Taking notes: 1) Software is horrible, annoying, obsolete design, 2) Vegan seats' upholstery is bad quality 3) Noisy vents 4) low-framed cameras (old tech) 5) acceleration slow responsive 6) heavier than the competition 7) driving dynamics stinks (not funny driving) 8) Worst car ever tested (EV) 9) Too expensive for the kind of manure (better buy a second hand Tesla, KIA, or Hyundai) Tomorrow its stonks will plunge faster than Niagara falls.
As someone who's been driving a base model car from 2010 for the past 12 years, I have a very different perspective. I was very impressed with this car most of the way through the video. Almost every complaint he has either didn't register to me as a problem at all or I just don't care about. Plastic panels? My car has worse. Gotta press a button to unlock? Honestly that's how I prefer it. Heated and ventilated seats in front and back is awesome, you almost never see that. A terrible UI in the car? It has Android Auto, and a backup camera, so it's already a massive upgrade over what I got. Honestly this video sold me on this car as a good budget option, with no real significant downsides (for me), until he said it cost $50,000. I was assuming this was a budget car so it was more affordable. Suddenly those minor nitpicks and complaints seem more reasonable for such an expensive car.
I can totally understand that perspective when comparing it feature-wise to something that old. Anything from 2024 is going to be a massive upgrade compared to what you have. The problem is that, when you are looking at a new car, you need to try and remember to compare it to what else is available on the market. There are much better options for an EV in this price bracket (Ioniq 5, EV6, Polestar 2, etc), which is what he was getting at. That's just something to be aware of, because just thinking "it's better than what I have now" is an easy way to wind up with something that, while it is an improvement over what you have, is a bad deal or even a bad product in terms of the market in general.
I worked at Vinfast’s first NA store and god it had its issues. It’s improved a lot though, I test drove it a couple months back. Although the price point at face value is pretty high, you could lease it for like 250 a month which is crazy
I got a 2023 vinfast vf8 plus on dec 26 of last year. I can say the software is a bit buggy but this car isnt as bad as most yt reviewers put it out to be. Its been 4 months now and we are quite happy with it, other than the software where we update it at the dealer every 3 months to keep it work most efficient. There is a 10 years warranty so i trust. Definitely worth 65k canadian dollars.
Congrats! It is good to see a Canadian owner’s comment (I’m from Calgary, AB). Why did you purchased VF8? What do you think about Model Y? I have no BEV yet, but after many years I think Tesla still has no competition and if I’m going to buy something, I’m 100% sure about it it will be a Model 3 or a Model Y (and NOT a Leaf, NOT a Mach-E, NOT a Bolt, NOTHING from Hyundai/KIA).
that fan blowing might be a feature some cars have of blowing air through the vents after you lock your car, to prevent moisture and any growth. my new hyundai has it too, sometimes i come back into the car after a quick errand and the fans are still going. vinfast is from vietnam where it’s pretty humid so it might be that!
I was just going to say that. After being in a humid climate I would have appreciated that feature in a car. Get that nasty wet air out so it does not make the car stink over time. In Vietnam I can totally see where this would not be optional.
That doesn’t make sense. Cool air-conditioned air is dry (very low humidity). If you’re gonna blow air from outside, you’re gonna fill it with humid air. Given that the cabin is still cold right after you stop the car, what you’ll get is condensation inside your cabin. You might be right about ventilating new air into the cabin to avoid smell but it definitely does not remove moisture
We have VFe34 and VF8 ( base and lux ) here, Vietnam in Xanh SM ( Uber - like app ) , it works well. I would say it takes time to see the quality, but the frame is great😂, i saw lots of car crashes and VF8 hold it well.
Having just spent 5 weeks in Vietnam and just about to leave, I've seen so many of these! They've even got the VinBus and Vinfast scooters that look gorgeous. there's a Vinfast taxi company here who use the bikes and cars exclusively. I believe they've even got a charging network.
@@shortazn97they actually stop producing ICE. they are trying to be a big ev, software In Auto is still bad. but at least its improving. everything seems to be homegrown software and not borrowed patterned. so, give it time. they still don't have proper design language for the software.
I've actually driven this car, unlike most of the commenters who I suspect are regurgitating other content creators' opinions, and I gotta agree with you. No, it's not exceptional in any sense of the word, but it's... fine. Certainly it's not the utter disaster some commenters seem to believe it is, at least. It's a mediocre transportation appliance whose biggest flaw is the asking price relative to the competition-- at $30-35k it would actually measure up. But if I bought (or more likely, leased) this car and gave it to my mom to replace her aging CRV, she would drive it without complaint, with the one wildcard being reliability of course.
Excellent points! I think it's prob low standard for the EVs in that price range...but it's still prob superior experience to a ICE competitor. Price it lower VinFast...make it a disruptor and then you will start selling!
AFAIK, creep mode is supposed to control whether or not the car creeps forward, not prevent you from rolling backward. Not that it's not something that shouldn't even happen in the first place in an EV.
