Ahhh, Polestar 2, we've been expecting you... here's the Fully Charged verdict! The exquisitely beautiful Polestar 2 leaves Robert literally lost for words but how does it compare to the Tesla Model 3? On every point of reference, the Polestar 2 is seriously impressive and it's really only the lack of charging infrastructure, that Tesla offer, holding this back from being the equal of the Tesla Model 3. The exciting thing about this car is, that as it's 100% manufactured in China, they should be able to scale up to mass manufacture them. *For easy reference, use the Timestamps listed below...* Fully Charged is 100% independent thanks to RUclips Memberships (join above) and Patreons (join via www.patreon.com/FullyChargedShow). I think the challenge for Polestar owners will be charging for long journeys. There are still not enough 150kW Polar chargers in the UK and IONITY is extremely expensive as PlugSurfing won't benefit from the discounted rates that say Ford, Mercedes or Porsche will.
It does look like a good car and I'm glad that it is coming to make EV market more available to consumers. Styling is pretty good, though looks a bit large for how much cargo it has compared to even model 3. Range is good and I'm not sure what made you compare the performance model 3 range to this, Tesla has superior range. It looks like it is close in efficiency to a Model 3, but with 78kWh pack it's clearly less efficient. Price in US seems to be more expensive than a LR AWD with FSD Model 3. 0-60 of a Model 3 is now 4.4 on the website, but in reality it can do 4.2 and 3.9 with boost upgrade. Range is 322, though I'd count more real world closer to 300. And in the end, it doesn't matter if a car manufacturer makes similar or better vehicle in the future, the charging infrastructure, at least in US, cannot be beat when going with a Tesla.
I suspect the sensors in the back, that allow the opening/closing of the hatchback, were reacting to the proximity of you and/or the charger and wouldn't close. Safety thing.
Yep, it's genuinely first class. Quality stuff and the FC team an quite rightly be very proud of what they're achieved. I'm hoping they produce something 'feature length' soon to really cement their position, as I'm sure it would be a hit.
Could use more physical vibration damping for rolling shots and maybe some panning in the drone shots (but being able to do that is entirely dependent on how fine the control their gimbal provides is). And those quibbles are really all I came up with without going through it a seconds time. Really quite well made.
Not just in production quality, but in charm, and a fundamental feeling that they love what they are doing. I think that's what really made Top gear work.
As a well informed and committed Tesla fan (one that actually read the mission statement) I am very happy to see that other companies are coming up with cars that are attractive and competitive. Every new BEV is one less ICE vehicle on the roads. We need MORE of it.
Its going to be incredible witnessing the ENTIRE OVERHAUL of the current automotive industry and infrastructure that will change with it!!!! This will be something to remember over the coming years.
Quite scary that the first real equal to a Tesla M3 is Chinese. VW are nowhere near when you see this, and although it may take a while, people will work that out in the end. But battery day is coming and will presumably be something very significant, and when the Berlin factory opens, many predict price cuts for European M3's and Y's. So it's till advantage Tesla in the war, even if this particular skirmish s very even. If only the Polestar could use superchargers.
@TEC Man I mean, it's literally the Americans (Ford) who sold the company to the Chinese. That's the entire reason why the Chinese now own a reputable car brand (Volvo). So blame Ford for that.
You don't actually believe the electric movement has anything to do with the planet do you? Once batteries become in demand the mining will go nuts and we will end up with a new problem.
Yeah I mean Elon musk has said time and time before that they wish there were more competitors because it drives the industry further, one company working on an electic car will only get their vision forward.
Exactly so. The reason for that was was infrastructure - but as Robert so rightly says it is all sadly discombobulated - there needs to be homogenisation - or it all gets a bit floccinaucinihilipilification, but that's enough big words from me today
And Tesla respond to completion, as soon as the Porsche Taycan started to look like it might be faster than the Model S P100D look what happened, Plaid.
That's for the performance pack which gives you brembo 4 piston crossed drilled brakes, a ohlins suspension, the accerlation mention is wrong the book says 4.7 but in reality it does it 4.1, if you love German like cars go polestar if you want to to drag from light to light and make fast sounds go tesla
I love how it still keeps elements of that lovely design that modern Volvos have. It's familiar, yet distinct. I too think I prefer the look of the Polestar to the Tesla. The Tesla has smooth, flowing style like a Porshe, but the Polestar has a lovely chunkiness to it. Scandinavian aesthetic! Like pleasant IKEA furniture. Personally, I'd love to see some Emergency Response vehicles made from the Polestar like an Ambulance car!
@@peterwang8125 China isn't exactly the most popular country at the moment, with worldwide calls to boycott Chinese products if there are alternatives from other countries.
