What do you think of the Stealth?

    • @745theone
      @745theone 2 года назад +13

I think in 3 years time, we will look back, say it was a good driver, but there were to many problems with it. I've already seen multiple faces detach from the driver and in my opinion, I think we will start to see the faces crack. Carbon fiber cars, when wrecked, don't hold up at all. They are asking this driver to withstand countless 100mph+ crashes for years and years. Ain't happening. I do think if you want to generate me club speed and more ball speed, make the heads smaller. 430 or even 400cc but find a way to make them forgiving. Been dying for you or Finch to do a video comparing a 460cc against a 430 or 400cc head just to see club speed and if it makes a difference. I think it does but I don't have the tech to figure it out. I personally think sometimes the way forward is looking at the past. What you think?

Im a scratch golfer and I can tell you it is a "Players" driver. I have a Sim2 and it still has a lot of forgiveness which I'm looking for more now off the tee after moving off of the M5 Tour. Even the regular stealth didn't feel very forgiving. I drive the ball fairly well but not willing to make sacrifices anymore. Now the stealth 3 wood. Game Changer!!!!

I recently got fitted for a Stealth, granted the Callaway and Cobra drivers weren't being fitted at the time....weirdly...but I really enjoyed hitting it on the launch monitor and cant wait to see it out on the course. Once I got it to my specs it was incredible, but I definitely see how it just wont suit a lot of golfers...or they wont be confident hitting it. But for me it looks incredible, feels right in the my setup, and goes bloody miles.
Then again, lets see how it does on the tight fairways where I live! Hold on to your butts!

During my recent fitting we started off with the Callaway Rogue. I tried several shafts and landed on the Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 6X. Then I tried different heads to include the PING G425, and TM Stealth. I had decent results with the PING but it didn't suit my eye at address. The Stealth offered similar forgiveness for me and I preferred the looks at address. The red face helped me to line up much better where as the black on black PING made it a bit more difficult.

I have the stealth plus, and in the simulator my miss hits still went far and one of my friends got good speeds off the toe. I actually got it out on the course last week for the first time, and it was great. I had the original sim with the adjustable weight. Didn’t have a big miss the entire round. I will say I can’t hit other drivers just based off of how they look and feel at address. Tried all of the rogues last year couldn’t hit one straight.

Totally agree. I’m an 8 handicap golfer and went for a fitting. I was determined to like the callaway rogue as I love the epic flash but needed to upgrade for various reasons. Hated the Rogue just couldn’t get the right ball flight, tried the Stealth; hit on average 3 ok shots to every 1 great shot, tried the Ping g425, 5 solid shots in and I was sold. Out on the course the ping is so consistent and reliable.

I have the Stealth irons and really like them. I'm a second season golfer and last year into this summer I had a set of Taylormade Burners that I traded a 24 pack of beer to acquire. I got used to them and in July of this year I started shooting in the 80s. I figured I was improving and enjoying golf so I invested in a set of Stealth irons. It took me a few weeks to get accustomed to the lower loft and the different feel, but now I'm hitting it further per club than I was with the Burners. I know this video is about the Stealth driver which I do not have, but I still thought I'd share.

Literally bought the 3 stealth over the Ping, Callaway, Titleist, and Wilson a few days ago. The TM was not the most forgiving or highest/fastest launching, but I make calls on club by what they feel like in the hand and how the ball can be manipulated consistently. The stealth had the best balance of forgiveness on off center hits while still having a very consistent feel where I wasn’t confused what I did wrong. The Titleist was too unforgiving. The others were too vague.

Good video, I have had two driver fittings this week. One at silvermere which I wasn't happy with as I felt rushed and couldn't really get to know the drivers. So then I had one at Peter fields in Norfolk and they were much better. But on both occasions I tried the Stealth and could not get on with it. Didn't find the Callaway much kop either. I couldn't do no wrong with the ping but the noise wasn't great. Ended up with a Titleist tsi3. Have never been fitted before and will never buy off the shelf again after leaving with clubs I never thought I would like. The tsi3 felt amazing for me.

Love the concept of a “launch monitor driver”. I didn’t try stealth when being fit recently as the hype actually has the reverse effect and puts everything off. Handicap is irrelevant, I play off 2 and forgiveness is still more important to me than a few extra yards. I replaced my Rogue Sub Zero with Rogue ST Max LS. I maybe gained max 2 mph ball speed, and max 5 yards. But what I found is off centre hits were punished less, less drop off in speed and distance. Unless you are a tour pro, forgiveness is king and that is why I think Callaway / Ping will smash it this year.

