Thanks so much to Peninsula golf in San Mateo California for working with me so closely and helping me out with everything I needed it such a long process. !!! And another questions feel free and ask. He even let me use reg and stiff shafts during the month until we can up with a plan reg flex driver and 3 wood the shift 75 gram 3 super hybrid and shift cobra speed 7 wood. Took my ego almost 10 years to even think about this way and my game is talking off breaking 85 weekly at the home course next goal break 82 then shoot 79!!!
Hell yea man. I just got a set of the TaylorMade Sim 2 Max. They are 100x better than my previous iron set. I wanna say I’ve gotten better this year, but maybe it’s just the new irons. Who knows

Nice review. I knew after your aesthetics rating you weren't choosing the Ping G425. However, I disagree about the looks and also feel you over weighted that part of the scoring considering they all look a little thick on top and you aren't looking at the back during the most critical phase of any shot. Based on the more important, IMHO, areas for any game improvement iron, and the ratings from the other areas, I think the Ping G425 would've won as it did well in every category, other than looks. Again, its all subjective. I'll be trying out the Ping soon, and may try the Sim2. I've already hit the Callaway Apex, Taylormade P790, Mizuno 921's and the Srixon ZX5s. Of those, the Apex and P790 worked best for me with P790 being ever so slightly better, but I need to swing the G425s to compare. Thanks again for a great review!
Honestly, you may be right. I might've weighted looks too heavily. We all have our biases, and I could've been a bit too shallow here. Beyond looks though, bigger does mean harder to get out of the rough. So there is that, but your point is valid none the less. Its' a solid club and the best choice for many out there, no doubt. For me it was splitting hairs but that added distance / spin put the SIM 2 over the top. Just depends on your needs. I did a review of the p790s a few weeks back. I'll try to work in a comparison with the ones you've suggested, but in the meantime here's the standalone review: ruclips.net/video/sZb3dZeBfjM/видео.html
Hi I have watched many of your videos however as a playing 79 year old I have yet to see any tests with Senior shafts in woods and irons. May I ask for a couple to be done by you. Thanks.
I wanted Cleveland launcher XL in stiff flex but PGA superstore only had Wilson D9 4-sw in stiff for 799.00. I like them. You’re basically short a 7 iron. You have either a weak lofted 6i or strong lofted 8i
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The line down the center of the top of the Cobra RadSpeed would be a total distraction for me. I don’t think I could hit them. For me I can’t seem to hit a Taylor made iron well. I have tested them and for some reason, other than having a bad swing, I can’t hit them vs other irons. I will be testing irons in the near future and for me the longest, straightest will be the winner for me.
Indeed, that's why I always preface that category saying how subjective it is. Didn't give too much weight to it in the overall ranking for that reason too.
Just missing the Titleist 300s! Thank you for the review. Ordered Sim2 max irons today and thought now would be the perfect time to make sure i didnt pick wrong 🙂 oops
Had the d9s after getting upgraded for free from the d7s (after having to send 2 sets back for the same fault!) what a shock, the d9s had the same fault! The power holes on the bottom after 6 rounds of golf popped inside the club head. Word of warning!
@@LetsPlayThru got my money back and changed to the g425s Contrary to the opinion I think the g425s look really nice. Love the bevelled top line to make the club head look narrower and the shorter blade length front to back than the d9s.
@@bnzstheboy6520 you’re saying that as if standard length irons are worth so much money after years of use. They’re not. Don’t worry I won’t be stressing over $150 when it’s time to upgrade
@@coreymcmahon101 it's the bran you are buying - resale value is trash. unless you're a beginner are 20 handicaps it makes no sense your just throwing away money
Love the detailed review of all these amazing clubs. I thought you would have chose the Apex #1 overall, but looks like all these clubs are so tight in comparison that one doesn't really stand way above the others. This has to be the best iron review that I have seen! Keep it up Gabe!
Take into consideration delivery timeframe, I ordered Ping in late June with a quoted delivery time of 6 weeks. I was updated and told expect delivery in November or December. I hit the Ping better than the Sim2 so I chose Ping and had played Taylor Made in my past.
I have ordered a set of Sim2 irons myself. Looking for better turf interaction here in Florida and I like the way these go thru the turf. And the distance. Good review.