The trunk actually works really well, you have to stand further away from the car when you kick with your foot because there's a safety sensor that senses if you are too close.
I've got to say i'm impressed with the Polestar 2. Its really good to see a genuine rival to the Model 3. For me, the Model 3 has two clear advantages in terms of range and charging capabilities through the Supercharger network, but the Polestar does ooze a certain level of luxury and quality. We need more cars like this, as well as more affordable ones of course.
Robert I've been watching your channel for some time now as a person interested in technology and machines i always find your car reviews to have a nice simple human element to them you don't go to much i depth you just tell it how it is keep up the good work.
@@carlitoxb110 Undoubtably it's hard not to buy from China with day to day purchases. BUT where you have a choice, especially one with substantial amounts of money (eg: an EV), buying alternatives not made in China (or at least to lesser degrees) is becoming ever more important. Again China is a diabolical regime which we need to acknowledge, and become less dependent on.
Stop trying to claim this piece of tech as swedish, its a chinese made vehicle in china with chinese components. The Swedes are really arrogant now days, trying to claim other peoples hard work huh?
Dingelberry Finn you do realize that the entire development of this car is made in Sweden right? That the headquarter for Polestar is in Gothenburg Sweden? In EVs the software is just as important as the hardware - just look at Tesla with their lead in battery technology, software - developed you ask? Sweden.
Dingelberry Finn, I’m actually one of those engineers myself, so I’m very sure I’m right in this case. I spent a couple of years of my life on the Front End exterior of the Polestar 2, working in the Gothenburg headquarters with hundreds of other engineers. Not just the software, but also all of the hardware is developed in Sweden. Both the platform and interior/exterior, including the design/styling of both. Also all the planning and all attributes, like crash safety, energy efficiency, daily life usage, etc. Designed in CAD and tested in thousands of CAE simulations. The assembly plant is indeed in China and most components are sourced from Chinese suppliers, but, as I said, it’s 100% engineered in Sweden by me and my many colleagues.
Dingelberry Finn, there are indeed many excellent new EV’s developed in China nowadays, NIO and Xpeng for example, but Polestar is not one of those. It’s a Swedish sister brand of Volvo, both owned by Chinese mother company Geely, but nevertheless developed in Sweden.
Many thanks for this fantastic review of the polestar 2. How nice it is to watch real independent journalism with a bit of humor. I also drive a model 3 and I am very happy that a competitor has presented itself. Another 3.5 years and then hopefully we can have a choice between several models and manufacturers. "It has a range of 240 miles or 390km". British farmer: That'll get me halfway across the country. American farmer: That'll get me to the state line. Aussie farmer: That'll almost get me to the neighbours.
"I does 15 miles to the gallon." British Farmer:'Well that's rubbish, my electric car is charged from the solar panels on the roof of my barn." American Farmer: Gee, that must be some goddam Jap eco import. My truck does 3 miles to the gallon and I have to fill it twice to get to the state line but when I see a Prius, I start rollin' coal' to annoy the libtards inside. Aussie Farmer: I hate my neighbours. Get off my land.
@@fullychargedshow You've mentioned something here that would work so well in Australia; solar panels mounted on the roof of the roof of the obligatory Landcruiser 200 series to charge the retrofitted electric motor. You can't fool me though with suggesting Britain get's decent sunshine.
@@fullychargedshow Is this 390km average by your own testing, or is this from the official website? Most of them have quite unrealistic measurements to measure the range, as well as when it comes down to 0-100km/h. A channel called CarWow tests how fast it actually reaches from 0-100, they find that the numbers in their tests are far lower compared to the official website.
@@GeckoClever I've often wondered about the claimed ranges. 390km would be unsuitable for a taxi, and if running the AC reduces range and towing (and I've heard on some it does), manufacturers need to include these figures.
Well done as always Robert. I have to say I was genuinely surprised to hear you beginning to defend another electric car manufacturer but well done to you. It did appear slightly painful for you but I think in the UK we are ready for a Tesla beater, after all competition is healthy and brings everything on so much faster. People do forget how much of our lives are run by Chinese components. Shame after I received the email to test drive one ( having still not driven a pure electric car ) i tried to book and it was all full locally to me. Will just have to wait. Keep up the excellent work!
Oooh Robert. No gaps around mirrors = no spiders living in them... and no drips to leave streaks in the shiny paintwork after washing it. I do like those.
