Cullinan v Range Rover v Maybach v Bentayga v Escalade: ULTIMATE luxury SUV!

- When it comes to luxurious SUVs, it doesn’t get much better than these five contenders.
Representing Britain we’ve got the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Range Range and the Bentley Bentayga. From Germany we’ve got the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, and from the USA we’ve got the Cadillac Escalade.
But what’s most important to you? If the exterior design is most important to you, then get ready for huge imposing grilles, smatterings of chrome across the place, and exclusive alloy designs.
If the interior is more your bag, any of these cars may be most suitable from you. From leather-lined ceilings to swathes of wood coupled with soft touch materials throughout the cabin, then any of these cars will work for you.
But of course, that just covers the front seats, and it’s highly likely that if you’re picking one of these cars, they may be chauffeur driven, and that’s when the back seats come into play! With thick carpets, quilted stitching on the seats and even fridges built into the central armrest, these five cars are the undisputed winners when it comes back seat luxury.
One area where these engines may not exceed are the engines and performance, mainly because they all weigh well in excess of two tonnes. But that’s not to say the engines aren’t large! The smallest we have here is a V8, rising all the way up to the Cullinan’s 6.75-litre V12. But then again, if you’re in the market for one of these cars, surely luxury is more important than speed, right?
So which of these luxury SUVs will come out on top. Will the Rolls-Royce snatch it? Or will the Escalade surprise everyone and take the top spot? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

You do know that the Cadillac Escalade has a V version with that 6.2 liter with a supercharger added. You should have added that version to the lineup.
And the interior looking like pure shit.. seat quality as if someone's grandma in 1900 made her 1st set of chair cushions

I had Bentayga, Escallade and Cullinan right now. Escallade is definitely the best car to haul the whole family around...the technology is great...Bentayga is fun to drive with its smaller body and w12 engine. You can get the Cadillac Escalade V and it has 682hp which I believe is faster than all the other top choices.
Can't say I am surprised, not to do any injustice to the other cars but the Rolls Royce is on a level of it's own. Rolls Royce in general has always been at a level of it's own. Also while I do understand Matt points out there's very little plastic in the Rolls, at that price point it better not have much, if any, plastics at all.
Rolls royce Cullinan despite being very expensive its still somehow won so many fans due to how luxury it is.
Not really. The Bentley has been a close competitor for a long time. Maybe on pure luxury, where the Bentley caters to more performance buyers. Although they're both bespoke vehicles. So the sky is the limit as far as accessories go.

I think the EV range tests are wrong as they convey precisely the wrong message. No one is driving their petrol car to empty so why do it with EV’s? I mean a hyper miler like the Lucid or Aptera when that’s the selling point but not regular consumer EV’s.

Especially if it's one like this 😃👍
37:00 - in the United States there are "Alpine-esque" roads in Colorado, especially around the ritzy Rocky Mountain ski resorts of Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge, Avon, Copper Mountain, Winter Park etc, where the big Cadillac Escalade is popular.
Wow, I thought we had some narrow roads in the states, but after watching these drive test, I've come to appreciate the advantages of a much more modern road system. No wonder Europeans tend to favor smaller cars.
U.S. roads may be tight is some instances, but its extremely rare to have to pull to the side and wait for the oncoming traffic to pass on a straightaway. Something we see on very lightly traveled access roads.
In any event, what was missed on this test is the Cadillac V near 700hp engine. Its also to my knowledge the only SUV from this test that offers (or soon to be available) EV version.
One more thing, contrary to Matt's statement, half these SUVs (Cadillac and Maybach excepted) are designed to go off-road and do a pretty good job of it even in street spec.
I was stationed in Germany and they recommended not to ship a full size truck... they were right, those roads are on a weight loss program, except for the Autobahn. The only country in Europe I've been to that had a decent sized roads, was the Netherlands.
Europeans prefer normal sized but better engineered cars than their American cousins. Also you can be assured that the quality of roads in Europe will be much better than in America.
@@philipmccarthy6175people really do have stuff against America you all think think Europe is so much better but you copy us on everything
Modern? An oversized, poorly built, infrastructure that was designed to be as inefficient as possible in the early years of last century...
Not only does the Cadillac have a virtual reality navigation system like the Maybach, but it actually uses the head-up display to directly project the arrows and directions on the items in the windscreen. Matt clearly has the same opinion of "Yank Tanks" as Jeremy Clarkson, but the tech in the Cadillac is actually quite impressive. And the V Spec version (with a Corvette engine) is insanely quick for its size.
Exactly, the V version has a supercharged 6.2l with 668hp, for some reason it's not mentioned here...
dont forget the 36 speaker AKG system
And might still be cheaper. Sorry, but some Brits distain for anything American clearly shines through, even on cloudy day.

