keep up with bikes on just about any trail! A muddy ass trail is about the only exception! Brapp
Right, I use to bomb trails in my 450 excr at 100mph in some sections. Run 50-60 mph of nasty whoops. And fly down washboard roads these sxs dudes call whoops at 80mph easy. . 260 lbs + rider, 13” of suspension, 50hp, and the ability to move weight around make dirt bikes so fast. Not to mention the ability to chose any line that is 4” wide or larger.
I think it depends on the driver these new side by sides are capable of doing 95 mph and 0-60 in literally 4.1 seconds and the live valve suspension maneuvers corners like crazy. If you have someone that can drive a sxs pretty well it would keep up with a bike easily.
LOL.. Ya'd never take it through a freshy cut Woods operation here in Eastern Canada. The little sticks would take out that intake and CV boots right fast!! We've seen the dealers bring in Machine with rocks Stuck up in beside the front rad and rubbing through. We need an Armored up version here. Not a desert machine but more a Skidder, rock crawling type machine.
X3... can’t see over the hood easily... I’m 6’2” and out the seat as far back as possible, but needs another notch or two. The front radiator is hot. The belt whines too much in high. Low winds out the motor going a few rpm. The locker is nasty how it gets insane grip crawling and opens up on fast trails. The power is excellent. Bypass shocks can eat whole boulders without much fuss. . I hate the cvt at low speeds in high, especially on the street, but it’s quick with putting power down and moving.
Hey TFL...how did you get past the travel ban in Moab? Where did you stay since you aren't allowed to spend the night in Grand County or Emery County? I live in Utah, and we had a club ride scheduled in Moab this weekend, but it got cancelled by the southern Utah health dept.
I'm guessing this was filmed a couple weeks ago and just got posted today. Plus I'm not sure what the rules are for Utah right now but hotels and anything involving groups might be cancelled but doesn't necessarily prevent you from going out on your own if you don't need a hotel or anything.
@@Greg-wz7fk No. Grand, Carbon, and Emery Counties have shut down all campgrounds to all persons unless you are working in there, or unless you are a primary resident of those counties. Basically, you can drive to Moab for the day, but you better have plans to leave the county before nightfall. And it will be that way for 30 days.
Wow! Nice review. I want your job! Seriously though. What are your thoughts on the belt vs Hondas new direct drive system? I love Honda, but man, Polaris loads these things up nicely for about the same price. Tough decision.
Nice toy! IF I had the money and terrain/weather for it, it would be on my list based off this review. Granted Tommy makes a better point for those not in ideal weather/terrain situations which is for that price one could have a very nice road legal jeep with the roof, space for more gear and of course the luxuries like heater/AC, windshield..etc. lol Then you can go anywhere, not just on an open air adventure.
ATV’s and SxS’s were meant to be reasonably cheap off road fun. Buying something that needs to be trailered for almost 30k sounds like a dumb decision. Especially when a new Jeep can be bought for the same money. I have a Can Am Maverick trail I paid 13k for and it can do most of the stuff that this thing can do. And with a few thousand in upgrades or stepping up to the Maverick sport I bet it can be out done for far less money. It’s still pretty nice tho haha.
sorry man but they were never meant to be cheap, they came from the ATV world which are much cheaper and people want more and more so prices have cone up with the capability. there are just things you can am will not do that the pro xp can. you might make it there like in a jeep but if you are 20 minutes behind your friend and sore then was it worth saving the money?
I could buy a used car and a good 1000cc four wheeler for this money. But at the same time this will keep up with some trophy trucks andwith improved capability.

I'm a polaris fan and I think the pro is a bummer rear springs are crap, doors are crap, all the plastic is crap. If you're in the market get an xp turbo over one of these or if width doesn't matter the Turbo S.
I will say this depends on where you’re riding and your riding style. Tight trails and woods with mud most definitely the pro xp. Open flat trails and dunes the x3 for sure. In my opinion the pro xp is the more capable machine the x3 only beats it in speed but not by much and honestly I think the pro xp gets its boost at a better time than the x3 the boost in the x3 hits too soon in my opinion you want the boost to hit in the more mid too high end. I have drove both machines the x3 turbo rr is actually what I own, but I loved my friends pro xp it just whooped freaking ass on tight corners and rocks the suspension in that thing is just incredible I was going over rocks at like 50mph and didn’t feel a thing.

"A side by side can do it twice as fast than a motorcycle." lol maybe for the way you ride old timer...
jpk0612 yeah I was like am I hearing him right, cause on a dirt bike nothing can keep up with bikes on just about any trail! A muddy ass trail is about the only exception! Brapp
Lol just check the times on the Baja 1000! Motocross guys have finished in the top ten overall every single time. Never seen a sxs do that
Lmao ya exactly.