@Grizzy Bear WTF? I was talking about mirrors with glass going right to the edges. (11:40). Nearly every car I've owned in the last 20 years ended up with spiders living in the mirrors, cobwebs and insect corpses everywhere and then drip, drip drip on your clean paint after washing it. But to answer your question...No I don't care about the 300KG weight gain, the shorter range etc. What I do care about is having a local dealer to turn to if/when it goes wrong. There is no Tesla dealer in my area (nearest one is a 3 hour ferry ride away) nor are there any Tesla charging stations, otherwise I would have bought a Model 3 last year. I probably won't buy a Polestar either, but it's nice to see more choice on the market.
@@RichardOzanne It will be interesting to see if Volvo dealers can service these. If you're a 3 hour ferry ride from a Tesla dealer, you're probably pretty far from most dealers.
When my Leaf 40kwh has done its job in some years, there is a 100% guarantee this will be our car. Thanks Robert, as always. Content like this, and an evaluation by a normal non-car guy with a passion for EV's is the reason I am a patreon of yours!
I have ordered and getting mine in October. I am really excited about it. The built quality won me over. I used to have a model S and it is just not comparable. The model 3 is like an unfurnished flat. Polestar 2 is nearly perfect.
Congrats for ordering another EV. Have you seen, sat in or driven a Polestar 2? How can you tell by a picture that the build quality is better? Polestar do not make the Polestar, Geely assembles in China, drive trains are not Polestar, nor the batteries, nor the infotainment. Do Polestar write their own software?
@@raymondsmith9936 I live in Oslo i have seen and driven the car. It is miles better than a Tesla. Volvo writes the ECU coding and Google writes the infotainment software for Polestar... But whats your point? That i should trust a Tesla after wasting my money and time to more than 10 aftermarket warranty service due to bad production? Yes i have seen with my own eyes that the Polestar is far better in quality than the Tesla. No trim issues, no dingy noises, no cheap material, no rattling sounds, the doors doesn't sound like closing a truck door, the user interface is made for drivers that enjoy driving. As a bonus the car looks much cooler and is also more practical than a m3. If you dont enjoy driving and do not care how bad or Spartan the interior of your car is, by all means buy a Tesla. They have a better charging network but thats it, everything else is awful about Teslas... Especially their service network at least where i am from.
Absolutely, for an entirely Chinese-built car it would be ironically European if it weren't for the fact that Volvo is behind it. This is how the Chinese cars will get into the European market, not with their own brands - at least not initially - but under (former) European makes like Polestar, MG and others that outsource their production over there.
The CEO was the former head of design of Volvo. It has Volvo design DNA, but I see hints of Saab in the side profile. I love the Scandinavian design influences inside and out. Looks unique and distinctive. I’d rather have this over a Tesla.
@@volvodashcam Very true, although I would argue that Apple manufacturing in China wasn't all that groundbreaking, a lot of electronics are manufactured over there and shipped around the world. Chinese manufactured cars are very much a new thing to the international market.
Great review, and a beautiful car. Minor correction at 4:20 regarding the Polestar acquisition. Geely bought Volvo in 2010, but Volvo didn't buy Polestar until 2015. Before that it was a racing team (STTC).
@@VoxelLoop Not to mentioned the way those same cameras are used for Sentry Mode, which is why I'm drawn towards the 3 rather than this. I just don't know if I can get over the 3 not being a hatchback.
@@VoxelLoop While lacking in self driving capabilities (which is not legal in Europe yet anyway) the Polestar 2 is likely better than the Tesla in accident avoidance tech while in manual drive mode since that's the case for latest model Volvo's. -Rear and front Cross Traffic Alert with auto break. -Blind spot information with steer assist if you try to change into an occupied lane -Run of protection -Collition avoidence by braking individual wheels in combination with steering. -Rear collition warning and mitigation. etc And as stated by most reviewers this is more of a drivers car so most people who buy it will likely wan't to be in control anyway. Also, full A-B self driving is still far of no mather what Tesla say. Especially legality wise. You also have to pay £6,800 for a full sensor array for future self driving on the model 3.
@@rlopez2626 It's not shut down, regulations will be changed to meet it once the US gets it. :) Europe is just really slow at changing regulations but in the end they do get changed. There's virtually no chance the rest of the world would have it and Europe wouldn't be forced to change their rules to match.
Love the b-roll footage and the music and production values are amazing. You earned a new subscriber. I also pre-ordered a Polestar 2 in white with performance package and I can't wait until its delivered this November.
The thing is though, Ohlins suspension is some of the best on the market; it'll cope with anything you throw at it and keep you comfortable. imho it's worth it.
@@shogun2215 From what I've seen, while the Ohlins suspension in the Polestar 2 performance package is "adjustable," doing so requires actual tools and jacks or lifts. This is not one of those adaptive systems, and everyone who has tested this car has found the base Ohlins setup too stiff for the road.
