@@andrewjensengolf I am just looking out for you, judging from your numbers that or the new Paradym Triple Diamond would get you to 280 carry and 300 total I bet
Just purchased the Sim2 Max after having played my Callaway Diablo Octane driver for the last 10+ years. I’m just blown away at how tight the dispersion is on the Sim2 Max even on off-center hits. I’ve gained at least 10/15 yards and the sound is just so sweet!! An amazing driver!!!
Im off 18 and I used a SLDR and hit a 252 yard drive straight down the middle today in wet, cold , conditions in London. If the benefits of the latest drivers are to be recognised I am yet to recognise them because what I’m using works fine for me. I think the SLDR is 8 years old and it’s a wonderful club. Does the business.
The original M1 was a fantastic driver. Loved it! Until it cracked on me. However, I recently went from a Stealth to a Stealth 2 and the S2 w/Ventus Black 6X is a stellar driver. I’m hitting much more consistent and longer drives than ever before. Stealth 2 for the win 🙌🏻
I’ve been waiting for someone to do this exact test! I’d make my choice based on accuracy and dispersion for those last 2. Currently game the Sim2 and love the feel and distance.
I use it to over my ping425 I just hit it further and straighter than any of the drivers I used and tested the past few years. I have yet to find a driver better than the M2
I bought a M1 as my first big upgrade at the driver spot. A year later I found a Sim Max head for sale and replaced it with that. The Sim Max is staying for a long long time
I just updated my Old RBZ driver to a Stealth 2+ and will try it out on the range today. Did you find the shape of the Stealth to be a bit offputting? It looks fine from the top, but there's something off about it. Anyway, thanks for the analysis!
Would have been more informative and interesting with the M2, M4 and M6 included, but the Stealth 2 is definitely the faster ball speed club, technology has improved
Great video very entertaining. I was wondering? Will my M5 TM shaft fit other TM driver heads. You answered that right away for me . I'm considering buying a different TM head now . The M5 lost 😢 horribly. I long suspected this . Although my club head speed isn't above average. I think the few MPH I can gaine from newer tec is worth the upgrade. Not sure if SIM 2 or Stelth 2 is worth the difference in price 🤔
The test just shows how strike matters above all else, 3500+ rpm of spin is usually strike related, low and heel. Also, hard to really put much weight into it given the vastly different club head speeds, in some cases it looked to be 6 mph difference which is not realistic unless it is purely a confidence thing.
I was tempted to buy the stealth 2 and replace my current sim 2 but ive only had the sim2 for 1 year and it hasn't let me down. I tested both the stealth 2 and sim 2 on both the simulator and course and i found them both very simulor and not one really out performing the other. Im keeping my sim2 dont see a point spending 600$ for a brand new driver for the same exact performance. But i will say the stealth 2 is deffinatly a big jump up from the stealth 1 since the previous model i found less forgiving.
Just found out this video.. I'm just curious about consistency/forgiveness/dispersion differences between these... and not just focusing on the yardage/ball speed... I'm actually not that much interested in hitting my driver 12yards longer if it's OOB :/ any input on these dispersion data?
I'm considering the idea of moving from the M1 2017 to the brand new Qi10. So it was interesting to see how close the old 2016 model was up against the most recent driver.
I play the R15 430 which keeps me in the fairway and pretty long. I don't play competitively, so is switching worth the cost? Nice review format, Mr. Jensen.
Fun experiment! 👍 Not too surprising results really. Range balls spin about 15% more, so your strike really influences results. In order to combat that, you should hit about 10 balls center strike with each. Or, 5 center strikes, 5 heel strikes, 5 toe strikes, 5 high strikes, 5 low strikes & eliminate all other strikes, to average them out. But that would take 25-30 drives, multiplied by 8 driver heads, that’s 200-240 drives. That kinda session would tire you out all right. 😉 On a good day, with proper warm-up, you have about 30-40 good drives in you, so you did well out there. I tip my hat to you! By the way, I only hit 130-140mph ball speed with 90-95mph head speed, and 240-260yrds with normal balls, so I’m well impressed. 👍👍👍
@@ilponho Ok, then something is a bit off, as I hit my drives 220-240m with roll (about 240-260yrds), and on hot days, with hard conditions I get them 240-260m. Garmin R10 measures my driver headspeed at around 95mph, and my ball speed around 135mph, launch angle between 11 and 14 degrees, with a smash factor of about 1.45, spin between 1900-2500. I use the Honma TW-S as my gaming ball, perhaps that's ideally suited for my game? Dunno, but I'm pretty consistent with them, I hit about 80-85% fairways. And I even have the feeling I can get a bit more out of my drives even, as they kinda balloon up and drop out of the sky sometimes.
