David Moore No. It is safer to have physical buttons for secondary things like climate control and the sound system rather than having a touchscreen interface that you *have* to take your eyes off the road to be able to use, or using voice commands that are slow and prone to errors. Muscle memory is virtually autonomous from our conscious mind, so once the position, feel and functionality of the various switches and controls are learned, using them with your hand is by far the safest and most efficient method.

Test drove one yesterday. Superb in every way. Dual screen infotainment system is excellent. Screen behind steering wheel is very nicely designed and shows maps so driver can see where to go whilst passenger fiddles with the centre console screen. Ride is nice and so is the performance. Tempted although worried about the range.
In Switzerland Polestar 2 and Tesla model 3 Long Range, so both AWD are within of 400 bucks (once you put 19" wheels on Tesla to match Polestar's standard size). So count 57'500Fr. Range is similar (P2: 470km vs Tm3: 530km), with Tesla having small advantage, though, with 19" wheels, I think it loses a bit on its range. So we can say they are similar there too. Acceleration is almost the same. Seems Polestar 2 have a bit better real world acceleration. Design is subjective, but Polestar 2 wins for me, especially for the interior. No real dash is what puts off to buy Model 3. Now, something really important: Manufacturing quality - I think Polestar beats Tesla here. It is Volvo quality and I know it is good and refined craftsmanship. Tesla is still not there. It is just a reality. So, overall, I think, we are in the presence of the first, serious competition to Tesla that is actually better in many ways. Thumbs up to Polestar!
@paul sticks The only problem would be battery production, but that can be quite easily sort out if they merge with a battery production company. (Like tesla did with Panasonic) But look at the numbers, The Audi E-tron already sells more than the Tesla model X in Europe. and the Taycan is also outselling the model S in that continent (Which is quite impressive considering it is more expensive). Full self driving is not really a safe feature and it still got lots of work to do (yet the still charge you 8 grand for that), there's a lot of dashcam videos showing how it does really unsafe maneuvers, so its not a good enough feature to sell a car. (except if you are a sheep and watched some really bullshit video about someone sleeping with FSD on) And the Fart apps, Built-in arcade games and Netflix are also not a good selling point. Also, look at the Model Y its got tons of quality issues such as Cabin leaks, mismatched trim and panels, scratched painjob, rust underneath the car, Awful ride quality, etc. The only thing that think it is innovative about tesla it is its infotainment system, but only that, really. (yes, i was bored today so i had time to write this. lol)
@paul sticks butthurt Tesla fanboy spotted. In terms of ux Tesla's biggest advantage is the infrastructure. It was about time other manufacturers come up with a more well-rounded product.
@paul sticks Not sure this is the biggest argument. For many people (including me) the supercharger network is the thing. Honestly, I'm not ready to go EV, especially at this price point, without this solution. I really don't know for the rest (design, autonomy, perf, details quality and stuffs) but if Tesla is still this far ahead regarding the charging ease and journey planning when I'll have the financial ability to get one of those cars (probably around 2 years), I'll go for Tesla for sure. And I really don't see anyone near or far ....
I like the Polster 2 and the way it looks but, 50 miles between the two is a very big difference, and definitely not "similar" however the biggest advantage for tesla is the seamless charging network which makes it easier to live with. Not to mention technology wise tesla is way ahead. Probably the cosmetic fit and finish of the polestar will be better. But if I had to buy an EV I would get a tesla because, it offers more. more range, cheaper, solid seamless charging network and much better technology. Polestar is better than every other compable EV though besides Tesla
Challenges to being an early adopter! My Polestar 2 EV was in the Volvo/Polestar service dept for the 2nd time in its short lease life, this time for 26 days, to try to fix software and possibly hardware issues. With the help/intervention of Polestar corporate, the car was finally returned yesterday afternoon with 45% remaining so I plugged it in and I couldn't immediately charge it. Back to the service dept today; the brutal saga continues! According to IHS Markit, forecasted expected volume for 2021 is only about 250 vehicles/month. Polestar corporate, its PS2 vehicle, the customer service team, vehicle repair services, and parts inventory are clearly not ready for prime time in the US! It is not like you can go to another dealer or repair shop; your are stuck with the one service location and team. Lesson learned?