You gotta give props to Bobby when it comes to be down-to-Earth and plain honest in his reviews. There's not a lot of other car reviewers (if any?) that would openly praised the competition while driving a car. He does it without any problem because he's not a journalist whose job is to get paid reviewing car and having to nurture relationships with the car OEMs. He has the highest of praises for the Polestar 2 but pointed out how the Model 3 is still miles ahead thanks to the Telsa SUC network and all the FSD capabilities. What a man, what a great, fair and hilarious review, in and of itself. And as usual, kudos to the FC team behind the camera and drone work and the video and music editing, you guys are the best in the car review business, by a huge mile.
The whole car is designed en engineered in Sweden. Polestar CEO is Swedish, design team are based in Sweden, HQ in Sweden. Sure, built in China, owners in China. But the quality and feeling are "Swedish". :)
Thanks Robert for this intro... And thanks for responding to the ridiculous anti Chinese everything that is rampant these days (written on my Chinese made phone).
Haters always hate, just ignore them, most of them are bots/trolls or pathetic losers in real life anyways. 90% of the daily staffs people use in Europe are MADE in China, just look at all the products for sale on Amazon, even the latest Tesla Model 3 sold in Europe are MADE in China now.
It is a beauty and in a way this is just one more car in a long line of "well I won't be able to afford that anyway" models. I hope it does well though, we need more and more diversity in the global fleet if we're gonna get rid of all those gas guzzlers.
@@marc0523 yeah trouble is decent finance can get a bit hard to get when you buy second hand, not only that but EVs don't lose their value quite as much as ICEs do. Heck some people have even managed to make a profit reselling LEAFs bought second hand those past few years.
The segment called "One tiny problem" really needs a redo, because its so weirdly said. You make it like it is the polestar, that has a simply broad charging network.
@M HADI I am not so sure what is worse, buying a Chinese product, or a product from a fascist country on the rise like the USA. They are starting to look like much the same in regards to treating people, suppressing the opposition, keeping children in cages, bankrupting sick people, racism and so on. All for that profit.
@M HADI As the last weeks has shown us, they can detain a person from the street with no explanation, and as I said, this is the beginning. 2 wrongs does not make one right.
Your money goes to a regime that holds millions of people in concentration camps, linked to organ harvesting. It suppresses freedom and free speech, and is ben on global domination. So there is that.
How well does it do OTA? And I dont talk about infotainment system, I am talking about bms, and all other onboard system? How well does the fsd system compete with tesla?
Yesterday hubby and I went to Polestar Space in Stockholm. So cool to see the cars irl. Loving the Saab likeness in some angles. Had no troubles with opening or closing the trunk with my foot. You shouldn't swing your foot sideways but just straight in under the car and then out again. Enjoyed this video, even though I'm not that into car videos. Have a lovely summer!!
More range, more speed, better acceleration and a network of superchargers all over Europe and US; all for 90£ more than a Polestar. In 2020 Tesla is the way to go still. No brainer.
The range and super chargers is the big one. The acceleration and speed are close enough that you won’t notice. Both AWD, both proper fast. Polestar 2 looks way nicer and that hatch boot is a big advantage too. I’d have the polestar, but the Tesla is the smarter choice. I also suspect that polestar will struggle to produce them in quantity.
I would take the Polestar if I had that money to burn. Why? It looks better, has that "Saab" vibe over it for me. And only for the summer holiday I need fast chargers. For all teh rest like weekend trips I wouldn't need one.
At least in the U.S. market, the Polestar 2 base model (i.e. no special color options or interior upgrades) is $14,210 more expensive than a Model 3 LR ($6,710 after reducing the Polestar 2 price by the $7,500 tax credit). So, yeah, in the U.S. market the pricing isn't quite that direct. I actually don't think the Model 3 is the correct comparison vehicle anyway. The Polestar 2 should be compared to the Model Y, which does have a hatchback.
First of all, fantastic video, not only does it tell me everything I want to know, visually its perfect, and very well presented. I find your reviews make me feel more confident in buying electric. Now for the car.... without doubt the best looking electric car ive seen, its stunning inside and out. As for charging I would charge at home 95% of the time so wouldn't worry me too much. Just need these available on a 4 year deal around £400 a month and you would see a massive swing towards Electric. I would ditch my petrol car for an electric one, but I don't want to pay more than £350-450 a month.
Its a weird feeling as a Tesla owner to see new EV's come out, makes me happy to see others join in. When I first drove the model 3 it was the same feeling I had when I upgraded to an iPhone from a Nokia...Rad car, doubt I'd leave Tesla though...Not sure I could give up the supercharger network and autopilot.