Current owner of 2 VF8 here in SoCal. Picked up my SDI Plus a year ago and CATL Plus 2 months ago. At 2:30: with key fob near you, you can kick to open trunk for Plus trim. Or select trunk in the car buddy on infotainment to open trunk. At 7:27: to unlock car without key fob, you can press that small black button on door handle. Coming from Subaru with keyless entry, i had to get used to clicking that button. At 9:58: you could drive without seatbelt if you release e-brake underneath the steering column. Agree on fps for camera. VF doesnt have auto hold. It only has hill assist. To activate, you gotta slam on the brake hard so it holds vehicle for a few secs before you switch your foot from brake to accelerator. Again, i was spoiled w Subaru’s auto hold and was something i had to get used to in vf8. I took delivery of 2nd VF8 due to their promotion of $300/month for Plus trim for 36 months. The residual value to pay out at the end is cheap enough that makes the 2023 Plus just shy of $40k. Being the new kid on the block, VF has tried really hard to please customers. In California, their call center is 24/7, so i call to report problems any time of the day. They then send tech to my house/work, drop off loaner and drive my car to service center. After service is done, tech comes out to my work/house to pick up loaner and drop off my car. This level of service is top-notch for me. I have videos on my channel of some of my road trips. I have driven to Scottsdale az, las vegas, big bear and NorCal between my 2 VF8s. ❤
Lots of pro car reviewers have panned it, but many of them were comparing at a time when they only drove basic city version, and based on much higher price point. Nice to hear from you and actual long time owner. even many of marques peeves can seem to be corrected with eventual software version upgrades. What things annoy you the most?
I picked up my 2023 VF8 Plus at a Vinfast dealership about over 3 weeks ago, and the lot was full of VF8 units. Two days ago I drove my VF8 past the dealership, on my way to work and the lot was totally empty. Curiously, I didn't know what was going on. I stopped by and asked them if they were moving. They told me that they had had no VF8 left and were waiting for the new batch to come. About 100 Vinfast VF8s flew off the lot like hot cakes! Unbelievable! Thanks to Marques for the Vinfast review!
@@JacksonKillroy I think Auto Focus is a little unique, though. I’ll bet there are a lot of people who follow tech channels but don’t follow car channels… except this one, because they trust Marques and have found value in his other reviews.
Physical buttons. That's the number one reason I can think of for buying this car. Also, nice amenities with the seats. That's a pretty important amenity set. Heated AND cooled, front AND rear? Ten years ago, that was Rolls Royce options territory. Ten years from now, it'll probably be standard on EVERY car down to the MItsubishi Mirage.
The only physical buttons on this car are window switches, hazards, and volume knob (with integrated power button). Everything else is through the center screen. Not sure what you mean by that.
I will go out on a limb and say many (not all) Vietnamese people are bad at naming and branding. For example, 'Vina' is a common prefix in brand names here, from big brands to small ones. It's fine most of the time. VinFast, on the other hand, I can picture the Chairman/CEO, or someone high up, in his office, thinking Vin for Vingroup (the parent company), and Fast because it's a car brand, and going 'aha!', while mispronouncing it as Vin-Phat. They justify it by saying VinFast is actually an acronym but I believe it's a backronym, because most of Vingroup's companies all have 'Vin' in front of it, like VinBigData, VinUniversity, VinSchool, VinFa. I've mentioned it to my (Vietnamese) friends, and they seemingly can't understand why I see it as a problem when it comes to branding and pronunciation.
The funniest thing is that they keep naming their car vf something like so it's a vinfast vinfast 8. At least some of the car name here make sense and doesn't sound stupid when you say it out loud
My family work for Vin and they force their employees to buy 2 vinfast per employees’ family 😂 nobody buys this overpriced trash so they have to keep forcin. The only Vinfast car runs on the streets are either owned by Vin employees or VF Taxi brand. No real demand so they have to resort to these cheap trick to push sales or create demand by creating a Taxi company 😂
11:46 Marques, what you just complained about was a lack of "Hill Assist", not bad "Creep Mode" All creep mode means is the car moves slowly without you needing to press the gas pedal, not that it will stop your car from free-rolling on hills.
The problem is, there's a delay in creep mode. when you let go of the brake pedal it takes a second for the creep to kick in, while you are rolling down a hill. Where this is most annoying is parallel parking on a hill. (In other cars you can hit the accelerator and break at the same time, but when the brake pedal is pushed the accelerator is canceled out.) This can get very annoying.
have had 4 tesla. got vf8 for cheap 9k 3 years lease. Been driving it everywhere really enjoy it! first 3 days was hard but you get use to it. Alot of people ask what it is and it looks really good at night with Led V strips. Feels nice being in something no one else is in also. UI sucks , And tesla drivetrain is better but i thoroughly look forward to driving the car over the model y. Model y suspension is unforgiving to passengers.
Absolutely... I don't really know why we always look at plastic interior as something cheap If so then Teslas are fucking crap man My model 3 is hella cheap in the interior
@@dimamelihov6434 I think the issue's not plastic, but cheap-looking plastic. And his main complaint wasn't really the plastic, but the cheap-looking vegan leather everywhere.
Great feedback… what I am hearing is that there are a lot of good things, but need some work on the software. Would never get a model Y as I am not a fan of the shape of the Tesla materials. I love the semblance of a regular gas vehicle as my only need for an EV is the drive train. Not sure why manufacturers are putting so much Tech in EVs because Tesla started that crap. I just needed a regular car with an Electric drive train, normal door handles etc. I like this VF8 car
As a Vietnamese whose relatives owned a VF9 and I just got a ride in that car this very afternoon, I can tell you that the software is desperately in need of an massive overhaul to say the least, while all it seem nice and shiny, the icon and some buttons are just in a counter-intuitive placement once you start using it, and don't even get me started about the confusing messages and error icons popped up everywhere on the display when there's a problem. Sure they have customer support on their app, but it's still can't deny the fact that the software put up an incorrect errors messages which make thing that much harder to searching for the real problems. Anyways, yes, the company is still young, so give them time, they already short on customers who made the switch so I imagined this would take long, but I still hoped for the best for them though, since they are the pioneer force of EV in Vietnam right now.

