"The old cars had a bug where they couldn't receive software updates over the air. So unfortunately they're rolling out the .0 update in stages by sending technicians around to cars to update them. But that's fixed with 2.0" Source: The Fisker employee in the parking lot while dropping off the car
That's bad comms on Fisker's part for sure. Either the employee was mistaken, or perhaps they were talking about the very earliest Oceans (the One model, a small minority of the inventory Fisker has today). Might be worth updating this pin to clarify that this is not actually true for most Oceans, at least according to the testimony of the comments in this thread and on Reddit (where many folks are getting OTA 2.0)
@@TopGunZero While i agree in premise, i dont think Fisker was in a position to wait any longer. This may have been their "Hail Mary" and like most Hail Mary's, pass was incomplete.
It's a shame that this company died due to bad software. Hopefully other companies will take notice of how important the UI/UX is for _all_ modern technologies, and not just adopt the "We'll fix it later" mentality; the first impression is the *ONLY* impression.
Fisker is not dying because of their software. It’s dying because Fisker never set up a proper delivery network in the US and support system for their vehicles. Crappy software can easily be improved but not delivery and customer/technician support.
UI/UX is important but proper dev pipeline and product management can always provide a path forward. You 100% can start with a basic UI/UX (very common) that isn’t perfect and evolve over time without losing users, and in fact having them love the product (and company) more over time. There are likely many other reasons it died, like cash flow, vision, management, engineering, etc…
The company is 0:01 dying again just like Henrik Fiskar's first company because he does not know how to set up and properly manage a company. None of the critical operational stuff was set up properly from the beginning, as evidenced by the fact that they couldn't even collect car payments properly which is unheard of in the car business.
easier to reach under the seat you are sitting in that across the entire car to open a compartment. just because it has been done one way in the past does not make it right..
Jsch... no, it's actually another safety issue with the car. Gloveboxes are designed to be accessable while the driver keeps eyes on the road, and so a peace officer can see the drivers hands when accessing it. Fumbling around under your seat instead is NOT an improvement
The day this video came out, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a third investigation against Fisker’s Ocean SUV for doors that won’t open.
In the next software update there will be a Door Delete option , doors pop off and you will get thumbs up from jeep wrangler owners as you drive down the road....🤣🤣😂
Tesla Stock is too big to fail. Everyone who has some fund has Tesla Apple Google shares, even in some Emerging Markets Africa fund. So Tesla price is save, if there is no robotaxi this year, cars have panel gaps, or their uhm let's say „next boss“ is a near fascist, conspiracy weirdo…
I feel so bad for the employees of this company like the engineers who actually made a some good aspects of the car but cant see their work come to fruition
I started shorting Fisker in 2021 when it was around $23. It almost instantly shot up to like $28 on some rumor that Apple was considering them to partner with for the Apple car. I closed my short for a good 20% loss. Now here we are and Fisker is basically worthless. Lol
The company I work for makes hinges. When the owner started it, they messed up the design of a hinge, which made the cabinet door not close to the end. A disaster given that the company was selling pretty much internationally. The owner decided to own the mistake and sent out technicians to fix and replace all the hinges, almost bankrupting the company in the process. But it passed. And because of that experience, he vowed to focus on quality and design, aiming to be the best. Years later, the company is now the leading cabinet hardware and hinge manufacturer worldwide, known for its quality! Good for Fisker for owning it and trying. Hoping it works out for them.
Your point is the Fisker business model is unhinged? Still repairable? I'm kidding but the EV market competition is going to have many failed businesses. I hope it works out for Fisker too. But, they got a product to market, which in itself is significant, imo. Lots of 'em didn't.
Unfortunately fisker seems to be another cautionary tale. They really did SO much right here. Solid looks, materials, and build quality. Unfortunately they really tried to over-deliver on the tech. If they had stopped at good looks and build quality, used android auto and CarPlay, and kept it affordable, they would have had a genuinely compelling product. But instead they messed with solar panels, custom software, and new safety features. It’s honestly such a shame and is a direct result of salespeople getting their way instead of engineers.
Yep. And as he was talking about how little the solar panels actually contributed... sheesh. All that tech and hardware for something that would make it very expensive to replace/repair if hail or a tree branch cracked the roof.
Salespeople have NOTHING to do with the features that go into the making of a car. This was executive-led "feature bloat" with nobody to tell him stop adding daydreaming the car out of viability.
@kluchakiller Until you realize a full tank of battery costs like $5 to $10. You're trying to get free $10 while at the same time risking repair bill in the thousands when rock flies from semi truck and cracks your solar panel..
From my experience, it’s other way around. Engineers are rarely concerned with profits and product management. They would rather deliver the most advanced tech regardless of actual market viability.
I'm a heartbroken Fisker Ocean Extreme owner and I agree with almost everything in this review. I also mostly agree with the previous one and I really don't want to. Also if Marques had spent more time with the car he would have found so many more UX issues. 1. My Ocean Extreme did receive its 2.0 Update over the air. It required me to manually accept it and consciously unplug and lock the vehicle while it updated. Note: A Fisker engineer did come to look at it after the update for other issues I'd reported. IIRC there was also conversation about updating the key fob... 2. You can manually push the button on the left side of the steering wheel to turn the parking brake off even if your seatbelt is not on ⚠ - If you are stopped at a light and you shift too much in your seat, the car shifts into P and unlocks the doors. ⚠ - If you open the driver side door it shifts into park and unlock the other doors. 3. Bluetooth/Audio still has reliability bugs. 4. I still lose 4G connection for multiple hours in a downtown area. When I do, both clocks on the vehicle's screen get out of sync and are both wrong (minutes are always accurate though.🤔) ⚠ - What happens to the 4G connection if Fisker goes out of business? 5. It now supports multiple profiles but the profiles in the car don't seem to store much besides A/C settings 😞 6. Spending engineering resources on a screen that only rotates when I'm in park and on fancy things like California mode was not the best move considering the state of the core experiences in the car's software. 7. I did get locked in the car multiple times as did my wife. Hasn't happened since 2.0 update I've said it before, the single most concerning thing for me was the promise of a "2.0" update to fix all the problems. Who even cares about version numbers today? How many folks know what version number of Chrome they are running? Nobody even notices when Chrome updates. IMHO celebrating numeric releases of software today is an anti-pattern. Continuous delivery, feature-flighting, A/B experimentation, these are not things you can easily build in after the fact. Shipping without all of them was a mistake and has impacted their engineering agility. I'm a software guy at heart so I'm biased but I think one of the best moves Fisker could make would be to create a non-profit foundation to own and drive forward their vehicle OS stack by making it open source and leveraging the community of enthusiasts. Take 24 vehicles and give 2 a month to community voted top contributors over the next year. This would also bolster confidence for new buyers in the event of dissolution. If the Ocean could become an autonomous vehicle dev kit for companies like Wayve and it's competitors perhaps they could even move more inventory.
Nah a real owner was not going to agreed to his review. This dude is a real owner and he give a real explanation of almost everything. ruclips.net/video/XVHZVhxOCDw/видео.htmlsi=Y81zVFWuBlZ74Izp
I disagree with the open source comment, this would allow people to mess with the safety of the car in non-test situations. We are all aware that bugs can and will happen and as much as the community could do good, the risk Fisker takes letting anyone test out the bugs anywhere would be way too high. Also imagine if this allows bad actors to gain knowledge on how to steal these cars
'California Mode' has worked since day 1 on my 2006 Saab 9-3. This is not even a new feature. Since I'm still driving my 2006 Saab and have over 214k miles it feels like I now have this new California Mode feature. Yay!
@@allansmith8643 but thats kinda different tho, something that literally does not exist now anywhere, but getting basic things wrong like bluetooth, UI, speed modes, key fob not working is just shameful, these things have been done so many times so there shouldn't be any excuse really
Maybe because I'm used to having older cars... the thought of buying a car and it not being fully correct and ready and waiting for an update to solve said shortcomings is an absurd thought. Even the worst automakers still at least finished their cars to a point where they were usable by the time the customer bought it? Weird times.
Its true.. one wonders is there too much use of software in electric cars anyway.. they should should have great "essential" software, and not much else ... nothing wrong with manual controls we are all used to using ..
There’s a difference between doing what Fisker did (releasing a car that’s in “beta”) and charging people for it versus releasing a fully functioning car and the pushing OTA improvements that can add another decade to the car in terms of features. But I agree, I’m a developer and sometimes bugs can slip through so it’s a little crazy (and in this case bugs can be deadly versus a site shutting down).
I dunno what magical time you're referring to but I'm pretty sure a jaunt down Recall lane disproves its existence ;p Cars have always had issues on release, Fisker just takes it to the extreme.
@@antoinkiely7972 Advanced software is not inherent to EVs; EVs are just newer and copying Tesla, which included a lot of modern tech into their cars (something the car industry has been decades behind on). And, no, they definitely don't have too much software. Other cars do not have enough. I have had almost no issues with my Tesla and the few I've had were very minor; far less than the avg car. What I do have is 100x more features, many of which I absolutely love; others I only like ;p And there was definitely a problem with the manual controls we were all using - there were way too many of them and they required looking away from the road. That's why Tesla moved the core controls to 2 contextual scroll-wheel buttons on the wheel, and to voice controls. Much safer, much cleaner.
@dardanm3544 That's probably my other gripe more generally. The average person doesn't want or need any of the "features" they keep touting with most modern cars in general, yet most carmakers are pushing these features anyway (both EV and ICE). Most of the features now don't even have anything to do with driving. Why does a modern car have video games or internet browsing built in now? That's why people are still buying Toyota 4Runners which has been in production since 2010 mostly unchanged, even at insane markups, because it's simple, reliable, and doesn't require people to search google on how to use X, Y and Z. Even the Mitsubishi Mirage, plenty of people buy those because they are simple transportation. That's what's disappeared over the past decade is simple, distraction-free, not-tied-to-some-server-farm-owned-by-XYZ-carmaker transportation. And evidently, a lot of people have been driving their cars for more than a decade and survived without software updates, since the average age of cars on the road is 12.5 years, and I'm sure plenty a lot older than that.
I've had my Ocean One since December. It came with software ver 1.10, which got updated to 1.11 a few weeks later and then 2.0 was pushed last week. Both updates were OTA and didn't require any tech to visit/install. Is the software complete? No. Is it better than the older version? Absolutely. The car drives and handles really well and it shows in the build quality. As a One owner, I am realistic about the murky future of this company and have mentally prepared myself for this car possibly turning into an expensive brick at some point in the future. All I can hope is that they are around long enough to push the next few set of updates to make this a more "complete" car. My biggest concern is with lack of support if the company goes under and there are no service or repair options in case of a fender-bender or a cracked windshield. So while I love my Ocean and think it could become a great car someday if the company survives long enough, I can't recommend anyone to buy this car until the company's future is clearer.
If anything keep it as a collectors edition if the company goes belly up. You will eventually get more than what you paid for it. Or atleast your kids or grandkids will, lol
Shame that this company ran out of cash and released the product prematurely. It could have been a great vehicle, but it needed another 6-12 months of testing and refinement before product release.

