Have had G425 woods for a few months and hit the fairways 70% of the time which Prompted me to replace my irons with G425’s as well. Picked them up on a Thursday played on the Saturday and dropped my handicap by 1. Couldn’t be happier with the tighter dispersion. Only downside is some shots seem to leave the face quite hot unexpectedly resulting in a longer than expected carry. Saving grace is it strays straight rather than left or right.

I would be careful and def go and hit these off grass. Even though game improvement, the wide sole and relatively high vcog (vertical centre of gravity) are more suited to someone who is a ‘digger’ or hits down on the ball. I know I’ve fallen foul of Ping irons in the past and don’t get on with them. Yes they are catered for my handicap but not my style of iron play. I’m a picker / sweeper and need a thinner sole and lower vcog. Just thought it was another key element to bear in mind when looking at these.

@@stevefroggett6924 I'm a picker and not a digger. I hit these irons at a Ping fitting in Phoenix about a month ago. I thought they were superb. I did not have any issues at all with the sole or with hitting balls thin. I found them to be about 5 yards longer than my Apex irons with the exact same shaft. I think most people will love these irons. Very easy to hit.

Hi Jack, great your enjoying the game & congrats on breaking 100.....big milestone 👍
Custom fit clubs can really benefit even when your new to the game. Depends on your situation, if your having lessons and making some big changes then possibly wise to hang fire for a little while then get fitted. Or if your keen to get some new clubs then go and test along with some other brands. See if you find if there’s a big difference compared to the clubs you currently use. If so then there’s a good reason to invest. Your fitter will help too if you explain.

There are tours of the Ping manufacturing centers on RUclips. All the iron heads are cast at the blue loft angle (1° up vs Black) because it is the most commonly fitted. First the color code is painted in the little dot by hand then they go to a guy who puts them in a lie / loft optical measuring device. He adjusts them by whacking the head with a hammer repeatedly until lie is the angle matching the dot color ordered then uses a pry bar that fits over the face to adjust the loft to spec for order.