I would never buy a Vinfast in it's current state. But compared to Fisker, I respect the effort they went through to try and rapidly address some of the issues like suspension. That they would go so far as to implement hardware changes and retrofits, not just software updates, I think speaks to how hard they're trying. Could have saved themselves a lot of headache with more testing, but there's still something commendable in the company. Hope they learn from this and their future launches are more compelling.
Yeah. I'm not quite sure about why he was considering that a negative. I think a widget based home screen makes perfect sense and is quite functional. What he was showing didn't look cartoony to me.
@@aptwo916Because you aren’t supposed to play with your phone while driving? Sure, you can always mount your phone, but that kind of defeats the point of the push for big touch screens in cars.
@@aptwo916 Can’t help but wonder … do you own a car? Your question doesn’t make sense. I’m wondering if you’re asking it because you’re unfamiliar with cars.
Marques (and probably many others) didn't notice, but the infotainment on VF8 is actually Android, just the UI is super custom, except for text entry fields, where it's clearly the same as on Android. Also, in service mode it even shows the Android build string
No matter what anyone says, it's just a matter of personal preference. I am actually leasing one and I love my VF8, which has met all my goals including its driving range on a single charge and my budget. In addition, with many high-tech features including HUD, 360 camera, ADAS, heated and cooled seats, blind spot warning, the VF8 is one of the best cars I have ever had since my last hybrid.
I think the promotion is over, but had you gone through the lease for $250 a month, the buyout at the end is under $19k. That's under 30k, and a hell of a financing plan for the 1st 3 years.
@@ohya101 I pay roughly $9/day including all the taxes, inventory and registration fees with a 3 year lease to own agreement. After 3 years, If I like the EV, I'll buy it. If I don't, I'll switch to another Vinfast model like Vinfast Wild, which I really like because of its futuristic design. Paying about $9/day to lease a brand new electric midsize SUV with many high tech features is cheaper the price of an In N Out double double cheese burger meal. The EV has been great so far after over 500 miles. In fact, Vinfast VF8 is better than expected. Regarding the promotion, you need to call them.
That's the vf9, the 55k price tag was when it was first introduced as a concept/pre-prod car back in 2021, not final price. It's still not here in the US yet but was released in Vietnam last year 2023. I heard they'll sell it here mid year. If the price is still 79k it's gonna be a tough fight for them.
yes you are correct but this is America where u are free to make choice and competitor are equal so for the price it’s his job to tell what good/bad and what other’s competitor’s at in favor of customer. Of course we must filter information and not take everyone words completely.
@@Zirynx EV6 and EV 9 are awful. Cheap fabric and plastic design not to mention the EV6 body is Aluminum while Vinfast body make by Steel like Merc or BMW. that's why they are heavier than other competitor.
as a Vietnamese, seeing our country made product is being reviewed by one of the biggest tech RUclipsr on the planet right now is such a privilege. Thank you for all your feedback and I hope that Vinfast would take this seriously to improve the car in its future models like they did with the one that Donut reviewed
TBH... if the software is "bad" because you don't like the graphics then LOL. It didn't seem that bad and compared to VW EV's or just older cars in general, it's good. In the end most of the usage of the screen will be setting the music, HVAC and navigation (usually being google maps). If it does these things well, it's good enough and everything else is just a plus. It really is unfortunate though that this is the state of automotive software that it being functional is "good", kind of frustrating. The framerate of cameras is eh, but at the same time it does not matter that much. About driving though, that does matter - safety aids should not be annoying and the driver should feel confident driving the car at least somewhat sportily at 50K. One more thing - Tesla not including a HUD is a travesty, I have not heard of a single customer or a reviewer not wishing for it, at best they will settle, but if this was an option priced around 1K or even more, most buyers would option for a HUD. It really surprises me that Tesla did not add it in the refresh as it would remove the last nag from customers. At least there are after market solutions.
One thing I have noticed about these VF8 reviews on various channels........many reviewers panned it, some were optimistic. Same ratio for commenters. However, basically ALL of the commenters who actually purchased and driven them were very happy with it. And I would say those should carry the most weight! Its hard to find a buyer who has any regrets so far
This is the best comment I have read among all the comments here, I am Vietnamese, I feel proud when my country's first product is discussed by international friends like this , of course there are even mixed opinions.
Japanese and Korean cars succeeded because they were cheap and they improved their reputation. People laughed at Japanese cars in the 70s for being cheap, small, and lacking in power. However, the oil crises quickly put an end to that: _Within a decade_ the Japanese automotive industry became feared. In contrast, Korean cars were laughed at for being cheap, ugly, and unreliable. It took them _two_ decades to _start_ to get over that reputation and that was after they became more serious about hiring engineers, designers, and executives from more established companies. Also, at the same time the 2008 global financial crisis helped move _cheap_ cars. The common point between those two cases is that they were cheap. If the price is low enough, people will buy them. Look at how many people fly Spirit despite loathing them. On the other hand, VinFast is not cheap. At 47k before tax and docs there are plenty of lower priced options, both ICE and EV. Without a cheaper car, there's no reason to suspect that VinFast will repeat the cycle you propose. It's far more likely for Chinese automakers to be next.