In fairness to Fisker, the parking brake feature is more common than you'd think. From personal experience, Toyotas and Hyundais with automatic parking brakes will not disengage them automatically without your seat belt being on, as is the case with other cars I would imagine. On those models, you can override it by manually pushing the parking brake button. I do not know if Fisker included such a button.
The Nissan Rogue works the same way, or at least the 2018 did. AFAIK, it is a safety feature to avoid rollaways. Tesla doesn't do this, but they compensate by being super picky about the seat sensor if the belt isn't engaged.
The auto e-brake not disengaging when the seatbelt isn't connected is a feature. You can still manually disengage the e-brake, but it doesn't do it automatically if you're not wearing your seltbelt. It's a thing in my Toyota as well
Yeah it seems like a pretty reasonable safety feature honestly. So if you're just sitting in the car getting situated or grabbing stuff before you get out and you accidentally hit the brake pedal the car doesn't start rolling down a hill or something.
Yes and some people don't want to put on seatbelts. Small details like this may nudge them to do it a few more times than they would have otherwise. My old diesel will start screaming at me if I drive more than 20 meters without the belt engaged. This is a useful feature that more cars should have.
For those who are willing to roll the dice, Fisker cut the price on all models of the Ocean as of March 29 Model - Old MSRP - New MSRP - Difference Ocean Sport $38,999 $24,999 -$14,000 Ocean Ultra $52,999 $34,999 -$18,000 Ocean Extreme $61,499 $37,499 -$24,000

