    I would love to see these reviews done with both you and a higher handicapper. You would show what the clubs CAN do but the higher handicapper would show what’s more likely to happen for those of us who are more likely to hit bad shots.

    • @razzledazzle8631

      exactly! I don't know why these very low handicappers test these high handicap clubs .. it makes no sernse. They all do it too.. They should have a 15 to 20 handicapper with them . Rick used to do that a while back.

    • @thomaswoodey2172
      @thomaswoodey2172 Год назад +7

      This makes no sense. You put a high/mid handicapper for tests you'll get inconsistent results shot to shot. One day the person will be hitting everything out the park the next duffing every other shot. High handicappers cant apply shot shape or spin. If you want to test what a new Toyota is capable of you put the stig behind the wheel and rag it. You don't put 75 year old Doreen behind the wheel to drive down to her community centre even tho we know that's what a Toyota is used for and by.

      High handicapper here...20+, these are cheat sticks, I hit plenty of bad shots.... Yet these clubs are so forgiving and play so long.... I almost feel like I can actually play golf! Now only if I could stop 3 putting 😢. I have only been under a hundred once in the last ten years. Most of my Irons in the past really had poor separation in distance and if I hit a 160 yds with my five Iron I was pretty damn happy. I have hit several 5 iron shots with the stealth nearly 200 yards. They absolutely promote a draw, yes you can still slice now and then but overall it's difficult to do. Hit them soft and hit them long.

      I’m finding myself in a similar situation.
      My TM super steels are 27ish years old at this point.
      I’ve never been a good iron player…
      But they worked for me.
      Unfortunately… I’m 27 years older too.🙄🤣
      And the rifled stiff steel shafts aren’t working for my aging swing.
      So I’ll need a new set…
      But not sure I can afford a fitting AND a new set.
      But obviously I’m going to have to do something.

    Wow, so glad I watched this and gave these clubs a chance. I was tempted to go with P790s, but just didn't feel my game was quite there yet and felt that I can still benefit from the forgiveness and distance of game improvement irons. I'm not yet at the point of trying to shape my irons, I just want straight, consistent flights. Just got my new Stealths (already had the Driver, added the 3W 3DHY 4-5h and 6i-P) and took them for a long range session. Huge improvement in distance and accuracy. Yes, they are strong lofted, but the launch and trajectory for me are very much in line with the flight and height I'd expect for the given club. I actually hit 2 pins at the range today, sounded like I rang a bell. I've never done that at the range this year in many sessions with my previous clubs (RBZ full set).
    Your videos have helped me so much this year. Started out looking to break 100 after not playing for 5 years and now I'm already breaking 90 a couple of months later. I do believe these clubs are going to help me to pretty quickly break 85, since I've finally solved a huge gapping issue I had at the upper end of my bag. Can't wait to see what I can do in the next few years with this set. (Also combined with MG3 wedges and Odyssey 2ball ten triple track putter).
    Highly recommend you check out and review the new Stealth UDI and DHY driving irons/hybrids. The DHY is a very forgiving rocket for me. Just short of my 3W distance but deadly straight and accurate with a low stinger ball flight.
    Thanks Rick for all your help!

    Looks like a combo of M1 with M2, and also M3 and M4. Those clubs were very forgiving, however I did have alot of Hot shots. Where I would fly the green by 10 yards. Also, punching out from under trees or hazards the ball absolutely flies. It was hard to control distance with the M series clubs when punching out. I am a P790 fan now. If you look at the sole of these new irons and compare them to the M series you will understand what I mean. Like they meshed them together. They were great clubs, but I wanted more control to work the ball.

The stronger lofts seem like an issue around the green, but hopefully my wedges can do the job there. Final thought: these clubs are beautiful. They barely look like game improvement irons. My only criticism of TM clubs is they change them pretty much every year with a minor facelift but ultimately they are the same irons. As we saw on some of the video's you did back in the summer Rick when you bought some old second hand clubs you smashed it which just reinforces the point it's not the clubs it's the player, whilst it's not a good idea to give a blade iron to a beginner it's true to say if you are a good golfer you'll be able to hit pretty much any iron well. What's the best set of irons? the ones you like playing with the most.

    Great video and thorough review. Thinking seriously about upgrading to these from my RSI1s. One thing reviewers don't address especially with game improvement irons is can you still work the ball. As an 18, I need lots of help with the mishits but played long enough and have a modicum of skill so that I play (try to) some significant draws/fades around trees/obstacles/doglegs. On the par three I kept muttering for you to try to fade that in, especially as the clubs seemed to have a draw bias. The ultimate question for me on them is, can the mid-high handicapper work the ball with these clubs?

    • @situated4
      @situated4 2 года назад +1

      For you, yes. Absolutely. You're still at the "swing, hit and pray" stage of play. You don't know where your shot is going to end up once you "lose" the ball on your upswing and downswing because your head & club face are all over the place.