You did not mention the ball you used in the test, and the best way to get more spin (should you need that) is to play a high spin ball. For example, take most accurate Callaway Apex, pair it with a high spin ball, and you then increase your green holding power.
This is a great review. Just put the G425s in my bag a month ago and I’m just starting to get a feel for them. Couldn’t be any more spot on with your descriptions.
I’m a 15 to 20 handicap golfer and hit my 7-iron 115 120. Wish you would have someone on in that range to test. Would the sim 2 Max Irons and the drivers you like to still be applicable to me. I am playing with some old ram FX two graphite irons and old Taylor made burner driver now. FYI I don’t like chunky looking irons. My ram FX2 is pretty slim. Wonder if I would see any improvement? Or is it really a matter of improving my skills?
I will be looking to get some new irons over the winter and have the Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal irons at the top of my wish list. Since you did not review them until after this video, I am wondering where you would rank them on this list. I also have the Apex DCB and Sim2 Max on my list as well and possibly the Ping 425. Want to keep the fitting down to a reasonable amount of time. Good comparison - I like the criteria set but would have liked to see you add sound along with feel. It is hard sometimes to tell the sound watching videos. One thing I like about my Mizunos is the sound. Anyway, thanks for the videos and I wish you well with your upcoming ankle surgery and look forward to seeing you back as soon as possible. AE
This is a really good review. Thanks for the nice review.. I know it hard to review all the new game imprvment irons.. But have you had a chance to hit the new generation of easy to hit irons.. Like the Wilson Launchpad, Cobra T-rails and Cleveland HB turbo irons? Be great to get your opinion of these..
Nice review. I haven't played in years and have a set of 704.cb's. Hit the Sim2's today and was very surprised. These are not the GI's from circa 2002-2004, which the rest of my equipment is from. The jacked up loft 7iron was going 170 on the fly and very tight dispersion. I hit the mizuno hot metal and those felt pretty good too. I'd like to hit the Sim 4iron, 19*. Always been a decent iron and wedge player, much better than driving anyway. I'll be playing pretty much all small, tight 9 hole courses around my house with my boy for the next few years.
Great review! I was wondering if the Callaway Apex DCB are rated the same as the regular Apex and so you decided to just have one of the Callaway Apex's in this review.
Should probably mention that the Ping was the Power Loft Spec if the 7 iron was 28.5*. The regular loft is 30*, wouldn't carry as far, but would spin more. (My G425 set is coming this week.) Great video.
i am getting a new set for my B/day mid year so i am doing my home-work now, have you hit the srixon ,mizuno and Sub 70 irons. Sorry i haven't looked through your lists yet. After a 25yr hiatus golf clubs have come a looong way. i will need a good set as i am not getting younger and cannot see my self getting to single figures (low teens i hope) . Every bit helps.
Sounds like a great way to celebrate a birthday! Mizunos would def be a contender here too. Really only reason I didn’t include them is because I was sticking with the 2021 releases and those had come out in the fall.
Clubs irons , I am using ping s59....Callaway x18. Lefty......super ....both are my tools ....new clubs .for looks.feels.....can be next ....tools....can be both same brand .that I use to ....be with ....
Nice review. Currently some #4 irons have 18 loft, such as Wilson D9, TM-SIM-2-MAX-OS, Callaway MAVRIK, and Callaway ROGUE-X-20. Hopefully you will do #4 irons comparison among those irons. It is good alternative for hybrid replacement.
Ping G425 last on looks? Those look great. Just bought a set of irons with the black graphite shaft and black/red Winn grips and they feel and look amazing. However, coming from Callaway clubs, I returned their driver, wood, and hybrid. I could not stand them. Went with Callaway Epic for those 3.
Hi.i use left handed clubs, and plays a swinging with right handed clubs too.both side 's of swings. That i learning, taking years by year's. Scores points.simple , easy, straight, far, and landing practical perfect....
I just got my 425’s for my 1st fitted clubs and love them. I don’t think carry distance should be as much of a factor because all of these minus maybe the Williston’s your going to get fitted for and you always decrease your loft if you need the extra range. My ranges are similar to yours thou I don’t know why you would need more range when you should be hitting 220-230 with your 4 iron off the deck any longer and I go to 5 or 3 wood it’s not like your going to hit 200+ out of the rough with anything.
