I picked up a set of these and so far I love them! Great feel and yes they're long. This is my first set of Ping irons (weirdly as I've tried pretty much everything else) and they are not leaving the bag for a long time to come.
I finally decided to get new irons. I tested the G425’s and hit them great. Then I tried the Mizuno 921’s in hot metal and hot metal pro. They blew the Pings away. I was shocked how great the 921’s are.
Nice banter Pete as usual. Can’t wait for my new G425 set to arrive. Got 5-G + 3 hybrid and 3 wood. I’m 72 now and got the lite flex graphite. You will be here someday! At least I have an outside chance of shooting my age. It’s the thing now! 😎
Great video Pete! I feel like the numbers on the clubs don't actually mean anything, what's important is that your gapping is good through the set. I got fitted for the Srixon ZX5 irons which I hit a club further than my old irons. I replaced my 3 iron with the Srixon 4 iron (which was much easier to hit) and added a 46 degree wedge. As long as you feel confident with your gear it's good imo, the whole "strong lofted clubs are absurd" mindset I don't understand.
Excellent review, very similar to my fitting experience, very forgiving, long, a little loud...but they look great. So happy PING dropped the red accent color of the G410, silver and black, the only color scheme an Iron should have! Have a set of G425's with Fuji MCI 80 shafts on the way...hopefully they will chase away the snow in Minnesota. Thanks Pete for another great video...keep them coming
I got the 410s - been playing with a 15 year old set before and they are great, felt so much better at the fitting than Sim ‘s or Mavriks for a high handicapper, just picked them up and immediately were comfortable! Looking forward to lockdown ending and using them in summer conditions!
The problem with strong lofts is your PW is carrying 150 yards. Which means you need 3 wedges in your bag as well. And maybe even a 4 hybrid on top if you only buy 5-PW. Which all adds to the cost.
For those interested - these irons can be custom ordered with a deloft adjustment of 2 degrees to tone down the distance. Results in a 32 degree 7 iron which isn't super strong compared to other irons in this category.
You mentioned that there are better clubs available for the same market as the Ping G425. Could you give me some clue as to which improvement irons you might consider to be better? thanks, Pete.
Think about having a "guest tester" that would represent the majority of the viewers testing the 425 with a set-up for their level. It's always fun watching you hit Pro clubs but leaves the rest of us with questions about the non-Pro options.
I might be in the minority on this one, but please don't. I seem to recall Mr. Finch saying immediately thereafter completing said quest for 350 that he lamented having such little control over the golf ball on the course because of it. Besides, he's already picked up a significant amount of clubhead speed over the last year; that is to say, he's already plenty long.
I wonder how much of a golf bag you can make up with the same "number" club. Like all 7 irons but the lofts/tech are all different...I bet you could cover 9i-5i at least
8:37 after explaining a 3/4 swing is 120yds, "Just a nice little half wedge here" . Proceeds to take a 3/4 swing and wonders why the ball went long. I would do the same thing
I had a set like this once. My short game was absolute trash (I was a kid who couldn't afford to buy wedges on top of the set) but my long game, once I got used to them... I came back from a 7-year hiatus and was hitting the ball consistently 50 yards over the green thanks to ball upgrades.
Peter, with the current pandemic we could all use something awesome. As soon as the courses re open I’m sure we would all enjoy a bring back of the “Second Hand Club Challenge”. Special circumstances deem special measures.
I thought you did one in Dubai! In a challenge....lol I might have to dump my taylormade m6 and get a set of pings. Depending on the cost. I need more distance and I need to hit more greens!
Tiger, get well soon, My 1996 Ping Eye 2+ BeCu`s do exactly the same. The difference is that my old 5 iron is the new 7-8 iron. Still play of 5 hdc with the "old" equipment and I am 59 years young. Master the short game.
Ping have always been fantastic but not necessarily pushing for distance. This is something special from them. Happy with my Mavriks for a few years though!
Pray everyone everyday for Tiger Woods. Amazing irons being swung by the best ball striker in the history of RUclips golf. Great video Pete, God bless you sir
Get a projector screen mate! Seeing the ball fly naturally and not towards a net definitely makes a huge difference when doing a skills challenge like this 👍🏼 great video keep it up 🔥
Just tested the i500 irons and got very similar results. Was shocked at how bad I could hit the ball and it still carried forever. Several 7i shots off the toe and carrying 10 to 15 yards further than my MP-20s. Only issue is no backspin. Couldn’t get the spin with the i500s. 7i was around 3500, but decent angle was similar to my mp-20s. Wondering if spin rates would go up with these 425s.
Got fitted for these 2 weeks ago. You can add spin with the right shaft, 6400rpm on my 7 iron, distance like my old mizuno 6 iron (same loft) They feel nice overall, because they are forgiving, my old forged mizunos were painful on bad centered shots. Smash factor is unbelievable: worst 1,22, best 1,36 on a 7 iron
I have a set of g700,really have trouble dialing the distance and launch with them, they are long and they launch high.Keep going back to my Eye 2 and 13's.
I'm a beginner so I don't fully understand a lot of stuff. What's the trade-off between having a set with higher than average loft (say PW 44, 7 iron 30, 5 iron 24) vs a set with average loft (9 iron 42, 6 iron 30, 4 iron 24)? Does adding loft to shorter length clubs makes us hit farther but with more control or less control? I don't fully understand why we'd add lofts to shorter clubs if we have less control. Why not stick with control and just club up? Or maybe because we don't have skill to hit longer length clubs so its better for beginners to hit shorter length clubs but with more loft so it goes higher and further? It's a bit confusing. Thanks
You should play a round with the ping irons in the top of the bag at those distances... if 230 is that easy with the 4, that could lead to some easy rescues!?
You did something I would do if I were setting up a hitting bay: have a large screen computer monitor to display the shots rather than the projection on to the wall. It saves a lot of money to use the large monitor rather than the wall projector. You're going to have a monitor anyway. Just get one that is a little bigger. The resolution is way better on the monitor than on the wall anyway.
I can feel another MAD couple of months coming on the FSX challenge you've got the bug now after testing the irons be good practice with the quest for the Open coming up 🏌️♂️⛳🤬🤬
Wonder if a set of these, custom bent would be a good fit for a decent player looking to add some forgiveness. The ultra-distance isn’t appealing but more forgiveness than a true players iron would be appreciated
When he means control, he's talking about hitting Draws and Fades. A newbie shouldn't be doing any of those things until you starting shooting in the mid to low 80's. When a review with a really good golf game like Peter hits a Game Improvement club it can be a bit deceiving.
@@peterfinchgolf the fsx challenges are what made me a fan of the channel. Hugely entertaining Your content is great. The skills challenge just have a soft spot in my heart
Can you still buy individual Ping clubs as I have a full set of the GMax but only use 4 iron clubs 8,9,Pand U I have 2 wedges 2 hybrids 2 woods Driver and putter
Get well soon Tiger 🐅 ❤️
❤️❤️❤️😢
😭😭😭😩
Did you forget to take the sticker off the face of the ping hybrid before you hit it?
Amen to that
i feel like peter should go for his own FSX record...... remember Stenson, Molinari
I picked up a set of these and so far I love them! Great feel and yes they're long. This is my first set of Ping irons (weirdly as I've tried pretty much everything else) and they are not leaving the bag for a long time to come.
My G425's ship on the 10th...I'm really excited. Thanks for helping me understand why I was hitting them the best at my fitting.
I finally decided to get new irons. I tested the G425’s and hit them great. Then I tried the Mizuno 921’s in hot metal and hot metal pro. They blew the Pings away. I was shocked how great the 921’s are.
I had the complete opposite fitting to yours.
I was so impressed with the 425 driver , I just bought everything else in the series. Wasn't disappointed from a high handicapper perspective.
Peters challenge titles never fail to leave me confused yet curious
I just watched the live and now I am watching this. Love you Peter
These videos are getting better every time
Nice banter Pete as usual. Can’t wait for my new G425 set to arrive. Got 5-G + 3 hybrid and 3 wood. I’m 72 now and got the lite flex graphite. You will be here someday! At least I have an outside chance of shooting my age. It’s the thing now! 😎
LOVE LOVE LOVE The Perseverance reference. NICE, Pete!
Pings they zing and that's a good ting
Pings they zing and every little tings gonna be alright..
I’ve had Ping S56’s for about 10 years and I’ve never even thought about changing them, they’re so pure!
Totally agree on the ping G irons. I have a set of G35s and I LOVE THEM!
Great video Pete! I feel like the numbers on the clubs don't actually mean anything, what's important is that your gapping is good through the set. Favourite part of the day is getting the notification for a Peter finch upload
Great video Pete. That 4 iron distance WOW, could just go straight up to 3 wood but you'd probably need an extra wedge at the other end of the bag
thanks for great review, got fitted by Ping here in Ireland last Sep, hoping my set will arrive soon, happy new year and greetings from Ireland
Interesting test. I’m certainly going to try the G425 irons out as I need all the help I can get!
Don’t think we missed that club spin and drop mr finch 😉 5:48