December 2011, Fisker Automotive recalled the first 239 Karmas delivered to the U.S. due to a risk of battery fire caused by coolant leak. Of the 239 cars, less than fifty had been delivered to customers, the rest were in dealerships. In the report filed by Fisker Automotive with the NHTSA, the carmaker said some hose clamps were not properly positioned, which could allow a coolant leak and an electrical short could possibly occur if coolant enters the battery compartment, causing a thermal event within the battery, including a possible fire. In May 2012 a Fisker Karma was involved in a home fire that also burnt two other cars in Fort Bend County, Texas. The chief fire investigator said the Karma was the origin of the fire that spread to the house, but the exact cause is still unknown
I work in an automotive company, and work with people that are testing the car's software. The issues you are experiencing are issues that are present on the earliest softwares of the system, and in my company we don't release the car or deploy the software until the issues are corrected or are harmless enough for the custom not to be bothered. What Fisker has done would be absolutely unacceptable for my company's standard, and should be unacceptable in general for the automotive industry
So... I own a Renault. And let me tell you about some of his own details.. This is a car from a model that already had 3 years of existence, so plenty of time to fix things. Software wise... The car was advertised with a lot of safty features but that only work in ridiculous set of conditions with no need to doing it so. The blind spot warning only works if I'm driving +70km/h, and when it flashes the car already passed the blind spot and I can see it perfectly. Why on earth this does not work in slower speeds? When I really need this is when I'm driving in the city and similar when the traffic is more intense and I have to be aware of several things at the same time. Why the automatic brakes only work if: A) Adaptive cruise control is set up and on -it only lets me activate it if I'm driving at more than 50km/h B) the car needs to be driving at more than 40km/h or it will STOP the assistance and as a result STOP BRAKING. When it its the 40 mark it will stop doing any brakin! This means that I will always hit the car in front if I don't apply the brakes in the meantime. This is ridiculous. In adaptive cruise control, although it can visualy warn you that has a car in front of you by quite far away it does not slow down the select speed gradually to make the gap, it rather choseses to go until quite close(the limit set) and them applies the brakes at the last second leading to puxes on the seat belt and a subject to being rear-ended by a more distracted driver behind due to the sudden drastic change in speed. I had it start applying the brakes out of nowhere just because it, somehow it believes it has a car in front when it is not there or its has not nearly close enough to do so, and I remind you that he does not brake smoothly... Leaving people behind me almost crashing to me or just thinking I'm an idiot. The car also has automatic park assist, and its just straight up bad sometimes. Once, in a perfect set conditions (new parking lot with all the markings intact and plany of space), it parked the car all crooked, only noticed (i was on a call) when the car next to me needed to get out and couldn't because the way mine was parked completely crooked. The parking sensors have delay and it can straight up miss objets if they are thin enough (like a pole) or in a angle. What led me to charsh the front on to a small wall that was not visible from the interior and only started beeping when the damage was already done. Did the same with a thin wooden pole. The interior The car has a wook, supposedly to put your shopping bags, that straight up is useless as it can't be used when the trunk is closed because its right there were the door closes. Its a 7 seater and I have to crall on to the trunk area to be able to manually pick up the corner of the seat to put the lat row up, or do the same procedure from the passangers seats, there is no strap what so ever to help you with this, such a basic thing, they can be fold using a simple button but is a pain to put them up just because it lacks a simple thing like a strap to pull. No car is perfect, I had 5 cars already, all have had it's issues and annoying things that were badly engineered or made. For a 1rst car generation of a start up this is, somewhat expected to happen, and are plenty of exemples of this stuff happening in cars from manufacturers that should now better already.
I test drove an Ocean in the UK a couple of weeks ago, I really like the car and this was after your original review. I didn’t experience the issues highlighted, but whilst the sales guy was demonstrating the swivel screen, it crashed and got stuck in the super useful “diagonal blank screen” mode. They had to switch the car off then on again to reset, which it did. The main thing I didn’t like was the jittery ride which doesn’t expire confidence as the car doesn’t feel at all planted.
other than the risk of not getting critical software updates and charging stuff I think the car looks quite good, interior good, that landscape turning was great, if it works well with basics its great buy esp give then price decrease. I think M is simply too biased on them since they werent nice to him. You could easily do a quite nice review also these reviews just give only a a decent first impressions only

