- Welcome to ACS golf and today’s video where I am putting the brand new taylormade Qi10 driver against the 2021 taylormade Sim2 max. Right now you can buy both these clubs brand new at American golf in the uk, with a price difference of £220! Is the Qi10 really worth £220 more than the sim2 or can you get the sim2 and have the same performance for a much cheaper price. Watch to find out!
Agree! Was fitted for a SIM2 Max in 2021. Bought into the Qi10 hype and purchased a head only to use on my “Custom fitted” shaft. I did not need a launch monitor to tell me that the SIM2 Max was superior in distance and quality of strikes. Cut my loses and put the Qi10 on eBay. I also agree with an earlier comment about the Ping G400 Max driver. Great driver….very high used prices, however.
Thanks for the comment and great to hear the sim2 max is working for you so well. You are right about the ping G400 Max it has kept its value very very well. Also you can pretty much get the G410 so the model up for the same price in the used market.
I own both sim 2 and Qi10 core model. For some reason I can hit the qi10 a lot better, not sure if I prefer the look which in turn makes it easier to hit or what but I love it
That’s great. That’s the thing about golf if you find a golf club you love then keep it. In your case it can be a brand new one, for others it can be an older one. But whatever works, works!
without a head wind, the Sim2 would have likely been longer total distance, as it was launching higher, which got penalized in the wind.
Good point, yes it would have done. 👍
USGA put limits on how much energy transfer can be put into the ball decades ago. So honestly any changes over the years are very small.
Spot on. 👍
I bet it's even closer if both had exact same lofts. Loft up close the face... loft down opens
You are correct. I couldnt pick up the same head lofts unfortunately, but even though one is more closed than the other it really does show how there is not really a difference between brand new drivers and ones a couple of years old.
That setup address hurts my brain but interesting comparo.
Haha yep it’s not pretty. But due to years of rugby and being pretty broken, it was thought up in some lessons and has worked well so far. Working on the flexibility a bit at the moment to improve the movement. But as they say if it isn’t broken don’t fix it! 😂
Yes buy last years model or even a couple years prior. Should have used contact tape to show how much is lost for off center strikes (toe, heel, etc) since that is what these new drivers are marketed for. Not an equal comparison… need to have the same lofts, you’re changing too much by turning each one in opposite directions to match loft.
Went from a 10.5 degree M1 regular flex to a Sim2 max 9 degree stiff shaft. I can't see myself upgrading anytime soon. Ive never been more consistent with driver. Love the Sim2 driver and 3 wood.
That’s great. Just shows you how good the sim2 max is. 👍
Bought a Sim2 Max a few weeks back. Good club, not sure it goes any further than my Ping G400 Max though. Mine was £250. Have they put the price up?
From what I was looking at the price has gone up. So you ve managed to get an even better deal.
Given that for you the performance is similar to your G400 max are you going to stick with the sim2?
@@Acsgolf I'm sticking with it for now. I prefer the sound and feel. Not sure it's as forgiving as the Ping though
Sounds like you should've compared the Qi10 Max vs Sim2 Max. There's a difference between the Qi10 and Qi10 Max
So taylormade have changed the name of the clubs over the years. So for the sim2 you had three clubs, the sim2, sim2 max and then the sim2 max d. So the sim2 was the low spin version, so equivalent to the Qi10 Ls. The sim2 max is the middle of the range club, mixture of distance and forgiveness, so equivalent to the qi10. While the sim2 max d is equivalent to the qi10 max, both are the most forgiving driver in the line up.
So it is right having the sim2 max vs the Qi10. Wouldn’t be a fair fight if I had put the sim2 max vs the Qi10 max. 👍
So you’re saying if I’m looking hit my ball lower I should go to the Qi10?🤨. Cuz I currently get like 140ft height which is no bueno
I did find the qi10 to come out a bit lower. With the height you are getting which is huge, it may be worth getting a low spin model, such as a Qi10 or an older model like the sim. They will be lower launching and will be lower spinning so won’t balloon up to 140ft! Only problem with going for the LS models you will loose some forgiveness.
@Acsgolf the sim2 launches lower than the max
When adjusting the loft down, the face opens, while when adjusting the loft up, the face closes, so the results are not a fair comparison.
You are correct. I unfortunately couldn’t get my hands on the same lofts. However I still believe the settings were close enough to be a fair comparison to show that the sim2 really does hold its own against the Qi10. I’m not the only one to do a video like this that shows that the difference between brand new drivers and the previous generations is barely nothing. This is shown by tour pros using older models from time to time. 👍
that is a killer swing 😮
Haha it ain’t pretty. Played a lot of rugby back in the day so that and a serious lack of flexibility means after some lessons this is where me and the PGA pro got to. The good thing is it works! 😂
U got quite a swing brother
Haha tell me about it. It works for me quite well, but as always working on a more fluid one. 👍
Driving distance for all golfers has stayed around 220 yards for a long time. This implies that most late model pro line drivers will deliver about the same performance as a brand new driver.