@@Rapido20 Absolutely not. You watch. Ford is $12 and that's the highest it's been in years. Now in TSLA case, it's been more than a YEAR that stock has tanked by $130 per share and even with Model Y, Semi, 3 refresh and Cyber it has not budged - that's the stock you should be worried about. Thankfully I took a ride in the roadster 15 years ago and bought stupid early so I'm still ahead, but on paper lost mucho. 👁🗨
As an EV owner, as fun as the instant torque is, I've learned that it isn't a feeling everyone enjoys. Especially people who don't regularly drive EVs. I can see why a new company would want to garner more new customers by making the car feel more familiar.
That makes no sense in sport mode, though. It should be an option, because instant torque can literally save your life. For example, you're in an intersection and you see a car who ran a red light barreling toward you. With instant torque, you escape unscathed. With delay, you get T-boned at 55 mph, roll over, and either get seriously injured or maybe even die.
That instant torque is also hard on motor ,every Model Y owner i watched allready had motor replaced after just 2 years,ok is in warranty so payed 0 but what when warranty expires
The same event or object can be evaluated differently by different people; some may judge it as A while others may judge it as B. There are those who may love it, and those who may hate it. We should respect all opinions and evaluations. Whether it is right or wrong, it will surely contribute to making something better.
I actually really like the display. It's simple and easy to use. I don't want to have to dig through layers of things to find a basic setting. The AC vents are fantastic compared to Tesla. Also from what I can see the panels actually line up which seems like an expectation thing.....but Elon still can't figure it out. Honestly, if I could afford a car and my choice was between this and the Model Y.....I'll take the VinFast
I got one at a special discount 2023 model for 38k......the plus version. Plus super low interest rate. At that price I think it's worth the quirks. Some of these things will improve with software
I'm a Vietnamese, i know this and the other products is not worth to compare with another company, but I'm so proud of it, from nothing now we can finally made a car by our own company. I just want everyone to know that everybody start somewhere!
Vietnam got lots of talents and potential. I´m from Vietnam too and got many relatives being smart enough to do something... I can just imagine the competition and talents in Vietnam. I am so proud of this
I've hated the trend in UI (particularly championed by Tesla) to make EVERYTHING different shades of gray. It is incredibly un-intuitive especially when driving. Colours may look "clownish", but they let you determine what you're looking at quickly without the need to focus on it. Some egregious examples in our Tesla: Is Bluetooth connected? Light gray for 'on', Very light gray for 'off'. (could easily put a blue oval behind the icon for 'on') Is a button toggled on, off or is it disabled? All 3 button states are just different shades of gray. On the map, water is gray, land is light gray, buildings are very light gray. The screen can display millions of colours, but the only colour being used is gray. I'll take the clown show any day.
@@tonyn3227 Let tesla know that not everyone sees things the same and a few contrast level selections are needed. Requests like this are answered on X. "I will pass it on the the UI team" or such.
The not being able to put the vehicle in gear without being buckled up is something I experienced with a Chevy truck that I rented from U-Haul. I can see it as an additional safety measure, especially in countries that require you to wear your seatbelt.
Honestly this seems way more fine to use and drive than the Fisker. Most people don't really need a sporty fast car. I don't see many major issues, even the beeping is pretty normal nowadays from what I can tell.
He seriously seems like a Tesla sheel at this point. It's a shame that Fisker didn't solidify their software before delivery, but way back Tesla also launched with software issues and have a terrible maintenance record. How's that fsd working out? In this context the cybertruck review seemed incredibly generous. As for a reason to choose this car over a model y? Elon fing Musk, end of story. The real question is why take a model y over any of the other great competitors?
@@markthomas6794 The reality is its impossible to not recommend Tesla over anything else. Literally no one has given the VF8 a good review ... as for the other competitors, the reality is while Tesla's cars are only so-so compared to some competitors, the Supercharger network is still an order of magnitude better than any competitor. That's why I ended up buying a Model Y even though it was my least favorite of the 7 cars I tested. A competitor could be half the price, be made of wood and leather, massage me and dispense caviar; none of that matters if your battery is dead and the only working EA charger is stuck at
It goes to show, American innovation is still king. All the other companies can try to copy but the software experience is going to be the differentiating factor. Props to Vietnam for building a car (that's a good sign for any country to do), but price it competitively!
The UI is GOOD. Leave old tablet UI alone :D It's a car, not a smartphone. There are strange people, like me, who see many of cons of this car, as its plusses.
100% agree…that uncomplicated and intuitive UI is how all infotainment should be designed. Tesla’s UI is a nightmare from a customer experience perspective.
I love this car. The aesthetic of modern car that happens to be an EV is very much preferred to the blatant EV design that many auto manufacturers decide to go with.
Unpopular opinion - this car is what you'd get if Toyota or Honda made an EV version of the Rav4 or CRV. Everything you need, nothing you don't. The interior of my 2018 Corolla seems about on par with this so I'd be perfectly happy. That said the price doesn't seem to line up with what I'd expect an EV Rav4 or CRV to be. For that I'd expect the reliability and refinement that comes with Toyota and Honda and Vinfast has a lot to go in that regard though most of Marques' complaints seem like they would be relatively easy to fix and not anything needing a major overhaul.
I live in NC near where the factory is. Really want them to succeed to help the local area but sounds like the writing is on the wall for their long term success
Rooms if improvement are not a sentence to death however trying to ignore them is. I just hope Vinfast is young enough to respond the feedbacks to stay on the game.
