    • @GlitchGadget72
      @GlitchGadget72 2 месяца назад

      I still game the Callaway x2 hot irons for this reason. Watched an old review of Ricks when I was scouring the used market and haven't even thought about changing since and those are now 10 year old clubs. Technology has come far but there wasn't going to be exponential growth forever either. Irons may have gotten 5-10 yards more distance per club and 5% more forgiving in that time and that's not nearly enough to justify the new sets being 5-10 times the price of something only a couple years older.
      If you're into the low handicap, flush with cash, and looking to treat yourself to a full fitting, then maybe. If not, there are better ways to use that money over time on golf improvement without breaking the bank on brand new clubs.

    So I bought the SIM 2 max 2nd hand a month ago and love it. It’s way more forgiving than my TaylorMade RBZ and slightly longer, but the RBZ is around 10 years older. I’m so glad to hear the SIM2 max holds its own against the Qi10 as I felt super guilty on scrooging out on the old model. Thanks heaps for helping to justify my tight arse decision Rick! TaylorMade released a video with Scottie, Rory, Collin, Tommy etc. where they talked up the Qi10 saying how it was now most forgiving driver they had released - but they also showed a graph that indicated the SIM2 Max and M4 were sitting at 8700 MOI vs the Stealth at 8200 MOI vs Qi10 at 1000 MOI. Perhaps that MOI margin between the SIM2 Max and Qi10 is negligible when you switch the shaft to the Qi10 shaft, as Rick did. Great content as always RS 🎉

      @@ItsOvAnakinIHaveTheHighGround the SIM2 Max was the forgiving model but at the time they only had 2 models in the lineup so nothing that would directly compete with the Qi10 Max.
      Also, swapping out the shaft kind of invalidates the test because a person couldn’t buy the SIM2 Max in the configuration he used, so it wasn’t “off the rack vs off the rack”. Makes a price comparison tough.

    I played with a Taylor Made rental set a few years ago, which included a SIM2 Max Driver. To this day, it is one of the best drivers I have ever hit. I love that you made this video, because to be honest, the latest drivers are pricing a lot of people out of the market, which is unfortunate. However, it is increasingly evident that the purported "gains" may not actually not be worth the extra money for non professional golfers anyway...

    • @JacesOwnWorld
      @JacesOwnWorld 2 месяца назад +1

      Yep. I rarely see anyone walking into a shop and buying a brand new driver off the shelf. Why? I would bet the price is the deal breaker for that decision. So why are all drivers $450+ now if they know people are less willing to buy them when they look at the price? Because the manufacturers are monopolies. They figure since the other brand is selling for $450+, then they might as well too. They could be selling the same driver brand new for $300 and still make a profit, but they won’t because it will mess up the entire industry. Lame isn’t it.

    Sim 2 Max is designed to be closer to the core Qi10 head than the Qi10 Max head. As you mentioned, the Qi10 Max head is really designed for maximum forgiveness and is not a distance oriented design. It would be interesting to see you test Sim 2 Max vs. Qi10 core for a better comparison. I do think Sim 2 is one of the best drivers ever produced by TaylorMade and certainly the better deal on the market right now.

Initially I liked the performance of the Qi10 until my fitter swapped the shaft from the Qi10 into my Sim 2 Max. Misses left eliminated and about 5-7 extra yards of carry with my 3 year old driver. When you have an extra couple mph in club head speed on the second one, almost seems like you just finally got warmed up. However, if I'm experiencing discomfort due to an abnormal back condition, I switch to the SIM2 MAX with the Ventus Blue senior shaft. Despite yearly trials of new drivers using a launch monitor, I've noticed little variance in performance. Instead of constantly investing in new clubs, consider adjusting the balance point by adding lead tape to the club head or grip butt to optimize your current driver's performance.

    Hit the Qi10, Stealth 2, and the Sim 2 Max side by side this year. Went with the Sim 2 in a landslide. Immediately noticed straighter and longer drives (coming from an M4).

    Really love those comparisons!!
    Myself im playing the Sim2Max , still a great driver. But to be honest the Sim2Max should be compared to the Qi10 Core Which is the legit successor.
    The Qi10Max is more comparable to the Sim2Max HD back then, which was the Most forgiving head.
    Still enjoyed the Video.
    Thx a lot!!

    So crazy story. I just left a callaway fitting for the TD smoke. I was hitting my epic speed further and straighter than the new club. We used the same Ventus Blue shaft but like Rick’s experiment here the old driver was the better option.

    Interesting point you made there Rick!
    I play my golf with a SIM 2 driver and I wanted to update and buy a QI10 new driver, but now you make me to rethink about it. Do I really need to spend that kind of money on a new club when I already have a goodone in my bag? Great video Rick, as always. Cheers mate!

    i got the TM sim 2 about 2 years ago as a pretty new golfer, had a cheap tommy armour as my first, then went to TM M4, then got the SIM 2, and i can promise you, the feel isnt even close and forgiveness is amazing. dont get me wrong, it definitely wont fix a slice (i know from experience) but when i strike it good i can got 300 yards out of it, and i have only been playing golf for about 3.5 years (in cold climate so i only get a few months out of the year to actually play). i dont see myself getting a new driver anytime soon.

    I just remembered that the Qi10 Max actually has a squashed head to spread the weight wider. Because of that change, the hosel is shorter and the club plays shorter regardless of the shaft you use. This could explain a little of the distance loss.
    This club is just not a good fit for a player like Rick. This has been mentioned, but again, the standard Qi10 would be a better comparison.

    Thanks for the comparison Rick! I play the SIM 2 and tested all the Qi releases. I'm not "upgrading" this year. I could be completely wrong, but I just don't think the carbon face is the right way to go.

    I think there needs to be a sequel to this video…. But instead of Qi10 Max, use the Qi10 “Core”. Would be curious to see if the ball speeds are more comparable but also curious if dispersion gets even wider with that new ball speed.
    Anyways, always appreciate these videos. You help us cut through the marketing crapola

    Maybe on future reviews mix up the club. Like 5 swings with club A then 5 with club B and do that a couple of times. Especially when you see a swing speed pick up on second club. Could just be from loosening up.
    Love your reviews.
    Do you have a video comparing the stealth 1 and 2 to the qi10? Interested to see how much if anything has changed other than the model name.

    In 2017, Rick did a series of 5 year comparison videos for Drivers from all Major Golfing brands. If I'm honest I would love for an updated 5 year comparison series. The 2017 Cobra video just showed how inconsistent they were year to year, I feel like they have come a long way. Also I really need to upgrade my club from my 2002 driver.