Ive had my Fisker Ocean One since Oct 2023. White on white like the one in this video. I love mine! I've never had issues with California mode or windows not working. The only issues ive had are the key fob not working on the 1st try and my vent clicks which is getting replaced soon. Yeah, software is a bit laggy sometimes, but i prefer driving this over my Lexus RX 450h FSport or either of my GT/Roush Mustangs. Btw, you can take the parking brake off by pushing the ((P)) button on the dash without your seatbelt on. It just beeps like any other car without your seatbelt.
I think the biggest issue for people is if the company is going under; Might be a great car but if there is no one to service the car, thats a huge deal breaker.
My wife and I have a Lexus rx450h and an NX. The one thing stopping either of us from alot of EV options we've looked at is the severe (in our/my opinion) drop in interior quality due to cost-cutting measures in EV's most often landing in that department. Just can't imagine being actively annoyed with many otherwise small aspects of a vehicle I drive every day.
It was the same story with Henrik Fiskers last car project, the Fisker Karma. The car was beautiful, but unreliable. And the company closed down within a year. When i saw the news about the Fisker Ocean I was very tempted to order one, because the price here in Denmark was really attractive. But knowing that Henrik Fisker was the man behind it, I didnt do it. The Ocean was delayed again and again, but then they proudly annonced that they had delivered it to their first customer. It turned out that their first "customer" was actually a co-founder of Fisker. And regular customers had to wait a few months further... Even though Henrik is from Denmark, just like me, and he has designed nice cars for BMW, Ford, and Aston Martin. I will never trust a thing that man is behind
Crazy times we live in, I thought I escaped day 1 updates when I stopped gaming. But now we have the automotive industry using the "it'll be in an update" excuse.
I received my 2.0 OS via an OTA (over the air) update. I even asked a service tech before if they were planning to send someone over but they mentioned there was no need since it was being rolled out OTA. There’s a new setting to toggle through for the boot up 24hr, 10 minutes, etc. to get around the seatbelt issue, you’ll have to press on the Parking button on the left near the light switches.
Just curious, what were you thinking? Like literally? If you've gotten the car for free, sure. Did you really, use your brain when buying? Or just jump on the hype train?
I preordered the car back in 2022 & it had all of the looks & features I wanted in my first electric car. I wanted to go with the Rivian but decided on the Fisker based off of their promises (magna build, 360 range, etc.). Surprisingly, my car hasn’t had major issues but the major issue now is the support from Fisker (service, parts, etc.) this is my second car & 4th available vehicle in my house. Wanted to make sure to call out that I’m not invalidating anyone else’s issues because for those owners, their experience sounded horrible (battery, loss of power, hoods flying mid drive, etc.)
@@crimsonstyles Got it, just a brand without any pedigree. Even if I were buying a bicycle from them I would still be careful, not to mention a car. It's good to know you're problem free! Maybe MB got literally a lemon lol.
Seatbelt safety seems like a feature that should be called out . The software is holding it back. Hardware the car does look pretty good. I think the follow up was a good idea. They should have maybe waited a little longer to release the car. Remember Top Gear and the original Tesla Roadster.
This is a very bad feature, yea, I get it, but stuff happens, the sensor on the belt could break, it could be an emergency, the belt could be damaged. Car still needs to drive, belt or no belt. This will inevitably lead to the car getting towed more than once, when it breaks, but the car is perfectly drivable otherwise.
I like the seatbelt thing, tbh. I've said it once and will say it again and again: that should be done more, not less. It is concerning the amount of accidents that have turned fatal because the driver wasn't wearing the seatbelt where I live
Okay, firstly. I'm very happy they were willing to work with you again to show the issues were mostly resolved via an update. But as I sat here watching, it dawned on me; how far off in the future would the AF channel becomes a patch notes review channel for these EVs? Because thats what they're basically making you do here. Isn't that what beta testing teams are for? Why must a well known car enthusiast on YT be subjected to public scrutiny regarding stock prices and other bogus claims(ugh, that got me so crossed). Why are they having these issues in the first place? Hey we fixed the walking up to the door bug... ready to review patch notes 2.1? You get my point, right?
@GHOSTSTARSCREAMM Did you miss how fucking pissed they were about his first video? It would have been entirely unsurprising if they simply ignored and blacklisted him out of anger
The thing you said in the end is the most important. If the company is going to cease to exist, nothing else matters. Who in their right mind would spend $50K+ on a car from a company that won’t be around to support it?
@@SchemeTeamSixThe whole point of EV's is that they're live service cars that get better over time. If they company isn't around anymore then there's almost zero point getting an EV. Rather get a Honda or Toyota and get a usable car for 10 if not 20 more years lol
It’s really disheartening to see yet another promising electric car company bite the dust. Fisker's story highlights a significant issue in the automotive industry today: the overpromise and underdelivery of software updates. The idea of a "2.0" update fixing all problems sounds great in theory, but in reality, continuous delivery and feature experimentation are crucial. Just look at the hassles faced by Ocean Extreme owners even after the 2.0 update - from mandatory manual updates to persistent Bluetooth and 4G connection issues. Not to mention, the safety quirks like the car shifting into park and unlocking doors randomly. It’s clear that shipping without a robust software foundation was a costly mistake for Fisker. Maybe if they had focused more on core functionalities rather than flashy features like rotating screens and California mode, things could have been different. It’s a tough lesson for new players in the EV market.
Vinfast had made actual hardware changes in addition to software fixes (not sure if it was a direct response to Donut Media, but I think their feedback was taken into consideration). The updated VF8 got decent reviews over the first version.
I just sold mine last Thursday. I really liked driving it and it was well built, but didn’t want to stick around with the uncertainty. And by uncertainty i mean Fisker throwing a Hail Mary trying to get investors despite not being able to provide trustworthy financials because they literally lost $ 150M of customer payments. THAT uncertainty. I was never able to get updates but I had a hardware issue that caused other oddities. Those issues seemed unique from other owners. It was eventually fixed in late Feb (I got it in Oct) What pissed me off was the complete runaround. Everyone said it was escalated in my weekly calls to the company, trying hard not to sound scripted. Not once was I able to talk to anyone at a higher level. The ones who provided a number kept leaving. Maybe a coincidence, but it wasn’t until I started speaking up on socials did they come out. So that’s similar to what was said about coming out to update. I signed up knowing there were risks and growing pains, but didn’t sign up for hospice care. Hoping the best for all those who stuck it out, some good people in the FB groups.