His review of this and the Fisker aren't as bad as he initially made them sound. Plenty of flaws and reasons to go with the competition, which is a big deal and might be enough for them to fail, but it's not like they are terrible cars. The flaws mentioned can be corrected over the coming years, if not sooner.
Yeah, but, as a customer I care about the product I am buying, not the one reviewers got months ago (for better or worse). Of course that should teach manufacturers a lesson not to release unfinished products, but still. If they have fixed it by the time I buy the product, great. All the issues there were and that may have lowered the price are gone.
@@WHALEx3you know that the software version he tested was given to actual customers right? There was not pre-production software it was just not their latest update. Which was perfectly valid for him to test so don't make excuses for them. I hate to say it, but in this day and age if you can't get the software right on a car, you have no business making the car.
The low frame rate on the camera does 2 things, it's clearer in dark environments because of low frame rate, the sensor has more time to gather light, and the biggest one is it discourages you from relying on it to drive. A backup camera is an aid to help keep you from bumping stuff, you're not supposed to stare at it while backing up, you're supposed to use your mirrors like "back in the day"
The widget customization and HUD is actually a nice touch, plus the heated and cooled front and rear seats. Tesla should take notes for sure with those options.
Our neighbor has one but I have yet to ride in one. Seems like a polished car from the outside, panel gap and finishing wise. Also, it’s nice to get EV options from other regions such as Asia (Vinfast is a Vietnamese automaker) because what we truly need in the US are the Chinese EV options to ramp up competition.
It’s so unfortunate for the States where Chinese EV could not be sold there, and every other country can enjoy these high-quality and low-cost Chinese EV. I have an atto 3 in Europe. It’s really an amazing product. It‘s so pleasant to drive.
I think creep mode is there to mimic diesel vehicles since their torque is high enough to keep the vehicle moving forward without pressing on acceleration. But not enough to keep ypu from rolling backwards on a hill.
IMO, this looks like a very nice grocery-getter. Not everyone buying an EV is a twenty-something looking for driving excitement. As an old guy who drives OLD cars, my 36 y.o. BMW (200,000+ miles) with Vinyl/Pleather/Vegan Leather has a virtually new looking interior. My 22 y.o. BMW Sportwagon (156,000 miles) with its upgraded German Leather interior has seen better days. Leather seat surfaces are cracking and the stitching on the driver's seat is pulling out. That Vinfast interior looks like a simple, well thought out, and fairly well executed design. Marques pointed out many interior pluses. IMO, it looks much better than anything Tesla. The fact that you have to touch a button to open the doors should only bother someone who is unable to use their hands. We haven't really become that lazy, right? And that "old Kindle" screen is much less distracting than the screen in the Tesla "truck"🤣 you just reviewed. The seatbelt interlock is also a great idea. In 2024, you have to be an idiot to get into a vehicle without fastening the seatbelt. Airbags are painful enough with a seatbelt attached. You shouldn't want to experience an airbag as you fly unrestrained into it. As for the ride and the acceleration, aren't those things that can be fixed with a software upgrade? Just so we're clear, I like the video and the on screen presence of Marques. Real talent there. I just think THIS review was a little harsh (passive-aggressive) on this vehicle and its manufacturer. THANK YOU for this video and a chance to voice my opinions.
i don't understand why people like the reacting when you approach feature. Presenting door handles, etc. Admittedly I've never had a car, so cannot attest to any experience with it other then scoffing at my buddies Rivian when we were chatting after an event near the car and it kept "chirping" and cycling the locks as he would trip the proximity threshold while chatting. Seemed quite silly under those circumstances.
The acceleration delay on some cars with bigger engines are a feature rather than an issue. If the selected drive mode is the "normal" one, the delay is introduced to avoid a crash on heavy traffic, when moving at very low speed.
The delay in torque. Marques, its prob to favor the chaotic traffic we have here in VN. Crossing bikes left right center up down. So that instant torque can slamm someone real hard if it is accidentally activated.
Currently waiting for my VF8 Eco on order, test drove one and will say the software can get buggy, but every issue is always fixed QUICKLY. As a viet I'm proud of where VinFast is at right now.
I don't think so, all Vingroup products have problems and the most important thing, all of those products are not cheap, even though they are made in Vietnam.
It can be confusing for those who have never driven any EV before. In fact driving a VF8 is quite simple. After hitting the unlock button on the keyfob, you open the door, sit down and close the car door; the driving seat, both right and left mirrors, and steering wheel automatically adjusts themselves to the exact position you have set up; just step on the break as the infotainment screen tells you, and don't forget to press the little white button to your right, underneath the steering wheel to un-park the EV (the red word PARK on the screen will go away). That's it. Now you just hit the button R (reverse) or D (drive) and go. Vinfast ADAS is the feature I love most. When on freeway if you want to use Vinfast ADAS, just hit the little ADAS button to your right, on the steering wheel once the VF8 reaches the speed you want, for example 65 miles/hour, and the ADAS sign in green and blue color with the desired speed will show up on HUD (Head-Up Display), and the EV will take over the drive. All you do now is just sit relax enjoy behind the steering wheel and touch the wheel when asked. If you want to adjust the ADAS speed, just hit the up (+) or down (-) button right above and below the ADAS button. The EV will automatically follow the same speed or stop as the car in front of you, does. If there's no car in front of you, the EV will speed up by itself to reach the speed you have set, while keeping the EV between the lanes. Remember whenever you step on the brake, ADAS will no longer work, and notice that the ADAS sign on HUD will become gray. Just hit the RES (Resume) button on the steering wheel to resume ADAS, and the ADAS sign on HUD will be again in green and blue color. Have fun and be safe.
