Great video thank you for taking the time to show us the easiest way including how to bleed.
I have no idea if you actually know what you're talking about, but you're damned entertaining.
I did the thing, and the stuff.
Thanks for the excellent instructional video, you helped me save $400 in labor, appreciate it!!!
I have a 2012 Edge with stiff brakes. I took it to TireDiscounters today and that gave me a quote of $1700.00 to replace the brake booster and master cylinder, because they said they would have to take half the motor apart to get the master cylinder out. After watching your video, me thinks someone is wanting to take me for a ride. The master cylinder isn't leaking, I added very little brake fluid a couple of months ago and the fluid level hasn't changed. I believe my problem is the booster.
There is a check valve in the vacuum line. If you run the car, fill the booster with vacuum, shut the car off, and unplug the line from the booster, after the check valve, you should hear an audible hissing noise. If you do not, the booster diaphragm is probably leaking. You can also use a vacuum tester. You are probably correct. It's a common problem on these.
Yeah, it definitely sounds like someone wanted to take you for a ride. My comment may be late lol, but I’m glad you were able to save money.
LOL 8:05 in video. "Real men don't use instructions" as he is making an instructional video that men are primarily watching.
Thank you though, this video helped tremendously.
Great video and I’ve definitely learned something new. I’m trying to troubleshoot my 2011 Edge since I’m losing brake fluid pretty fast. I’ve got underneath it and only see fluid on the ground about center mass between front and rear tire, but closer to the drivers side. Seems to be leaking from that fiberglass shielding which I don’t understand 🤷🏿♂lol. Anyways, thanks again for sharing your knowledge ✊🏿💯💪🏿
Probably a rear brake line.
Thank you!! this helped me out a lot
Thank you sir
Good video, I would removed the battery tray for even better access, 3 x ten mm bolts /nuts, good time to hit the tray with some baking soda to neutralize the battery acid.
Mexican instructions 😂😅😂 I’m Mexican and that was funny so I’m subscribing now
Thank you
Hi There... I've been hearing a hissing sound when I apply the brakes for a while now. It has progress to difficulty stopping and now abs kicks in at low speeds before stopping... Is this the brake booster and ABS sensor? I own a 2013 Edge
If it kicks in at low speeds, it may have a speed sensor that is not reading correctly.
I have same symptoms, what problem did you have?
I’m currently in the process of replacing my brake booster in my ‘13 Edge and I was trying my best to do it without removing the cylinder but it’s looking more and more like I’m going to need to pull it out. Is this method of bleeding pretty full proof? Love your vids man
Yes
could you put those extra hoses on the lines and have them point up instead of bending them?
I make sure they go up for bleeding, or air will become trapped in the line when I bleed it.
I’m trying to figure out this is the problem on my 2007. The brakes work they are just mushy is heck.
Same problem. Ended up being a ABS unit malfunction.
@@RustBeltAuto Confirmed, did a few runs standing on the brake petal and we are firm again.
You should've disconnected the battery first. 😂
Do u happen to remember what the symptoms were I have a edge brakes goto floor will work if u pump them and loosing fluid slowly but can't find the leak

Like this? This is why i replaced that master, and did not fix the problem.
@@RustBeltAuto im gonna give it a shot i absolutely hate the brake system on this car lol I nailed the brakes going forward and abs didn't activate and no abs lights so im going to give this a shot and see if it helps
What’s the apprx cost of having this done at a shop? I think ours might need replacing but rest of the car has been great & we were hoping to let our 16 yr old have it for a year (or a few lol) til we could get him a newer car. Thanks!
I don't know.
I was quoted $600 for parts and install. This is a great video at proving I need to “pay the man”.
Did I hear you say that the pin is a reverse thread torques?
I dont think so?
so my break booster is newer..put new calipers on the back..new pads on front, bled brraks twice...still really spoongy..idk what to do next...help? thank u!
Activate ABS. I did it in reverse, and hit brakes hard in gravel road a couple times. It came up.
Brake control module. Very $$$
When did Ford start using metric nuts?
Ford started sleeping with Mazda in 1974. Can probably start there.
Those dust caps better hold when your bleeding the master cylinder or you will have brake fluid everywhere
I use the vise to squish them in there. It may leak a little, but there not going anywhere.
What is the name of the lines that came out of the master cylinder? I’m needing to get one replaced and I cannot find the name of it. PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!!!
You wrecked the brake line? You are going to need to make a new line.
Alright cool. I didn’t know if it was a specific line I needed. Thanks for letting me know lol
Have you replaced a hydraulic control unit on a 2011 Edge? Your videos are great!