Ping do a Retro loft spec
Ping it sings and it’s a great thing! This is the best one yet Peter! So funny! Great vid again!! 😂
Upgraded from old TaylorMade Burners to G410s last summer. Love them!!
You mentioned that there are better clubs available for the same market as the Ping G425. Could you give me some clue as to which improvement irons you might consider to be better? thanks, Pete.

Can you do a quest 400yd drive series as a follow on from your quest to 350yd drive
Peter is not Kyle Berkshire
I might be in the minority on this one, but please don't. I seem to recall Mr. Finch saying immediately thereafter completing said quest for 350 that he lamented having such little control over the golf ball on the course because of it.

Love format of testing irons with FSX challenge! Should definitely be the way forward, great vid Pete
I still play with my i10 irons. Love them. Surely making the lofts stronger will make em harder to hit.
Pete, love your videos. You are a sweetheart.
Peter is blasting that 4 iron as far as I hit my 3 wood. Holy crap.
I can't fucking wait for the golf courses to open up on the 29th 🙌🏼 thanks for helping us get through the boredom of lockdown Pete

I'd be interested to know more about that Hybrid...

Great review Pete , in fairness it would help if you had a projected screen as your target .

I used to think the toe screws in ping irons look stupid but it actually really works with the finish on them
What's the softest feel iron set ? Ur opinion. I'm drawn to the ping I blades but I'm unable to go test many clubs
Hi, Pete! Beginner 20 handicap golfer question for you. Why don't pros use game improvement irons?
Love the content I saw Callaway max ls won the my golf spy most wanted driver what was ur main thoughts on the driver
Very good, little bit too spiny for me but a great feeling driver
Hey Pete do these come with the retro loft option? Might be something to consider.

Time to replace my G Max then. Thank you for a great video Mr. Finch. 😀
G max still a great iron
Looking for a new set of irons in the next couple months, thinking the new Callaway Apex however these look very decent
I think that you should try these with the Retro lofts. 47 deg PW is more like it!
I wouldnt normally look at ping irons, but these are beautiful! May have to have a little look at them
Lots of power in a decent looking package
Yeah that 4 Iron shot was mental! Sounds like they are ideal clubs for a mid to high handicapper like myself