I really appreciate your transparent and realistic videos. Keep up the terrific work! I'm definitely going to test-drive the Polestar 2 and I'm rather sure I'm going to like it very much. Not going to get anything with a google operating system though and to me what the Polestar needs to prove is durability, longevity of their batteries and long term efficiency, also whether or not the software proves itself over the next months. Those (aside of the supercharger network) are points making me stick to my Model 3 without any doubt. But who knows, in 3-4 years from now the world will be totally different and there'll be amazing new EVs on the market.
@@marc0523 Tesla's look like someone trying to make a generic cheap saloon with the entire goal of making it look as unremarkable as possible. And if the next generation is as stupid as the cyber truck, then I think we'd all wish they hadn't bothered.
@@OldschoolWarfare But they already have the same drag coefficient as a racecar. Is there much more they can do without sacrificing range? Polestar 2 is really an xc40 with another shell. It could have been a far better EV if they made it from the ground up. It would have been much lighter too. All their cars will be built around a shared platform. I don't like that. Then the MEB platform from VW is much better
The big one for me is ability to tow. That's a game changer for a family with a mid size car. Robert, I think you said you could think of 3 EVs that could tow. I think the Hyundai Kona can too, maybe others. Perhaps worthy of an episode at some point - the family practicality angle? Great show, keep up the good work!
The main thing I love about this car, from the front it reminds me of a newer Dodge Charger, it's looks strong and powerful, with some possibly oversized looking wheels. It looks so much better than anything Tesla have done so far. You know if you that in your rear view mirror on the motorway it won't be there for long. Re the mirrors, when you are adjusting them the actual housing itself moves, rather than just the mirror inside the housing like how it happens with 'normal' wing mirrors.
@@espencapable Your concern is a classic question of aesthetics v/s efficiency. An extremely efficient car will not be very good looking and we all know it. Its upto the OEMs to push that boundary via efficiency sacrifices to tap the like-ability of consumers.
@@alpha7989 actually, I find logical and functional things more attractive. I absolutely love the look of a model S and I think this thing is on par with the model 3. I hate the look of SUVs, take a BMW x5 from the rear for example. It's hideus. It's like they took a car, cut it in half and put some random bit of extra plastic in between. The only positive thing with an SUV is if you really really want to wear a top hat when you're driving and I haven't had that urge yet.
@@alpha7989 With EVs, aerodynamic and range is everything. It is not fun to be stranded just short of a charger, because the car has to look cool. Would much more like to keep the ugly aerocaps oon the wheels and have a streamlined design to maximize range
Just out for my daily cabin-fever-busting walk and came across a Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3 parked up together. Turns out this was the beginning of the inevitable head-to-head test, being conducted by a popular motoring TV program that shall remain nameless (hint: starts with Top and finishes with Gear). This segment many actually entice me to watch the show for the first time in my life...
I've liked everything I've seen you in, please keep doing what you do! I drive a TM3 DM LR too and I feel like you under represented it. On their webiste you can see that 4,6 is the 0-100kmh time, 0-60mph is 4,4 (and I bet you know as well as I that it's faster IRL) and the range is stated by Tesla to be 322 miles, 325 miles range EPA or 348 on WLTP. Polestar 2 claim "Up to 275 miles" range and 0-62 in "less than 5 seconds". Hate to appear petty, but it feels like a much bigger diffrence to me than you represented it.
Other Car Reviewers have done 4.1 and 4.2 seconds 0-60 in the Polestar. TBH it makes little difference in real life. Both Cars do 0-60 between 4 and 5 seconds. That's fast but not super car fast. Same with top speed ... doesn't mater once you are over 70mph's you are not driving in the UK or on a test track, so makes little difference. The TM3 has a better range, a bigger screen, sentry mode, summon mode, and the option to buy autopilot. In addition the entertainment screen is a geek boys wet dream with everything in there. You also get the Tesla Supercharging network. The PS2 has a Hatch back boot so easier to fit large objects in, is much better built, much butter quality of materials, and the touch screen is mega easy to use on the move. The PS2 can also tow more and it's nose load on the bar is greater too. I know all this because I heavily researched both cars recently. For me I don't need the extra range, I don't need the charging network, I'm OCD and panel gaps plus poor build quality would drive me nuts. So yeah I ordered a PS2. ps. Still keeping my Cybertruck order .... so I'm not against Tesla ... just want to buy what's suits me more.
Recently bought a 3 year old used Polestar 2 for half the original price and I absolutely love it. Still feels modern. No issues with icy door handles or trunk that shouldn't be opened during rainfall. And thank you Tesla for now also letting Polestar cars being charged at your charging stations.
It truly is a beautiful car IMHO. I really like the styling. Love the brake calibers and yellow seat belts. There is a lot of things to like about this car. Unfortunately we will probably never see here in the USA with the current political climate.
@@NONcomD it depends. When I drive around town with mixed freeway and street driving I can drive it roughly 260 miles before I feel that I need to charge it as soon as I get home. And I still have enough charge that I can run an errand or two. Drivin strictly on the freeway gets hard to predict because rage can vary wildly depending on terrain, temperature, speed and how much weigh your carrying. That's why I follow what the Tesla app suggests. For example in one trip with two adults and a baby we can travel 230 miles before the app suggests to charge on a moderately hilly drive at speeds between 60 and 75 mph with 55 to 60 deg temp. On a another trip with 3 adults a baby and driving up a mountain pass at 75 mpg with 80deg temps it suggested that I charge at 65 miles! I could have skipped that stop and driven 20 to the next one but I would have had to backtrack a few miles to get back on course. On the way home I didn't have to charge at all and didn't charge for a few days after. Which makes sense because the way home was mostly down hill. This is why charging speeds and infrastructure matter so much for driving long distance. My M3 is the LR AWD rated at 316 miles. If I only drove around town I would totally trade in my Model 3 since range wouldn't be an issue. That's because I live in a house and charge at home. I f I lived in an apartment I'd stick with a model 3 to minimize my charging station visits.
2:09 "Out of all those cars I have driven, .... , I found it quite hard to say, this is very close to the best one. It is truly impressive." In other words, it is better than Model 3. Let me say it for him. He is a good man!
bodoti qwiu thus far I’ve seen only one reviewer who adjusted it, as he had the time and a workshop! Other reviewers just got the performance version of the car with no time or workshop to adjust it. They have quite rightfully pointed out that you’ll likely never adjust it any way (or maybe once) as it’s not practical to do. A number of said reviewers also doubt that the performance pack is worth it, but that’s up for buyers to decide 😉
From an esthetic standpoint I think it's closer to a Y than a 3.....the difference being that you can actually buy a 3 today. I agree that the self-driving tech is another significant distinguishing factor for Tesla in addition to the charging network. For some people it isn't very important, but for others it's an area where Tesla have been miles ahead of the competition.
Yeah, it does not compare at all on the self driving or other tech features front, which is why he failed to mention those things. This guy has been anti-Tesla for years, if you want fair car reviews from people who understand cars, this is not the channel.
Thank you so much for your enthusiastic and impartial review! :) I adore this car/wonder. It is just very hard to give away such a chunk of money. I probably better wait for the low spec version...
Yes, efficiency is key, particularly in countries/areas where the charging infrastructure is weak (not enough chargers or low-powered chargers, especially when the batteries are quite large). Tesla I think have set the bar quite high in both respects.
He makes an error with model 3 range it is actually 325 EPA that’s a lot less range he is stating there. Plus he doesn’t even mention autopilot. Which in my opinion is a big differentiator. Also he doesn’t mention over the air updates. It’s like he is purposely not comparing these cars correctly.
It have Volvos autopilot system, that is far superior to Teslas system. BUT Volvo don't consider it safe enough to apply it to the world, just yet. So Tesla can still go around bragging about their system. Meanwhile Volvo is rolling out full self driving trucks for controlled testing in real life...
@@cofal79 How do you know it is far superior if it's not even out yet? Tesla autopilot is 8 times safer than the average driver so you would think volvo would release their superior system to save lives.