I drive a V90 and have been avoiding buying a Tesla or any electric car. I am now encouraged to buy an Electric car. Polestar is my first choice. 2 or 3, I am waiting to be pursuaded.
The Infotainment system is still designed by Volvo/Geely Matt! The Hardware runs the Android OS , so it is a partnership. The manufacturer still gets the credit for the look/feel/design!
I think it looks great! Nice and different to the look of Tesla or the suv styles. Love the seatbelts, don’t like no apple car play, love the interior, don’t like stickers, love the screens, don’t like the rear windows. This would be a really good competitor to the model 3, but its price is what will make it compete more for the Y, which then it might have trouble with.
@Col Eve You should try it...the two things aren't comparable even though you might expect them to be. It's partly cause you can pretty much see out the windshield (with your peripheral vision) while looking at the iPad and too, it only takes a swipe or a finger click to get most things done (and it's always the same functions, so they get really thoughtless and automatic quickly).
In UK law you aren't allowed to use a mobile for communication functions. Technically if you can prove that you weren't texting or taking a call then you're not in the wrong (although those are hard to prove, perhaps your phone's call log?).

4.16 to 60 puts me solidly in the polestar 2 camp over a long range model 3/y. Yes - the price is higher but justified given the higher quality interior materials and finishes, (subjectively) more attractive exterior design, and better fit and finish. If only polestar could give me details on how and where service would occur when needed in Michigan....
We hired a Polestar 2 for our 2 week holiday in New Zealand. Electric cars have a huge advantage when it comes to mountain driving, one pedal control and lack of engine noise make for such a relaxing drive. The Polestar is a nicely finished car and looks great inside and out but is not as good a car as a Tesla model 3. Our biggest disappointment with the Polestar was lack of space, we are a small (in stature) family and the Polestar is cramped and has poor visibility in the front and the back (our daily, a 2016 Golf R feels much roomier). Other areas where the Polestar fails in comparison to the Tesla and in general include: - User interface, the Polestar Android implementation makes Android look bad and does not make up for the conventional driver controls and dashboard. - Performance, the Polestar we had was a 2WD and felt a little slow particularly when over taking. - Price, in Australia the Polestar is about $10k more expensive for a similarly specified (SR+) Model 3. - Driver assist, not sure if was just the car we had or NZ roads but lane assist was frightening and just did not work. - Very little interior storage, not much space to put things. Based on our recent experience with the Polestar 2 and a previous experience with a Model 3 we are convinced that an EV would be the right choice for us (if we had the funds to purchase one).
Your family must be short and , erm, 'stout' then as I am a mum with two six feet tall teenage boys and they sit in it no problem. Also, you need the performance pack if you want a better overtake. I have also owned Golf R and you are having a laugh saying that has more room. I don't think you actually drove the Polestar 2 lol.
@@susand9296 You must be a bit erm 'simple' or at least prone to making stupid assumptions. I'm not comparing the Polestar with an F-truck, just a Golf (or a Model 3), which we all fit in fine. Performance pack wouldn't change many of the concerns we had with the car especially the cost versus an equivalent Tesla.
@@nielsie86 That depends on how the layout are and how the screen are used. Like in Tesla, where you can watch a video at the same time as you are driving!!?! Nuts! I promise you that they have a lot of thoughts going on here as to what is distracting and not.
They don't want to as far as I remember because the manufacturers would have to share every little information about the diver and the car with Google. This information is quite important to create new products or services.
I took this for a test drive today. Didn't have the performance package though. It felt good for handling, fairly sharp and agile by my limited car experience. It was my first time driving an ev, and I found it somewhat tranquil, with low noise, and no engine vibration or acceleration sounds hardly. It's a good looking sedan, and seemed like good room in the back for a car this size, but the front was a bit snug/cozy. The center console didn't have good storage either, and what storage is there is robbed by a cup holder, though it may be removable. Nice interior design, but all the matte finishes and textiles are not my thing, though my test version had optional perforated heated/cooled leather seats in a beige colour, which felt nice to the touch and pretty comfy. The center screen seemed really intuitive and easy to use and learn. The voice commands will mostly be used once you're used to it I reckon, if that pleases you. Center cluster screen looked nice but I found it odd without having traditional round gauges. Something to get used to. I liked the polestar logo light on the roof, a nice touch, and the panoramic sunroof is spacious and adds lots of natural light. Accel pedal was very easy to modulate, and is incredibly useable at low to midrange speeds. Didn't get to take it to higher speeds above 125km/h. Ability to punch and maneuver this in traffic is excellent! Felt really good. Overall a nice car, should be an exceptional city car, and nice to have something different. I think I would get it without the performance package, but with the leather seats. It handled quite well without the performance ohlins and brembo brakes. I did find the exterior paint options lackluster, and I would get the standard wheels, as they all look good, but I find such large wheels are oversized on cars these days, and are a good place to save money, while actually lightly increasing performance and comfort. So, do I think this car is worth buying? Personally I feel it is not worth the price, but if you are going to buy a new ev in this price range, I would certainly consider this car, yet I can't fully judge it without having tested it's rivals. Evs are compelling to me though in any case, saving those gasoline costs, and trips, oil changes, and less maintenance in general. If this was a lower price it and it's competition would be no brainers for most in the cities. Addendum: Can't say I loved the steering wheel feel either, not enough texture.