Not a desert machine but more a Skidder, rock crawling type machine.
you can drive on the streets in Arizona as well
Thought you was gonna do some rock crawling with it. Imo, they are all too damn high
Nothing better than some self appointed city slicker experts...
We are going to do some social Distancing this memorial day weekend can’t wait
I would love to have one!! but out my prize range...awesome! review thank you for sharing
You only had to trailer it because you didn't make it street legal. We drive them on the street in UT. In moab for now at least.
Do a Can-am x3 review
Joelitorjr I’m pretty sure they are being paid by Polaris
X3... can’t see over the hood easily...
My Suzuki samurai can do all of this at a waaaaaaaaaay cheaper price.
Even at that, they have limited camps to be 200 feet apart which is nearly impossible to do. Basically, you can drive to Moab for the day, but you better have plans to leave the county before nightfall. And it will be that way for 30 days.
utah wanderlust700 Shot a couple weeks ago
Why people buy SxS at this price I will never understand. Keep buying at this price they will keep making them even pricier.
Wow! Nice review. I want your job! Seriously though. What are your thoughts on the belt vs Hondas new direct drive system? I love Honda, but man, Polaris loads these things up nicely for about the same price. Tough decision.
Anything besides polaris. Mines a piece of crap
What kind of review were you expecting from someone who's getting pay for it.
If you think a jeep can do half of this… u smoking drugs… this is something special…
Which one is better, the RZR pro or Mawerick
I could buy a used car and a good 1000cc four wheeler for this money. But at the same time this will keep up with some trophy trucks andwith improved capability.
Side by sides are Destroying Dirtbike single trail all over Utah and Nevada. Our single trails are wide as roads now and there is Litter trash from food and beer every where.
Rather ride a GSA or any adventure bike, door to door, no truck, no trailer, way more fun!
when u miss the mud holes your only having half the fun
My maverick X3 MAX X RS TURBO RR with all the options and everything was $37,258 with the tax.
ps4 gamertag T_guns2448 dam that’s a lot I paid 33k otd for a 2018 can am x3 max Xrs which at that time was the top of the line trim
@@Tony_HH I also got a plow as a $1,100 option and most of the other options to.
Finding it strange, at that prize, glove compartment, seats etc looks more like coming from a cheap toy.
If cars were similarely price, the cheapest cars would start at 150k dollar.
And thats why you buy a x3
Great review.
$28k....Nope not a chance.
Picachuu 3 want to know why I have more money than you? Because I don’t spend it on overpriced toys....
W R it’s not a toy
Echo Space ok....it’s a Barbie doll.
In East TN, everyone has one of these...they must all be in debt. Look up royal blue
Please keep an eye out for us dirt bikers : )
Do you think it would climb Hamburger Hill & the other tough ones toward the end of Kane Creek?
We have been Down cane creek multiple times in a two seat and four seat RZR and those hills are not difficult they are way more capable than people realize.
The tires dont last, just a heads up for anyone buying one. I would imagine if you are in soft dirt they will last longer.
Good review
love the car and truck reviews, not sure you guys should be doing SXS reviews... the dude in Canada should have reviewed it...JMO.:)
Wanting one doesn’t mean I’ll ever hand over $30k for a toy, that I don’t need, but want.
I still don’t understand why somebody who obviously likes what is a great machine would tittle there video in a way to make people think there is something wrong with it.
I'm a polaris fan and I think the pro is a bummer rear springs are crap, doors are crap, all the plastic is crap. If you're in the market get an xp turbo over one of these or if width doesn't matter the Turbo S.
Can am x3 xrs RR is the way to go. But it's a utv so apple samsung its preference.
Why does anybody use "dry weights", you can't run it without oil and anti-freeze in it so what's the point?
James McCausland because States like mine base their Classification based Dry Weight of a ORV.
Nice looking machine but I wonder how hard it is to get parts for this... as have a polaris sportsman wheeler that is VERY hard to get parts for as the professional stores cannot seem to understand what parts you need, and keep ordering us the wrong things.... so it sits like a lawn ornament :( Everything breaks, IF you use it.... should be able to get parts easily so our fun machines aren't sitting for months....
Styling took a step back imo.
Should of had that guy from Canada do this review lol
horses for courses.. base model is 20k, you could easy sink that, and 12 months into a truck build and it still not be as capable as these.. at least here in there UK anyways.. and some folk can't build, or don't have time anymore so it's an out of the box solution. I sold my built 4 runner for one of these, still not pulled the trigger though 😒
$1500 less, full doors and a roof, then maybe I would have considered it.
Mike Martin any SXS you buy you won’t get a roof unless you buy one
learn to negotiate at the dealer, sticker price is for suckers.
@@joeyschultz3774 wrong.