New drivers are focusing on high moi now. You won't be punished so much by not hitting in the sweet spot nowadays
Couldn’t agree more. I think there is a point with all manufactures where they have nailed it and find it hard to improve since. Ping i would say the g400, taylormade m2, Callaway the GBB epic and cobra the F9. 👍 any of them would do well against brand new drivers this year.
@@jackychuang4692 you are right, however there have been high MOI drivers in the past such as the Ping G400 max with an MOI of 9,900. So a some of the older drivers will perform just as well as the modern ones regarding MOI. I think what companies are trying to do today is get the MOI high like before but get the club to be low spinning. As for faster swings speeds that was the issue with the G400 max it span quite high. However the right shaft and loft can help that. However for your average golfer it does not affect them.
Honesty! GGs
I wish a new driver was 4 or $500 dollars. They 7 or $800 now.
Yep the price for brand new callaways, taylormades are huge nowadays. And the thing is they are not even $200 to $300 dollars better than clubs from say 2019!
2005 lol
Put the Qi10 against the original SIM driver.
Sounds like a good plan. I’ll see what I can do.
@@Acsgolf Thanks, I know some people have always preferred the SIM 1 over the 2 so it would be interesting to see how the 1 did versus the latest greatest Qi10
after the first swing, I had to turn the video off. I cannot let the swing get in my brain.
The set up kept my interest. But the swing immediately made me go to the comment section. Lol. Bro you need to focus on getting lessons to fix that swing instead of making RUclips videos. You can’t criticize any equipment.
So the swing is from lessons. Played a lot of rugby before so body doesn’t quite move as well as it should. 😂 it is very special I’ll give you that. 😂 so this swing was thought out to allow me to get a bit more power in it and gives me a normal draw. Has got me down to 8 so can’t complain. And the whole point of the channel is the views of an average golfer so really testing the forgiveness , rather than a pga pro who’s going to be hitting out the middle every single time. 👍
Videos of watching a finely tuned swing flushing it out of the sweet spot everytime are not a realistic aim for 90% of people who play golf. Watching this dude get 250 yrds out of a driver shows that it can be achieved by mere mortals. I hover around 3, 4over per round and would get bit lower if I could get 250 from my driver. Rem avg driver distance for a scratch golfer is in around 250 yrds. If you think that setup he has with the trail leg pulled back is weird and might cause ball to go right, it is my goto setup if I 100% dont want the ball to go right !! This guy has it nailed
Am I seriously taking advice from a swing like that? Don’t think so!
Haha yep it’s not pretty at all. Probably the worst looking swing on RUclips! Was thought up after some lessons. Issue I have is never looked after the body that well after years of rugby, so don’t have that much movement left in it! So by having that back foot back it means I can open the hips up a bit more and get a bit more movement out of the 110kg frame. Even though it is ugly as hell it’s got me down to a 8 handicap and driver is probably one of the most consistent tool in the bag! So really can’t complain. As they say swing your swing! 😂
Regardless of my swing though do look into the sim2 compared to the new taylormade drivers. Could save yourself some money by buying it as a few reviews out there comparing the two and all come to the same conclusion!
You’re a day late and dollar short Rick did this a month ago with HIT studio
You are right, but as mentioned in the video he put the Qi10 max against the sim2 max. The Qi10 max should be against the sim2 max D. As that would be the most forgiving drivers in the range against each other. The two clubs he tested the sim2 max would always win as a built to be a longer driver. That’s why this video of the sim2 max and Qi10 against each other is a fairer test as both middle of the range drivers, as in built for distance and forgiveness. 👍
I've watched both videos. A.C.S. hits more like a regular player. Rick swings very fast, so his comparisons don't always help ME. For example, the new T.M. Mini Driver sucks for sub 100mph swing, but faster swings make that club a rocket!
Not a fair test... hit a 9 degree on both drivers with no changed settings...
I agree it would have been great to have got both 9 degrees head however unfortunately I didn’t have access to a sim2 in that set up. However having the difference as only .25 degrees and the same shaft in both, I believe the results between the two was fair as only a very very small difference. If I was having one set at 9 and the other at 10.5 then I would agree that it’s not completely a fair test.
Also remember this is from my perspective, other golfers using different shafts may have different results. The one thing that I really want people to take from this video, is you don’t need to buy brand new to get a great driver that really does perform as good as the new ones, due to the fact the technology cannot take leaps and bounds due to the regulations set up. This is shown by the fact that not all tour players use the brand new models each year, because they now the older stuff is just as good. You’ll find that the main reason a lot of them due change is because they are contracted to do so.