On Trackman my good drives (145-150mph) total at about 230-240 meters. Now that I think about it the difference to your ball speeds isn't really that much and your numbers could be valid on semi dry/dry fairways. On sticky fairways though your ball speed should never get you past 210 meters at sea level.
@@ilponho Well, these arevthe numbers I got last few times I took R10 with me on course & measured with golfshot, so I'm pretty sure about them. Weather WAS dry, but the ground quite soft (so much my wedge play has been awful digging into the ground)
considering on cost , M1 is the big winner , way cheaper and almost the same performance . but , with loft all over the place , 460 heads compared to 430 heads , this comparison is for you only , means not much to anyone else . The comparison on drivers is not a fair fight . IMO of course , I just love the fact that the 2016 is basically on that day as good as the 2023 . NICE .. I still have a 2017 M2 I have tried most of the drivers from TM to the Sim and Sim max . and once twist face came in , never liked any of the newer models . But that is just me LOL :)
Great test. I've had all the drivers from M1 to SIM2 and play an M5 Tour as it's consistently the best club for my swing. I liked the M5, although the Tour is a different beast for me. SIM2 comes VERY close; it's just too fade-bias for my liking. For your numbers I'd give the win to the M1; it's not faster yet very similar carry numbers and I'd assume that with a premium golf ball the Stealth2 would suffer a bit with very low spin on mishits (at which point carry would suffer and more hazards are potentially brought in to play), even if it may be longer overall due to roll-out. Just my opinion :) Cheers
The M1 has got to be the outright winner. All that development and all that tech into the stealth and it could only achieve faster ball speed and fall 1yd shorter than the nearly decade old M1. Is there or will there be a 2024 version of this ranking with the Qi10 and the Brnr Mini
Surprised about the M5. Personally, I thought that was the best they have made. I couldnt miss with that thing and won 3 times that summer. Thought it was incredibly forgiving and hot!🔥
Not sure if you still look at this. Smash factor was higher with 2016 m1, swing speed was 2-3 mph faster with stealth 2 (consistently, not just in the last round). Is the stealth 2 lighter? Are you more confident? Overall, not seeing a ton in it without more testing. Would love to see a more thorough 460cc vs 460cc test where you hit 10 or more with the QI10 vs 10 or more with something older like the M1 or M3
I would have liked to see the Sim OG vs Sim 2 at the same loft. I know it would have impacted the face angle, but if you are comparing ball speed and distance vs accuracy, it seems like it would be important. Especially given only a 2 MPH ball speed difference and 1-yard difference between the two and with a full degree of loft difference.
I understand, but as I said, all the heads were slightly different lofts. The truest form would be fitting each head to the right shaft/loft and then comparing... but I'll leave that to TXG
@@andrewjensengolf same shaft , similar loft is the best you can do to try to compare each driver , let alone taking a 430 head and comparing a 460 to it . all weights in neutral settings . then its the head not a setting that can change the performance if you want to compare ,, this is IMO of course :)
I was surprised because I loved and bombed that driver back in the day! Obviously it all came down to the shaft in this instance, the Venus Black just isn't a good pair for that head (for me)
@@andrewjensengolfI bought a m3 and am new to golf. Played quite a bit this past summer. Got a horrible slice. I don’t think the weights will fix it haha but I like the club. Need to work on my swing I guess.
Like the test. Would love to see how many balls have been hit with the M1 as clubs get hotter the more they're hit. Likely seeing some type of effect there, I am assuming
Damn, I've been playing the M5 for about three years, coming off a R11. I've been pretty consistent with it and out drive everyone I play with, now I'm thinking I might pick up 10 or 15 yards with the Stealth 2....
7 years apart and the M1 is still keeping up. For the average golfer, there's zero difference between them, but where modern drivers will probably help is off centre hits over a season and strokes gained, but with that said, an M1 in the hands of someone who can learn to hit it and find a fairway can't be discounted.
Just got a Stealth Plus to replace my cracked Sim 2 ..for me the Stealth Plus is a total low spin , left machine !!! Bought another Sim 2 head .. just performs better for me . Swinging driver at 100 mph ..I can't have spin rates at 1900 like I got with Stealth Plus
TayolrMade R9 460cc driver is still a great driver for beginner/intermediate golfers. Great list though! I doubt I’ll get into collecting heads, but who knows. If my game improves to the point where I need every yard to be competitive, I’ll end up picking up every new club head for my driver…irons may be a different story, lol.
I love my 2016 M1 and every review I've seen of newer drivers tells me that unless I cave the face in or wear it off that there's no reason for me to change.
