7:03 Funny how they modeled the cupholder lid in the same shape as the light controls to save developement costs for the left/right handed drive versions :)
The newer V8's with the Jag engine are actually pretty reliable (can't speak for the BMW). Being a luxury car and diesel is not a good combination, which is what most Range Rovers tend to be.
My company’s CEO has had both of these cars and I’ve ridden in each. The old one feels like a normal SUV and the new one was so luxurious I didn’t know what to do with all the features. What I remember most is it had 2 reading lights in the back with different shades, one with a book symbol and one with a tablet symbol. Way too fancy for me.
Mat this is a brilliant video. Comparing the two shows brilliance of the Range Rover concept and how well it has aged and evolved over the years. Great car(s).
Mat, PLEASE never stop these reviews. They’re awesome. Even though they’re a mix of funny, serious, and out of context, you still show really everything important. Thanks.
I have a 2004 4.4, awesome car. Currently on 93k miles, no warning lights on the dash, everything still works. These cars (& anything LR really) get a lot of stick for reliability, but my experience has been a pleasant one. Parts aren't expensive, and its really easy to work on. So much car for the money, i previously had a VW Touareg and it pails in comparison to the RR. My old "legendary" Volvo 940 was far slower, far less reliable and worse on fuel. Just shows you can't believe everything you're told. many people with opinions on vehicles have never even owned one
Great video on the old vs new. I love my 2019 RR Sport HSE and its been perfect! I've had the X5 and SQ5 and my RR is far far on another level! Absolutely dead quiet inside when driving as well.
don't write Bullshit! RR sport is garbige. heavy, suspetion too firm, engine (unless svr) is stupidly not effectve, but SVR with 5 miles per gallon shame to drive, Bugatti has same mpg. But BMW e53 4.8 (even 4.4) will destroy it all the ways. not speaking of G series X5 on air suspension...
yayaya, svr is garbage until royalty all over the world like khk , politicians , vvvip , will always have svr tailing them around, i guess rich ppl like to put their protection in garbage right ?
People say so many bad things about Range Rovers. But it's common to see ones with more than 150,000 miles around. Or did they sell a bunch and most of them are in the scrapyard?
A lot improved throughout the L322's reign. I have a 2011 supercharged model and there's much less the new one has over it (the Bentley luxury aside). Even the 0-60 isn't that much better + the Jag V8 is actually pretty reliable.
It pains me to see how a utilitarian classic evolved into a posh premium cruiser with way too much concessions to the realm of utter bs. Too many people seem to forget that cars are first and foremost 4 wheels, a couple of nice seats and a safe and weather proof compartment to transport you, some other people and your stuff from A to B in an adequate fashion. Everything else is mainly embellishment.
Quite honestly I prefer the look of the L322 (the £2000 model.) For me, it looks the way a 4x4 should look, in shape and proportions. But I suspect the target market for the latest model is unlikely to go off road or tow a heavy trailer. The L322 has a number of features that can stop working with age, but the latest model has loads more surplus gizmos which will be equally redundant after a few years.
Great review! It would be interesting to have the 2004 Range Rover detail and clean up and how it looks compared to the new Range Rover. If the original own took care of the it would probably clean up pretty good.
My god, you'd think for 200k you'd get an interior where they don't just stick a tablet on the dash and call it a day. Why do so many manufacturers think that's okay? Honestly might be the feature I dislike most about most new cars.