I believe the Polestar would for sure have OTA updates. The Polestar is heavier, has less range, doesn't have autopilot, slower and doesn't have the Tesla charging network however many (myself included) would agree that this car is just a nicer car in terms of interior design, materials etc. I LOVE the minimalist Tesla interior but it's just not quite as nice as this Polestars. The video seems more like a first look to me, we will get more detailed comparison of specs soon.
Well done on keeping the show going over this period! It's easy to forget this is a RUclips video and not something on the BBC or ITV with production quality so high. I'm also glad to see a competitor to the Tesla 3, competition in the market will help get these vehicles more competitive and encourage more innovation. Hopefully in a few years time there will be a decent second hand market as I never buy new.
A very good review and a lesson in how you can politely say that something is better than something else without needing to slag off the alternative..... other reviewers take note. One thing nobody is covering in these Polestar reviews is where you actually will buy them from and where you'll go / what happens if something goes wrong?
Polestar is using Volvo dealerships and workshops for the maintenance of Polestars. They'll do Delivery and Collection during your 3 years of warranty according to their website
I have recently learnt of a small Australian company called S E A, which manufactures fully electric rigid trucks (lorries for Robert 😛) and also refits well known truck brands. Would love to see a video of them next time you're in Australia.
Really enjoyed this episode Robert. Chinese cars are beginning to make their mark in the west, if it brings quality and reduces the entry point for EVs, I’m all for it.
It'll drive competition for north American manufacturers to step up their game. I'd prefer to buy American but this'll of for now until usa has better.