Didn't like the feel and a friend suggested I try PXG 0311 P irons with a graphite shaft. After a year with them a fitter at Club Champion said a graphite shaft was too light and affecting my length. Back to TM, I read everything I could about the Stealth irons and am about to buy a set directly from TM, but not sure if I can get fitted somewhere and then order them online. Like someone else, I think it would be helpful to test these clubs with both you and a moderate handicap golfer to let us see how someone not as good as you are hits the clubs you are testing.

  • @richdouglas2311
    @richdouglas2311 2 года назад +5

    There have been very few developments in irons since Karsten changed it all with the Ping Eye 2. The Hogan Edge (perimeter-weighted forged iron), mullti-metal clubheads, graphite shafts, and that's about it. (Multi-metal heads allow manufacturers to move the CG so they can take off loft and still generate playable launch angles.) That's about it. But wait, there's one more....
    Single-length irons. I can't understand why they haven't taken off, especially with amateur golfers. (Professionals and top amateurs want to play what they've always played.) Single-length are so easy to learn, so easy to hit, and have incredible advantages.
    I think the main problem is that pros aren't going to switch to them. The one pro that plays them--BDC--played them long before he came onto the national scene. In fact, he's responsible for two of the three serious single-length brands out there. Edel was the company that made his first set. When he turned pro, he signed with Cobra, who came out with a single-length set (and many variations and updates since). The other is Wishon, which I've been playing for more than 5 years. (First the Sterling, now the EQ1-NX.)
    Some RUclips golf stars reviewed the Sterlings, but they've been pretty silent on the newer EQ1-NX. That is frustrating. Since Rick is such a powerhouse on RUclips, I would hope he wouldn't leave this category behind, especially because of its advantages for average players. (I'm single-digit, but I'm not going to win any championships.)

    I made a set last year in similar lofts I used Ping G425 4 5 and 6 irons and then I210s in 6-9 and the Vokey 50 54 and 60. I have figured that even a mid handi player can hit players irons in the higher range and it has helped massively. Controls the gaps well but offers massive forgiveness in the low end. The way they offer clubs these days you can buy single irons or custom sets and taking advantage of it has been a winner. THANKS FOR THE IDEA RICK and these would be fine irons for those harder to hit numbers too

    Dear Rick, In regards to your comments about the Stealth irons feel, I have a hopefully relevant short story. I had a set of TM Sim Max irons from a couple of years ago that I had to sell for various reasons primarily an improper fitting. Bought a set of Mizuno JPX 921 HM irons and I noticed a significant improvement in feel despite switching to graphite from steel shafts without any sacrifice in forgiveness or performance. The lofts aren’t the same but are very similar. Would love to see a video on the feel and performance of those irons compared to others in the category for a Pro like yourself. That’s it, love the channel, thanks for all that you do.

    The Stealth irons were just ridiculous in comparison. I was getting higher ball speeds, higher spin, and better accuracy by some margin. The average carry was 25yds longer for the Stealth, the longest I hit 161yds in total (7i). These also felt the best of the three irons to handle and to hit.

    Thanks for a great video. I went to the local golf shop after watching this, and a couple of other reviews. After trying several different iron brands and shaft combinations I ended up choosing the TaylorMade Stealth with Graphite Shaft/Sr. Flex. During the fitting I just kept coming back to these clubs. They felt great, were incredibly accurate, and the distance was awesome. I consistently hit the 7 iron between 145-150 yds. with an average deviation from center line of about 14ft. The other clubs I tried did not even come close, or at least not for me. I ordered the 6-PW, AW, SW with 1/2" shortened and 2up on lie angle. I can't wait for them to get here after the April 1 ship date. Thanks again for such a detailed review and I will be sure to subscribe!

    Can agree with you on two things there.
    The chipping around the green. I have a set of M2s 4i to SW. My gap wedge and lob wedge are Calloway Jaws. The 50 jaws is so much easier to hit around the green than the 54 SW or the 45.5 PW.
    And then with the balls coming out absolutely hot, I normally hit the 6i 180 185. But there is the potential to absolutely crush one with the powerful loft and Pingy cavity back 200. Which is an absolute killer into any green, out of bounds behind it or not

    These Stealth irons look very much like the Rocketbladez of 2013, except of course for a little bit of technology and the lofts which are now stronger e.g. 7 iron now 28 deg compared to 2013's 30.5 and so on throughout the set. Of course I am going to hit the new ones further. I am now hitting effectively a 6 1/2 iron not a 7 iron of 2013. Rick, how about putting these two sets to a comparison test: 2022 v 2013? Frankly for my play, I would have gladly taken any of those finesse shots at the green. I can putt but my short game is ugly bordering on brutal. My bias is generally open or right of the line so these clubs could actually help me straighten that out some. Seems like a decent match until I hit that price: 850GBP is $1500+ CAD when taxes are included. For that I expect Taylormade to value add these irons with an obsequious bag monkey raised with the only desire to caddy and maintain clubs, along with the first year's supply of monkey rations.