The Ultra version doesn't have the taco tray - so more room in the console - and doesn't have the roof solar panels. I like the glass roof better. Thanks for getting Fisker's attention - I hope they are able to fix everything even if in Chapter 11.
Besides the bad software, there’s some dubious hardware design decisions. Openable rear quarter glass? Rotatable display screen? Roof solar panels that generate 1 mile per day? These things just add cost and complexity for no real benefit. Designers doing things “because we can” rather than than stopping to ask “why”?
I guess I was one of the lucky ones who got the 2.0 update via OTC and without a Tech visit. I had my Ocean for 3 months now and I can agree with most of the reviews specifically about the key fob and lack of support and service. My car was delivered dirty and scratched and I am still waiting for them to fix the scratches. It is a fun, solid car to drive now that many of the software bugs are fixed but not all. If (big if) they survive, I also would not recommend it until they develop a solid service and support system for car owners.
Thanks Marques for doing another review of the Ocean w/ OceanOS 2.0. It’s amazing that you re-reviewed a vehicle again and it’s not even long term. Thanks for doing that. BTW, always love your videos. I own an Ocean One and managed to get 2.0 OTA without any technician visit and I’d have to say I must be one of the lucky ones as mine has dramatically improved. Other than the random every three days getting the charger port door is open, I’m loving the ride. Very disappointed on the outcome of the company but I’d say there’s so much potential given that other car companies took years to get to a better place. With that said, I’d say you were very fair in your second assessment. Props.
With the company about to go bankrupt, do you still intend to keep the car and if so, how would you go about servicing/maintaining/updating the car? A genuine question
In all genuinity, i would love to own this car with all its flaws. lovely color, plush soft interior, looks so good. Software issues sure can be sorted out in coming months.
I'm not sure about the hangup with the seatbelt feature. There are so many people who drive or ride without seatbelts, which increases the fatality rate not for just you but for other passengers. Is it annoying? probably, but for me, literally every time I sit in a car I'd have to stop myself from putting on the seatbelt since it's so automatic.
It's not a huge deal but there are edge cases where it's useful to be able to drive without a seatbelt, including low speed manoeuvring for eg swapping cars around in a driveway or garage (something Marques is likely to do a lot more given all the car reviews). Plus, the people who choose to drive without a seatbelt are actively avoiding or bypassing those features, and those of us who use one routinely don't require the reminder anyway as you said.
There are a lot of cars out there that won't let you drive without the seat belt on. Some unwise people buy fake buckles for that matter. This car looks nice, would love to drive it sometime, but I don't think there will be many in my city.
That regen bump thing happens in my 2017 Ford Focus Electric as well actually. Didn't quite know what it was until you described it here. It doesn't scare me anymore as I'm used to it and I always keep enough distance in front of me.
I should mention that the 2.0 software does not require a technician to go out to you unless you're in a car that has specific issues related to OTA. Successful updates with 2.0 happen OTA. My car updated over the air. Key fob works every time for me, which it did not use to. I guess Fisker's work needs to focus on the experience differences between their cars. Overall a good car.
I imagine there are a lot of different versions of hardware components in these early cars. I suspect a larger OEM was have scrapped a lot of hardware that ended up being used in production vehicles where it should not have been.
I wonder if they could/would open course the software before going out of business. If they did, one could imagine a storied second life where the community, giddy at the prospect, quickly fixes all the issues and then some and the car becomes a rare, first of it's kind hit. One can dream. I'm sure Fisker owners looking at resale value can dream as well.
I thought that too, but I suspect the NHTSA would have something to say about cars zipping along the road governed by software downloaded off a 13 year old's Github. Still, if the regulators can be persuaded to verify the software then why not? I don't think Fisker will be selling their IP for much, given the state of the software right now!
@@Jimpark74Yeah, unregulated software running around the street doesn't sound like the best idea. But isn't it basically the same thing with people running conventional cars with modded engines and internals?
This man is by far one of the most overrated and and least knowledgeable RUclipsrs in the car review world. It’s embarrassing how much he gets wrong in every video.
@@doom453 I subscribe to MKBHD’s RUclips channels and enjoy his content. But i don’t think his car reviews are great, especially compared to others on RUclips. He needs to realize how important it is that he gets all the details right in his car reviews bc of the influence he holds.
At least Fisker don't say that they're selling fully self-driving cars. Credit where credit's due. ;-) As to OTA (over the air software updates), I'm getting mine OTG (on the ground) in a couple of weeks, even though it was supposed to update OTA, and I have a VW ID5.
For those willing to take a gamble at a low proce; fisker has built over 10k and delivered 4700 units. This is enough to support a dedicated user community for replacement parts and shared community support. Look at the "Classic" Rav4-EV; 1997-2003;Toyota built only about 2500 units, some still on the road today, thanks to owners who love them and the deep well of knowledge they developed through the years to keep them rolling.
there is some truth there...we do live in the information age, generally anything can be ordered from anywhere online these days... and information sharing has never been so easy..
Sounds like they pretty much fixed it! A lot of the problems they've dealt with (missing OTA updates, missing information, buggy, laggy software etc) are basically the same ones that VW fought with for years with all of the junk that came out of CARIAD. The fact that Fisker has dealt with things faster than VW and the car seems like a much nicer place to be is pretty impressive! I really wish Fisker luck, at least better luck than they had in 2012 👍
100% agree with what you said about VW. I’ve got the unfortunate pleasure of owning an ID.4 and there’s been one OTA update in almost three years and ask that update was for was to prepare the car for future updates. VW is the worst.
I received my 2.0 software OTA on Easter Sunday (part I) and Tuesday overnight (part II). Both installed without incident. End result: My key fob is much improved, but not perfect. I now have Hill hold and it works awesome. I'm very happy. I hope they survive....
6:10 The current gen Jeep Grand Cherokees have this parking brake as a feature, but it can be disabled. Basically, the parking brake automatically engages upon going into park, and disengages when going into reverse or drive, but the seatbelt must be connected or the parking brake must be manually disengaged.
Where do you get your info from? I’ve had my Ocean since Oct 4 and it’s been updated to 1.10, 1.11, and 2.0 all were OTA. THERE WAS NEVER A TIME WHEN A TECH NEEDED TO COME AND INSTALL SOFTWARE…NEVER!
I just like the calm, relaxed informative delivery. The clear video and kick ass sound are just gravy. So many RUclipsrs are yelling and waving their arms around. This guys chill and that I appreciate.