Yeah no let’s be realistic here with the price… compare this polestar which is basically a volvo, volvos r quite expensive right, think abt how expensive other electric cars are would you really rather spend 55k on a Nissan Leaf or 64 on a polestar? of course not everyone can afford a 64k car but in terms of quality and the fact it’s an ev the price is reasonable
@@sienna1292I came to the same conclusion. I was in the market for a new EV with some range and came across the Polestar 2 first, because I really really didn't want a Tesla. It seemed expensive until I started comparing, at other brands I would have gotten way less, for a pretty similar price. Hell, some cars like VW or Skoda EVs would have cost more and had less in terms of power, range and interior. In the end, I got the Polestar. Mow Blow : That’s for sure, to many better things are for the tesla. A car is more than just a design. Its the whole package that makes Tesla the better choice: Own fastcharge netwerk, better autopilot/FSD, more bootspace, more efficient, lighter, better handling and still more comfortable, over air updates. The list goes on. And than considering that this is the top-spec sport version, he compares with the ‘standard” longrange Tesla. They still have much to do at Polestar.
@@martinhoogenraad4527 uggghh honestly we get u love tesla cars. But the polestar looks so much better, is probably more comfortable, far better build quality and its heavier because its much much safer
Yeah, but I prefer the Polestar. The Tesla was somewhat revolutionary at it's time, since it really polarized and geatly popularized the electric car industry (although they weren't nearly the first, as some people seem to think), it showed that the electeic car is just as good, or better, than the internal combustion ones, and took the electric car out of a certain "novelty" it had. But now there are so many better options, and even though it's still one of the fastest, it even apears to be starting to lag behing...

