@@gavincharvey33 there really is no saving grace then as watching this poorly communicated review compared to the TXG boys in person with each of the big manufacturers actually communicating the details of the heads and why they are what they are (for example the gloss carbon, Rick hasn't got a clue why they changed) he can't hold a candle to them. The oncourse work is better as its relatable, Matt for good good is the most annoying person on this planet and the good golfers have left, Micah is more boring than a painted wall drying (good golfer though), obviously Bryson is interesting but he's a content creator third (behind pro golf and long drive). To make a driver long, you just have to bring the spin down, however, that can make the ball less controllable. To make it forgiving, you have to increase the MOI around the face, while making sure spin doesn't get too high but still high enough to provide stability. That's a much tougher task

Your review of the original Stealth was the main reason I steered away from it when I replaced my driver last year. I trusted what you said about it. And, of course, after I watched your review of it, continued to watch many others to see what others found. In the end, most of the other reviewers found exactly the same thing that you did. Not as forgiving on off-center hits, not as forgiving directionally, either. After all was said and done, I ended up with the Cobra LTDx LS, which I've been extremely happy with.
Keep on with the honest reviews, Rick. That's what makes your information trustworthy.

Since I’ve played golf I’ve had 3 Taylormade drivers which have been fitted but once they’ve arrived and got them on the course I’ve never got on with them and always struggled. Pulled this video into my structural mechanics movement analysis software and here is what I found as to the reason you felt it was "Hard work" to get the ball flight consistent. And with all due respect let me say this first, and it was my first initial visual analysis to catch it which led to me doing the analysis via the custom software I designed for a construction company's hydraulic framework stability but still use for things such as this, so...yeah, it surely is not the club, though it may slightly bleed into the plausible reasoning for you review but rather you being the variable in these three separate visual instances. Here's what I found, and I won't make this long:
    1. Your ball alignment in conjunction with feet placement diverges at an average of about 1.3°- -1.8° each time you set up to hit.
    2. Your grip ever so slightly(and I am being modest) changes from very weak to strong in each visual instance.
    3. The gap between your stance shift between 1.29ft-2.2ft with your lead foot(left foot) directionally diverges at an average degree range of 4°-8° from center to forward left.
    4. Your overall postulate stance divergence is (btw , = between) a +9°- -1° in forward torso tilt, +4°- -3° 3 pointed angular sway, +8°- -7° downward angular tilt of the arm from shoulder to wrist, a minute (here it is important to know my pronunciation of "minute" is /mīˈno͞ot/)...so a minute change +4°- -1.9° of forward head tilt.
    5. The club face in relation to where the ball was seen (perspectively given the shot tracer) to land diverges from open to close by an average of +3°- -5°. And this variable coincides in relation to the overall structural and postulate stance parallel to target(*given constant based of the area for which the shot tracer on screen saw the ball approximately land).
To conclude my analysis comment, for which I have delivered the dumbed down and very short version, it is my expert opinion that Epstein did not kill himself.

As I progress I am expecting that I will need to tinker when I become more of a stickler in terms of dispersion. Today I kept it reasonably fairway even with the balls I didn't strike all that well out of the middle. Thank you for the review, it will definitely give me something to look out for.

Maybe on a different day, these clubs would perform differently. Hope you come back to these at some point to see if the outcome is the same. On another note, it just seems like a few months ago we were being told the first Stealth was the dogs danglies and now we’re getting a better one. All becoming a bit tiresome IMO.

We all enjoy watching Shielsy getting new toys and showing them off to us. But I'm curious (and perhaps this is a request/recommendation for the review channel) what it would look like taking these new release clubs, and fitting them to a mid-to-high handicapper. We all trust Shielsy's reviews and recommendations, but I'd like to see what the difference would be for a comparable person like me who can't carry 289. Thanks for the content as always!

Rick, you are THE guy my Wife and I watch. Lots of others out there, but we're just sticking with you now. Got back into golf after about a 25 year break. And holy crap have things changed since the 90's.
With a coach like you, and the new equipment and tech available now, I'm playing my best golf ever. Already shooting into the 90's after just 2 years of play. Had 4 pars and a birdie on my first 5 holes last wknd. I've never done that in my life. I was always well into the 100's back in 1990's.
Currently using the Costco Callways, which I really love, but taking your advice and upgrading the driver now that I feel I'm ready for the next level. Ping G425 Max.
FYI your video on "Strong Grip" for the drivers have us both hitting straight. It was an immediate game changer when we watched last year. And your technique for the sand trap is damn near foolproof. My wife who only picked up her first club 2 years ago, shot out of three sand traps like a pro last wknd. Neither one of us fear the beach now...and we impressed the other couple we played with.
We can't thank you enough for doing what you do. And for the unbiased honest equipment reviews. You da man. A million thanks for us both

I purchased the stealth last year, I did get more from it then others I tested, but after paying $549 last year for it a couple of days ago I went onto the PGA trade in site to see what I would get if I traded it in for a new driver this year.. and they are only offering $160. so it will stay in the bag for at least another 2 years. It seems Taylormade drivers lose their value quickly.

I've got the Stealth 2 Plus. I'm a 55-yo golfer who went from a crappy knock-off set made in the 80s or 90s from a friend who apparently hated me (haha) - to this. I went from maybe hitting it relatively straight 20% of the time with the old driver, to hitting it relatively straight or dead-straight 90% of the time with the Stealth 2 Plus. I tried the Ping G430 as well, but the Stealth 2 Plus won by the thinnest of margins on the reliability and feel scale. I found myself hitting more down the center with the Stealth 2 Plus than the Ping. The Stealth 2 Plus also hit harder...more solid of a connection. The Ping G430 felt a little less raw. As a comparison, think of the Stealth 2 Plus as the Porsche, and the Ping G430 as the BMW. You feel the road way more with the Porsche...more of a driver's car, more hard hitting. That's how the Stealth 2 Plus plays and feels for me. ****** I ALSO FOUND that if I allow the head to almost guide itself on the downswing, I tend to get much straighter shots...almost like I have to give up a little control to the driver itself at that last moment in order for the head to find its own sweet spot. Weird, but that may explain why some golfers can't get that straight shot consistently...just give up a little tiny bit of control on that last part of the downswing, just before impact. You'll know what I'm talking about the second it happens to you.

  • @LEGage

Dialed in my Stealth Plus gen 1 by going 8°, and getting a 13 gram backweight to up MOI. This helped make it more forgiving, needed the lower loft to get spin and trajectory correct for me. I back weighted shaft to dial in a better swing weight.
Don't be totally put off by this review. Just keep in mind a lower loft if you plan to increase MOI.

Thank you for the info. Testing drivers is difficult IMO. Most of the time you are coming from a driver you've used for a couple seasons if not 8-10+ years. The newer club is going to have a different feel overall and most likely less confidence. It's like trying something new in your golf swing, at first you should not expect instant results... but over time with development it can lead to greater results. Not saying that's the case with this driver, but ultimately why it's so hard to pick a driver. Always good to buy from a vendor which provides a 90+ day performance guarantee so you can trade if unhappy.

There are only two reasons to buy a new driver anymore:
    1) Your current driver is more than a few years old
    2) You just wanna buy one because it's fun
Either is valid. Both together especially valid. But I think we all know by now that there aren't going to be any measurable increases in performance from year to year. The only gains I've ever had have come from fixing swing issues and from upgrading gear that was VERY old.
But it's still fun to see the reviews and read the latest blathering codswallop from the marketing departments of the golf OEMs.