I couldn't agree more. Well said. I like Titleist personally for the adjustability and the availability of shafts on the second hand market make it so easy to really dial in your driver, 3 wood, and hybrid/ 5 wood. Forgiveness seems to be there too

I felt exactly the same. I'm a 15 handicap and got fit for a new driver this year. Wasn't even interested in trying the Stealth based on all the reviews and how they were less forgiving. My goal was to get a club to help correct my worst shots, not accentuate my best shots. Ended up going with a Rogue ST Max D. Just waiting for it to arrive. 🙂

I’m not gonna lie, I have not hit a Callaway wood in the last 10 years that I thought felt good. That’s just my swing and feel, and I get that. I’ve hit the G425, Stealth, TSi series, and Rogue’s; and for me, the TSi3 and Callaway’s had the widest range of misses. The Stealth definitely required shaft adjustments to get it dialed in, but when it right, it was very right. G425 is just a smooth swinging son of a bitch though.

When I got fitted for a driver this year (Replacing a really old nike driver), I was fit into the Rogue ls. I tried the stealth and it sounded nice. The distance was good but the mishits were not great whereas the rogue mishits where much more forgiving and the distances were not that far off. The distance itself between good hits with the rogue and stealth were only about 5 yards of carry sometimes, so I would rather have a little more forgiving driver. I was also concerned seeing posts on Reddit with pictures of the stealth drivers after a demo day. Durability might be an inside and I don’t plan on getting another driver for a long time. So I was happy with my choice and really could have been fit with either.

I upgraded to an M4 driver for the start of the year and by the end of the year, dropped to a 5 handicap just from the driver upgrade. I found the M4 so much more forgiving and longer. Granted I was using old tech. However, I still use Taylormade LCG irons from the late 90s lol. They just still work so well for me. I got fitted last year from a spinny M6 to a TSi3 in 8°. I am an 8 hcp and fairly decent driver of the golf ball, however TaylorMade drivers in general usually spin too much for me and the stealth was no exception when I tried it on the fitting Bay this year. It’s funny, because I tried out the stealth drivers this week and had a similar experience. I normally play a TS2 in 8.5° and swing it about 110 Mph… so I figured I’d try the stealth plus in 9° and it was hideous. The ball would fly and drop like a rock (and I knew it could’ve been my swing because my driver was completely fine. However it couldn’t have been the stealth either because there is no way a driver could perform this badly). Something was off… I went back to the store and talked to a fitter, who was quick to help me with my problem. He explained that this new gen of drivers is made for low spin and differs quite a lot from the TS series from 2 years ago, which is why a 9° head would not be working for me as I didnt manage to generate enough spin. I switched to a 10.5 head it was a completely different experience. I bet this may be an issue many people have. I just find it intriguing how I can play an 8.5° TS2 and launch it higher than a 9° or 10.5° stealth. It’s an incredible driver nonetheless… enough for me to buy it? No, I’ll stick to my precious TS2 :)

Just got the Stealth Plus with an unexpected work bonus plus some extra cash from selling old stuff. Saw some decent numbers at the golf store and wasn't blocking everything right with it like I did everytime I tried the Sim and Sim 2. Got it out on the range today and it was pretty forgiving and felt pretty good. Love how the head looks at set up. Distance seemed decent according to my sc300i, but it was pretty chilly today so and I think there is more to be had in warmer conditions.
Funny enough I just sold my G425. It was definitely a straight shooter but was lacking in distance compared to a original F9 I had picked up to put in my vacation set I leave at my parents. The F9 wasn't as forgiving, but still pretty forgiving enough for me to want to chase extra yards with it. Now the Stealth Plus will fill that role and the F9 will be going in to the vacation set!

Agreed and ended with the ping g425 max in my case. Golftec gave me a lil discount on the fitting which is cool.
I'd also say to avoid going to the manufacturer fittings. My club had a taylormade event and the guy predictably was trying to get everyone into a stealth. It was probably my worst option.

I would say getting fitted is smart if swing is developed and no changes are contemplated. For most mid to high handicappers, swing changes are the key to improvement. Getting fitted for where the swing will be instead of what it is now is the better approach that is not usually talked about.

I found that the stealth for me was very inconsistent due to coming off the face with far to little spin looked more like a knuckle ball but when I hit it with perfect spin it was longer than most new drives . But the rogue was far more manageable and consistent but not as long but not so short that I put it in my bag.

I have a Stealth Plus 9* Kai Li 60x... I have 117-120 swing speed. I feel like you need really high swing speed to get along with it. Toe strikes at that swing swing are a big issue and typically led to big snap hooks for me on other drivers... the Stealth at my swing has turned that miss into a small draw which is big for my game. There's a reason the tour guys are loving it... it's built for their swings.

Great power with forgiveness, even if you don't hit the center but not for the average or senior golfer with slow to mid swing speed .The association between the Stealth head and the ventus red fits perfectly my swing, as for the 3 Stealth fairway wood also with Ventus red.