I’m a IT manager who is often responsible for making buying decisions for a very large company. One of the key considerations for me when looking at niche solutions is to understand the small company strategic vision (go public, get bought, operate profitably, etc) and are they fiscally sound. I never used to worry about that with a car purchase, but now…
Fisker's small attention to details starts with a website, which, for example in Canada, redirects you to a UK website for some reason. Now with all price changes in US selling Ocean with original high prices makes no sense. But they still doing it. This company obviously has some fundamental management issues that lead to this current situation. No surprises.
Yeah - the dealer model is not going to be the saviour Fisker wanted. I found one Ocean at a dealer in Waterloo, Ontario, offering the high spec model for $98000 plus taxes, so $120000 all in. I don't think dealers are in any hurry to pass on the savings north of the 49th parallel.
Depends on the outcome. Give them a couple years and they will prob cease to exist. The first Fisker company doesn't exist any more. This is the dude's second car company named Fisker in 15 years. No way I would buy one just based on that.
@@heiner71 I wouldn't buy any electric car now. They are experimental vehicles at the time being. When I can get 400-500 miles on a charge (in any weather), cost the same as gasoline cars, battery replacement cost is reasonable, and won't set my house on fire, I will consider them.
For now. It could still go completely bust, unless someone bails it out. If you have seen the current EV marketplace, these things seem to have reached market saturation, at least at the current prices. Unless the world really needs 23 EV manufacturers, some of these things will fold for good, and this is a very likely candidate to be the next EV-1
I watched both vids and I got to say that I'm still considering buying this car especially due to its new affordability. Most of that stuff doesn't matter much to me. The Bluetooth was the only real issue for me and I'd have to figure out how to get the 2.0 to get that fixed, but that's about it for me. Repairs if needed might be a little tricky but for 1/2 the price of the cheapest Tesla, I think it's worth the gamble.
I absolutely love the Ocean! Can't wait to get mine! I feel your 1st review/experience may have jaded you a bit. 2.0 is a HUGE improvement and I wish they started deliveries with 2.0 off the bat. Would have probably changed a lot of people's negative opinions. I think a lot of the software issues you 1st had have been resolved and some remaining things are just subjective. While I do think this review was better than the 1st, I still think it is a little over critical and you're a bit bias to other makers. Really hoping Fisker survives! They have a ton of potential... 360 miles of range and a beautiful, well-built vehicle!
Thank you for the video. Fisker is still here. I hope they will be for many years, and very successful too. When they improve responsiveness for the door handles when you approach and the on-screen features, that will be really good.
Doubtful. These projects are massive. And are you willing to trust some 13 year old who makes an update to make it run like Grand Theft Auto game he uses?
I truly appreciate giving the vehicle another look and honest review. I has irked me you called this the worst car you ever reviewed, since the the day the video came out, because in context....you have reviewed some extraordinary cars, cars I very well may never afford, so from my context, yeah, probably is, not like you review Ford Escapes Chevy Blazers. But that wasn't the take away from the public. I want to be clear, this, on paper is my favorite EV out, has every feature I want in a car (sunroof that opens? wow what a concept), so i was bias. But then you dropped the Cybertruck gaffer taped door to keep it closed and acted like it was a revolution and I just couldn't. I question if you may have lost..."perspective". Or if it was ever the intent to review from a place of balance or just your perspective, which is completely fine. Perhaps I fell into a mode that this was auto review content. I have MUCH respect for you and your team, the content you bring, the work you all put in, truly!
Reminder that MKBHD is a Tesla and Rivian shill. He gets exclusive interviews with execs from both companies and early review samples. He’s made a lot of money off of both companies giving him these privileges over other reviewers.
@@kozad86 I wouldn’t go that far, maybe cognitive dissonance since he bought one. But I just feel like if I got a car with issues they say will be fixed in an upcoming software update I would be like damn, but fine. But if my door looked like the cybertrucks, I wouldn’t even take possession of it.
The car will take off without your seatbelt being on IF, you Press the Park Brake button on the dash and as such, it's simply a Safety issue built into the car. The Blue/Red screen is annoying I agree, but it's to show you when you are using Battery power (Red) and when your'e not (Blue). Your issue with the screen in Landscape is perfectly true, but the screen is only ever in that position if you want to sit in the car whilst it's not moving, say charging for instance - I tend to go for a walk!! And yes, I have an Ocean One and whilst it has it's issues, it is a great car to drive... I like to think it has personality and character and if you've ever owned a Jaguar, you'll understand that the Fisker is not the first car to have those traits. I applaud your stance to make a second screening, and I absolutely think what you've said is not incorrect, but I also think your first screening of the car (And Fisker need to take responsibilty for the incomplete vehicle they gave you) absolutely slaughtered the Brand when it was already heading down on it's knees! There are a lot of us that took the car and, paid full price for it, which in the UK was over £60k and I have no idea what will happen now, but the vehicle was as much about sustainabilty as anything else and in that respect, It'll be a sad day if the brand does fade away. Of course we'll have to assume that a lot more Plastic Bottles and Fishing Nets will remain in the Sea as a consequnece too!!! Just as an FYI though - Fisker are sending out the Engineers to install the Software
You're a brave man Marques! I applaud you for even giving Fisker the time of day to do a second review. Already, I can see the aftermath of Fisker owners hammering down on you in the comments but they all seem to forget that 1) Fisker approached you to re-review their car, and 2) Fisker provided you with the car and it would have been their onus to provide one with everything working and all the bugs fixed, and finally, 3) that the communique about OTA updates and technicians rolling out updates was made by Fisker employee themselves and not simply conjecture on your part. Like one commenter said: .when you buy a lemon and get angry for people pointing out that its a lemon. Nevertheless, good on Fisker for attempting to correct their position with a second review!! I tip my hat to both them and you, sirs!
Regarding the bump issue. Hyundai do it also. The classic Ioniq was bad but Kona is actually pretty good. I believe the motor is being protected from the bump by turning off regen. Overall the Fisker looks great. We even get them in the UK. Shame they are a bit rich, otherwise would consider them.
@@WeatherManToBe - Tesla at first used induction motors for front and rear. Now they use one permanet magnet motor and one induction motor. This allows for the most efficiency and range. Ioniq uses permanent magent motors. I don't see how the motor type would cause the power to drop over bumps. Seems like a design issue, maybe fixable in software.
If you’re entering the electric space where Tesla rules in software and charging, you’d better come good. These cars are so good looking it’s a shame they might go away.