Other than that, really enjoy the content!
My personal priority views on the Polestar 2 vs Tesla 3 is: * Nulled: The range - because of the minor difference in range - I will stop and charge before getting close to the difference in range anyway. * Nulled: The acceleration - because I will not need or use that anyway - or notice the difference. * Nulled: The top speed - because I would not top any of those speeds. * Nulled: Automatic driver - because it is not legal to use in my country in Europe (yet) * Super advantage Tesla: Their charger network! Not only being most widespread and (most often) working - but price-wise also much better in the area I live (in Europe) * Personal advantage Tesla (model 3 and Y): Love that you can extract what the cameras have recorded with the push of a button or after an accident (read: great in proving your innocence). * Advantage Tesla: Larger frunk! * Advantage Tesla: "Larger" windscreen/thinner * Super (personal) advantage Polestar: The user interface - not only driven by the Android community - but must have had some serious UX-experts @Polestar * Super (personal) advantage Polestar: I truly prefer the more classic driver cockpit with a screen above the steering-wheel and extras on the middle. * Personal advantage Polestar: Soo much better looking! * Advantage Polestar: More SUV-feeling and... does it have higher ground clearance? Me? I would buy the Polestar 2... Berlin edition... with tow-package.
I used to work for Tesla and I completely agree with you, especially about the cockpit. After months of driving the model 3 I still hated not having a screen in front of me. Tesla should have an option of a heads-up display in my opinion.

Were you thinking of him playing jessica by allman brothers band?
(Like tesla did with Panasonic)
But look at the numbers, The Audi E-tron already sells more than the Tesla model X in Europe. and the Taycan is also outselling the model S in that continent (Which is quite impressive considering it is more expensive).
Full self driving is not really a safe feature and it still got lots of work to do (yet the still charge you 8 grand for that), there's a lot of dashcam videos showing how it does really unsafe maneuvers, so its not a good enough feature to sell a car. (except if you are a sheep and watched some really bullshit video about someone sleeping with FSD on)
And the Fart apps, Built-in arcade games and Netflix are also not a good selling point.
You forgot to talk about the charging capability!
"Come on Watson". That gave me Sherlock Holmes vibes.

It seems crazy that you are fined for using a mobile phone when driving, but you can play with a large screen tablet to your hearts content.
Laws are bunch of words on paper, nobody says they need to be smart.
We’re the one line screens better?
What’s the difference between pressing a button on the dash or pressing an Icon on a screen?

Other areas where the Polestar fails in comparison to the Tesla and in general include:
- User interface, the Polestar Android implementation makes Android look bad and does not make up for the conventional driver controls and dashboard.

@@brapbrapskattappgangang5945 For now, no one else has done it except Volvo and Polestar.
“Who is that moron?!” Cameraman driving the car:😢
Hahaha
Hahahaha

I was looking for a car to keep, and really didn't want to have a "Damn, I should've paid 5-10k more" experience later.
About a year later, I'm still happy with my choice
I admit, the Polestar looks very beautiful. High quality. But I also admit that in the end I like both Tesla and Polestar :)
I think the rear look like an Audi design from 90s.
@@fatpigeon1066 except that it is less comfortable, far worse drive and for certain way less safer (not me, NHTSA says that) because of way inferior tech. No real OTA, shitty charging network, less range, less performance, say yeah...
Watched this on an Android phone and every time Matt said "Hey Google" in the video, it kept pausing the video and automatically activating the Google Assistant on my phone 🤣😂😭😭
@Luke Augustus Galaxy S10+ here. I was waiting for him to stop doing it so I could finish the video in peace haha 😂
@Luke Augustus yeah me too I think it's because it got voice recognition on
My Google home is currently playing take me back to London by Stormzy thanks to Matt
I feel like the only reason Matt wanted to make this video was to roast apple fanboys
After a test drive I loved the ohlins dampers because I used to do a lot of track days and the dampers on street felt like coilovers on track. It’s gonna be awkward explaining it to any passengers tho
Demonstrating "hey Google" in a video sets off so many home devices lol
Mine too haha
You saying 'Hey Google, set temperature to low' actually started my homes AC lol 🤣
I watch a lot of tech reviewers MKBHD, Mrwhosetheboss, Unbox Therapy, Flossy Carter etc etc etc, and they make sure to blank out when they say 'OK Google' or 'Hey Google'.
Oh boy, that was funny...
Looking forward to mine arriving. Matt, it was because of your video and 0-60 run I opted for this over the Tesla Model 3
Did it arrive and how's it going???
@@arminius6506 yes had it a year now and it is fantastic
Gun to my head I would 100% not choose the Polestar 2 over the Model 3 right now
Decision is easy since the Polestar 2 isn't available in the US yet.
Bought it! Polestar 2 is amazing. Look at the quality Tesla, just take a close look. No imperfections. I would rather charge a little more, while I admire the perfect built quality, than to be on hold with Tesla service
"This is the best infotainment system in any car..."
Elon: Dude wtf
The Tesla never had the best system. What are you talking about??
@Curley Pubes Crack?
Elon said that while smoking a pot
Callum : Oh yes, the Model 3 system is way better than this “andoid” system. Also i prefer the landscape over this portrait design. Talking tot Google all day. No way, i keep mij M3 system.
Curley Pubes Tesla’s system is amazing, way better than bmw and polestar
As always: thanks for another great review! Not as always: first BEV that I fell in love with...what a stunning car!
I really like the orange seatbelts, they look really good
They're in GOLD thank you!
@@Flornmonk no they are orange
@@OnTheRailwayOfficial no they are golden
@@Flornmonk you are colourblind if you think they are golden mate.