28k for a something you cant drive on the road in most states and to bad only the wealthy can afford this by the time your normal everyday working individual can get one of these used there ragged out. Polaris WTF are you thinking with these prices.
omg!! traded the 19 Turbo S for the 22 Pro xp ultimate black crystal 😁
I didn't watch the video, I'm going off the title.
NO toy is WORTH 20,000 dollars!!
You can build a decent full size truck to take off road for 20,000 dollars!!
I have a nice home. I WANT a Honda talon. I refuse to buy one because of the price!
PEOPLE stop paying the price for these utvs and watch the Price's drop!! Trust me if you don't buy it they won't charge what they do for these vehicles!!
I have walked out of a dealership many times because I didn't like the salesman's price!!!
Knowledge is power...
But yet here you are without one
@@kidamere2408 yeah because that 20k for a toy is going towards the down payment of my Corvette....
@@philllsxga.7737 ok then why are you worried about the price of a sxs
@@kidamere2408 that's a toy! I can drive my Vette anytime I want and anywhere I want!!!
You can turn a full size Chevy Silverado w a V8 into a prerunner for around 8 thousand dollars, have a V8, take your buddies and family in it , daily drive it, have AC, heat and beat on it for less than a UTV!!
It's called knowing the value of a dollar!!!
A dirty B's prerunner suspension kit starts around 2,800 dollars! I've been researching them. And you can daily drive it a tow with it!!
@@kidamere2408 because there absolutely ridiculous and their praying on people to over extend themselves. I guarantee it doesn't cost half of what their asking for one of these machines.
Let's see the caman x3
I’m pretty sure they are being paid by Polaris
😂 the oh SH*T bar 5:12
You could drive it to work in most states its street legal
“better than the old outgoing model” What???
The Xp platform just got a new makeover in 19. The Xp pro is a new platform. So it's not going away anytime soon.
The XP pro is a new platform it didn’t replace anything
5:12 why is it called an "O-bar"?
Is they why the bird sound effect ?
Joseph Cherian oh shit bar.
Fun to ride but a waste of money! Had rzr in past. Will never spend my money on any of them again. Lesson learned for me! 😂👍👍👍
Brian Keenan You have to pay to play with these machines, it’s not a cheap hobby to get into and maintain. It definitely isn’t for everyone.
I'll stick to my sport quads. I follow SxS anywhere but deep mud, and I don't like rock crawling :-)
So when can i see an LS on rzr?
tuff
I was going to sell mine before the new models arrived so I wouldn't take such a big hit, but these are so ugly I won't need to worry about that.
This guys probably didn’t have a childhood!!!🤣
Jesus the markup on these is sickening you can't tell me that is $28,000 worth of parts.
Why getting a new one if I can wait a year to get me one for $13k
Sorry, but that’s not gonna happen haha maybe $20,000-$22,000. Side by sides hold value very very well...
Just out of curiosity how fast does it go?
Over 80 mph.
Pro xp probably about 89-91. Turbo rr x3 can do about 95-97mph
Pro xps 0-60 is about 4.7 seconds x3 is about 4.2
Don't want to get dirty, have to have a stereo, have to have a bunch of electronic BS to find your way back? Used to be a time we went out to get away from all that crap! Save the $30k and $5k on the trailer before you break anything (You and the machine) and go get you a little hottie that will help you spend your money. You might even want to get a manicure since you don't like to play in the dirty old mud and water....
Again with the calling it 5,000lbs. Tommy said that thing weighs about 1800lbs. So you're claiming that trailer is 3200lbs.
That makes it 200lbs heavier than my dad's OLD 14k rated equipment trailer.
Show me your CAT ticket. Scale the truck and trailer then scale the truck by itself. Subtract the truck from the combination and we'll know for sure.
2900 before spare tire was added, 3000 lbs with spare
@@TFLoffroad Scale it and show me.
This is an odd thing to be so upset over
@@rondavis3232 How do you figure "upset?"
Don't we like accuracy?
@@dchawk81 It seems to be a fair estimate to me. The website for this trailer (if I looked it up right) shows a 20' deck unit weighing 2960. If it is a shorter unit more like 2700, but still within Roman's estimate when spare, fluids in the SxS and such is added. www.norstarcompany.com/EQ14.cfm
If you want accuracy, a RUclips channel designed for entertainment may not be the best choice either way.
Looks like fun. Definitely over priced though....then the need for a truck, trailer, etc. Just get a Jeep.
Since I bought my Tacoma for $27k... my answer is, "Are you insane?!?!?"...
apples and oranges
@@tristanhipps604 no doubt. Price tags on side-by-sides will never make sense to me tho.
@@crawdad7305 yeah it's ridiculously overpriced, but I feel like rzrs are made for high speed off-roading.
I would NOT pay $28,000.00 for a side X side, especially a POLARIS!
What type of beer is that? Lol