I just got fitted today and went with the JPX 921s. I can’t wait to get to the range and the course. Compared to my very old Cleveland irons, these should be a massive improvement.
Hi Keith. Curious to know what you went for the mizuno over the others. I’m going for a fitting in early May and i have Mizuno on the list. The reviews look excellent!
@@peterkelly9655 I got fitted today and had every intention of buying the Mizuno Hot Metal 921's.. After an hour and hitting Mizuno, Ping, Callaway, Titleist and Sim2 I ended up picking the SIM2. Came down to the MIzuno and Sim2. I just felt like I couldn't hit a bad shot with the SIM2. I think it may take a few rounds to get used to the distance.. They are very long.
@@timmiller4840 Thanks for the response Tim. appreciate that. I suppose that shows the importance of a fitting. you go in with preconceived notions but they can be altered so quickly. Like you I have the JPX921 range in my head (either the forged or the HM Pro) but I will be completely guided by the results and which feel best. we aren't sponsored so why stick with a set of clubs that aren't best for you! When you get back on the course with brand new clubs the main feeling you want is 100% confidence that the clubs you are hitting are the right ones for you! best of luck with the Sim2 - I will give them a hit as well to see! is there a big waiting time on the Sim?
Thx for this! I’m in the process of buying new clubs and new driver. Have been watching a ton of videos to get some good ideas, and I’m still confused. Lol We all want to bomb the ball but have the forgiveness. Seems like every manufacturer has that this yr. I’m a mid handicap! Far as drivers go, really impressed with Ping G425 and SIM 2 Max. Irons are a huge question mark. Going to hit some at the local simulator. Like SIM2 Max and Pings.
Thanks for coming to check it out. Hope it helps on the hunt. BTW, We’ve been doing a lot of driver reviews as well. We will be having a big driver wrap up video this Sunday.
Points assigned for each category, possible 30 points total. TM Sim2 - 24 points Ping G425 - 20 points Cobra RadSpeed - 18 points Callaway Apex - 17 points Wilson D9 - 11 points Pricing 5-PW + Gap (7 clubs) (Prices based on current pricing at Dick’s Sporting Goods 02/23/21) Wilson - $650 TM Sim2 - $800 Ping G425 - $875 Cobra RadSpeed - $903 Callaway Apex - $1295 Based on this review, TM Sim2 is by far the best value for the money. Paying $150 to move up from the worst rated on the list, to the best, you’d almost be silly not to.
Great review. I recently tested all these irons with the exception of the Wilson D 9 and I went with the Mizuno 921 HM Pros with the UST Recoil ESX 460 shafts. I will agree with you that the Ping G 425s surprised me on how great they felt but were short on distance for me. They were my second choice. Like I said in a previous comment check out the new Tour Edge 721 irons and the new Srixon ZX 4’s.
@@LetsPlayThru I tried those just wasn’t consistent enough. I’ll be 58 in June and my swing speed has drastically decreased (due to an early release). I’m now in a R Flex graphite. I’m looking forward to getting my HM pros in a few weeks.
Good review. However , think of the buyers in the category of “Game Improvement”. Workability is a very suspect category. Workability has to be very low (well almost non existent) for these buyers - they want it go straight. I had mostly same experience, Ping 425 on open range is hard to hit a bad shot, but the didn’t feel better than a forged club. Sorry not my experience nor the golfers that day hitting Callaway, Sims and Pings. I would have put the Callaway DCB’s in this category not the regular Apex. Finally, I am impressed with Ping ‘s cheaper price for an exceptional iron and they include Arccos grips standard which is HUGE. Ping is an amazing value all the things considered. But without question Callaway’s felt the best and had the best dispersion on the open range. Just overpriced - ugh.
Very valid point in regards to workability. Although I do think for folks who are getting a bit older and need more distance but still want the feel of their old players irons this could be a selling point for them. That’s why I decided to include it. You are also right about the feel. None of these Clubs are going to be as good as my Mizuno forged irons 😀 - but I think they’ve all improved significantly over the last few years. The Apex dispersion is incredible. I was blown away.