    2021 was the first year I started golfing and I bought the Sim 2 irons as a starter set. I really like how easy they were to launch and I got very good spin with them. Using a ProV1x, I can hold a ball into the green all the way down to about my 7 iron and then after that they just start to roll out 15+ feet. I started the season shooting a 130 score 🤣 and by the end I shot a personal best of 79 twice with dozens of mid 80 rounds. 3 eagles, 23 birdies and a bunch of the rest. My only gripe about them is that controlling draws and fades consistently is very hard. It’s hard to say I’m going to play a 10 yard draw or fade to this pin. Sometimes I would cook it and then had to go recover to get up and down. Before you say I’m lying, I played double rounds several times a week with over 60 rounds played in my first year ever golfing. I worked a lot on my swing and understanding of the game. Going to try and become a scratch golfer by 2023 seasons end

Did GC Quad testing on 7 irons from the Stealth, some Callaway game improvement irons, P790s, and some Cobra King blades. The interesting part to me was that even with 5 or 6 degrees stronger loft sometimes, I wasn't actually longer with the Stealth clubs than the P790s. I can attest to this very problem as far as gapping. I bought the Tommy Armour 845 irons and they have strong lofts so I have to carry 5 wedges to compensate (PW, AW, 52, 56, and 60.) The pitching and approach wedges did come in the set however, but it's still a bit of an annoyance. However, from a loft perspective my 5i (lowest loft in iron set) and then 3 hybrid to 3w are gapped really well. So it also takes away some need to carry multiple long irons or woods/hybrids as well.

    As a high handicapper using GI irons, I disagree with your concerns about the short game. 7 irons for £850 is perfect to get the 5i to AW@49* loft. Add that to the Kirkland Wedges from CostCo for £150, and that’s 52/56/60 taken care of. Just practice chip and runs with a 52 to get that control. And although the 49* & 52* are fairly close, as the wedges aren’t “forgiving” that increases the gapping between those. Perfect for those of us who need help getting distance until we’re around the green.

    Just saw this video. I bought the new Stealth clubs, 4-PW, in February and they should be delivered tomorrow. Hitting 22 yards further on my 7 iron. Can not wait to get on the course with these!

    Love your videos Rick.
    I’m an average golfer playing a set of TaylorMade R7s and I’m finally in the market for a new set.
    I’d love to see you compare the feel, forgiveness and numbers of the R7 and Stealth irons so I’ll know what to expect moving up to the Stealth irons with so many years of technology changes and the vast difference in loft between them.

    Ordered these yesterday 😊😊 cannot wait, considering on the range my 7 iron wasn't far off 200 yards

    Making comments as the video progresses. Got to admit, you hit the first shot where you were aimed, so it was a good start. Price, ehh, In 2021 purchased 5-gw Cleveland Launcher hb turbo irons ( mint ) for $750.00 very happy with them. Test two seven iron to a right pin, for decades I had to aim 5 yards right of the green to get at a right pin, just saying. Final review I agree they look like great irons, and more wedges will be needed. Extra final review, at my age the Hybrid irons are what gets me back in the game, hitting them higher and getting distance back. Good review Rick, thanks. PS Rick these Irons look just like my 2014 RocketBlades-HL Irons, which I thought were as good as any Iron I've ever played.

    At almost $1500 Canadian, there is no way I would invest in these irons. I just received delivery of new PXG 0211’s at $95 per club for 6… that’s $570. They are strong lofted, but in my advancing age (67), I need distance and forgiveness. Testing has shown that to be the case and am looking forward to the snow melting to get them on the course.

    Best testing so far. 👍🏼 the gap test should be a permanent addition to all your videos

    Looks amazing but stronger lofted irons are not made for me. Oh yeah I got fitted for Taylormade Stealth Plus and the P-790 irons. I'm excited

    Those look great. I just got fitted for a set of pxg 0211s and have been blown away. Guy at the range guessed I was a 5-6 handicap..I’m a 15 then again I haven’t played a round with them. Would love to see you review more pxg clubs especially as they have plenty of affordable options. I got mine at 77 an iron including the fitting

    Thanks again Rick. Honest and impartial. Will be getting new irons this year and will watch your other brand reviews to help me make an informed choice. As you mention the importance of some quality wedge options in the bag needs to be considered with strong lofted irons such as these.

    I agree that a "hard, bigger" head on an iron might impact touch but loft is loft. 44 deg is 44 degrees no matter what is stamped on the bottom so with a little practice, you adapt. Same goes for distances that if you went from traditional loft to strong loft, you simply adjust what distance each club is so with practice not an issue. I have played Cobra for several years so 30 deg is the weakest loft 7i I have played and just adapted. Now I am down to 27.5 and again adapted. I also realize that in "bump/run" type shots my 9i is closer to a standard 8i and play that instead of simply pulling out 8i because of what is on the bottom. Overall, these irons do look and sound impressive for a forgiveness model.