Laughable little mirrors and non-existent glove boxes are not software though.

The company is 0:01 dying again just like Henrik Fiskar's first company because he does not know how to set up and properly manage a company.

@@frankohashiguchi if you getting 1mile per day it's 365 miles per year not bad to get full tank of electricity for "free"
2. You can manually push the button on the left side of the steering wheel to turn the parking brake off even if your seatbelt is not on
⚠ - If you are stopped at a light and you shift too much in your seat, the car shifts into P and unlocks the doors.
⚠ - If you open the driver side door it shifts into park and unlock the other doors.
3. Bluetooth/Audio still has reliability bugs.
4. I still lose 4G connection for multiple hours in a downtown area. When I do, both clocks on the vehicle's screen get out of sync and are both wrong (minutes are always accurate though.🤔)
⚠ - What happens to the 4G connection if Fisker goes out of business?
5. It now supports multiple profiles but the profiles in the car don't seem to store much besides A/C settings 😞
6. Spending engineering resources on a screen that only rotates when I'm in park and on fancy things like California mode was not the best move considering the state of the core experiences in the car's software.
7. I did get locked in the car multiple times as did my wife. Hasn't happened since 2.0 update
I've said it before, the single most concerning thing for me was the promise of a "2.0" update to fix all the problems.

Fisker might be going out of business? I guess that's fisker's karma

So while I love my Ocean and think it could become a great car someday if the company survives long enough, I can't recommend anyone to buy this car until the company's future is clearer.
hahaha, auto world riiight. I laughed pretty hard. Thank you for that. @@aimlessdrive8723

Thanks Markes. Just keep on doing what you do best than others: reviewing with objectivity not being subjective. Your honest are realistic approach on any product is our treasure.
I do not know if Fisker included such a button.
there's a P button where you can disengaged
Yup. MKBHD is just insanely CLUELESS about cars and is reviewing them like he knows what he’s talking about. And idiots trust him.
Indeed, pressing the Ocean's 'P' button releases the parking brake. You can move the car w/o a seat belt.
In 3.0 they will patch it so P gear workaround will be fixed, and you will have to put that damn seatbelt xD
It's a thing in my Toyota as well
Was a thing in my Alfa Romeo Giulia as well.
Functional Safety!
Yeah it seems like a pretty reasonable safety feature honestly. So if you're just sitting in the car getting situated or grabbing stuff before you get out and you accidentally hit the brake pedal the car doesn't start rolling down a hill or something.
The same in my Ford S-Max.
Yes and some people don't want to put on seatbelts. Small details like this may nudge them to do it a few more times than they would have otherwise. My old diesel will start screaming at me if I drive more than 20 meters without the belt engaged. This is a useful feature that more cars should have.
For those who are willing to roll the dice, Fisker cut the price on all models of the Ocean as of March 29
Model - Old MSRP - New MSRP - Difference
Ocean Sport $38,999 $24,999 -$14,000
Ocean Ultra $52,999 $34,999 -$18,000
Ocean Extreme $61,499 $37,499 -$24,000
Honestly if that is a strategy to sell the cars at a loss so that they can keep afloat, I don't have a lot of faith in the company.
There's an FOO with 1800 miles at a dealer close by for under 40K, never thought I would see that considering the FOO was not discounted by Fisker
Wait for the bottom and buy for its battery as DYI projects for off the grid.
@@TwoHands12 Isnt that every startup's strategy? Rivian and Lucid still lose tens of thousands for every car. you eventually profit, but never off the first 10k vehicles
There is no way they will survive at a $25 K price point for an electric car, and this will be hell to maintain when there are no parts for it. Just wait for the used model to fall to $10 K or less, if you want to gamble
What happens in 10 years when these hoses rot out and can't be replaced as no Fisker anymore?
I work in an automotive company, and work with people that are testing the car's software. The issues you are experiencing are issues that are present on the earliest softwares of the system, and in my company we don't release the car or deploy the software until the issues are corrected or are harmless enough for the custom not to be bothered. What Fisker has done would be absolutely unacceptable for my company's standard, and should be unacceptable in general for the automotive industry

I bet the engineers didn't want to release the car like this but management/board/shareholders pushed it through.
Why the automatic brakes only work if:
A) Adaptive cruise control is set up and on
-it only lets me activate it if I'm driving at more than 50km/h
B) the car needs to be driving at more than 40km/h or it will STOP the assistance and as a result STOP BRAKING.
The interior
The car has a wook, supposedly to put your shopping bags, that straight up is useless as it can't be used when the trunk is closed because its right there were the door closes.
How many time will the screens spin until it needs a $1,500 repair?
I disagree with you, the jittery ride absolutely does expire confidence
Expire, lol
i really want this car to be good, I genuinely think the design is sick
other than the risk of not getting critical software updates and charging stuff I think the car looks quite good, interior good, that landscape turning was great, if it works well with basics its great buy esp give then price decrease.

I will never trust a thing that man is behind

my vw golf also has the seatbelt thing, pretty common i suppose
This is a very bad feature, yea, I get it, but stuff happens, the sensor on the belt could break, it could be an emergency, the belt could be damaged. Car still needs to drive, belt or no belt. This will inevitably lead to the car getting towed more than once, when it breaks, but the car is perfectly drivable otherwise.

Saying he’d take the Vinfast VF8 over the Ocean is a HUGE blow to Fisker OOOPH

Besides the bad software, there’s some dubious hardware design decisions. Openable rear quarter glass? Rotatable display screen? Roof solar panels that generate 1 mile per day? Glad you at least gave it another shot. Glad to see they fixed a bunch of stuff. Hope they survive and make it better.
You did this to yourself.
I liked california mode!
The newer Suburbans will also not engage Drive unless you buckle up, so I would say, yes, it is a "feature"
I dont know a single person that doesn't wear seat belts

