That all window open feature is great. And the Fisker is one of the very few besides Porsche that retains a sunroof that actually still open. Great job.
Hopefully the ocean will be more than one year in production compared to Fisker Karma. At least they cannot put the exhaust at the front of the car this time around.
From an owner since December I can say the Ocean Extreme is a lovely family car with some good oomph to it. Yes there are a few software glitches, but nothing they can't fix with OTA updates.
The problem isn't only the software issues, it's also that they're selling a car that's not even finished yet. No adaptive cruise control because that'll be available later on. Really? It started with gaming companies selling unfinished games that would be fixed with software updates and now we are on to cars. I would never buy a car that hasn't even got all it's features when it leaves the factory.
That makes absolutely no sense.. this guy reviewing this car should be homeless and without a job! He is a complete idiot and is clueless on how this car even works! He’s pathetic!
I don't mind setting the steering wheel via the screen, as long as it has memory for profiles you set your position once then never really move it again. Wing mirrors on the other hand can be a bit annoying via the screen.
Unnecessary gimmicks, prone to fail. My car has one mechanical lever on to adjust the steering wheel up and down and in/out. Takes 5s to get it done. Are people so decrepit today, that everything has to be done electronically and supported by nannies?
@@heiner71 Stop and think for a moment. When the process is motorized it can automatically adjust to different driver profiles. If the car has only one driver ever this is a non-issue, but it's an incredibly nice feature for a lot of people. When the seat, wheel, and mirrors are motorized swapping drivers is seamless.
Nice to see a reviewer actually commenting on the under sprung and under dampened ride. All the owners raved "oh its so planted and comfortable", but when I test drove the Ocean I felt exactly how Mat is describing it + excessive pitching and rolling. Not at all the "drives more like a sports car than an SUV" feel that Henrik Fisker claimed. It drives like a mid price, mid size SUV that is far too heavy for anything remotely sporty driving.
Well, I am then one of few who drive it. And I must say, I liked. They did not get a sale simply because we just bought Tesla S two weeks before test drive (that was reserved months before). Design is great, you can see someone who knows it did it. Now my annoying things: - Breaks felt so different than what I am used too (too light then, can't feel how much you need to press) - Constant warnings. Now seller excuse was that their software is not yet finished (I tested in in October last year) - A bit slow navigation. After checking about it a bit, I found it was made for Fisker by TomTom, and usually as many OEMs, they go with as cheap hardware as possible. - Acceleration limited (I tested only once as I passed that "Oh wow, looks how fast this EV is" - It does feel like version V1 or maybe even v0.8. But, it does have a great price, made in factory that actually has experience building cards (your Mercedes G wagon comes from there too, BMW X3 used to come from there too, made in Austria). Feels OK when driving if you are not hooligan like Matt is :-) Very comfortable ride. Design is great, I wish them to solve all small issues. Once they do, this could be a car to buy.
3:40 Coming straight from the MKBHD's review of this car, where there was no information for the solar panels in the infotaintment system. But glad that they included in here, assuming it got a software update.
@@evanscott976 No. He reviewed the car as it was sold to a customer and existed in the wild. It is 100% on Fisker. This was a production customer car! The delusion of the bag holders is thick.
16:41 and 16:46 I do really like those teal wall tires! They would look really cool on this type of car. Also the paint would serve its purpose protecting those wheels against blazing California sun
I'd love to see them release the car in a finished state. He tested it as it and if thats something that needs updates to be fixed it should have been done before release. If not it is what it is and anything after the fact may well improve it but doesn't change the current experience.
@@siraff4461 I'm not excusing it, but if they waited for software 4.0 on the roadmap, they'd be dead before they released the thing. They needed the revenue to start, it's a new product by a startup, early buyers are unfortunately beta testers.
@@tipoomaster Which is fair enough so long as they are happy to take the poor reviews which go along with that. They could easily have released it with less features, a smaller battery or whatever to cut costs but they chose to screw the early buyers instead which will reflect on them. Lets be honest Fisker hasn't got the greatest record at being able to run a company in the first place so releasing something half baked really isn't going to help that look. Its also a lot less hassle to sort out a bit of code than to pass all the safety tests so its a bit of a thin excuse. Plenty of other stuff is half baked too. For instance suspension set up is a well known art these days but they seem to not have bothered asking anyone about it. Plenty of things on this just scream built as quickly and cheaply as possible and considering their track record its someone more brave than me who's going to throw their money at it. Speaking of which even the price rings alarm bells. Thats the kind of price a big maker using lots of common parts with another vehicle could possibly do. When its a new company and a ground up car thats just not enough to cover proper development. I wish them all the best - I really liked the Karma and almost got one until I saw one in person and thought it had been in a large accident then not repaired properly. Apparently fit and finish weren't part of the deal so I left it. A shame because I still think it would have been quite cool.
It's not bad ! and has an onboard 230v supply rated at 3000 watts which is pretty handy, also very handy is it is spacious, looks cool and you can put all the rear seats down should you buy a fridge or washing machine and want to get it home ASAP !... It does seem a bit dark and gloomy inside, so a lighter colour interior would be more cheerful... I do like the long range on the top model along with a 4.1 second 0-60mph time !.... if only there was a mute button to stop all that annoying beeping, I would love to buy this car !... the rear end does look like it was inspired by the Alfa Romeo Cloverleaf of the 1990's/2000's... I like this car.
3:58 Had a solar roof on my jeep for 3 years now with 335w and I'm lucky to see much power at all when the clouds are out like they are in this video. Quite understandable for that feature to be a bit useless in certain places and times of year but I've had days where I can easily make 18-25 miles of range for a typical electrical car when the sun is cranking.
Within a month, Fisker will have eliminated the 500 boosts limit, I am sure. I think they will replace it with a total boost counter, and a recommendation.
Fantastic idea, they should absolutely make this change, the 500 boost limit is perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever seen on a car (and I've owned a S55 AMG Mercedes)
Yeah, it’ll be short lived (again) going on the current state of their finances and how little cars they’re selling. Henrik Fisker should stick to design, not trying to run an entire business.
....this car would be perfect on the Costa brava. What worries me about the car is its reliance on the computer. While you're driving if altering anything, means you're eyes aren't on the road!!.......great review as always😎🍻