There are a lot of factors when deciding a driver: price, specifications, look at address, comfort with the swing, shaft options, etc... I also think that people don't technically need a new driver if they can fix their technique and delivery; doing that will take care of a good chunk of the issues. When buying a prospective new driver, getting properly fitted could also help with optimizing spin and dispersion while maximizing distance.

I tried the stealth plus right when it came out. I have borderline long drive swing speed (125-128ish on the course, highest recorded is 145mph) and I look for a play driver that is calm, consistent and forgiving. As in I’m willing to sacrifice 5mph or 20yds if it means I never get high spinners. I was very impressed with stealth, I got a nice group, consistent low spin (rare for me) but down a few mph ballspeed. I almost bought it based off of my results but I’m going to give the carbon face a generation to mature. In the meantime I got a PXG 0811xt on sale and it’s been doing the trick almost as well.

I play (and love) the Stealth. I’m a 5 handicapper with SwingSpeed 107-110 and ball speed 155-162. I have always struggled with too much spin - and the Stealth is WONDERFUL at dropping spin rate. I also find it VERY forgiving, but in a different way from some other drivers.
It took me some tinkering to learn about how to make the club work best FOR ME. Below is what I learned:
    1) The sweet spot on the thing is lower in the face than other drivers. I’m used to drivers where you get the best results hitting it a little higher on the face than the visual indicators of the sweet spot. For me, high face hits on the Stealth launch wayyyy too high. I tee it just a little lower (using the visual indicators on the face) and it absolutely bombs. It is very forgiving on hits toward the toe and heel, but not so much high on the face.
    2) It’s not a great driver (for me) for trying to work the ball with a big draw or cut. It really seems to perform best when I aim it straight and then just go after it. I’m wondering if people who struggle are people whose normal driver swings move the ball significantly right to left or left to right. The Stealth likes to be fed straight shots or tight fades or draws. I aim straight down the middle now and just let it go.
3). Hitting it with the stock shaft was okay, but I wasn’t sold until I hit it with the Fujikura Velocore Red. As soon as I tried it with that shaft, I was sold. Monster difference for me in feel and repeatability. That combination was magic. Expensive magic, but a monster improvement over any driver I’ve hit.
4). I dialed down the loft two notches on a 9 degree head - that got me the best launch conditions.
    5) I picked up a litttttle ball speed from the club, but not much. But I picked up significant distance from two factors: a) better spin numbers; b) because it is a forgiving driver, I can go after it more and see really good results on toe and heel misses. That’s probably the biggest factor in distance gains.
    So to summarize:
    Tee it a little lower.
    Aim it a little straighter.
    And go after it.

    • @aarong5068
      @aarong5068 2 года назад +1

I’m have about the same swing speed as you…. But I’m opposite of you in that I tend not to spin it enough (I tend to hit up on the ball and lean the shaft forward at impact. Leads to low launch and low spin). So stealth was way too low spin for me. I have a cobra rad speed which fits me so much better. I also struggled when I tested SIM/SIM 2.
Just goes to show that even though a club may be great for someone, it could be awful for someone else.
      Moral of story: GET FIT!!

I was very surprised with the results, I also must say I am not a fan of the way the stealth looks and I really like the Calloway. The Ping was my worst club followed by the Cobra with the dispersion of the shots of them being terrible for me; I wasn’t bothered about distance as I was going from terrible clubs so anything would be an improvement. The thing that shocked me was yes the Calloway was good, but the stealth was head and shoulders better in dispersion. I have now had my stealth with the black stiff shaft for a month and only had one bad round with it (well in my ability I’m a 29 handicap player), it’s probably my best club I hit other than putter!

Hi Rick and Guy, this is a fun story about talking about the Stealth. I went for my first club fitting last week for the new 2022 lineup at my local Golftec. However I was limited to Taylormade, Ping, and Callaway. We started off with hitting Driver first, and to get a baseline I used my current gamer the Cobra f8 10.5 degree driver and found I was spinning it to much out on the course. So a LS model would probably benefit me more the a more forgiving model. So I tried all of the 3 companies LS drivers and ultimately settling with the Callaway Rouge ST Max LS driver. Ping G425 LST was a close second, and the Taylormade Stealth + was nowhere even close like the other 2. I was hitting it worse then my current gamer the Cobra F8 when I tested it for my fitting. The feel was off, it even spinner more then my cobra and went 10 yards less the cobra. However I did it one shot that carried the ball close to my desired distance that I wanted. The other 2 were just better forgiving all over the face and had more spring then the stealth+. Now waiting for my new Callaway Driver now, think it will be in the next month or 2 which I’m very stoked about.

Went into golf retailers intent on buying the stealth but with my regular swing speed meant I came out with the cobra , surprised me but the feel and data do not lie .

Went for fitting and tried most 21/22 drivers and left very happy with standard Stealth 10.5 in R flex 65g. Im a low 20s handicapper and found it suited my swing characteristics. I hated the pings g425s sound and looks at address.