Enjoyed the bracket. Did you ever game the RocketBallz Stage 2? I'm still hitting it, can't seem to pull the trigger on a $600 driver and end up not hitting as well.
Just sold my 2016 M2 after playing it for last 2 years. Was my best driver I’ve ever played and I’ve been playing nearly 30 years! Would’ve stayed in my bag this year until I compared it to TSR2 just a few months ago. Higher ball speed, and better sound /feel. M2 was close in feel and sound. With TSR2 I got about 5 more yards on average and more forgiveness It was enough for me to buy the TSR2.
Started with M1 and went through each gen until SIM 2. M4 was only one I really didnt like. Not sold on the Stealth carbon face but do game the stealth 3W.
The reason the M1 was going further distance wise is because the M1 was a 430cc head which promotes lower spin, versus having all the others being a 460cc head, so it doesn't surprise me that the M1 went so far. Just some thought
Not true at all I had my sim 2 for a year and it never did me wrong. It was a great jump from the m4 and felt more solid and gained a good 10-15 yards. I tried the stealth 2 on both the simulator and course and the results were almost identical. The sim 2 and stealth 2 are definitely a good jump up if your trying to upgrade. But I would go with the sim 2 to save yourself 250-300$. It may 'FEEL FASTER'', but the results were the exact same for me.
I think the difference in club head speed needed to be addressed. To me, that shows an inherent bias in your swing favoring the newer club. This probably has to do with you being more familiar with it compared to the other club heads. Driver technology and/or USGA regulations haven't advanced to allow for more distance in a while. If you can get a driver properly fit for you and dial in the weights etc you can still game an old driver.
Just to throw another caveat in there. Cost. For the current money the M1 wins. I'm sure that one can be had for well under $200. I personally love the 975D in the background. The cat in the hat headcover is still one of the best ever made.
I was thinking the same thing as Nick. It would have been interesting to pit the oldest vs the newest, 2nd oldest vs 2nd newest, etc. for round 1. The way you did it, one of the 4 oldest drivers had to make it to the finals. Still very interesting. I am with the others and would agree I'd want the best of all worlds - the longest, most forgiving, for the least money. I think for me out of these that is the SIM2.
Ive had all TM heads from M1 to Stealth. M4 was my least favourite. Stealth is currently in the bag, prefer the matt finish than the Stealth 2... M1/M2 are great drivers if you like the white paint and it hasnt chipped...
Probably not lol. That’s a lot of work and it would only come down to the dispersion and quality of the miss hits… which isn’t very fun and hard to convey to people
I still think that the M1 2017 was the best driver that taylormade made until the sim came out. It feels way better than any of the other M series drivers.
Why did you skip the 2016 M2 & 2017 M2? A lot of people still play the M2, today, I know because I just recently bought a used one online for like 200 that is solid. Maybe you did it in a different video and I missed it, but there are lots people online that put the M2 against the sim and Sim2, the M2 especially the Tour 8.5 version is still going for over 500 bucks on ebay now.
I skipped all the driver heads that I didn’t game. These are the heads I used over my playing career, thus why I still have them in the garage. The “even” number models were never a good match for me, I need the lowest spinning head they had
@@andrewjensengolf Ah gotcha well that makes sense. Yeah surprisingly that M2 Tour 8.5 still goes for more than brand new drivers today like just the head alone is going for 500 -1000 depending on the seller, it's actually pretty wild.
I have always been a callaway guy and I drive the ball like a single digit handicap but my second shot sucks stealth two not the plus not the hd just the stealth two blew my mind and I always thought taylor made was like a k mart club but stealth two with that carbon face man my second shot got a little better because I had a shorter club in my hand bottom line practice your chipping and putting if you want to lower your score.
Just went from a 2017 M2 to a 2023 stealth2 hd,loved that M2 but the stealth2 while not longer on good drives much more accuracy, wich is what I was looking for,at 68 years old the long game is not in the cards any more..
Would love to see you get OnCore to send you out a few dozen boxes just for this test. Range balls are terrible for this stuff but I do think the results are fairly accurate in their performance compared to the other drivers. Just not "real world" numbers unfortunately. Or just redo this in the sim room with your gamer ball and see what happens.
😂 I'm still using an R11S and I have an old R5TP Tour that gives it a run for its money. Haven't hit any Stealths so can't comment on their forgiveness - I do like the Sim2 but the difference wasn't worth dripping £300+ when I tried it 🤷♂️
What do you think about Taylormade coming out with a driver every year? It seems like they waste a lot of money on minor achievements/gains. I think they would be better off switching to the 2 year cycle like Ping and Titleist. If you think about it, they’re probably already in production mode for the new driver/ other equipment before the PGA Championship in May. It doesn’t make sense to me. Let the players use the equipment for more than a few months before finalizing the design of the new equipment.