Ok so this was fair and the criticism was on point, although you can turn off the warning chimes and they will remain off (mine do). The warnings will calm down once the radars are finally activated. People want to equate that to the car being buggy. The car is acting as intended, and is a bit oversensitive, but its supposed to be working with those radars turned on.
I simply don't understand the resistance to Tesla's swipe to go feature. I use the auto select feature and love it. Rarely do I need to select manually. When I do it's no different then finding a shift lever. I get it, everyone wants a stick shift, so they can be a big bad racer. LoL!
Fisker designed the Tesla Model S. Fisker designed and sold the Fisker Karma. Sold to a Chinese company, it became the Karma Revero. From Fisker Automotive to Fisker Inc., not a new company at all.
Nice video Matt, you are pointing to the issues and bugs but in a more humourous way. You are absolutely right with the annoying things, i have a FOO and it is very annoying, hopefully the new software update will fix some of them. You are also right car looks awesome and it drives really good, way better ride than my Model 3. Good review
@@windowman9665The new Kona Electric is a bargain for the amount of kit you get, especially after incentives. I think it’ll be the budget EV to beat for 2024
Correction: The first X5 was not designed by Fisker but by Frank Stephenson - who has a very nice RUclips channel on his own, explaining a lot of things he did in the past and what cars he designed.
Thats a selling point for some of us. As a techy person, Its one of the things I want in an EV. A large, functional infotainment display with essential apps.
Come on Mat, you should know by now that EVERY car will go on default safety settings nowadays. That has been since 2021 when a NEW (so not a facelift) car is introduced. Just EU (NCAP points) regulations, nothing to do with a brand.
Yep stuff like Lane assists is on by default by regulation now. In my kia though you can press an hold a button on the wheel to turn it off. Don't have to dig in a menu then. It's a perfectly fine system on a main road. It's down right lethal on a back road or country lane in the UK. They definitely did not think about it.
@@0tispunkm3y3rIt can only be lethal because it's not properly calibrated. That's the carmaker's job - some do it better, some worse. Kia is one of the latter
Nobody is buying this loaded Ocean over a Model Y Performance. What I am much more interested about is the 37k version of this Fisker! That one should be the more interesting one!!
If you compare the built and the interior on both cars you will change your mind. Also you cannot compare performance as they are in a different category
@@iliascharitonidis6950 Exterior and interior are the BEST part of the Fisker. Personally I love the design of the Ocean. Sadly, it's worst part is the tech and how unreliable it is according to every single reviewer. Hence why most will end up going with a Tesla in the end, even if they picked the Ocean first.
I was about to say the solar panels would be great in Australia, but then I realised that this summer has been so wet it’s more like Scotland at the moment.😂
About 20 years ago, Mazda gave the 929 solar panels on the roof which kept the AC running while parked. Now THAT was genius. No more getting back into a boiling car.
@@chrisc475 Even Mazda didn't repeat it as far as I know. Car manufacturers will happily add any option that sells. If Joe Public is too stupid to buy it, then they'll have thought "F@!k-em then. Let em roast."
The 1 thing reviewers have to start doing is telling viewers what software version they are testing and I suspect the version he has is 1.00 as all the issues he shows us are fixed in 1.11 and version 2 is bringing a lot more fixes and there will be a new version each month .. and so on .. He should verify what version is available in the cars he is reviewing before reviewing them and 1.11 has been out for a month already!
This is nonsense and most likely competitors making complaints. I own the Ocean and it’s perfectly safe. Apparently four people made complaints now compare that to Tesla complaints
Tesla has recalled at least once all of vehicles they have already sold. Some of the reasons are below: steering problems, defective rearview cameras, mounting bracket manufacturing flaws, Autopilot malfunctions, failure of low brake fluid warning lights, weak third and second-row seats, steering wheels that fall off, faulty suspension parts, and doors that unlock during a crash.
That steering wheel is horrific and would literally be a deal breaker for me… I had a VW that had one shaped pretty much like that and, while it looks great in the laboratory, the shape means that when you relax your hand position on long drives, you tend to rest the pad of the base of your thumb on the oval “point” of the rim and it cuts off circulation after a while. It’s designed for the shape between your index and thumb but, apart from shop window dummies, nobody holds their hand like that.
I have a fisker drove it for 3600km now and it is really a great car!!! I tested VOLVO C40 Polestar 2, Tesla Y and I decided to choose Fisker and it was for sure the right decision
The area of a car roof wouldn't give you anywhere near an effective charge, even on a sunny day. To get a meaningful charge - while you parked for example - you would need a solar array the size of a tennis court.....
@@dabulls1g Well maybe not, but if some potential buyers felt the car would be charged up on a sunny day while they went shopping, or had a picnic, they'd end up disappointed. Sort of in the same way some early adopters of the Toyota Prius seemed to feel their cars would charge up while parked, because they'd been told they were "self charging"..........The concept of solar on a car roof is fine in itself, but just don't expect huge returns from it. I'd be surprised if you saw 1500 miles per year return....
It isn't something you need to worry about unduly. You probably won't see one of these on the used market for some time... Buyers will be wary of new unknown makes for a while yet....
Far too much stuff is being added to “the screen” in cars. It’s REALLY annoying! They’re all a pain to navigate, especially if you’re driving. You can’t feel what you’re pressing, so you HAVE to look away from the road. We had a Focus courtesy car with the climate control on the screen, it was really awkward to get the right temp. In our own focus the climate control is done with physical dials, I don’t need to look at them at all to know if I’m turning it up or down, I can just feel it. Then as soon as I’ve done that I can move the blowers, adjust my steering wheel, adjust the seat etc, all without having to navigate to different screens! Hate screens in cars!!
People forget tesla had all kinds of problems and bugs when they launched... people invested in fisker thinking it will be the next tesla immediately thats not how things work in reality... to put it in perspective tesla was founded in 2003 and only in 2020 they had their first profit year...fisker is a new company with vision be patient
Lane departure warnings seemed to be your biggest annoyance - could have just silence them or shut it off all together (fisker Ocean One owner with 6,000 miles here)
They're going bankrupt....... for a second time. Sad because the Karma was a really good looking car. Henrick Fisker is a brilliant designer. Just not a brilliant businessman.
Fisker is supposed to release the 2.0 version of the software for this car on a OTA update. Hopefully it improves a bunch of the faults which seem to be software related.
Doesn't have any unique technology, so they're selling them on price. Problem is, most analysts believe they are selling at a substantial loss. So they will probably go bust, leaving owners with a lemon. And the depreciation...