I have to agree. But the Mercedes/Maybach,as much i like the interior, the extrrior is 🤮.It looks to cheep to much bling bling, like it was made for a new young hip hop performer.
The L322 non modified looks really classy and the interior is the right mix of tech and controls. Lovely cars. Need a hefty budget to run them, complex older car always will. But buy one for 30k and you'll still be quids in after the repair bills compared to the huge cost of a new one.
@@ObradPopovic-cs8if100% agree. The Mercedes exterior already looks dated.

Well covered. Kept my attention for a fairly lengthy presentation. Well done.
We don't call them Alpine routes, we call them "back roads" and we have plenty of them here in the U.S.
It should have been the Escalade V
Compromised user experience and safety. But for town driving you don't usually need to make all these setting changes. As a car, suspension, quality seems to be as good as it gets in the price range and will likely keep the value better than others. Pretty much a perfect city car, with okay compromises.
Matt great video but why did you not include the DBX?! That’s a nice luxury SUV
mannnn the looks of range rover 😫😫 i just can't get over it i have no words to explain this masterpiece beauty
The Rover is ugly in my humble opinion. 😂
The Rolls on the other hand is, well..
It's a Rolls, and that is the best here.
If I had the money, I'd have the RR... But, I think I'd still prefer a LWB Phantom.
Maybe in 20 years, I'll be able to afford it.
I'd rather not think about the maintenance.
Apples to apples Jeeves. This is an SUV comparison.
For the Cadillac there's an electric button at the back so it folds the seats
The Cullinan DOES look like a London cab, especially in black. And if it's a Luxury Utility Vehicle, then it's a LUV, which just seals the cab status.
the Escalade is the best bang for buck, hands down.
After owning two 2022 Escalades, they are just too big. Unless you have a big family of 4+ or truly need the cargo space on a day to day basis, the size is hindering. There is very little pickup when accelerating, and they don't hide their size. Its nice to be so high up and feel like a king on the road, especially with the tech and AKG sound system, but they feel like stretched limo's.
I prefer the handling and more refined look of the new Rover. A buddy has owned both and says he wants to get out of his Sport Platinum Escalade and back into a Rover... with a big factor being that here in the states you see the new Escalade everywhere and the Rover is still an eye-catching rarity.
@@apj7484Not where I live. LOL

Bently or Rolls is where the true Luxury SUV is at. But the Escalade is the Bargin of them all.
And Aston Martin SUV doesn't exist because that one doesn't count. LOL
I know you didn't mention it but someone else did and I'm saying it doesn't count. LOL
But with the worst build quality by a country mile.
@@philipmccarthy6175 The fact that this is true and it's up against the range rover really says something about its build quality doesn't it?
Unfortunately most people who genuinely appreciate cars will just see the Caddy as another glorified Chevy Tahoe. Yes its got a big motor, yes its got night vision and touch screens, but at the end of the day that's all GM has to sway its buyers. Now if they were to create an Escalade with its own platform that didn't share 99.9% of its chassis with its cheap Chevy brother then it might be a different story. Until then, it doesn't belong in this category.
Why compare these SUVs when the price differential is extreme with Cullinan being at the rich end and the Escalade being at the low end with the other two being close in price in the middle. Might as well compare X7 or A7 with the Cullinan and you'll get the same results.

In the UK you might never see an Escalade. Britain doesn't hate American cars. They look great but the steering wheel is on the left. Also, our roads are small. American cars are thirsty. These are the main reasons.

Matt complaining about the 6.2l “lack” of horsepower per displacement in the escalade forgot that the British in their infinite wisdom gave the RR a 6.75l V12 and twin turbos to only make 600bhp. Two turbos and extra 4 cylinders and higher displacement for an extra 180 hp. Wow…