So fun fact. I was in Vietnam at the start of the year, and a new ride hailing app is Xanh SM, owned by Vinfast. Every car that picks you up is a Vinfast EV. Man it was so far ahead of all the crappy toyota priuses or corollas that we have for uber here in the UK. I really enjoyed the all the Vinfasts I was driven in, personally it felt nicer and more premium than my friend's 2023 model 3 🤷♀️
Sedan and SUV two different types of auto transportation. I doubt the materials and build quality of Vinfast 8 are superior to Tesla 3 or its real competitor the Y.
Starts at $34500 in Vietnam - much more competitive than imported to USA. I think it is a good option there. Software could be updated in post to a degree. In USA Ioniq seems like a better option.
It has a ln outstanding waranty policy 10 years bumper to bumper, 125,000 miles, unlimited miles for battery. How about Tesla or Huyndai, just 4 or 5 years. This brand appears will change the game on the car market. Believe me, it is not just a normal start-up ev company like Fisker or Lucid. It has e-bus, scooter, bike, line of sizes SUV, mini, pick-up. And it is trying spread over the world. Now with the lowest stock price, it is still the third EV maker by market cap after Tesla and Xpeng. Future will be more fun to see 😮
The car is so dogshit that's why they have to have something sound good to back it up as you said warranty. If it sounds so fucking good, then why don't people in Vietnam buy it? And why are the majority of them used as taxis? The stock price is a clear example of a rug pull, with VinFast pulling the rug on their investors, dropping from 68 to 5. It's literally a crypto rug pull. Unfortunately, attempting to expand globally doesn't guarantee acceptance, my friend. It's still a shit car.
Yeah, I think it's about value. If it were like this but undercut all the other EVs in price it would be an awesome product. It's just that the price doesn't match what it is. They are made in Vietnam so I'm surprised that it couldn't be cheaper. I'm still waiting for cheap Chinese EVs.
@@Mixima101It sucks that in the states, we are getting lackluster EVs from the likes of VinFast and Honda. Definitely looking forward to cars from Chinese brands to enter the market. I think Zeekr will be the first to enter, since they’re a sister company of Volvo and have been to the US to show their cars several times, most recently at CES this year. I’d by a Zeekr 001 or 007 so quick!
The lease deal was $250/mo $0 down for the eco trim, 2023 version. Current price displays on their website is $400ish for the 2024 version, still $0 down I think.
“It’s not Tesla so it must be bad” attitude is disingenuous. These are start up companies entering the ev market, and frankly with a ton of unique designs features and most of all a clean fit and finish unlike *cough* teslas 🙄
the buckle up with parking brake is actually nice, some people dont buckle up so I guess its a way to make people do it. Might be annoying but only if you do not practice safe driving which includes buckle up each time.
“Shocking similarities with the Fisker”, the problem with that statement is that the VinFast doesn’t have any solar roof panel, the size is similar however it’s very subjective. The whole idea of “depreciative flagship” just because of the apps and the UI, again very subjective, guess what MKBHD it’s not a Tesla, other Automotive OEMS are going to have its own UI and icons are different. Maybe you should contact the VinFast CEO and have an interview with her and tell her your concerns on how the UI and icons can be updated instead of a four year old Android tablet and overall brand can be better instead of just bashing the brand. I do agree that the camera frame rate is not great but compared to the Mustang Mach E, Vinfast is better. I think that also you mentioned the different Drive Modes and how the vehicle can’t build up instantaneous torque it’s because the EV weighs 5600 lbs and the composite of steel and aluminum so it would seem it’s very top heavy and as a result takes sacrifice on performance but makes up in safety, some people would be ok with that. I think the Vegan Leather looks good, maybe the placement of the leather in front of the steering wheel seems odd but at least it’s not like a cookie cutter sterile Tesla interior and has a little character. Also at 13:31 you mentioned you would take the VinFast VF8, compared to what??
If they would put blinkers in there I would agree with you. But the blinkers are very unreliable, and you need to check the center screen to double-check if they're on. When you're checking your blind spot, mirror, in front of you, and behind you, to do a lane change, the last thing you want to do is look at your middle screen as well to make sure your blinker is on.
this break/seatbelt thing I got since ~2015 in my cars here in germany (VW Passat B8 - 2015, BMW G31 - 2018 & 2020 and Volvo XC60 T6 - 2023). The brake will also not release if you try to drive off with the door not fully closed.
I had never known Vinfast until I watched Sandy Munro's VF8 videos. He actually opened my mind, having said that Tesla is a performance/sport car, while Vinfast VF8 is a family car. That alone sets them apart. As a result, saying Tesla is more fun to drive than Vinfast VF8, doesn't sound right. Sandy Munro made it clear that "VF8 was not a speed demon car like Tesla, but at the end of the day people would be happy with what VF8 offered." In my opinion, I wouldn't take $50K to buy a 4-year old Tesla Model Y. Why? It's because all Tesla models including Model Y come with a new limited warranty that includes 4 year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper coverage, while all Vinfast models come with a warranty including 10 year/120,000 mile bumper-to-bumper coverage. We all knew how much it would cost to fix a 4-year old Tesla Model Y with uncertainty of the battery life. Obviously, the battery replacement bill of a Tesla Model Y is not cheap! In fact, I got my VF8 Plus about 3 weeks ago. My VF8 Plus 2023 has been great so far after almost 500 miles. With a 65% battery (from 80% down to 15%) on a single charge, my Vinfast VF8 Plus 2023 in the normal mode, at the speed of 70 miles/hour carrying one adult, can go roughly 175 miles during the normal weather temperature, with about 20 miles uphill and downhill. The best thing is that after my old car trade in and a $200 deposit, I pay roughly 9 bucks/day to lease the EV with a 3 year lease to own term. You cannot beat that 😁
I honestly didn't see anything that would put me off the VF8. Driving dynamics are another matter though and we all have our own personal preference there.
