- Comparing NEW Ping G430 Iron vs OLD Ping G425 Iron and if its worth looking at the new model. Not forgetting that the old G425 iron can still me custom fitted in a limited capacity at the time of filming, if you need a custom fitted set then the G430 will soon be the only option. Two extremely good confidence inspiring irons, lets see if and how much performance and forgiveness differences there are between them.

I should have waited until the end of the video before asking my question.....good explanation of the effects of speed in the analysis! Thanks Jay!
It's all relative Jerry! Great question though so glad you stuck around to find out 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice comparison. I played the g425 irons in retro lofts and upgraded to the g430’s in std lofts this year. Like you said. Loft for loft not much in them. I do see about 5 yds on avg gain with the 430’s but that is due to loft. 430’s in std lofts is about 2-2.5* stronger than my retro lofted 425’s. The good thing is I still hit the std loft g430’s as high and can still stop them. So it’s a win win.
Everybody loves free distance 👍
as a high handicap golfer and buying a new set should i fork out for the 430 or buy the 425 on sale and save $400
Really great video, thanks! I’m playing a set of off the rack G425’s with the Alta CB shafts in regular flex. Am considering the G430’s now that they’ve dropped in price, mostly to have a properly fit set. Have increased my swing speed to around 85-86 on a 7 iron, so was thinking I could benefit from a stiffer shaft. But this video has me thinking I should hold off on that decision. Any thoughts on that?
Good review. My swing speed is 82mph which why I like your reviews. However, you definitely let us slower speed players know that you can swing faster.
In this video maybe I have referenced it too many times, but it's an excuse for an upcoming poor shot just in case it happens 😊 like the golfer that always has 101 reasons why the rubbish shot they just played wasn't their fault 🤣🤣
Jay, Love your comparisons, but like it when your first shots are on an actual hole. Probably doesn't make a huge difference but it does look nicer.
I'll ensure next time I utilise the Driving Range for the boring shot collation part of the video off camera 😊👍
shaf and ball adjustment shows that the 20 year old ping is very similar to the modern ping of similar loft.
Pretty much true for virtually all irons. It's just annual marketing gimmicks and store owner online BS enticing gullible clowns to continually shop and "upgrade" their clubs. Like most recreations there are those that actually take part in the performance of the recreation and many others who are shopper types. 🙂
I saw that ..
I read that the G425 was similar to the old ping eye 2 ?
Great video as always. I do wonder why you played the 6.0 shaft at that swing speed though. Why not drop back to the 5.0 or 5.5?
I'm lucky to not be shaft sensitive whatsoever but I wanted to keep everything exactly the same so any differences will be due to head only 👍
Why Not use the standard Ping AWT 2.0 shaft that comes with these ?
Only rack sets have the AWT shafts, and in a world of golfers needing to get custom fit properly, the AWT shaft will only suit a small number of golfers. Rack sets are what are called wallpaper sets, as in they aren't necessarily designed to be sold until end of life.
I'm just trying to keep everything the same, whatever that same is 👍🏻👍🏻
Why does the swing speed make a difference in the comparison? I have a very slow swing speed which is lower than you tested these at (in the 70's). Would the differential between the two clubs change with speed?
Great comparison! You mentioned G700... do you think the G430 would be an improvement over the G700?
I think anything is an improvement over the G700 😊 but yes I would say on balance the G430 surpasses the G700 👍
Would be curious what the results would be of a comparison of driving irons, curious whether some are more forgiving than others.
Very nice clubs. Will play them if I win! Play at 13 HC now.
At 13hcp, soon you won't need the forgiveness and you'll be looking at a different design?? 👍
@@AskGolfNut I seem to have plateaued. Maybe I need more fargiveness or forgiveness?
@hgibson2448 that has to be the worst tag line ever 😊
I'm stuck. A high handicapper with G25's any point to moving to the 425 or 430"s. thanks Mike
Ping have been making solid iron choices for years and although rarely find that moving generation to generation be any real tangible benefit, going from an older G25 to the newer G430 may yield some good gains. I'd naturally suggest that testing them directly head to head at a repu fitting facility would be the best way forward 👍🏻
Love Old v New!
Like the back look of the old but definitely like the feel and sound of the new.
430 all the way
It's got carbon..... Absolutely 👍😊