*For easy reference, use the Timestamps listed below...*

So the obvious question is, which is the best car that you've ever driven?
What about a spare tire? Can a spare tire fit in that extra space in the boot?
Let's just take a moment to appreciate the production of this video!
Yep, it's genuinely first class. Quality stuff and the FC team an quite rightly be very proud of what they're achieved. I'm hoping they produce something 'feature length' soon to really cement their position, as I'm sure it would be a hit.
I was wondering what camera they're using...
A M agreed, it’s how a motoring programme should look and behave, very informative and transparent

First class production. You have to love Robert’s enthusiasm.

You are gradually reaching “Top Gear” production quality. Kudos guys, I’ve been following you for years and you are constantly improving!
@@dlwatib Top Gear _production quality._
Could use more physical vibration damping for rolling shots and maybe some panning in the drone shots (but being able to do that is entirely dependent on how fine the control their gimbal provides is).
And those quibbles are really all I came up with without going through it a seconds time. Really quite well made.
They have been at the same level for years. Watch the New Nissan leaf Review from a couple of years ago
I see Robert is reaching the Top Gear level of lane keeping as well.
Idiot.
Yet he bashes every competitor that comes to market

I've got to say i'm impressed with the Polestar 2. Its really good to see a genuine rival to the Model 3. Great review, but a small correction needed. Despite being built in China with mostly Chinese components, it’s 100% developed in Gothenburg, Sweden 🇸🇪
Hmmmm, I mean who cares.... as long as it’s a good car.
Many thanks for this fantastic review of the polestar 2.

@Grizzy Bear well, obviously someone does care.

Congrats for ordering another EV. Have you seen, sat in or driven a Polestar 2? How can you tell by a picture that the build quality is better? Yes i have seen with my own eyes that the Polestar is far better in quality than the Tesla. No trim issues, no dingy noises, no cheap material, no rattling sounds, the doors doesn't sound like closing a truck door, the user interface is made for drivers that enjoy driving. As a bonus the car looks much cooler and is also more practical than a m3. If you dont enjoy driving and do not care how bad or Spartan the interior of your car is, by all means buy a Tesla. I would take the Polestar if I had that money to burn. Why? It looks better, has that "Saab" vibe over it for me. And only for the summer holiday I need fast chargers. For all teh rest like weekend trips I wouldn't need one.
Polestar better build quality! Less wind noise. More premium feeling in Polestar. No brainer.
Tesla is the iPhone of cars. TM3 must not be compared to Polestar2, it is an insult.
@@teslapped2709 "the iPhone of cars". Does that mean over hyped, over priced and only for the fanboys?