@@NKLGaming01 Driving EVs is to help reduce (not to completely stop) our dependence on fossil fuels and protect our environment. We all know that most of the fossil fuels we are using today, take roughly 150 million years to form, and all the natural resources won't last forever. Ten years ago, EVs like Tesla were only for those who were wealthy or had much higher incomes. However, EVs are now more affordable helping us achieve our goals of reducing fossil fuel use and protecting the environment, not to mention their high tech features providing additional safety and protection for consumers; and more EV startups offer quality EVs at affordable prices. VinFast is one of them. There's nothing wrong with supporting Vinfast.
I'm sorry but the fob NOT having proximity unlock is a feature for me... Not a bug. I'm not out here trying to get my car stolen through the simplest signal repeater attack. Pressing a single button isn't a significant barrier
Opening the door and starting the car are two wildly different things. A signal repeater isn’t going to be able to simulate the fob being inside the car consistently for them to start it and drive off. 🤦 some people don’t think
@@pablojams5152 so in theory you're correct. But effectively the car only checks if it thinks the key is in the car for both those actions at the moment you press the button. And also there are loads of entry points to plug something in once you're inside the car. So in the real world you're very wrong. They drive off with your car with just a dumb signal repeater 15s in your driveway...
@@pablojams5152 yeah it depends on the car but mostly it depends on it's age. very very recent cars have much more realistic security than even slightly older ones. there's no specific regulation for this and the companies basically assumed security by ignorance would work every time a new feature is introduced. like first generation of press button on your fob to unlock had a simple non encrypted key that it sent identically every time. now it's all rolling single use encrypted key. proximity based fobs are generally caught up for a brand new car. but I don't see it as a benefit so I would rather not have this additional hackable entry point on my car. every form of security grows obsolete...
That called monopolized the market which is illegal and unethical in any developed country. Leaving people no other choices to pick instead of cram something down their throat no matter how good the quality with ‘environment’ propaganda is not a healthy free market. Just saying.
@@Jaytran03 Not exactly, the major problem for new EV companies before stepping VN market is density of charging stations. VF spent millions of dollars in developing and building charging stations which gives them the massive advantage, and it is reasonable for them to not share it in the 1st 10 yrs as their policies. And for some reason, charging station is one of top concerns of EV's consumer in VN. If other EV companies want to compete, just spend an equivalent amount of budget to develop charging stations just like VF

That is because the compare is to similar car from the same time and type. If you would choose to buy a new EV around 40K-50K this actually matters.
If you do decide to purchase this vehicle, Best of luck!
You had me in the first half ngl

That is what it is for.

AFAIK, creep mode is supposed to control whether or not the car creeps forward, not prevent you from rolling backward. Not that it's not something that shouldn't even happen in the first place in an EV.
Correct, it has nothing to do with rolling backwards on a hill. Just if it will slowly roll forward with the foot off the brake, like a gas car will.
Affirmatory. My Renault Zoe has creep built in but it also autoholds uphill.
I guess the hypothetical link is that rolling back on hills is an expected behaviour in some ICE vehicles but completely unexpected on all EVs
Agreed. Auto Hill Hold should be mandatory on all vehicles, imo
Yup, hill assist/hold is for rolling backwards.

Vinfast is a site I go to decode my car's VIN. I can't get over the name.
In the future, after Vinfast fails in the North American market, i think this will be a common mention when analyzing their failure.
To me it sounds more like one of those "speed up your computer" sort of software, where you pay $80 just to have the temp files deleted from the PC.

Marques, what you just complained about was a lack of "Hill Assist", not bad "Creep Mode"
All creep mode means is the car moves slowly without you needing to press the gas pedal, not that it will stop your car from free-rolling on hills.
The problem is, there's a delay in creep mode. when you let go of the brake pedal it takes a second for the creep to kick in, while you are rolling down a hill.
Where this is most annoying is parallel parking on a hill. (In other cars you can hit the accelerator and break at the same time, but when the brake pedal is pushed the accelerator is canceled out.)
This can get very annoying.

I had a Gogoro VF5 in November and have to say I was quite impressed as a passenger, especially considering it costs "just" 20k€.
TBH... if the software is "bad" because you don't like the graphics then LOL. At least there are after market solutions.
you said it very correctly, love you from VN.
Remember in the 70s people used to laugh at japanese cars. Then in the 80s, people laughed at Hyundai. Now 2024, people laugh at Vinfast.
This is the best comment I have read among all the comments here, I am Vietnamese, I feel proud when my country's first product is discussed by international friends like this , of course there are even mixed opinions.
This comment is very often seen in VF8 related videos. Anyway, you mean we can laugh at Vinfast now, right?