I have not. Replacing HCU'S is a rare thing. With the exception of the modules, they very rarely go bad. This one did have a problem, but it fixed it's self by me activating the ABS, and it decided to work right again.
@@RustBeltAuto I have replaced on HCU - Its a nightmare to get at the bolts. I put in a used Ebay one.
I was thinking if the dealer got this it would be a $1500 job to replace HCU and master.
I had a booster leak first - you could hear it like a balloon losing air - plus I did have soft pedal. Booster was warranty - I did master - did not fix soft pedal. But It did have abs codes before and now they were gone after HCU . I know air gets in the HCU. I have done the grenade brakes to activate the abs - Nice trick. But I ended up with a Foxwell amazon code reader that has ABS functions. It has abs bleed procedures.
Would like to know the same as I have same issue that is intermittent and I had the caliper lock up on me
when using hose like u talk bout if u give it a few seconds and 1/8 to 1/4 of a inch below level of fuild u wouldnt pull air back in
How do you know if the master cylinder is bad? I ask because I’m pretty sure my brake booster is shot. Don’t know if I’ll need to replace both. Thanks!
Brake boosters are bad when they don't hold vacuum. Bad masters usually leak. Sometimes the seals don"t seal internally, and brake pressure passes through them. Sometimes the seals swell, and plug the compensating ports, keeping brake pressure on, but that is very rare. This POS didn't need a master. It had a problem with the ABS. After I replaced it, and bled the brakes, I ran the car in reverse at about 15 MPH on a gravel road and grenaded the brakes activating the ABS a couple times, and my problem magically went away.
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me. I certainly hope now that my problem is just the booster! It’s taken me 2 days and tons of blood sweat & tears to get that damn thing out. I finally had to just take it apart by prying the seams open while still tangled amongst everything else! Now to get the new one in!!!
Managed to get the new one in, everything back together and it works. It was the booster!!
Hi!
I have a question, a bad master cylinder can cause the brakes get stick, when I’m driving seems like I am pressing the brake pedal, I stop and sometimes the front sometimes the rear breaks smell like burning and they are hot, I press the pedal many times and the brakes release. Do you think is bad master cylinder?
Thanks!
Probably not. Need to pull in the caliper pistons. Make sure they go in easy, and make sure the brake pads are not stuck into the caliper support brackets. If you have a master cylinder, or flexible brake hose issue, the brakes will free up when you open the bleeder screw. Pressure will come out of it.
Rust Belt Auto Thank you!!! For your quick response, I will check the calipers, pistons and caliper support, I hope it fix my problem.
Thank you!!! 🙏
@@fdomh3644 welcome
I changes my mass cylinder but still I got the same prblm .. abs is good I checked
This truck had a stuck valve in the ABS unit.
Can a brake booster from a 2013 fit on a 2008?
My sources say 2011-2014.
What symptoms did you have to detect a master cylinder failure?
It had pedal fade. Didn't fix the problem, but I did a video on it anyways.
@@RustBeltAuto Hi, if you don’t mind my asking: why didn’t it fix the problem? Thanks
@@sandrosantiago2736 because the abs unit has a valve or something that sticks in those cars.
@@RustBeltAuto hydraulic control unit im told
@@terrycampbell2037 probably. I drove this thing in reverse on gravel at about 15 mph, and mashed the brakes to activate the ABS a couple times, after all this, and bleeding brakes, and the problem has been gone ever since.
Are you from minisoooooooouda? 😅
@@Just0ke possibly
How much did the part cost? From where?
Any parts store has them.
@@RustBeltAuto tools you needed?
all ones i see of k&n filters come oiled and all ones i ve heard of is got oil on them so dont oil nee ones freash out the box. theyll probably wash it and put it in dry or its a cheap knock off look alike dont assume its a k&n just cuss looks like one. the problem lays with oil filters is ppl use to much oil on them then mess with mass air flow senor
The problem is they filter like crap, because if you look at them through the light, you can see pin holes in them everywhere. It looked really dry. The dirt needs to stick to the sticky oil, because they filter like crap. those things dirty up a MAF no matter what you do with them. I made my bro clean it, put a new coat of oil on it, and cleaned the MAF, as you should when you run that crap. Thanks for watching!
@@RustBeltAuto not all i seen that arent that way whay i tryim say and some like thay are oil less but goes back age old sayin u pay for what u get u buy a cheap filter/part it not goim work will
@@homecyber32283 K&N is a cheap filter. Paper filters are the best. No manufacturer is stupid enough to put a filter like that in a car off the assembly line.
They use paper filter because they’re cheap , what are you talking about ,
Yes.
Bro you need to bleed the ttubes
Air works its way up. Either there is air in it, and it needs to be bled out, or it doesn't. In this case, all the air was bled out, with no extra steps.