I still hope Fisker can make it. The Ocean seems like a good starting point.
My brother in Christ, the company died this week, move on it’s joever
Or a good ending point
I wonder if they could/would open course the software before going out of business. If they did, one could imagine a storied second life where the community, giddy at the prospect, quickly fixes all the issues and then some and the car becomes a rare, first of it's kind hit.
One can dream. I'm sure Fisker owners looking at resale value can dream as well.
Definitely should happen but also won't happen.
Open sourcing a code base like this would likely be a very large task that Fisker has little incentive or cash to fund.
Doubt NHTSA would be happy about that since safety functions could be screwed up. How do they force a safety recall on user modified software?
GM also makes you buckle up before it lets you enter drive but I believe it is a feature that can be disabled.
Mr. Fisker, a 2.0 Ocean review has hit the MKBHD channel
*proceeds to launch the Global War On Influence*
Underseat storage seems like a smart idea in a country with such gun happy police.
those underwear hatches are "suicide doors"
rt, but nor do we (consumers) want to perform acrobats to grab our hand sanitizers...
I had never a problem or a feeling like described by Marques while breaking in almost 2.000 km
This man is by far one of the most overrated and and least knowledgeable RUclipsrs in the car review world. It’s embarrassing how much he gets wrong in every video.
@puchmercedesg5568 NHTSA is investigating this issue, Marques is not the first to notice it. It was reported by Fisker Ocean owners.
@Luciferisking512 You do know this is one guys opinion right? Someone who just likes cars but may not have a huge background in them
@@doom453 I subscribe to MKBHD’s RUclips channels and enjoy his content. But i don’t think his car reviews are great, especially compared to others on RUclips.
He needs to realize how important it is that he gets all the details right in his car reviews bc of the influence he holds.
This guy is an idiot. He should not be reviewing cars.
At least Fisker don't say that they're selling fully self-driving cars. Credit where credit's due. ;-) As to OTA (over the air software updates), I'm getting mine OTG (on the ground) in a couple of weeks, even though it was supposed to update OTA, and I have a VW ID5.
I have the same 'feature' in 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy, parking brake didn't release itself if you are not buckled up.
Fascinating. I wonder why an annoying chime isn't enough? Hopefully that sensor never goes bad.
Surprised MKBHD doesn’t know much about the car industry? Lol
Who cars about a user community. I won't be a guinea pig for car manufacturers.
The best Tech reviewer, ver transparent, straightforward.
I received my 2.0 software OTA on Easter Sunday (part I) and Tuesday overnight (part II). Both installed without incident. End result: My key fob is much improved, but not perfect. I now have Hill hold and it works awesome. I'm very happy. I hope they survive....
Really, we are discussing the Key fob on a car that cost 50k. I wish I could get into the head of people that buy these cars.
Why did you buy this?
6:10 The current gen Jeep Grand Cherokees have this parking brake as a feature, but it can be disabled. Basically, the parking brake automatically engages upon going into park, and disengages when going into reverse or drive, but the seatbelt must be connected or the parking brake must be manually disengaged.
It's the same here, if you manually disengage it, you can still drive without a belt on.
I hope that Fisker is successful. Quality cars at this price point need to exist.
Quality...?
They are not cheap
Quality? Price point? This is a going- out- of- business sale.
Again* @@jamesengland7461
I'll buy an EV (I really want to) when they hit 20K, that's for the majority of people I'm guessing
Where do you get your info from? I’ve had my Ocean since Oct 4 and it’s been updated to 1.10, 1.11, and 2.0 all were OTA. THERE WAS NEVER A TIME WHEN A TECH NEEDED TO COME AND INSTALL SOFTWARE…NEVER!
The fact that Henrik Fisker added a "taco tray" as an actual feature, I should have known that this car was doomed from the start.
Check out the Mercedes E class level SUV...taco trays there too. But I do have some reservations about it being in this vehicle.
Bs. That tray is for productive people. Not lames as yourself.
Don't rivian have them too?
@@michaelberg7201no, Rivian does not have "taco trays"
Its a gimmick
It was a good attempt. I hope they make it.
Video and mic quality of the iPhone 15 pro really is amazing!
I think it’s a great looking car. Solidly built with a nice interior software can be easily updated at a later date, hardware can’t.
It will be worthless in a few years.
@@femaledeer Try a few months, actually.
If Fisker declares bankruptcy, it does not mean it will not exist. This is an important distinction.
Depends on the outcome. Give them a couple years and they will prob cease to exist. The first Fisker company doesn't exist any more. This is the dude's second car company named Fisker in 15 years. No way I would buy one just based on that.
So you are going to buy one?
My brother in Christ, the company is already dead, it’s joever, move on
I watched both vids and I got to say that I'm still considering buying this car especially due to its new affordability.
Why would you buy a car with know issues? You must be bored.
I think it was really cool to give Fisker a second review, but also, I’m here for the comments! 🍿😂
So many fanboys with 0 clue about cars. Just like the reviewer they’re watching lol
"I cant believe they didnt do earth, wind and fire..." *sigh*
😂😂😂 copywright though.
They should have!
You wouldn't want "fire" on an electric car 🤣
He stole that from the comments - smh
Best and most honest review, this guy saved a lot of people for purchasing a problem.
Nice review!
Thank you for your transparency and not caving to conform to criticism
Thank you for the video. Fisker is still here. I hope they will be for many years, and very successful too. When they improve responsiveness for the door handles when you approach and the on-screen features, that will be really good.
Fisker remains a revolutionary car. I'm waiting for the return Fisker's Stock quote to buy shares.
I wonder if the DIY community will pick up the software updates for Fiskar as a project.
yes, fancybear 2.1b
Doubtful. These projects are massive. And are you willing to trust some 13 year old who makes an update to make it run like Grand Theft Auto game he uses?
The Fisker Ocean 1.0 was the first video of yours I viewed. I'm happy to see a 2.0 video.
The silliest thing about the gaffer tape is that it was just a loose bolt... you can tighten it with an allen key. Gaffer tape is some scary BS.
He simped SO HARD for the Cybertruck. Must've gotten one for free with a pile of money on the passenger seat.
And many cars can do OTA updates on 2.0
@@renebastians181
I’m pretty sure my car was doing OTA updates on the original software anyway, but it definitely does so with version 2…
Oh man I really hope that Fisker servives, it’s such a good looking car 😢👏
Regarding the bump issue. Hyundai do it also. The classic Ioniq was bad but Kona is actually pretty good. I believe the motor is being protected from the bump by turning off regen. Overall the Fisker looks great. We even get them in the UK. Shame they are a bit rich, otherwise would consider them.
Seems like a design error. My 2013 Model S didn't do it nor any Tesla after that so it is not something that all EVs do.
@@tesla_tapI think that's because telsa uses permanent magnet motors and everyone else uses electromagnet, like an alternator.
For 25k it might just be the bargain of the century
The century is still young.
You get what you pay for
That's if the software holds up well over time. I'd be too worried about the unsupported software not working in 5-10 years.
I will sell you a bridge.
If you’re entering the electric space where Tesla rules in software and charging, you’d better come good. These cars are so good looking it’s a shame they might go away.
Thanks for the updated video! What kind of microphone do you use for these videos?
It’s a Hollyland mic 🎤