Sure, but can they at least pick a name that doesn't sound like an Amazon knock-off special?
I think this comment is more suitable for Chinese cars than vinfast

As an EV owner, as fun as the instant torque is, I've learned that it isn't a feeling everyone enjoys. Especially people who don't regularly drive EVs. I can see why a new company would want to garner more new customers by making the car feel more familiar.
Just put it in normal mode simple
That makes no sense in sport mode, though. It should be an option, because instant torque can literally save your life. For example, you're in an intersection and you see a car who ran a red light barreling toward you. With instant torque, you escape unscathed. With delay, you get T-boned at 55 mph, roll over, and either get seriously injured or maybe even die.

I've hated the trend in UI (particularly championed by Tesla) to make EVERYTHING different shades of gray. It is incredibly un-intuitive especially when driving. Colours may look "clownish", but they let you determine what you're looking at quickly without the need to focus on it. Some egregious examples in our Tesla:
Is Bluetooth connected? Light gray for 'on', Very light gray for 'off'. (could easily put a blue oval behind the icon for 'on')
Is a button toggled on, off or is it disabled? All 3 button states are just different shades of gray.
On the map, water is gray, land is light gray, buildings are very light gray.
The screen can display millions of colours, but the only colour being used is gray. I'll take the clown show any day.
Your comment is rambling and makes little sense.

@@markthomas6794 as someone who has rode in this car before, it is not a competitor. it is nauseating riding in this, especially long distances
The auto focus licence plate cover is a spectacular touch. Nice work
Unpopular opinion - this car is what you'd get if Toyota or Honda made an EV version of the Rav4 or CRV.
Don't compare Vinfast to Toyota or Honda.🤨
I live in NC near where the factory is. Really want them to succeed to help the local area but sounds like the writing is on the wall for their long term success
Me too and I really want them to succeed
Rooms if improvement are not a sentence to death however trying to ignore them is. I just hope Vinfast is young enough to respond the feedbacks to stay on the game.
His review of this and the Fisker aren't as bad as he initially made them sound. Plenty of flaws and reasons to go with the competition, which is a big deal and might be enough for them to fail, but it's not like they are terrible cars. The flaws mentioned can be corrected over the coming years, if not sooner.
If by chance you pass by where they are building the factory can you grab some pictures. Wondering where are they in the process
You got this after the updates. If you got it when it first came out… can’t imagine they’d be happy after.

A backup camera is an aid to help keep you from bumping stuff, you're not supposed to stare at it while backing up, you're supposed to use your mirrors like "back in the day"
He started as a phone reviewer, ofcourse he compare everything smart phone camera.

The widget customization and HUD is actually a nice touch, plus the heated and cooled front and rear seats. Tesla should take notes for sure with those options.
For sure Tesla will, then pull an Apple and say they were the first.... lol
But not enough to keep ypu from rolling backwards on a hill.
i like this design
Good point. I'd hate to be at a red light in front of a HCMC Grab driver in a Tesla.
Well but they selling it in US so they should do something about it for the market ?
Currently waiting for my VF8 Eco on order, test drove one and will say the software can get buggy, but every issue is always fixed QUICKLY. As a viet I'm proud of where VinFast is at right now.
Yeah, it's proud to see a Vietnamese brand go over the world, certainly not perfect now, but I believe it will get better.
Have fun and be safe.

the buckle up with parking brake is actually nice, some people dont buckle up so I guess its a way to make people do it.
HUD instead of driver centric gauge cluster is an awesome idea
If they would put blinkers in there I would agree with you. But the blinkers are very unreliable, and you need to check the center screen to double-check if they're on.
When you're checking your blind spot, mirror, in front of you, and behind you, to do a lane change, the last thing you want to do is look at your middle screen as well to make sure your blinker is on.
That's probably the first car review I've ever watched without actually driving.

No matter who is telling what about VF
this break/seatbelt thing I got since ~2015 in my cars here in germany (VW Passat B8 - 2015, BMW G31 - 2018 & 2020 and Volvo XC60 T6 - 2023).
You cannot beat that 😁
Its that good
I honestly didn't see anything that would put me off the VF8. Driving dynamics are another matter though and we all have our own personal preference there.
Its that good
How many Vinfast units have been sold? Dont talk please?
I am rooting for the VF7 review when it comes out ❤❤ that one is designed to be electric from scratch. Thank you Marques for this review
I like the door handel , some good old stuf that not gonna malfuction
@@SquintyGears it might depend heavily on the car because many cars will refuse to remain on if the fob leaves the car, as it’s actively checking
Side profile reminds me of the modern Ford Puma 2019.
It also looks like an Audi Q3-5.
Renault Megane back
I vouch for their effort!
THERE IS A BUTTON ON THE DOOR HANDLE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK IT ON THE OUTSIDE SO YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE THE KEY
Living in Vietnam, Vinfast is the only, and top choice in EV, and we think it's a pretty good product. In the future they should improve the car a lot
@@Jaytran03 i mean there literally noone here selling EVs except VF
@@StormyxD3110 nope, there are some EV brands here like mercedes, audi but they are super luxury so almost all vietnamese people can not afford them, we also have the ioniq5 from huyndai but if you compare it with the Vf8 in VN, i thinks vf8 is better because vf8 has more charging station, more power, more range at a cheaper price
@@StormyxD3110 yeah, do you know why that happening? Because of ridiculous extremely high imported tax, without that, you think vinfast can compete with other brand’s price and quality?
