Dumping the color was a good move. Now if they can only add some "foam" acoustic dampening to the i500 line. Look forward to see their acoustic improvements in their other lines as well! Just the overall look without losing any of the 410 performance. Thank you for the very nice early review on the irons. Trade in is in the cards for me....!
Thanks guys👍 I just got a set. Went from 5 iron to 3hy and increased the loft instead of a 4 iron or 4hy. Need to better understand sw and lw options in the ping line. The G425 driver is the straightest driver I have ever played. I Need to get fitted for a 3fairway or a 5.
I’m 2 weeks away from delivery of my 425s. My numbers on the sim were good, but I was tired. If I can put a 4 iron in play to say 220, I’m going to be deadly on those short 4 pars. I’m more excited than a child on Xmas eve.
Fitted March 9. Pro says I should receive irons this week. Being in Ontario , Canada , I live in the only jurisdiction in the world where golf is closed , due to the covid. STILL. Delay on shipment is also being attributed to covid. I hope you receive yours sooner,& you get to play with them. Cheers!!
Well, March 9 fitted. It’s may 6& still waiting. I too am frustrated. Where do live? I’m assuming you live where you can play. I’m still in lockdown . But I’m being an outlaw & still swinging away.
Nice Review. Hopefully, 2nd Swing Golf will do irons comparison review among Ping G425 irons against all irons which have 30 degree loft on their iron #7. It will be a real apple to apple irons comparison review with different brand.
As someone who plays i210 irons I have a soft spot for Ping irons. The G425 irons look so much better than the G410s - black and silver is obviously this year's colour scheme as PXG & Mizuno have gone for the same scheme. Looking forward to seeing a review of the hybrids, fairway woods and drivers (I know the driver one has gone up)
Thanks for watching! The hybrids, fairways, & crossover videos will be up tomorrow! Feel free to check out the live video on our channel testing each club from Ping!
Great review. Can I ask as a senior golfer, would graphite shafts give an increase in iron spin. Got a fitting booked when golf is allowed again in the UK next week. Thinking of 8 to SW in irons with 5 to 7 in hybrids, we will see what the fitter recommends.
Thanks for watching Mel! In most cases, a graphite shaft will increase iron spin although it will depend on both your swing and the profile of the shaft.
Love you analysis of the game and clubs. Would you ever consider comparing the new game improvement irons coming out in 2021. Especially BB B21 and say these?
Yes. We are planning another game improvement comparison video for 2021. We are hoping to have talent that don't swing as fast as Thomas and need some more forgiveness. Waiting for some fitting components. Stay tuned.
Hi Rocky. This is Thomas thanks for the kind comments. Very close to making it, missed getting to final stage of q-school by 1 shot a few years ago and continue to win and perform well in mini tour / Minnesota PGA Section events. It comes down to more than ball striking skills. I'm a very good ball striker but I will be honest my putting and mental game can let me down to often which is why I am not on tour. I'm still pursuring playing professionally just still trying to figure it out.
Rocky all you need to do to see why Thomas is not on tour is go to a Korn Ferry Tour event or a Monday qualifier for a tour event to see that Thomas is just another guy. He's nothing special.
Hi guys just watch this again for like the 20th time and have a quick question for you. If I wanted more spin should I go with the retro loft or would that really lose a lot of distance compared to standard loft? Recognizing that the clubs are cast how adjustable are they for law adjustments?
Yes more loft = more spin. I would pay attention to the landing angle more as a way to assess if retro is a better option. Cast can be bent maybe 1-2* to be safe - Thomas
@@2ndswing thank you Sir. I’m kinda torn as with a recent swing realization, I’m hitting my 7 iron - zx7 (I was fit into with modus 120), solid contact carries 167yds…but feel like I need more forgiveness. Ball stops within 2 yards or less. Worried that the G425 won’t stop as fast.
@@2ndswing wow, I had no idea!! I thought it was supposed to do that! So I guess one should plan on landing just short of the green and rolling those 6-7 yards onto the green (for front pins)?
Playing of a 2.4 handicap mostly due to a very good short game especially putting, i definitely need help in my approach shots. According to my Arccos I’m losing (-1.5) strokes per round on my approach shots. Can use the extra forgiveness in the mid to long irons so Might be looking at combo’ing these with Ping i210’s. 4 or 5 iron thru 7 iron in the G425 in retro spec and 8 iron thru Gap in the i210’s in standard spec. On my last custom fit in Feb 2019 My average CH speed with my 7 iron was 80 mph on Trackman indoors (at Club Champion NJ). These G425’s seem to be the right fit for my mid to longer irons (7 thru 4 irons). Looking forward to my custom fit at your Delaware location in the spring time. Truth will be in the numbers. Maybe A 4 hybrid in place of my 4 iron.
Ping's "retro spec" option confuses me. Don't you add bounce when you weaken the loft? That pitching wedge is 44.5º of loft- the retro spec loft is 47º. The bounce at standard is already 12º. Wouldn't it be close to 15º if you weakened the loft to 47º? That's a lot of bounce for a PW.
@@svtferrari Ping says no: "We do use the same heads for std/power spec/retro specs lofts. We adjust them accordingly during the build process to hit the intended lofts." But they didn't respond to the bounce part of my question. Maybe it's a magic PING secret...
Really looking forward to trying these out at my local shop!
They are great! Thanks for watching!

Very nice! A ton of golfers are making the same switch to hybrids over irons

Just got fitted clubs and for my first set ive bought myself im in love
They look great but the issue I would have is the gaping. I like the fact they reduced the length from heel to toe.
Getting those Bryson distance numbers with this set.
They pack a punch!
The advantage of Ping is that you have a choice of loft options. The Pings I have have pretty good feel very close to forged.
Retro and power spec lofts help a lot of players fit into the right trajectories - Thomas
Thomas is Gold.

Definitely looking at these for this year. Will look at 5-P, as my wedges are 50, 54 and 58. 19 and 21 hybrids.
Years later here I am looking at this video because I just customer ordered these.
I remember my old ping 1 iron. With these new lofts my old 1 iron would be around 3 degrees. lol

Why isn't this guy on tour? Those distances and dispersion patterns are insane!

150 yards with a pitching wedge? WTH?! My Callaway X20 P wedge only goes 100 yards. Must be operator error... =)
I am not sure a 50+yard gap between the PW and 7 iron is ideal!
I'd think it makes more sense to have the larger gaps between the longer clubs. Having a good match for yardage is a bigger deal with scoring clubs.
That's Thomas....I will bet you don't have that gap. thinking 160ish with the 7 iron for most of us..
What pxg irons do these compare to? The P or the XP? I have been looking at the gen4 P irons.
Hey, 47 degrees is not that traditional for a pitching wedge! I still own a Wilson Staff pitching wedge from the 90's with 50 degrees.
Thanks for watching!! 50-degree PW is pretty much unheard of nowadays 😳