Loved that TOP GEAR reference 😁
I've been waiting for this. It's a great car. Nice review!
Dude stop saying "Hey Google" out loud. My Google home is going crazy
Headphones!
Mine started playing music. How stupid these assistant are, in reality. :)
loooooool
same here 😅
@@Xgenerati haha same
I really enjoy your videos, however if I could ask for one improvement it would be when you use the command "hey Google" you perhaps mute it down the audio a bit as all of my Google home speakers activate and then start talking off if the back of what Matt says. Other than that, really enjoy the content!
My personal priority views on the Polestar 2 vs Tesla 3 is:
* Nulled: The range - because of the minor difference in range - I will stop and charge before getting close to the difference in range anyway.
* Nulled: The acceleration - because I will not need or use that anyway - or notice the difference.
* Nulled: The top speed - because I would not top any of those speeds.
* Nulled: Automatic driver - because it is not legal to use in my country in Europe (yet)
* Super advantage Tesla: Their charger network! Not only being most widespread and (most often) working - but price-wise also much better in the area I live (in Europe)
* Personal advantage Tesla (model 3 and Y): Love that you can extract what the cameras have recorded with the push of a button or after an accident (read: great in proving your innocence).
* Advantage Tesla: Larger frunk!
* Advantage Tesla: "Larger" windscreen/thinner
* Super (personal) advantage Polestar: The user interface - not only driven by the Android community - but must have had some serious UX-experts @Polestar
* Super (personal) advantage Polestar: I truly prefer the more classic driver cockpit with a screen above the steering-wheel and extras on the middle.
* Personal advantage Polestar: Soo much better looking!
* Advantage Polestar: More SUV-feeling and... does it have higher ground clearance?
Me? I would buy the Polestar 2... Berlin edition... with tow-package.
Not to mention that polestar is gonna have WAY better build quality since volvo has been building cars for decades.
I used to work for Tesla and I completely agree with you, especially about the cockpit. After months of driving the model 3 I still hated not having a screen in front of me. Tesla should have an option of a heads-up display in my opinion.
great test but as an EV driver I would also like to see the numbers like consumption in kw/100km or 60miles or a short fast charging test to show kwh speeds etc...
Matt: This One pedal makes everything easy
*Car abruptly Stopped*
Also Matt: That it, Have to break
Damn right thats why i bought one of these Polestar 2 not a boring Tesla model 3 thing which got no heart in and out of it.
Don't you just love hearing "let's start this video" 90 seconds into the video?
Well my phones just tried to put the driver seat heating on xD
"who is that moron in front?" as if he didn't knew 😂