I don't usually comment but just wanted to tell you guys: Love your videos. I drive a Model 3 and I love it but I'm happy with every new and well made EV on the market.

Totally agree about esthetic. I don't like Teslas look like and I adore this Popstar BEV 😍
The Tesla look is okay, but it's over 10 years old now, all their cars look the same.
They need to update their designs for the next generation.
@@marc0523 Tesla's look like someone trying to make a generic cheap saloon with the entire goal of making it look as unremarkable as possible. And if the next generation is as stupid as the cyber truck, then I think we'd all wish they hadn't bothered.
@@marc0523 Like cybertruck?
Aerodynamic designs don't evolve much. Tesla will.not sacrifice range and efficiency just for better looks
Mature perspective never goes out of fashion .. great video👍👍
@Deep hug Robert is a person with neutral perspective, be like robert 😄😄
Swedish minimalistic and modern design
It’s really interesting. Volvo style and chinese making. It looks very well done and comfortable.
well Polestar used to be Volvo's performance badge
And here are the electric Volvo! @
Editing on point, great video!
I loved this car soo much! I generally like Volvo and Polestar very much! You could say that the new electric Volvo XC40 is my dream car!
Look at this review! @ What do you think of this swedish one? @
Props to your editor(s) very clean video from the get go and through out
The main thing I love about this car, from the front it reminds me of a newer Dodge Charger, it's looks strong and powerful, with some possibly oversized looking wheels.
But they are sacrificing efficiency by keeping those sharp and classic Volvo lines. I prefer Tesla in that aspect as they have functional lines.
Would much more like to keep the ugly aerocaps oon the wheels and have a streamlined design to maximize range
arcticmods I would say it’s personal preference. Not everybody will think like you and me. And that’s where OEMs take their chances.
I would love to see an estate/wagon version.
It’s cuz polestar gave him the pole 😉
I saw somebody do 4.1 sec in the Polestar 2. I think it was carwow
It's one of the most comfortable reviews I've ever watched. I don't know why I use the word comfortable but it really is the feeling.
Recently bought a 3 year old used Polestar 2 for half the original price and I absolutely love it.
Still feels modern. No issues with icy door handles or trunk that shouldn't be opened during rainfall.
And thank you Tesla for now also letting Polestar cars being charged at your charging stations.
Robert as always a great review, I find myself agreeing with everything you said. Thank you
It truly is a beautiful car IMHO. I really like the styling. Love the brake calibers and yellow seat belts. There is a lot of things to like about this car. Unfortunately we will probably never see here in the USA with the current political climate.
You might now though!!

Thanks for this review. So helpful. I was going to buy a Tesla but have always wanted a Volvo.... and now I have a lot to think about.
Thanks for the great episode. One thing though, you used M3 long range 0-60 but then used M3 performance for battery range comparisons.
Really liked the honesty on the review, its not a Tesla killer like other vidoes are pointing but a close competitor
If I didn't like driving long distance I would buy a polestar. I prefer the aesthetics of the polestar over my Model 3
How much miles does your model 3 give till a charge in real world?
@@NONcomD Polestar is less efficient and charges at less than half the maximum rate as a Model 3. Its a second best car in every regard.
@@johnleeinslc The look and quality of the car is more important than a few miles extra in range. When range is a serious problem I travel by plane :)

I test drove the 208e. Great car. Couldn't afford it ultimately but you won't be dissapointed as it looks really cool and handles really well.
Finally a nice electric car not designed by techbros for techbros
Interested how this compares with Tesla self-driving features, sentry mode, dog mode etc etc.
etc etc etc etc etc not forgetting updates, the Model Y still to come....
@@Hubris2 the Y is already out and able to be purchased.

I probably better wait for the low spec version...
Great review as always, it almost feels like im reading a good book.
Would love to see Teslabjørn's test on this car too for a complete picture.

@@cofal79 lol you don't know their system is better. Stop being a hypocrite calling out Tesla fanboys when you, yourself are either biased against Tesla or a Volvo fanboy. Until the system is actually released into the wild it CANNOT be said that it is better than other systems.
