The Nike Vr pro blades were the best irons I’ve ever played. The grooves are balding but blades are amazing. I’ve gotten so much better because of them. I was a +0.4 before rupturing my Achilles in March. I will never go away from pure blade irons.

I think it's about knowing where your miss hits come from. I miss left all the time because of my swing path and the fact I fade the ball, but I hit the middle of the club face mostly all the time. I switched from GI irons to a split set of Blueprint for 7-8-9-PW and i210 for 5-6. Top of the bag is hybrids and FW. I love my blades because of the feedback and the precision. I've corrected some swing path issues and more often than not, I can control the fade or add a little bit of a draw, which I couldn't do very well with chunky clubs. If your misses come from hitting the face all over the place and shanking the ball, fat and thin all the time, then no, blades are not for you.

I find it so interesting the difference in opinion on blades. I’m off 12 and looking down at my MB’s makes me feel so confident and laser focused. I can’t get lazy and I’m forced to swing it better. Before the mb iron I was -18-20. Not to mention a bad shot usually drops short in in bounds. Instead of hot face taking it full distance OB. There usually a lot more course short of target than there is long lol. I’d recommend a cheap second hand set of MB’s to practice with to anyone

5 years ago, I could shoot about 80-84. I quit due to back injuries. I was playing blades at the time because I liked the feel. I just started playing again this month and I bought a set of Ping I3 and a set of blades. The blades were so much better. I hit them higher and longer and I am no where near a 10 handicapper right now. Blades force you to swing properly and more consistently. Once you figure out a proper swing, I think blades are better but you have to put your mind set to getting there.

I’ve been playing the same set of 2005 Taylormade RAC-LT irons for 16 years because at address they look like blades, I can work the ball, and they’re more forgiving than the Wilson Staff Tour irons I started playing with. I believe the beautiful Taylormade blades in this video are for those who are skilled enough to score with them; or, for those golfers like me who enjoy the thrill of shaping shots and the challenge of striking the ball purely without too much assistance of engineering maybe even more than simply scoring as low as possible. Another beautiful and enjoyable video.

No such thing as being "good enough" for blades. Plenty of tour pros, the best iron strikers on the planet, play CB's. Likewise blades can teach amateurs a lot about ball-striking and are better for your game long term for that reason. I started playing blades 6 months ago when I was a 6 handicap. I've since come down to a 1. I love striking blades and the miss-hits teach me so much. I also don't see much drop-off in distance or accuracy on most miss-hits despite what all the GI iron marketing says.

I hate when they rate irons by handicap.
If i'm shooting 100 because i'm taking 54 putts a round and am shit off the tee how does that translate into not being able to hit irons?
I can hit an iron absolutely pure, ball-first then divot but i'm off 22. I'm off 22 because all my second shots are out of the rough, i take at least 2-3 drops per round, i can't get out of bunkers, and i 3-putt every single hole.
I have Mizuno MP-33's and can hit them fine.

Sometimes “Better” is a mindset. I play to a 9-10 handicap, and prefer blades because I like how they look at address. I have never cared for thick top lines and offset because they make me feel like I’m trying to dig the ball out. Whereas blades and thinner top line clubs like my ancient Titliest 735 CMB’s give me the confidence to hit the shot I want, even though I always don’t. With blades I feel positive at address and maybe don’t always get the results I’d hoped for, but I’m out there to enjoy the game, and a positive mindset is the first step.
Thanks for the review and take care.

Blades just amplify your ball striking , great feel for shaping shots and ball flights , if you can’t hit your irons straight or have a regular shot shape left or right they will be easier than game improvement irons to move the ball around , if your not hitting the ball out of the middle or need help with distance blades won’t suite your game , a hit off enter will be punished more in distance loss, one maybe two clubs , but they are more consistent than cavity type irons .

Paying the price for errors in setup or swing is how blades make you improve your game, or go running back to the high-tech stuff. I love blades, but then I started when folks were still hitting wooden woods and all graphite felt like a noodle. Tour blades just don't put up with any nonsense. Enjoy.

I love your videos Rick! I am am a mid handicapper I can strike clubs in the center the difference in my game is chips and putting for score. I started playing with with Wilson FG-17 Blades 30years ago and broke 100 with them . I believe that if I stayed with blades I would have probably progressed faster and more consistent and been a better golfer today. Now, I just bought a set of Powerbuilt Citation Leveler irons in new condition. I'm going back to the basics and let the clubs teach me what's a correctly strut ball.

I’m not sure if sponsorship influences what you are using or are going to use but a great club to try is the latest King Cobra Forged CB. Paired with Modus Tour 130 shafts or whatever works for you, they are everything you are looking for in a forgiving CB that packs a punch. You will be surprised at the performance and other benefits. Give them a go if you haven’t already, you won’t be disappointed. I guarantee it. And I’m not affiliated in any way with Cobra. I was surprised myself at the quality and performance. Perfect for the good player that likes to work the ball.

Honestly I think its all mental Rick. You psyche yourself out. You are definitely a good enough player to play blades, with your club speed and modern blade design off center hits actually aren't that much more punishing than cavity backs. The slower you swing the more pronounced the forgiveness or lack there of gets. If you believed you could play them I actually think you'd play the best golf of your life with them. Your distance control and ability to shape shots would be better than ever. But you've got all these biases and walls you've constructed in your mind that keep you from playing well with them.

The brands send him clubs to test and review (its good marketing for them). And they definitely pay him for it so if that means he keep the clubs or not, Idk, but probably sometimes yes, if he likes them.

    • @emkayusa
      @emkayusa 4 года назад

They loan him the clubs, he has to send them back. If he wants to keep them I don’t know how that would work, he would likely not keep or buy a set of demo clubs though, I would guess he would find the clubs he likes, then get fitted for them.

I wish I knew the difference between blades and cavity backs years ago. When I first started golfing, I bought a used set of Nike pro vapor blades because they were +2 because I’m 6’9” and they were priced well. I was never able to hit my irons and I just chalked it up as I wasn’t good at golf. Fast forward a couple years later, and I’m playing golf with a buddy who makes a comment to me that “only good golfers should use blades” and I should try cavity backs. Went out and got myself some cavity backs and it’s like night and day. I can actually hit my irons well.