Way too fancy for me.
that old range rover was much more advance at 2000s than others at that time
I've driven a 2006 range rover vogue and loved it , the only bad thing about them is that if they break it's really expensive to fix
Yes massive problem with the lights always draining the battery as they don’t cancel when you leave the car !!
That's just bad design.
I love the new carwow logo it's modern simple and the sound transition also explains what the channel is for
Mat this is a brilliant video.
If only Range Rovers reliability was good as it looks, my brothers very expensive Range Rover spends half its time having something fixed.
20 years from now it will be easier to list the stuff that still works rather than the ones that don’t 😂
All the best to everyone
The old one❤ has an amazing interior compared to other cars of 2004
The old one looks way better! To my eyes it looks totally modern.
They also do a 4.2 V8 supercharger 400BHP in the 04 plate
Drug dealer spec
The 2K one rocks 😅
to see that kind of 2023 range rover luxary suv as a traffic police patrol car in the Turkey was incredible :)
200k police car in a 3rd world country?!
@@mbb8111 well well that shows that the country is not 3rd country as you think
Great video on the old vs new. I love my 2019 RR Sport HSE and its been perfect! I've had the X5 and SQ5 and my RR is far far on another level! Absolutely dead quiet inside when driving as well.
don't write Bullshit! RR sport is garbige. heavy, suspetion too firm, engine (unless svr) is stupidly not effectve, but SVR with 5 miles per gallon shame to drive, Bugatti has same mpg.
But BMW e53 4.8 (even 4.4) will destroy it all the ways. not speaking of G series X5 on air suspension...
yayaya, svr is garbage until royalty all over the world like khk , politicians , vvvip , will always have svr tailing them around, i guess rich ppl like to put their protection in garbage right ?
landcruiser is far better
@@простотаккак-то lol mine has been great. You need help man....
@@Lemingtona-x5g I don't agree. Not on the luxury side.
People say so many bad things about Range Rovers. But it's common to see ones with more than 150,000 miles around. Or did they sell a bunch and most of them are in the scrapyard?
Can you do old Land Rover Defender vs New ??
I’d love to see the £2k one restored! It’s brilliant.
The new one is undoubtedly amazing, but I wouldn't want it without a warranty!
Love your videos man, so entertaining and informative.
Absolutely informative and amazing in fact.
The 4 door classic is the best Range Rover✌️
The Autobiography wins instantly as it looks sooooo much better!! Plus its a luxury offroader, not another overpriced squished box.
For 2000 pounds, and various things that could use a fix up, that 2004 Range Rover seems like a good bargain.
A lot improved throughout the L322's reign. I have a 2011 supercharged model and there's much less the new one has over it (the Bentley luxury aside). Even the 0-60 isn't that much better + the Jag V8 is actually pretty reliable.
That table that comes up, what if you didnt align it properly for its way down, what would happen then? detection or breaktion? lol
My immediate thought and was hoping he test it 😄
It pains me to see how a utilitarian classic evolved into a posh premium cruiser with way too much concessions to the realm of utter bs.
Interesting thing is that only G wagon and LC200/LX can hold good price to compare with other brands even after a couple decades…
Defenders seem to be able to do that as well, atleast outside of the UK
@@Headlight84defenders hold their value in the UK as well
Defenders are very expensive and sought after
Great review! It would be interesting to have the 2004 Range Rover detail and clean up and how it looks compared to the new Range Rover. If the original own took care of the it would probably clean up pretty good.
The £ 2000 Range Rover is way better than my car . 😊
It's amazing that a 2004 Rover still runs. My family's '04 Pilot still runs like new tho; it's quite incredible.
If you decide you don’t want that L322 anymore, please can I buy it? 😁
I am extremely glad you guys got rid of that trauma inducing intro.
My god, you'd think for 200k you'd get an interior where they don't just stick a tablet on the dash and call it a day. Why do so many manufacturers think that's okay? Honestly might be the feature I dislike most about most new cars.
I always prefer the 2004 Range Rover Sport. Its just so gorgeous to drive for a car that turned 20 years old this year.
Don't you notice a trend, Landrover, Range rover, Jaguar all British cars. All unreliable..
UK should learn from Toyota
Haha we had a 12 volt socket😂😂😂3
@@TrIpMo1981Toyota have just had a recall across much of the range.

Love these car review videos. Just to show all the in depth stuff we don’t get to see in the drag races. Keep them coming please
Love your videos mat. Top gear now has fallen of preety badly. This is the closest to the old top gear
No It’s not . Autotrader is
@@Ben-oy1tdi think they are both good
I look forward to your review in 20 years on the new one to see what still works
With maintenance/repairs you are closer to the original price
Yep. The original price for 2004 Range Rover Sport actually only $55.000.
@@purwantiallan5089 This not Sport. There was no Range Rover Sport until 2005
The engine and transmission itself is easily worth more on the old car
I love old Land/Range Rovers. Get a GAP IID tool as they are brilliant to diagnose/fix problems. Not scary at all once you know them.
You,can’t critique a 20 year old car for how it’s worn verses a new one that hasn’t had time to get worse
Shush
Honestly the days of that 2k range Rover it was actually commanding respect. Nowadays ranges look like cars made for soccer moms
Particularly in white

I’m in California and auto auction $2000 Range Rovers are popular with Hood Kings and entry level ballers.
Many with damage that isn’t fixed.
This also includes dudes rolling auction Mercedes-Benz W220’s and W221’s.
Engineers: How many breakable things do you want us to add to the new Range Rover?
Land Rover: YES!
For me
New is Always New
Might need 2 cheap ones. Use 1 whilst the other is in for repair
Use 1 for Sunset driving around Las Vegas?
Dare i say it; i prefer the look of the old one!
Those door handles not popping out at the beginning(Matt was obviously pushing the button)of the new one is just a prelude of the multitude of problems waiting for you around the corner😳😂😂………don’t buy either!
The handles are the same as has been used for years now with no real issues.
Press the unlock and the drivers door opens first, another press opens all of the doors which is why it did not open when pressed first. It’s configurable inside Pivi. So it’s not a problem waiting, don’t add to the misconception. These cars are fantastic.
Love the price comparison. Bought mine in 2017 (LWB Supercharged) its got 75K miles on it now. Still original transmission, Shocks, Struts, etc. (a shocker for the ChiTown Residents) I will not trade it or sell it. It all depends how you treat your vehicle.
Kudos to the the person that owned the old range rover. they sure know how to owna car.