Fisker Ocean and Karma are equally underrated.

From an owner since December I can say the Ocean Extreme is a lovely family car with some good oomph to it. Yes there are a few software glitches, but nothing they can't fix with OTA updates.

@@josh3221ify half price in 1 year , like most EV s
Cannot comprehend why anyone would buy a new EV, when you can get it half the price or less in 2/3 years and 30k miles.

"The worst review I've ever watched" :p
Now my annoying things:
- Breaks felt so different than what I am used too (too light then, can't feel how much you need to press)
- Constant warnings. Now seller excuse was that their software is not yet finished (I tested in in October last year)
- A bit slow navigation. After checking about it a bit, I found it was made for Fisker by TomTom, and usually as many OEMs, they go with as cheap hardware as possible.
- Acceleration limited (I tested only once as I passed that "Oh wow, looks how fast this EV is"
- It does feel like version V1 or maybe even v0.8.

This will be a great success when the software catches up with the hardware. The vehicle-to-load options are awesome!

Gimmick.
Within a month, Fisker will have eliminated the 500 boosts limit, I am sure. I think they will replace it with a total boost counter, and a recommendation.

@@stephen25uk My Subaru doesn't, it just leaves an annoying yellow light on the dash.
Another thing is how easy it is to turn off. Some cars have a button on the steering wheel.
LoL!

No mention at all of the complete lack of a glovebox? Really, Matt, that deserves to be covered.

1500-2000 miles a year is not insignificant
@@dabulls1g Well maybe not, but if some potential buyers felt the car would be charged up on a sunny day while they went shopping, or had a picnic, they'd end up disappointed.