My boss is a 62 year old scratch golfer that’s been playing 50 plus years and plays 100 rounds a year. He shapes shots all the time and plays Pings (g410s). He just likes the forgiveness they provide on less than perfect hits.
Going to hit the sim 2 max and sim 2 max os irons Friday, still playing Ping eye 2's, ive been leaning towards the taylormades, after your reviews im leaning a little harder,,anxious to try them.
Any of these irons is going to improve my 12 handicap game with my fathers(was a pro in late 60s to early 80s) old custom made blades. 1971 Palmer Originals😲
Very, very good comparison and review. I'm going Ping. I've played Ping G series for quite a while and the looks don't bother me one bit. I actually don't like the looks of the Cobra, that carbon on the topline actually makes the topline look thicker to me.
Very close...I play the MP20 HMB. I might swap but I’d def have to play with them on course a few rounds to decide. One thing about my HMBs is although they aren’t exceptionally long, they are forgiving and hold greens really well and I can work them enough. So they tick off a few big boxes for me. Contenders would be the top 3 listed in this video.
Great information I currently play Cleveland launcher iron but looking for a bit more distance have you tried the titleist t300 So the 425 don’t look so different to me and forgiveness is important and also a bit more yardage Really enjoy your reviews happy Xmas and keep up the great work
Where is the PXG 0311xp? They feel better than any club I have hit. I have the 0311xp forged long irons & 0311p in mid/short irons. They are a heck of a lot better feeling than the cast Ping G425 irons. I do like the Ping 425 and the Calloway Apex DCB but the PXG 0311’s were so soft, I had to go with those. 👍🏼🇺🇸

I did a review of the p790s a few weeks back. I'll try to work in a comparison with the ones you've suggested, but in the meantime here's the standalone review: ruclips.net/video/sZb3dZeBfjM/видео.html
I have the Cobra Radspeeds. I have to say, they’re awesome clubs.
Hi I have watched many of your videos however as a playing 79 year old I have yet to see any tests with Senior shafts in woods and irons. May I ask for a couple to be done by you. Thanks.
Here here! Plus there are two ladies flexes, L and LL for more choice.
Thanks for making this video. I just bought the Cobra’s
I wanted Cleveland launcher XL in stiff flex but PGA superstore only had Wilson D9 4-sw in stiff for 799.00. I like them. You’re basically short a 7 iron. You have either a weak lofted 6i or strong lofted 8i
Please explain what you meant In your last 2 lines,- is the 7i a worthless club here because if the loft?
Excellent review.
Just ordered my sim 2 on your recommendation in uk stay safe LPT 👍
Great review
Just missing the Titleist 300s! Thank you for the review. Ordered Sim2 max irons today and thought now would be the perfect time to make sure i didnt pick wrong 🙂 oops
Solid choice. I think you’ll love them. Congrats
Had the d9s after getting upgraded for free from the d7s (after having to send 2 sets back for the same fault!) what a shock, the d9s had the same fault! The power holes on the bottom after 6 rounds of golf popped inside the club head. Word of warning!
Oh wow, sorry that happened
@@LetsPlayThru got my money back and changed to the g425s
Contrary to the opinion I think the g425s look really nice. Love the bevelled top line to make the club head look narrower and the shorter blade length front to back than the d9s.
Awesome happy to hear you got something you love
Got the Sim2's and I love them. Nice review
I have a set of Mizuno clubs and Taylormade clubs. I love them both.
I’ve committed to Cobra. Updated my entire bag to the radspeed line. Went with the one length hybrid and irons
Nice! Congrats. I’m hoping to take the one lengths on course soon
@@LetsPlayThru would love to get your impressions!
Good luck trying to resale those club down the line. Those things will be worth a bag of chips and paper towels at best.
When you test these, do you have custom fitted lie and length or are you just hitting off the shelf irons?
Love the detailed review of all these amazing clubs. I thought you would have chose the Apex #1 overall, but looks like all these clubs are so tight in comparison that one doesn't really stand way above the others. This has to be the best iron review that I have seen! Keep it up Gabe!
Thank you Mark! Man, the Apex sure are solid. Could’ve easily gone that way. Wade did last time he got fitted. Appreciate your support!!
