Just got these after moving on from my MP33’s which I love…but can no longer hit like before. Planning for the next stage of my golfing life as I turn 60 in a few months. Switching to graphite and forgiveness. Literally found these in the used section at the local shop. Orange Dot 2 degrees flat caught my eye. Hit the solid on the launch monitor, so I bought them and took to the range today. Even better at the range off grass. Also hit some MP225’s in the shop that felt much better, but went with the consistent results and couldn’t be happier!
Another informative and honest review. I too would like to see a comparison between the G425 and the JPX921 hot metal irons. I like to try different irons but I always return to Mizunos. I’m currently playing the JPX921 hot metal and love them. I’m a lefty and unfortunately Mizuno doesn’t have a lot of options for left handers that aren’t single digit golfers but I’m completely happy with the hot metals so I don’t need any options. I always enjoy your in-depth coverage of everything you test. Thanks
I have an old set of G25 irons. Wondering if you would do an old vs new comparison to see difference in launch, spin and so on. Also do all iron heads weigh about the same and is there difference in how they are balanced across the brands?
Let’s go on the 410 v 425! Could not agree more about not being able to move Ping clubs as fast as others. Took the G425 Max vs my Cobra Speedzone driver on Trackman and the Ping was consistently 3mph slower. It should also be noted that all of Pings stock shaft offerings are counter balanced shafts as well. I’m curious to know your opinion on that type of shaft.
I've tried (for a bit of fun) putting a non counter balanced shaft in a Ping driver and it does feel pretty heavy to swing 😊 Even with counter balancing the range of stock option shafts do have different feels so is well worth testing. Understanding where the head is relative to your swing is essential for getting the head back square at impact 👍
@@AskGolfNut I did (for a bit of fun) some tinkering with the G425 Max. Using my kitchen food scale I weighed the head for my cobra driver and it turns out it is 17g lighter than the Max head. I then removed the tungsten weight out of the G425 max and weighed it, it came in at 29g, it is supposed to be 26 g. I then took the driver to my local big box golf store where my friend is one of the fitters there. I asked him if we could swap the rear weight from the LST driver (16g) into the max driver and it absolutely transformed the performance of the Max!
Performance definitely but it'll be interesting to see how off centre hits perform on a foresight system where we can measure drop offs etc. Also I'm assuming the head speed then came back up to normal?
@@Golfdad68 Played a round today, clubs felt really nice - still getting use to the change in lofts with the long irons, but overall felt really nice. I plan on activating the arccos grips the next time I play, Thursday, to see how it all works.
Great review as always. Hoping to get my first custom fit set of irons at the end of this year when my swing is a bit more consistent and these are at the top of my list! Would you recommend getting the matching wedges (UW, GW & LW) to this set or going got speciality wedges e.g. glide 3.0s? What I be gaining/losing by going for one over the other? Thanks.
They both have the hydro Pearl finish which enhances wet spin. Matter of personal preference. Next year I’ll be going For a custom fit. I’ll be looking at combo set of i210’s (8 iron thru AW) with i500’s or G425’s from 7 iron thru 5 iron. Or maybe just a full set of i210s (5-AW) with Glide 3.0’s in 54 & 58. I will see how things pan out in the custom fit
Hi Steve, definitely agree with the JPX921 HM compare but I've got a little bee in my bonnet about the cost of PXGs. I've done reviews of them in the past when they first came out claiming the world and although they were good, they weren't anything special or better than anything else.... Just cost more. In this day and age I'm struggling to see the justification for bling equipment. Even though they are saying it's cheaper, they still cost as much as some of the MP range in Mizunos line up. The JPX921 HM and G425 would beat them hands down in value for money 👍
@@AskGolfNut I agree with your comment about past pxg offerings being overpriced "bling" clubs however the new 0211 range are currently selling at £115 a stick on pxg website making them the same, if not cheaper alternative.
Yep just took a look at them and they do definitely have them from £115 per iron, but the custom fitting options are extremely poor with only a few options available. Not sure how much up charge there would be for a proper custom fitting specification sent to them for construction. Personally I'd stick with a company that has been doing it for decades and has a trusted history of delivering time after time 👍
They definitely do try their best to increase launch as best as possible, however if you struggle with descent angle then it's a multifaceted answer. Using higher launching irons will help but there are always other things to look at also 👍
@@jessbond8541 ,since march you're waiting?? Wow... I ordered mine 6 weeks ago, fitter said at least 4 till 10 weeks, so i hope set will deliver soon...
i500 are less forgiving, feel different because of the hollow construction but perform pretty similar. It will always be down to strike consistency and if your strike is a little to varied then the G series will suit better. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
Subbed. You deserve at least as many subs as Crossfield, Newton etc. Love these reviews and especially the strike and playability insight. PS your swing reminds me of Paul Casey (meant as a compliment).🙏👍

These are absolutely the best irons I've ever hit!!!!

Pings hve acoustic inserts. It kind of clicks.

5:38 great strike man
Thanks, they definitely are forgiving. Maybe not the quietest iron out there 😊 but will be great for the commonly misshit high handicapper 👍

They’re counter balanced to make the heavy head “feel” lighter

Recently ordered a set of G425s to replace my G15s, will see how it goes and if I end up missing the G15s
Only you will be able to tell.....but let me know what you think.
I did the same have you received yours yet?

What shaft were in these you hit? Thank you
From memory it was the standard stock offering from Ping, AWT 2.0 Stiff 👍
Got a set of epic forged crazy long but can’t hold a green, is the pings any better

How long did it take to get the clubs?
It seemed like an eternity.... But we can't complain considering the circumstances I guess...., 👍
I ordered mine back in March. Still waiting. Now told it would be in first week of August. Due to shortages of shafts.
That does seem well beyond the standard delays. Can you remember what your specifications were and why its taken so long?