So, which driver won?
Aerojet LS ... would help reduce your crazy high spin
I don't remember when Taylormade made that driver...

only if you can hit the fairway . spend the money on the cheaper driver and then get lessons .. LOL :)
I love my SIM2, don’t think I’ll move on from it for a while
Started with M1 and went through each gen until SIM 2.
Still using the R11 and the burner draw
Went from the sim 2 to the stealth 2.
The stealth 2 just felt naturally faster
Good marketing cuz it’s no faster lol
@@mattbrown942 just the "feel" of it
Not true at all I had my sim 2 for a year and it never did me wrong.
I picked up a SIM2 last month ... $350 vs $600 (Stealth 2) ... got a new sand wedge as well with the extra money
Just purchased a Sim2 Max Driver
I am going to the Sim this year. From Sim2
People In the comments need to understand it’s not only about distance and ball speed it’s also about forgiveness and ball flight
What is the dispersion between the 2?
Maybe you hit the Stealth 2 50 yards out of target.
M4 is still in my bag and I see the taylormade rep every year and we can’t beat it
If it ain’t broke!
I picked one up for $40 2 days ago on marketplace
I still play the M1! That low spin is awesome for me.
After seeing over 30 cracked stealth 2 plus heads at my retailer and my TM staffer buddies, the SIM 2 was the winner.
Love this test! Would you redo it but having them in the brackets based on newest to oldest or favorite to least favorite?
I probably wouldn’t redo it 😂
I was thinking the same thing as Nick.
2017 M1 is a monster. Any test that shows it being outperformed by the 2016 version or really anything other than OG Sim...test it again.
Ive had all TM heads from M1 to Stealth. M4 was my least favourite. Stealth is currently in the bag, prefer the matt finish than the Stealth 2...
M1/M2 are great drivers if you like the white paint and it hasnt chipped...
would you ever do one where you adjust the lofts and weights for the best spin and launch numbers then put them all against each other
Probably not lol. That’s a lot of work and it would only come down to the dispersion and quality of the miss hits… which isn’t very fun and hard to convey to people
I still think that the M1 2017 was the best driver that taylormade made until the sim came out. It feels way better than any of the other M series drivers.
How are you swinging 111 MPH and only getting a total of 260? You should be closer to 290-300 total distance optimally.
When Mevo+ is used with range balls, the distance numbers are considerably low. My average carry yardage is around 285/290 on the course
I just bought a M1, granted it’s new to me but I can’t wait to use it after seeing this video
Thanks for the video bud
Any time!
Just went from a 2017 M2 to a 2023 stealth2 hd,loved that M2 but the stealth2 while not longer on good drives much more accuracy, wich is what I was looking for,at 68 years old the long game is not in the cards any more..
As golfers go ego’s go. The guy with the latest and greatest wins when he hits most fairways. I’m still gaming my Maverik though.
U got a sim max on market place for $150. Actually lightly used but I’m in a college town so he wasn’t gonna get much to start haha
Divide average yardage with average price for today and I think we have a winner for those in the market for a driver... and it's not stealth 2...
Is my Callaway X 460 too old? It still bombs!
I have a burner. Works well for my game.
M3 is the one of the best drivers they’ve ever made. I love mine and have used it for years
SLDR set for you is hard to beat.
2016 M1... God, i miss this driver!!!
Why are you swinging an X flex hitting it 260? Seems like S flex would be better
in the final round there is a significant difference in your club head speed which is biased to the stealth. just an fyi for everyone
Looks like you swung the Stealth 2 3mph faster than the M1 on average in the final 🤔
😂 I'm still using an R11S and I have an old R5TP Tour that gives it a run for its money.
Haven't hit any Stealths so can't comment on their forgiveness - I do like the Sim2 but the difference wasn't worth dripping £300+ when I tried it 🤷♂️
Please do a Callaway ranking
Nice video ⛳️
Thanks for that!
Sim2 is my beast 280 300 all day
I really like the M1!
M2 2016 taylormade awesome driver, beats the stealth, I tried the stealth it's just hype, M2 beat it by 20 yards and a much better dispersion
Interesting how close they performed with light years of technological development from one to the other.
I think the finals should have been the sim 2 and stealth 2
I really loved the original M1. One of the best looking drivers ever
Because 💰
Sim2 is what I game with a LA Golf shaft.
Niiiice
I do still love my M1.
M1 FOREVER!!!!!