Apex and Radspeed for players struggling with control issues like I am. Opinions vary with regard to the Sim 2 Max dispersion.
Take into consideration delivery timeframe, I ordered Ping in late June with a quoted delivery time of 6 weeks. I was updated and told expect delivery in November or December. I hit the Ping better than the Sim2 so I chose Ping and had played Taylor Made in my past.
You’re right, delivery times are crazy right now
I have ordered a set of Sim2 irons myself. Looking for better turf interaction here in Florida and I like the way these go thru the turf. And the distance. Good review.
Nice, great choice. My current gamers
@@LetsPlayThru What shaft do you have in them?
Great review and you aren’t a Brit! Seems to be a lot of them reviewing clubs on RUclips nowadays. 😉
Thank you 🙏 Yes most of the best ones are.
Brit….is not a dirty word! ;)
You did not mention the ball you used in the test, and the best way to get more spin (should you need that) is to play a high spin ball. For example, take most accurate Callaway Apex, pair it with a high spin ball, and you then increase your green holding power.
Great point. I used an OnCore Vero X1 for all tests. Incredible ball btw.
You sure do a review on that ball
This is a great review. Just put the G425s in my bag a month ago and I’m just starting to get a feel for them. Couldn’t be any more spot on with your descriptions.
Nice pick up!
Great review,I just got the Sub70 699 game improvement ok but a bit hard of the face
Whew, I have a new set of Sim2s 3 hybrid through gap wedge. Thanks
Thanks so much. I’ll try to get some of those up. Keep checking back.
excellent review.
what flex did you have on the shaft?
Nice review. I haven't played in years and have a set of 704.cb's. Hit the Sim2's today and was very surprised. These are not the GI's from circa 2002-2004, which the rest of my equipment is from. The jacked up loft 7iron was going 170 on the fly and very tight dispersion. I hit the mizuno hot metal and those felt pretty good too. I'd like to hit the Sim 4iron, 19*. Always been a decent iron and wedge player, much better than driving anyway. I'll be playing pretty much all small, tight 9 hole courses around my house with my boy for the next few years.
Thanks. You’re 100% right, these game improvement clubs have come a very long way.
You get a thumbs up for time stamping
Just bought the D9 irons, love the feel& distance &got the height that I was missing 😀
Good choice! Actually have an on-course review of those coming out tomorrow on the channel.
That's why I chose the D9 over RadSpeed.
Great review! I was wondering if the Callaway Apex DCB are rated the same as the regular Apex and so you decided to just have one of the Callaway Apex's in this review.
I am waiting on my pre-loved condition of an Apex DCB set this afternoon after work.
Should probably mention that the Ping was the Power Loft Spec if the 7 iron was 28.5*. The regular loft is 30*, wouldn't carry as far, but would spin more.
(My G425 set is coming this week.)
Great video.
You are correct. Thanks.
Hey man how have these clubs been for you? I got a second hand set today and curious how you liked them?
i am getting a new set for my B/day mid year so i am doing my home-work now, have you hit the srixon ,mizuno and Sub 70 irons.
If I can get my hands on some, I'd love to. Thanks.
@@LetsPlayThru Thank you.
The Titleist T300 2021 is one of the front runners. Awesome feel, distance and control.
Great review. The Cobra Radspeed worked for me . Got the hight, distance and accuracy I needed
Nice!
My top pick for 2021 are the 1990 Ping Eye2's.
Sweet. Throw in some pleated pants and you’ve got a party 🎈
Just went through a fitting, ended up going with the Taylor Made. Hit them better than the rest. Even mishits went straight and long.
That’s fantastic, big congrats
Great and excellent review. How about Clevenland Launcher HB Turbo ?
You have to put the JPX Hotmetal into this mix, they are the best seller's in this category. There's a good reason for that.
They are absolutely excellent clubs. I’m a Mizuno fanboy myself. But I was sticking with the 2021 releases for this video.
When you get back on the course with brand new clubs the main feeling you want is 100% confidence that the clubs you are hitting are the right ones for you! best of luck with the Sim2 - I will give them a hit as well to see! is there a big waiting time on the Sim?
can you please do the wedge review? that would be the bomb
Saw your video Sim2 vs Mizuno 921 and you chose Sim2. have you tested thew Stealth irons and how do you rank them compared to Sim2? Thanks
Have you tried the Titleist T300 or T400 or maybe the Mizunos?
Thx for this! I’m in the process of buying new clubs and new driver. Have been watching a ton of videos to get some good ideas, and I’m still confused. Lol
We all want to bomb the ball but have the forgiveness.
Those are the best for a mid handicap. G425 likely more expensive where the SIM 2 Max a better overall value.
Highly considering the sim2s. Love taylormade
Points assigned for each category, possible 30 points total.
TM Sim2 - 24 points
Ping G425 - 20 points
Cobra RadSpeed - 18 points
Callaway Apex - 17 points
Wilson D9 - 11 points
Pricing 5-PW + Gap (7 clubs) (Prices based on current pricing at Dick’s Sporting Goods 02/23/21)
Wilson - $650
TM Sim2 - $800
Ping G425 - $875
Cobra RadSpeed - $903
Callaway Apex - $1295
Based on this review, TM Sim2 is by far the best value for the money. Paying $150 to move up from the worst rated on the list, to the best, you’d almost be silly not to.
Very cool that you took the time do that. That’s awesome!
Yeah but it depends on the player and what is most important. For example, price, workability, etc.
Any chance of testing DTC clubs like the sub70 699s?
Great review. I recently tested all these irons with the exception of the Wilson D 9 and I went with the Mizuno 921 HM Pros with the UST Recoil ESX 460 shafts. I will agree with you that the Ping G 425s surprised me on how great they felt but were short on distance for me. They were my second choice. Like I said in a previous comment check out the new Tour Edge 721 irons and the new Srixon ZX 4’s.
Yes Mizunos are so nice too. I currently game the HMBs
@@LetsPlayThru I tried those just wasn’t consistent enough. I’ll be 58 in June and my swing speed has drastically decreased (due to an early release). I’m now in a R Flex graphite. I’m looking forward to getting my HM pros in a few weeks.
Congrats!🍾 those are solid
I would be curious to see how the new Tour Edge clubs compare. My only fear is that they are too low handicap for me.
Oh and you are right about Value, that’s a category I will add in next time. Thank you for the thoughtful feedback.
They are so solid. It’s a very good choice.
sim2 Max or MAVRIK Irons
, for high handicappers? thanks
Agree with the top 2. Weaker loft more accuracy, hotter loft, you best be a gamer. that’s why Ping has Pro, I500, and Retro lofts.
Yes I’m really pleased to see that they offer multiple loft options. It makes it really nice
I have the Ping G425, I noticed you had the loft as 28.5 for the 7 iron.
The loft is actually 30.5. Great review though.
Power loft is what you should have got. You got the regular loft - take them back
PING has 3 loft configurations. As BNZS mentioned above, I used the Power Spec lofts to get as close to an apples to apples comparison as possible.
How do you know which ones you got?!
I think you play hotmetals pro? I play forged, but want more help. Would you swap your irons for any of these?
Very close...I play the MP20 HMB. I might swap but I’d def have to play with them on course a few rounds to decide. One thing about my HMBs is although they aren’t exceptionally long, they are forgiving and hold greens really well and I can work them enough. So they tick off a few big boxes for me. Contenders would be the top 3 listed in this video.
Great information I currently play Cleveland launcher iron but looking for a bit more distance have you tried the titleist t300
So the 425 don’t look so different to me and forgiveness is important and also a bit more yardage
Really enjoy your reviews happy Xmas and keep up the great work
Where is the PXG 0311xp? They feel better than any club I have hit. I have the 0311xp forged long irons & 0311p in mid/short irons.
They are a heck of a lot better feeling than the cast Ping G425 irons. I do like the Ping 425 and the Calloway Apex DCB but the PXG 0311’s were so soft, I had to go with those. 👍🏼🇺🇸
They are great. This particular vid was Spring 2021 releases so it just didn’t fit with the timeline.
WilsonD9 easily the best. Playing off 8 now .
You should also test Titleist T100-300 and Mizuno 221-225. They are supposed to be the best irons.
